Oh my God. One of my horribly conservative Facebook peeps posted this article/video today. HOLD ME BACK.

http://truthfeed.com/video-band-of-idiots-green-day-attack-trump-by-equating-him-to-the-kkk/37049/

One of the comments on YT for this video: I was so obsessed with Green Day, I have an old Facebook album called "Green Day" with 75 photos in it. Today I deleted it and removed all their songs from my Spotify playlists and disliked/unfollowed them on every social media account. They'll miss getting my plays on Spotify at the very least because I listened to them A LOT. I was a huge, huge fan. WAS.

That fucking killed me :D

Hatred from the brain dead supporters of the new fascist president is something they should relish. I'm so glad they did this and I hope it galvanises them into doing more to help the anti-Trump effort.

Did see a fucking classic Facebook comment about someone who "had followed Green Day their entire career and were disappointed they were talking about politics". Seriously. Morons like this put that moron in office.

Ok so from what I gather, they played Bang Bang and then billie sang that No Trump in between the song and then random people on the internet started to write shit against Green Day?

What other songs did they play? Still Breathing?

How is someone disowning Green Day and deleting them from their life bc of political beliefs any different from liberals deleting Trump supporter FB friends after the election?

Because Green Day have been political since, I would say Warning. People abandoning relationships are likely just learning exactly how much their "friends" don't give a shit about human rights. Perhaps? Seems quite different to me.

They are playing Jimmy Kimmel tonight and James Cordon tomorrow so "still breathing" is still possible

It's not really that they're disowning/deleting them, it's how unbelievably dense they must be to somehow only now be noticing the band's political stance.

How can someone even "Disown" Green Day? lol, they make amazing songs, they write songs which people can relate to, how can you just "disown" that.

This is going to be a "fun" 4 years. Billie is not going to shut up about trump. Every single damn interview and performance. I'm usually not against people expressing there views from whatever platform or venue it is, but good god it has gotten annoying this time around. That's the thing about music. It's supposed to be an escape from everything that's going on not a consistent notification reminder on how bad of a president trump could possibly be. I wish artists could understand the difference between a political rally and a concert sometimes.

As Spotify pays next to nothing to the artists I'm sure Green Day won't give 2 shits about being deleted off someone's Spotify account

Hatred of the Trump ideology is a pre-requisite of being a decent human being. Pretending it's "political" as though it's just one of two relatively comparable but opposing stances like whether you prefer punk or country, is one of the main problems that put the scumbag into office. He is a scumbag who built his platform on hatred. Do not normalise this like it's just the Democrats against Republicans. That election was not about the minute differences between those two parties.

:ermm: Just in case you're unaware: there is more than just one band making music. And I promise you a lot of them will not involve political elements at all. You can have your cake and eat it, too.

None in general. That's not the reason why I reposted it. I just found quite funny that the person wrote something in the sense that it will "hurt the band" or something like there are no other things more important in life than loose interest in a band. Also the comment was ridiculously dramatic. That's all.

Yes, exactly, that's why I posted it :D

Exactly.  One of the foundations of punk music is kicking back against everything that's going on, it's literally supposed to be political and anti-establishment.

This whole outrage over the election isn't people being salty about their candidate not winning. It's about people electing a terrible person, who strikes all the -isms into office. No, we shouldn't shut up about it. That's what I think at least.
