Thanks to Arica Pelino for her footage and Shayne Stacy for digitizing this classic material. See the caption in the video for more info. This is just a teaser. Arica gave Shayne hours and hours of videotapes of East Bay bands including lots of never before seen Green Day material from her personal collection. With permission she is now sharing her stuff with fans for the first time! I’m starting this thread and will add to it as more stuff gets uploaded. In the meantime enjoy this small backstage clip from the Phoenix Theatre in 1991 and subscribe to Shayne’s channel.22 points

Hey party people (at least I hope that's what those young folks today say), So I've been a fan for a while and have been collecting some stuff over the years and besides doing scans of artwork I also like to scan magazines and books. Especially this year I focused on a lot of Japanese mags I wanted to share since not too many people outside of Japan have seen these or people from outside of Germany have seen the German mags I also have. Since I always wanted to have the American Idiot tour book they did (actually "just" tour rehearsal photos and dates) and since it's AI's anniversary, I wanted to share HQ scans of those as well. Since I'm a perfectionist I edited the pictures to be as close as possible to the original mag or how it "should" look digitized, these took a lot of time and I wanted to share as much as possible at once with you. There's still stuff to scan and/or edit. Here's a short list of what's coming next: Warning Tour Book, Crossbeat 2001/12, Guitar Breakers 2004/10, Crossbeat 1995/11, Crossbeat 2000/08, Visions 2009/05, (maybe) Billboard 2009/05, etc. Well, here's the link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Hk68uJ_YwpQBby3nlLWhRAWU6_8vdAkE?usp=sharing Enjoy!21 points

There won't be a Trump album. Billie has been vocal about not wanting to write about him if he can help it. Of course it has inspired a few songs despite him saying that, but I doubt it will be a major influence. There certainly won't be any songs about him turning out to be great. Billie has felt this way about him for much longer than most people have been aware he exists. Personally I'd rather have more lost love songs than an anti-Trump album. It won't change anyone's opinion. What is there to say about Trump that hasn't already been said by a million different people on both sides, anyway? He's what he is. We all know that whether we like him or not.17 points

I went to the Milwaukee show last night. It was fine, but the Wrigley show was better. There were at least 100, 150 maybe VIPs who got in before the GA crowd, so if you weren't VIP, it was almost impossible to make barricade. I always go for the catwalk, but since I never get decent pics of Kevin, decided to go for the main stage since I viewed this show as my "bonus" concert. Got second row behind a 18 ft tall guy, so not the best view. I was also several rows to the side of the catwalk, so not the best pics of Billie either. I was around mostly nice people, but a fight did break out behind me at one point and security also intervened with someone else who was causing problems. I did meet the blue haired girl who got onstage at Wrigley during KYE. She was behind me in line, so we became line buddies. A few pics that turned out okay- And once again, I prove myself queen of the Billie mid gum spit shot Catwalk only from this point on! I didn't even get any pics of Kevin that were all that great.17 points

Did the Chicago show last night. I got there at 1pm and there were only about 15 people there. Even by 3pm, it was only up to maybe 30-40. I was really surprised by that, but hey, good news for getting up front. The staff at Wrigley massively screwed up the wristbands. They were supposed to give yellow wristbands to people in the pit, but instead gave us pink, so when we got out to the field, the field staff wouldn’t let us in. Had to run back and get yellow ones; by this time, they figured out they were giving out the wrong wristbands, but it basically meant the people who showed up at 3pm got better spots than the ones who showed up at 7am. Luckily I still got a spot on the barricade at the end of the crosswalk on Mike’s side, which is what I wanted anyway (past couple shows I’ve been on Jason’s side, so I wanted to switch it up). Pre GD- Guitarist from the Linda Lindas tried to toss a pic into the audience and it landed on Alice Baxley. The Pumpkins drum was massively mic’d up; you could feel it in the floor. It was great to hear Bullet with Butterfly Wings; I’d put it right behind Smells Like Teen Spirit for the seminal songs of the 90s. There was a guy massively headbanging during the Pumpkins while wearing a Taylor Swift vest. Tre was watching the first few Pumpkins songs from the side. The show was great. Felt like I got run over by a truck by the end of the night; surprised I’m not more sore today. Got hit by at least 6 crowd surfers in the head, neck, and shoulder (after the first one, I was like, didn’t I have a ponytail in? They somehow managed to remove my ponytail holder). People around me were great and kept asking me if I was okay. It was like I was in the designated crowd surfer lane. During Minority, Billie highlighted Coley, and I think forgot to mention Mike. They almost forgot to bring out Blue to him afterwards. It was great seeing the Saviors songs; I was kind of surprised they kept Bobby Sox in after his voice issues, but he sounded great all night. After they finished Dookie, it was like, wow, and we still have a whole album to go! I’ll be seeing them next week in Milwaukee. You can tell you’re getting older when your first thought at the end of the show is “I get to do this again next week!” and then your body says “I have to do this again next week?!”. Few pics I took- Few more17 points

Kind of lame to play a country that oppresses LGBT+ and women to that extent and is built on slave labour tbh. If nothing else it seems like a terrible PR move17 points

I'm not really into this huge desire to talk about/get C&V but I will add what Rob Cavallo writes in the AI 20 booklet. "So, I got together with the band and they tole me they had written an entire album's worth of material. Wow! Awesome! But there was a problem. The guys were sounding, for whatever reason, just a little bit rusty. The music was good but was it really their best? I took it to my boss (the prescient Tom Whaley . He agreed with me. He said "let's meet with the band". A few days later in the Warner Bros executive conference room, Tom says to me and the guys " we appreciate what you guys have gone through and appreciate this new album. And while we are prepared to release it, we are not prepared to give it the big push (meaning marketing $) because we don't believe this is the best work you are capable of". BOOM! He was so brutally direct! I think I was sweating profusely. Billie looked directly at me and asked "is that what you think too?" "Yes I said, nodding my affirmation. Billie said "ok, let me think about this and process it, and we'll get back to you." Two days later, we were all back in the same conference room. Billie starts "So I';ve been thinking about what you guys said last time....and I think you're right. We want to make out best record and we want you guys to like it and to give it the big push. And we are willing to do what it takes to make that happen. The question is: Tom, are you willing to do it also?" Tom said "sure, what do you need?" The rest is about Rob going to work with them Monday to Friday in Berkeley.15 points

Well, that was something. What's been posted in here basically explains it. It was very confusing — the way we all saw them grab Mike, we thought something happened with him specifically. I could see from my seat that everyone was being carted away in golf carts and knew it was some sort of threat. I assumed it was something in the pit that escalated until I saw that the people in the pit were as still and stunned as the rest of us. Honestly, I selfishly didn't panic — I just thought "Yep, of course. I've been relying on this show to single-handedly keep me sane and now I only get four songs." It wasn't until later that I considered that we could've been in danger, too. But they came back and didn't miss a beat, didn't miss a song. I'm grateful they worked it out and grateful they got back out there for us. It's weird, I was of the age where AI meant more to me than Dookie, but I enjoyed the Dookie set more than I thought I would. And even though I obviously knew AI was being played in full, I think I had gotten so used to hearing St. Jimmy segue into some other common setlist song that when Give Me Novacaine came on, I was somehow surprised and that made it all the more beautiful. I hope maybe I can remember more specific feelings later — I'm still wired from the pause and making sense of being there for such a weird moment.15 points

I'm right there with you, I obviously don't hate Dookie and commercially it makes sense to market the tour with them playing it in full, but I will fully admit that I won't appreciate hearing it in full like a lot of people who will be at these shows. A good chunk of Dookie has always been, and will always be on the setlist, whereas Saviors stuff could disappear after this tour, so I wish we could enjoy all of it now!15 points

I’m never going to get over the lack of a proper film of the musical with Billie in it. I love Broadway Idiot but it doesn’t give us the full performance, which we know he completely nailed.14 points

Couple of dogs patrolling last night, not aware of having seen that before. What a night! Crowd were a bit dull where I was and it’s a bit of an odd venue. Billie laughed at one point and said “why are some of you pointing backwards”. I don’t think those seats had been sold but folk had moved in to them to be closer, some were very far from the stage. BUT Green Day were fantastic, as good as ever I saw them I think. Billie is looking very trim, sounds fantastic, was in great form and clearly enjoying himself. I’m liking Corey O’Toole, he’s there but not doing as much as Jason who is too present for me sometimes. Jason W had blue hair, at least it looked like it. You know the setlist, but they came almost 15 mins early, 7. 45 and played til about 10.20 give or take a minute. Their energy never faltered, it was over too soon and I can’t wait to do it again Tuesday!14 points

People, the show in Hamburg today was SICK! Just got back. Billie brought a fan on stage to play guitar during Good Riddance, and she played the whole song with the guitar on her back (over the head like Billie does sometimes), he sat down on stage to sing and she played, it was mindblowing. I would write more, but I’m dead. Definitely one of my fav GD shows of all time. I have now seen 3 shows of this tour so far and the boys are in excellent shape, Billie sounds absolutely amazing, better than during Hella Mega. You can all look forward to this even though it is a bit different than „classic“ GD show. I love my boys! So so happy.14 points

The following statement has appeared on fromt page of greenday.fm:- January 28, 2025 – 7:15PM GREENDAY.FM IS CLOSING First of all, thank you to everyone that has visited this site over the past 6.5 years and especially those who have contributed their time and energy to help build it. Huge thank-you to Todd who was instrumental in building the audio archive and also contributing a ton of research and knowledge to all areas of the website. Due to a lack of time to properly commit to maintaining and growing this website, GreenDay.fm will permanently shut down on March 9, 2025. Starting today, there will be no further news updates or updates to any of the pages on the site. Our sister site, GreenDayLive.fm, will continue on and some features from this site will be moved there. This site originally launched way back in 1996 and died out about 6 years later in 2002. So I guess it’s fitting that the resurrected version of that old website would suffer the same fate after 6 years as well. Thank you again for visiting, hope to see you all on our Discord and at GreenDayLive.fm. – Jason This is devastating news. I can't believe this is happening. I feel so sorry for Jason who has dedicated his life to the current and previous site launched in 1996. The information on this site, a lot where you can listen to unreleased songs, demos and covers, live performances and much much more. There's also loads of stats that will be lost. Hopefully some info can be saved as suggested on sister site greendaylive.fm. I don't know if this is possible but can some of the databases be passed to GDA? Thank you so much Jason for all your hard work and efforts. I've really loved your site, and I have learnt so much more about this band thanks to you. I will miss it very much. Every happiness to you for the future.13 points

Regardless of the quality of the other nominations, The Beatles winning a Grammy in 2025 is a naff gimmick, especially when AI had to be used to lift Lennon's voice from an ancient tape. No, that's not quite the same as someone using AI to write a song, but as far as I'm concerned no art is 'legit' if AI is involved in its creation.13 points

It took me years to get a live used guitar from one of the Reverb sales, but i finally got one. London vintage guitars received the BJ junior in a trade from the original buyer, and they posted it for sale. They accepted my offer and i got it. I asked about the guitar before purchasing, and i was told it all original including the dirty strings Billie played, which is what i wanted. The guitar has tons of body checking on the front and back, and there is dried up dirt/sweat on the front of the body and pickguard. Some interesting things about the guitar i found after months of searching: The guitar was used for a handful of shows and only for the song Forever Now The nut had a little piece added after a few shows, which helped photo match the guitar to a few photos Billie added the "BJ" stickers after a few shows, which he moved around a few times The guitar was used for the private KROQ "Green Day plays your garage" show The guitar was on set for the "Back in the USA" music video I have attached photos i took of the guitar, the Reverb COA signed by Billie, and some photos of Billie using the guitar on tour. Enjoy!13 points

The show was so much fun omg! My brother and I got one back from barrier behind @solongfromthestars and @Rumpelstiltskin2000 with great view between Billie and Jason! Just a "regular" setlist I think but it was great, danced the whole time and it was just awesome watching them play up close https://imgur.com/6emTrSj It was a bit dumb that they didn't have an encore because it meant the crowd chanted for one and got disappointed (especially as it took ages for the lights to come on) but we thought it was funny 😆. Billie did state clearly that it was the last song to be fair.13 points

Just got home and wow. Was on the barrier at the center of the catwalk, couldn’t have been any closer, and it made a huge stadium feel intimate. Amazing show and also an exhausting day but loved every minute of it. Here’s my post: https://www.instagram.com/p/C_Zr65ntBpQ/?igsh=MXdmM3A0aTJmbjd1ZA== I was right next to the kid that got pulled up for KYE. He and his family were on line with us earlier in the day. He freaked out when he got picked because Billie picked two people which I’ve never seen him do. He thought he lost his chance and then Billie said “I wanna do it again!” and he picked the kid. It was very cool. Also I got one of Tre’s drumsticks!13 points

I recently listened to Saviors from top to bottom and I still love it six months later. Some songs I've cooled on like Father to a Son, but overall the album is still fantastic and is their strongest work in a while. Glad that the album still resonates months after its release.13 points

I have Mega Evolved into Mega Fangirl over Billie taking my flag. That thing has been with me since the Paris show in 2010. It's been to all kinds of places but its most exciting adventure was definitely Costa Rica where it made it onto TV. Framing it has flag shagger vibes, but I think I'm going to have to retire it and frame it with photos some of Billie holding it.13 points

As usual, I wasn't supposed to be here. I was offered a free ticket and couldn't resist. I arrived later than I meant to, but the McFly fans in front of me kindly let me in after McFly finished, so I had an amazing spot in Mike's corner. The band were obviously on fire (when aren't they?). An incredibly passionate performance. Billie got emotional several times. They played the singles from Dookie and all of American Idiot except Extraordinary Girl. Very different to the Lyon show - it felt less scripted and Billie interacted with the crowd more. That said, I couldn't choose a favourite of the two. They were just different. Lyon miiiight have the edge because the atmosphere was amazing but I might change my mind tomorrow. Also, whilst Billie interacted more, Mike hardly interacted at all, in contrast to Lyon where he must have smiled and pointed at 50+ people. In Holiday, Billie took my England flag, played with it for a while then gave it back. What a lovely bloke. 💖 He kept saying England does it best and I can't disagree. He gave his old speech in Letterbomb - "this isn't a party, it's a celebration!" Homecoming was the highlight. Absolutely incredible. I didn't like Bobby Sox when I first heard it, but I've totally warmed to it after hearing it in Lyon then here. I love it now! And I will never ever complain about hearing One Eyed Bastard. What a banger. We were all chanting "one more song" for so long and so loudly I thought they might actually do it, but of course they didn't. It was lovely seeing everyone so enthusiastic though. I'm really not a show counter - I don't generally give a shit - but I realised from setlist.fm that this would be my 50th show and I admit I got a bit sentimental about that. It was definitely a worthy 50th show. I love Green Day.13 points

Such a good show, the boys sounded great. Can't believe they ripped through 37 songs in less than 2.5 hours. They honestly put many other bands to shame with what they put in. As a blind person, I can't speak for how it was visually but Billie Joe certainly sounded full of energy and as a whole they sounded fantastic, I'm always blown away by the clarity of Billie's vocals live, as someone who goes to many, many gigs and frequently find that you can't hear the singers that clearly in the moment. A couple of people I went with thought that Billie sounded a bit horse at times, to which I was like well yeah, singing 37 songs must be pretty hard I'll be at Wembley next week, looking forward to it. I'll be introducing two friends to their first Green Day show. Loved Billie's improv during the Chump pause13 points
-
Idk, they sound great to me and they’re playing their two most iconic albums at most tour stops in addition to other wonderful old and new songs. I seriously have been loving the setlist most shows so far. The shows are still really long and their energy still seems fantastic. IMO, watching Billie performing sober is a more pleasant experience on every level — you can see him enjoying being in the moment and there are no rants/outbursts that tended to happen on the 21CB tour. And “less interaction” — they’re definitely playing straight through songs more than they used to, but I personally love that. At one point years ago, it seriously felt like they’d stop in the middle of every single song and that’s just not necessary. From what I’ve seen, they’re still engaging with the crowd, but in a way that’s less disruptive of the performances, and as an audience member I definitely appreciate that.13 points

It's me, hi, I was the one updating Rumpel. What she really means is that I was screaming louder than the band or accidentally pressing the selfie button. Pulling Teeth and Extraordinary Girl should be OK-ish as far as my Peasant 5000 phone goes though. I don't think they played 37 songs unless I'm underestimating how many it was with Dookie and Idiot. It was a pretty standard length show. I impulsively decided to go to this the day before I flew out (thanks for the £30 flight easyJet). It was my first Green Day show in nearly five years and of course it blew me away. Worth every penny I should've spent fixing my car. They absolutely shouldn't drop One Eyed Bastard. I wasn't expecting it and screamed like a teenager. It was fantastic. I don't like Dilemma but I didn't give a shit when they played it because everything sounded amazing. When they started playing American Idiot, I thought of my 12 year-old self watching Bullet in a Bible, wondering if I'd ever see such a thing live. And I was just like... "12 year-old self, you're hearing it live in Lyon, France and it's everything you dreamed of and more." Despite all our posts about French crowds, this one defied every stereotype. People went nuts but weren't aggressive at all. It was incredible to look back and see this sea of smiling people jumping. No camembert assaults (that I'm aware of). It was exactly what "punk" should be. There were a LOT of VIPs. Seemed like more than RevRad. I was about sixth in the peasant queue and was between Mike and the screen. I was very happy with that spot though. I'll have more to say when I've slept (my grand total of hours slept over the past 48 hours is about three) but wow, as always.13 points

Still can't believe how good this album is. Latest song I'm obsessed with is Coma City. Besides adoring the tune from a musical point of view, I just love how it describes today's reality where everything seems to be going down the drain and no one gives a fuck or does anything to prevent it. We're all just boarding up our windows and drinking our lemonades, while we live in a collective coma waiting for the inexorable to happen. Love the instrumental outro. Feels like the apocalypse, everything is going to shit around us - shootings, war, chaos (Tré especially does a hell of a job conveying all that) - but no one does or says anything anymore; even the narrator has fallen into the coma and is left without words. Not to mention how all of that is picked up again by Saviors later on: "Everyone's asleep but nobody's dreaming / We got all the fiction that's worth believing". There's just no dream worth believing in anymore apart from the bullshit we get fed with every single day. Fucking genius. A punch in the gut every time I listen to it.12 points
