The following statement has appeared on fromt page of greenday.fm:- January 28, 2025 – 7:15PM GREENDAY.FM IS CLOSING First of all, thank you to everyone that has visited this site over the past 6.5 years and especially those who have contributed their time and energy to help build it. Huge thank-you to Todd who was instrumental in building the audio archive and also contributing a ton of research and knowledge to all areas of the website. Due to a lack of time to properly commit to maintaining and growing this website, GreenDay.fm will permanently shut down on March 9, 2025. Starting today, there will be no further news updates or updates to any of the pages on the site. Our sister site, GreenDayLive.fm, will continue on and some features from this site will be moved there. This site originally launched way back in 1996 and died out about 6 years later in 2002. So I guess it’s fitting that the resurrected version of that old website would suffer the same fate after 6 years as well. Thank you again for visiting, hope to see you all on our Discord and at GreenDayLive.fm. – Jason This is devastating news. I can't believe this is happening. I feel so sorry for Jason who has dedicated his life to the current and previous site launched in 1996. The information on this site, a lot where you can listen to unreleased songs, demos and covers, live performances and much much more. There's also loads of stats that will be lost. Hopefully some info can be saved as suggested on sister site greendaylive.fm. I don't know if this is possible but can some of the databases be passed to GDA? Thank you so much Jason for all your hard work and efforts. I've really loved your site, and I have learnt so much more about this band thanks to you. I will miss it very much. Every happiness to you for the future.9 points

Also Beej getting on his political soap box again ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Totally inappropriate but I would climb that man like a tree. 😅6 points

Morning coffee thought…Billie usually says “from *insert city* to the Middle East” in JOS. Playing Dubai, isn’t he in the Middle East then? The prophecy is fulfilled. That is all.5 points

Billie is a smol tree to climb but I think many of us have similarly inappropriate thoughts.5 points

On this day 7 years ago (29 January 2018), The Coverups played the Ivy Room in Albany, CA. 20 years ago (29 January 2005), Green Day played a second night at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England on the American Idiot Tour. 27 years ago (29 January 1998), Billie Joe played Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) on Top of the Pops in London, England. More photos: 32 years ago (29 January 1993), Green Day played The Alternative Record Store and later the Brass Mug in Tampa, FL. "Life can be full of coincidences. Circa 1993 I was playing in a punk trio called Dogs On Ice in Tampa, Florida. We had some minor local success and even signed to a small label out of San Francisco run by Jello Biafra's graphic artist [Winston Smith]. We were doing as good as any local band could hope to do, but thought that maybe we would get a big break after learning we were going to open for our punk idols - Green Day. The show was scheduled at a scrappy hole in the wall called The Brass Mug - sort of the CBGB's of Tampa. I remember the evening vividly. Green Day had not been signed by Reprise yet, but were doing great on Lookout Records. As we pulled into the club in our oxidized blue Ford Econoline, a rougher, more road worn van pulled into a space close to ours. It was them - yes, Green Day, all the way from the notorious punk rock mecca - 924 Gilman Street. The band we listened to constantly and read so much about in the pages of our bible, the 'zine Maximum Rocknroll. We greeted them, and they seemed bigger than life. Tre Cool asked if any 5-0's were rolling because he had to 'take care of some business,' and Mike Dirnt asked our bass player for a string, which he provided. The Mug was filled beyond legal capacity that night - at least 400 in a place that regularly drew 40. We took the stage with anticipation and rocked a pretty good set to the enthusiastic crowd. We felt good. Then Green Day took the stage. They transformed the seedy club into a whirling vortex of energy. It didn't matter that the sound was crap or the ceiling was low. They played with such tightness and fervor that I knew great things would come to them. My opinion of my band admittedly dropped drastically when I witnessed a new musical paradigm first hand. Weeks later their Dookie album was released on Reprise. Dookie sold millions of records and proved to be the record that lead them to stardom. My band went the way of most: we broke up." — Joe Popp4 points

Be like bloody everest! I imagine it to be like a random off the cuff nickname. Yknow like, someone's absently looking for something at the studio and there like "hey beej, have you seen my xyz?" whilst they're looking behind the couch cushions. Can you tell I have an overactive imagination? 😅3 points

He looks tired, hope he can get a decent rest before the show tomorrow night.3 points

I can't believe this is happening. It's really sad to lose so many content and a well organized site like gdfm1 point

This is terrible news the site is a great resource for rare audio, tour stats and history. I hope most of that can be saved. Much appreciation to Jason and Todd for all of their hard work over the years1 point

I would LOVE to discuss this with you. I have made a lot of great friends in the Green Day fandom, but I have also met some pretty unhinged people and have also experienced harassment (a few years ago). It actually caused me to separate myself from the fan community for a little while, and concerns similar to yours are part of the reason (along with a host of logistical reasons) why I skipped the Saviors tour. Things seem to be better (at least for me) in this fandom lately, but your concerns are absolutely valid. The culture of the Internet/social media has really fucked up a lot of people, and this fanbase is not immune, unfortunately. There are definitely some fans who seem to stand in direct opposition to all the good things that the band stands for. I have also become more immersed in the Fall Out Boy fan community over the past couple of years, and I must admit that I have found that fandom to be much more tolerant and welcoming. EDIT: Clarity (I initially wrote this while multitasking and realized parts of it didn't make sense)1 point

One minor thing I find a little bit irksome about this song... The verses go "do you wanna be my..." 1. Girlfriend 2. Boyfriend 3. Best Friend... right? So in the outro, I always feel like that should be reflected but they just repeat "boyfriend" twice. Do you wanna be my girlfriend? Do you wanna be my boyfriend? Do you wanna be my boyfriend? I always want the last one to be "best friend"1 point

I'm sorry you've had this experience. Everyone I've met and made friends with at queues and shows has been really nice and most just looking out for each other. Maybe in the last run for the barricade some people get a little territorial (and that has included myself a couple of time, I must admit), but I think that's normal after hours of waiting in line, sometimes in an unforgiving heat, cold, or relentless rain, and the adrenaline of that moment. The most important thing though is to stay safe. If they make you uncomfortable try to always stick together with other friends/fans whom you are more comfortable with, and if they are harassing you in any way, then speak up and notify it to security or authorities. Hope you don't have to go through this again in future shows.1 point

The most exciting thing for me about Ordinary World was seeing Sean Gunn Kirk and Billie together. It was like two of my favorite worlds colliding. The only thing missing was them stumbling into Hogwarts somehow1 point

Wow that’s cheap! The pods have been lowered here to $8.99 and they have just half a small shelf now. I can’t imagine they’ll reorder once they run out. Coffee is such a competitive space and like their former brand they can’t just rely on Green Day fans as their customer base. They need a viral ad campaign on TV and streamers1 point

99.9% of Green Day fans are absolutely lovely. Sadly however there are a few bad apples and the more shows you go to the more you notice it. The only thing I can suggest is to try to keep a low profile, don't let them know you're attending and try to find another fan who isn't involved with them or who feels the same as you to go with.1 point

I think this is going to be the standard festival setlist going forward. The videos made me so happy, I almost went to this show haha.1 point

I'd love to hear SB live again!!! That clip sounded SO GOOD💚 Hey guys👋 I was just wondering is there like a thread on here(Its kinda early I'm still tired lol so I tried looking even checked general chat but didn't see a thread) for like advice on how to deal with hateful fans(they aren't on GDC thank God) bc I saw one of them on the Saviors tour (3 dates I went to) and my whole time was kinda ruined bc they would not leave me alone. i don't want to name drop here but if anyone wants to message me idk just looking for advice. I honestly hope this is ok to post here. I'm asking this now bc i fear they'll be at one of these festivals I am going to in May to see Green Day I just want to enjoy myself and not be anxious/ stressed bc these three people have harrassed me. Long story short, I met them briefly in 2022 at a music festival, we became friends. They started treating me badly I blocked these people off all social media a year later in 2023. Haven't seen/ spoke to them since. In 2024 at 3 Saviors shows I went to, one of them (only saw one of them at these shows) started harrassing me, yelling at me in public while I was waiting with other people. I had almost said "f it" and left. I felt uncomfortable the whole entire time. It sucks... if there's a thread for advice let me know? I can repost there or if anyone wants to message me. I just kinda want to get this off my chest, see what anyone else would do in this situation? And if you have a feeling you know these people i'm talking about message me. 😕 they are not on GDC but i still don't want to name drop as i'm fearful of them. When i saw one of them at the Saviors shows they came to me out of nowhere(minding my own business just sitting / waiting with other people) and threatened me screaming at the top of their lungs. Edit to add- OMG IM SORRY My post is so long😭😭😭 anyone who takes the time to read that i appreciate you haha1 point
