Article about the tour production really, regardless of title, interesting. https://news.pollstar.com/2024/11/22/green-day-brings-punk-rock-to-coachella-stadiums-global-stages/6 points

It certainly was presented that way with the timing of the release and the packaging of the tour. The article really highlights how hard this band and everyone around them works to make these massive tours happen. Also, “Immediate Sleepless” was clearly what was heard by a journalist that never listened to Dookie😂2 points

I think everyone knows where my mind went when I saw the name of this new housing development near me. 🤣 https://www.wcax.com/2024/11/22/new-housing-vermonters-wildlife-comes-south-burlington/2 points

Could have sworn we had a band tattoo thread, but I can't find it, so I'm putting these here. Guy who did Billie's car tattoo tells his story here. Also had a couple pics of it that I don't remember seeing before.1 point

Hey party people (at least I hope that's what those young folks today say), So I've been a fan for a while and have been collecting some stuff over the years and besides doing scans of artwork I also like to scan magazines and books. Especially this year I focused on a lot of Japanese mags I wanted to share since not too many people outside of Japan have seen these or people from outside of Germany have seen the German mags I also have. Since I always wanted to have the American Idiot tour book they did (actually "just" tour rehearsal photos and dates) and since it's AI's anniversary, I wanted to share HQ scans of those as well. Since I'm a perfectionist I edited the pictures to be as close as possible to the original mag or how it "should" look digitized, these took a lot of time and I wanted to share as much as possible at once with you. There's still stuff to scan and/or edit. Here's a short list of what's coming next: Warning Tour Book, Crossbeat 2001/12, Guitar Breakers 2004/10, Crossbeat 1995/11, Crossbeat 2000/08, Visions 2009/05, (maybe) Billboard 2009/05, etc. Well, here's the link: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Hk68uJ_YwpQBby3nlLWhRAWU6_8vdAkE?usp=sharing Enjoy!1 point

Omg the alt version of AI is sooooo Warning-esque, very cool. Pulling out Everyone’s Breaking Down from the rest of Homecoming really highlighted for me how much that part sounds like Warning, too. I feel silly for never really noticing that before. Really loved this version of the song. Lowlife is SO COOL? Wow, I love it. I’m hearing a lot of 21CB in it, so interesting. Chorus is also a lot like Strange Days. Love the “I just wanna be alright” line. Homecoming is hilarious. Love some of the weird instrumentation in it and the continued lines about who is in the studio cracked me up.1 point

I did not expect half of Homecoming to be a total re-imagining. You can tell that they were still figuring out the direction for the song!1 point

probably listened to this songs uncountable times before, but they still hit like *chefs kiss* when AI got released it was the very first contact with greenday's music i had in my life, and oh boy what a ride it has been so far without them and their music my life would probably be much shittier 😄1 point

I have been avoiding this thread but I have to take it all back, Warner's box set just delivered and it's beautiful! Complete with a badge, pins and stickers and OMG the intro in the booklet from Rob Cavallo, will endeavour to transcribe and share it with you.1 point

It’s so cool hearing the origins of their big Frankenstein songs, sounds like the me, myself, and I part in homecoming became the land of make believe part in jos. So cool to finally hear the birth of American idiot1 point

Thank fucking god they had the idea for the rock opera. Songs like homecoming would effectively be useless (but pleasant) noise if they kept themselves original subjects rather than the conclusion to the album story line. I wonder how funny they thought it was seeing the serious and emotionally charged broadway cast rehearsals of homecoming knowing how that song originally started.1 point

are we gonna talk about how cool "Homecoming (Nobody Likes You)" is? I mean it's also pretty wacky ngl, but I just love how different it is to the final version. Oh and also, gimme gimme those sweet Tho Who / a quick one while he's away influences too1 point

Today is an epic day. 2004 again.1 point

Most interesting to me as a long-time fan is this fleshed-out version of the “Nobody Likes You” section of Homecoming. Mike Dirnt has always talked about his lyrical contributions to this record being minimal, as it seems to be most a child of Billie’s creation, apart from a song he said he wrote about how frustrated he was about always getting to the studio first, leaving him feeling alone. Thus, you hear the full version of this composition on this record!! Finally!! This was such a great moment as someone who’s loved this record the past 20 years. “Lowlife” is another great highlight amongst the bonus material, taking one of the melodies from “Jesus of Suburbia” and fleshing it out into an uptempo rocker, featuring soaring harmonies over its chorus and almost giving an unexpectedly uplifting vibe with its hopeful yet desperate lyrics. Just a great rerelease all around, I only wish there were more1 point

Absolutely loving “everyone’s breaking down”. That is my favourite part in homecoming so to have it as it’s own stand alone song is amazing. Particularly liking thislyric; “pick up the pace and don’t be late, hurry up and wait”1 point

I am just 3 minutes into homecoming and oh my god this is the greatest fucking thing ever. And they start it off with one of my favorite guitar riffs of the whole album hell yeah Updated: just started lowlife and got so much happier1 point

I find it hilarious the transition between "where did the drummer go" to "nobody cares" 😂1 point

It's much more of a direct Who parody that's for sure, and I love all the Billie, Mike and Tre references instead of the AI characters.1 point

ok the homecoming demo is something ... wow lmao 😅 i won't spoil it - you need to listen to it yourselves to experience it1 point

*SPOILERS* - American Idiot (Alt. Version) completely different lyrics and a new short, completely different bridge, which was a nice surprise - Novacaine and Whatsername are the same ones from the demo disc that leaked a week or two ago, just a better mix. - Clusterbomb is Letterbomb with Warning production, slightly faster with in your face intro. I love it - Homecoming is when the new stuff starts coming in - a lot of different short songs, parts, lyrics, a more obvious influence of A Quick One by The Who, even a hardcore punk element in Tre's song part. Overall I love it - Everyone’s Breaking Down and Just Another Year are original songs of which core parts were later on used in Homecoming (the intro and part after Rock n Roll Girlfriend) - Lowlife definitely heavily influenced ¡Viva la Gloria! and later on Strange Days Are Here To Stay. It's really nice Sadly, there's no completely new or unheard songs that don't have elements of already released songs, but overall this is still absolutely awesome to hear. I love this band.1 point
