They have every show pro shot actually. At least since the 90s I believe. When they signed to a major label. Theyβre recorded and stored for archival reasons. For documentaries and live home releases, and special releases such as this oneβ¦ etc. So itβs not a surprise they have the entire Warfield show. In fact, if you find photos from that gig, youβll notice there were plenty of cameras recording them off stage. Footage was bound to be released eventually. If there was ever a Green Day gig that you wonder about being recorded, chances are pro shot footage exists. Now whether they choose to ever release it, depends on them and whatever management wants. Sometimes pro shot footage or audio is leaked by someone on the crew who intercepted it at the mixing table. Either a roadie or a tech.5 points

It warms my heart to see how big of a role Homecoming is for the entire process around the album and how it ends up "forming" the album You get a feeling that the album is really about that song, in many ways. The new documentary is fun! I think they used a little too much footage from HLAHG and BIAB, and too little from the Otis interview/other footages from the AI tour. We Are The Champions must be from BIAB, that's a really nice "easter egg" - please please please release the whole thing, GD π€©5 points

Got the box set today, and I'm watching the doc now. Holy shit are the live songs amazing. Honestly, it looks and sounds better than BIAB did. If they have these songs on pro-shot, I wonder if they have the rest of the Warfield show as well. That would be fucking great to see one day.3 points

So according to a new interview in Music Connection, those seven extra songs from FOAM ended up on Saviors https://www.musicconnection.com/green-day-american-saviors/?fbclid=IwZXh0bgNhZW0CMTEAAR1VPiOda1skdxhyjJzMYycP9-1OCGE0d1aFOIDpHf_I4Sf6mY3EnR8cMoE_aem_TfmCM_s5iKC_7GPSWFZJcg Quote: βBut it mustnβt be forgotten that Green Day is promoting the Saviors album, a typically brilliant slab of work that is snotty, zany, and important in equal measure. Armstrong has said that there are seven songs on this record that didnβt make it onto the last one, the Butch Walker-produced Father of All Motherfuckers, making it all the more startling that this album is so good, that it flows so beautifully.β I remember they said TADIKM was from those sessions and they added it later. What do we think were the other six? And how on earth could those FOAM songs be so underwritten and mid and these Saviors songs are great? They donβt sound like they came from the same time period at all, unless he completely rewrote them later and made them all better2 points

So I just looked up the event calendars of some other possible (indoor) venues in Germany: The Olympiahalle in Munich has an event listed from 18th - 21st, so that's definitely out. The Westfalenhalle in Dortmund could be possible. There's an event listed from 14th - 15th and after that nothing else in June Festhalle in Frankfurt has nothing listed in June yet Quarterback Immobilien Arena in Leipzig also has nothing listed in June yet Rudolf Weber-Arena in Oberhausen has something listed on 14th and the next one on 24th ZAG Arena in Hannover has something listed on 17th and the next one on the 26th. So, that's for now π There may be other venues and of course more cities, but those are the ones that spontaneously came to my mind besides Cologne.2 points

Finally watched the documentary! I was talking to my dad throughout good chunks of it so Iβll definitely have to watch it again, but I enjoyed it a lot, specially the bits where they were just doing silly things on tour. Also read the booklet, so now I can say Iβve fully digested this whole thing.2 points

On this day 15 years ago (31 October 2009), the Foxboro Hot Tubs played a surprise set at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England, before Green Day came on. They played Stop, Drop & Roll, Mother Mary and Sally. This was such an incredible treat for the fans who thought they were "just" getting a Green Day show. I was 14, it was my fourth show and I was not expecting anything like this. I thought I'd just never see the Foxboro Hot Tubs. Here's what I wrote back then: "It was Halloween. I hung back while my mum looked at merch after Prima Donna. Music was playing inside. It sounded awfully familiar. Was I hallucinating? Because I was sure I could hear Stop, Drop & Roll! I squeezed past people to alert my mum. βPrima Donna are playing the Foxboro Hot Tubs!β My mum stopped. Listened. Then her eyes widened. βThatβs not Kevin, itβs BILLIE!β We ran from the merch stand to our seats. In our mad charge down the steps, we knocked over someoneβs beer. They just laughed. The steps buckled and we almost fell. Everyone around us looked baffled as we stumbled clapping and singing into our seats. The Reverend Strychnine Twitch, AKA Billie, sprayed Carling beer β a British replacement for his signature Pabst Blue Ribbon β over the front row. His blond head darted all over the stage. TrΓ© wore a leopard print shirt and Jason a fluffy white coat. In Mother Mary, Billie threw down his tambourine to leap into the crowd. Security helped him back up. 'My name is the Reverend Strychnine Twitch and yes, we are the proverbial Foxboro Hot Tubs.β" Another fan who submitted his story for the We Are Revolution Radio book also wrote about this, so I'd like to share that too. The mention of the show is towards the end but I'm including the whole thing because it's a lovely story and it shows how special this was for everyone who realised what was going on (crazily many didn't). More photos: And then Green Day played their show afterwards. My recap: "The intro to 21st Century Breakdown still unleashed butterflies in my stomach. In Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Billie told us, βlast night in the last song I split my pants. I did that splits thing and my whole butt was hanging out after that.β It was also the last outing of the leopard print thong. That night, as 21 Guns faded to drum rolls, I expected Minority. Instead, in an explosion of pyros and energy Billie roared βMASS HYSTERIA!β and I was swept up in exactly that; mass hysteria as I screamed along to one of my all-time favourite songs, American Eulogy, that I missed on the second night in Birmingham. In my own blurry video, Iβm deafeningly loud as I bellow βvigilantes warning ya, CALLING CHRISTIAN AND GLORIA!β over Billieβs βRIGHT HERE IN MANCHESTER!β It was unreal. Thousands of people were in a shared ecstasy conducted by a tight performance. We watched through moments of quiet while Billie stamped his foot to solos, basking in the bandβs talent and energy, religiously echoing βheeeeeey-ooooohhhhhhβ as Mike sang his last verseβ¦ β¦and we screamed in unison β βI DONβT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE MODERN AGE!β β¦and the song exploded into its final chorus. βI donβt wanna live in the modern world! I donβt wanna live in the modern world! I donβt wanna live in the modern world β MASS HYSTERIA! In the modern world β MASS HYSTERIA! In the modern world β MASS HYSTERIA! In the modern world β MASS HYSTERIA! In the modern worldβ¦β Then the music stopped and 21,000 voices, alone with Billieβs and Mikeβs, echoed that we didnβt want to live in the modern world, mass hysteriaβ¦ until Billie sang like an anthem, βnobody likes you, everyone left you, theyβre all out without you, having fun!β over Mike and, as TrΓ© conducted with his drumsticks, we joined him. The world could have ended then and I would have felt the bricks crashing down were healing gold dust. I could hear the sound of my own beating heart. The heartbeat of a kid who was stifled but now impassioned, inspired and ready to smash the silence with a brick of self control." More photos: 18 years ago (31 October 2008), The Saints Are Coming was released as a single. 20 years ago (31 October 2004), Green Day played the Patriot Center in Fairfax, VA on the American idiot Tour. 25 years ago (31 October 1999), Green Day played a second night for the Bridge School Benefit at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA. 26 years ago (31 October 1998), Green Day played the Parque Sarmiento in Buenos Aires, Argentina on the Nimrod Tour. It was their first show in Argentina. More photos: 27 years ago (31 October 1997), Green Day played Liberty Lunch in Austin, TX on the Nimrod Tour. 29 years ago (31 October 1995), Green Day played the Metro Centre in Halifax, Canada on the Insomniac Tour. 30 years ago (31 October 1994), Green Day played the Sports Arena in San Diego, CA on the Dookie Tour. 33 years ago (31 October 1991), Green Day played Ungdomshuset in Copenhagen, Denmark. "The list of now-superstars who have played in Ungdomshuset is very long. They came there before anybody else in Copenhagen knew who Bjork and Nick Cave were and in 1991 an American teenage punk band called Green Day played in the Ungdomshuset before shooting off to world fame." β Nikolaj Heltoft "After the ο¬rst week, when they discovered that it's a Danish tradition for punks to throw beer at bands they like, their instruments were toast. Luckily - for him - Armstrong had brought Lawrence Livermore's amp instead of his own. Replacing the instruments was out of the question, as they were barely earning enough money to keep everyone fed and traveling from show to show. The band ended up borrowing new equipment every night. 'Seriously,' says Tre Cool, 'I was using guys' kits where the drummer would say, 'If you screw up my kit, I'm gonna stab you.''" 35 years ago (31 October 1989), Green Day played the Los Robles Lodge in Santa Rosa, CA. "We played this show with them, Halloween 1989 in Santa Rosa. Victim's Family and Green Day. It was a benefit. And people wouldn't give Green Day ten bucks for gas to get home in their fucking VW van. This alleged benefit, and people left them stranded with their van." β Ralph Spight Your most iconic quote. Even better than, "I don't know anything about Turkey, Green Day don't play there (despite having been to Turkey)."2 points

They sold the standing tickets as Golden Circle I think. The seating tickets were first come first served, but we managed to get really good seats.1 point

Every Pinhead Gunpowder song sounds very mid. Very generic as hell. This album would sound cool if I was extremely only into this sound of music, and couldnt branch out to something different. Boring. Im sure it took this long for very mid tier music to make it to you. Good luck.1 point

I feel like they ""beef""" that happened pre MM2020P2 was interested to happen during promotion of the re-release of MM2020 on reprise, which could prove that End Of the World is Roshambo as I could totally see Green Day make a press release saying that The Network "stole" an unfinished demo and that this new song would be the finished project. Govenator however, likely would have been recorded with Hammer of the God's and their cover of Teenagers From Mars as that would match up perfectly with the timeline1 point

The pre-chorus of Lowlife has been bothering me because of its familiarity, and it's just occured to me why... Sounds very similar to the bridge from that song BJA did with with Penelope Houston - The Angel and the Jerk. 0:42 here for the uninitiated (of course you are)1 point

Good grief. Today the mail person came to deliver the boxset and instead of trying to reach me through the intercom, they just left a notice they had come and for me to go the post office to pick up the parcel on MONDAY (because tomorrow is a holiday, and why even bother on Saturday). They could have left this on Monday this week and I could have picked it up by Tuesday.π And it would have been so perfect to get it today precisely because it's a long weekend, I could have consumed the whole thing over these 3 days. Oh well, I'll go continue listening to Black Eyeliner.1 point

The Insomniac era is my favorite era!! I was told that the band didn't want to make any music videos for that record in particular1 point

Another famous "lost" album is Weezer's "Songs From The Black Hole". Some of the material was recycled for Pinkerton, and most of the other material has been released by peacemeal over the years despite fans wanting a full album, but multiple songs were never officially recorded other than demos. Since both bands are coincidentally managed by Crush, it appears that both Crush and their respective record labels don't have either band under any sort of pressure to release comprehensive versions of the lost albums.1 point

i mean, even after they got 86'd green day did still care about the Gilman Street Scene (which is why i think IWBOTV wont make it onto insomniac 30th cuz surely they heard about Fang being a major part of a boycott of the Gilman back during 2016) so it wouldnt surprise me if some parts of C&V/AI were based off of bands from that scene1 point

American Idiot verse might stem from this song. Check out Fifteen, if you haven't already, loved them ever since I was introduced to them through a Green Day cover of one of their other songs 20+ years ago. Fifteen (before that Crimpshrine) were part of the Bay Area and Gilman Street scene. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-90sL7jp3bY1 point

On this day 5 years ago (30 October 2019), Green Day played La Riviera in Madrid. Fun fact: they also played La Riviera in 1998 and 2000. More photos: 15 years ago (30 October 2009), Green Day played at the MEN Arena in Manchester, England on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. I still remember a few bits clearly from this show β "I split my pants," the crowd singing Boulevard of Broken Dreams, 2000 Light Years Away, Coming Clean and the general magical feeling. Here's what younger me wrote: "On the bus to our hotel, we met another mother-and-daughter pair on their way to the show. I stuck six A4 sheets together to make a βPLAY Β‘VIVA LA GLORIA!β banner before we left. This time our seats were on Mikeβs side. Watching Prima Donna and the drunk bunny, I was nervous. But once I heard those opening chords of 21st Century Breakdown, saw my heroes run onstage, I knew I would be alright. The songs I was hearing for a second, third time were as fresh as ever. Security followed Billie as he ran up into the seats in Know Your Enemy and East Jesus Nowhere. In Boulevard of Broken Dreams, he announced heβd split his pants. βDid anyone see my balls?β After Boulevard of Broken Dreams, I held up my banner. Billie stopped and squinted. People around us were screaming βheβs seen it, heβs seen it, heβs seen it!β and he pointed before yelling into the band mic. They began 2000 Light Years Away. The guys behind us were laughing, saying he misread it. I have no idea if it was really anything to do with my banner, but it was funny either way β and thrilling since they werenβt playing that regularly. Hitchinβ a Ride was followed by Coming Clean. It was a furious performance of a poignant song. Everyone was dancing. This time, I noticed a stencil of Gloria was the backdrop for She. With that, the 15 year-old song joined the narrative of 21st Century Breakdown. In King for a Day, Billie sang snippets of Stand By Me, I Fought the Law and Champagne Supernova. 21 Guns remained as emotional as that first night. Maybe even more so. Because, though I hadnβt quite figured out what yet, I knew something was worth fighting for. That bridge was my favourite moment of every set. It was all surreal. Watching the confetti spray out again; hearing a passionate Jesus of Suburbia and seeing the show close, lights dimmed and band bowing, with Last Night on Earth, Wake Me Up When September Ends and Good Riddance." Disclaimer: The bannner was only out for a minute between songs but I wouldn't take anything like that to a show now. I was 14. The merch: A typically crappy photo I took during King for a Day: More decent photos: 20 years ago (30 October 2004), Green Day played the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ on the American Idiot Tour. 25 years ago (30 October 1999), Green Day played the Bridge School Benefit at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, CA. More photos: 27 years ago (30 October 1997), Green Day played Deep Ellum Live in Dallas, TX on the Nimrod Tour. 32 years ago (30 October 1992), Green Day played the Berkeley Square nightclub. "This show was hella weird, but not the first time that Green Day played with terrible funk rock bands that were inexplicably popular in the Bay Area back then. Bands like Psychefunkapus, Limbomaniacs, Fungo Mungo, Bluchunks (who were not terrible), Compost, etc. I still went because it was only $6 and it was Green Day!" β Anthony Lew 33 years ago (30 October 1991), Green Day played BZ Huset in Aarhus, Denmark. In hindsight I can't believe we did that!!! I do remember that all the Costa Ricans on GDC were absolutely certain there'd still be tickets left, but I'd be shitting myself all the way to San Jose if I did that today.1 point
