A little quick break-down, based on New Zealand snippets on Qobuz: American Idiot (Alternate version) = Earlier version of the song with different lyrics. (the unreleased song "Idiot" on Nimrod springs to mind, could there be a connection?) Homecoming = New parts we haven't heard before Everyone's Breaking Down = Whole song based off the "here the come marching down the street" (by favorite, by the way) part in Homecoming. Just Another Year = A whole song based on what is now the accapella intro in Homecoming. Lowlife = A new song where verses seems to be what later became the "Dearly Beloved" part in Jesus of Suburbia. Potentielly with a very different feel though as it's a entirely different drum beat and tempo. I know other people here have heard the full songs, but I thought I could create a post like this so we have the details in a more condensed form10 points

I can't believe it's already been 1 year since the single was released, especially after 3 years of endless 1972 speculation leading up to this!!!!!!!!!8 points

This is not just any election though. This election will decide whether we save our democracy or elect a fascist president. I have absolutely no problem with anyone celebrity or not, telling people to vote for the only anti-fascist candidate on the ballot. Preach Billie! 💚4 points

I really don't see the difference in saying he's voting for her and good things about her etc and that people should vote, and saying you should vote for her. It's the same message. Everyone knows when someone supports a candidate and is anti the other candidate that means they think you should vote for their candidate. I don't get why people don't like when they say it, why pretend? They've been heavily promoting registering to vote/using your vote, and they've been speaking out heavily against Trump. The logical conclusion is they think people should vote for Kamala Harris rather than voting for Trump or allowing Trump to win by not voting or wasting their vote on a candidate that can't beat him at a time where real harm will be done by him winning, regardless if they literally say it or not.4 points

I listened to it for the 2nd time, it's a fun album that I will definitely listen to more. I feel like the Billie songs here are Scum of the Earth, Nothing Ever Happens, the chorus of Draw It In gave Billie vibes, Hola Canada! and Trash TV. Could feel some of that sweet BJ DNA in the melodies. Reminded me of Saviors and The Longshot, those songs.3 points

Had to watch this after your post, Courtney was hilarious about Billie, she was leaning over the desk, waving her arms and saying “OMG you guys, he looks like he eats virgins for breakfast… 😂 she also said she didn’t believe Billie Joe would scream at someone (one of the answer options) “he’s too well tempered”3 points

September 2002 was the 20th anniversary of his Dad’s passing so the whole “twenty years has gone so fast” thing might have been what inspired him to finally write a song about it. He probably didn’t worry about what he was going to do with it, he just had to write it. I recall HLAHG when he said “This song is kicking my ass” and Mike replied “It’s about time you wrote this one”3 points

Yeah this convinces me I was at least half correct with my C&V theory, and that they're basically the same album C&V and AI, because as said they basically borrowed a few parts from that album too despite starting from scratch. I'm convinced as well considering they seem to at least, have concepted the story and characters during the process of writing for AI that the 5 demo track we got was from cigarettes and valentines era of the sessions because 1. there's no references to any AI characters or themes in those songs 2. they are very early versions 3. like you said, the novacaine seems to be faster like the "Faster version" they were talking about and 4th extra point, they also bring up radio baghdad in one of those paragraphs, which is also on the cd also in general they sound like very early demos compared to the AI ones we have, maybe explaining why the AI versions are more polished just realised my last point is the same as the 2nd but yeah lol3 points

As mentioned above: Everyone's Breaking Down is a complete song that is based off the music and beat/tempo of the "here they come marching down the street" - I love it. Just Another Year is a complete song that builds from the very first verse of Homecoming "My heart is beating from me I am standing all alone Please call me only if you are coming home JUST (instead of waste) another year flies by" Lowlife is a complete song framed with the "Dearly Beloved" part from JOS. Hope that helps, It might help to think of them as three complete or 'new songs' with only pieces of them incorporated in to JOS and Homecoming.3 points

Nimrod and Warning are quite highly rated by serious Green Day fans. They don't get as much love outside the fanbase though. The trilogy is their most underrated work in my opinion. That's also more popular on GDC these days, but people everywhere else still hate it, and it gets less love from Mike and Tre than any of their other work. Are there some duds? Yeah (such as Carpe Diem and Little Boy Named No Thanks), but some of Billie's best love songs are on there. Fell For You and Angel Blue perfectly capture the feeling of knowing you're falling for someone you shouldn't. Oh Love conveys the frustration of that person holding back. Fuck Time and Stop When the Red Lights Flash are like two fanfics: one is trashy but fun and the other is actually tasteful and of the same quality as any professionally published work. Wild One is a glorious celebration of giving in to a love that might kill you, but it's worth it. Stray Heart is a bop. Brutal Love is an absolute masterpiece. Missing You is a fun and cute song that does what it's supposed to do. 8th Avenue Serenade is my favourite Green Day song. I'm biased because my first love also serenaded me on 8th Avenue, but it's such a beautiful, intimate portrayal of what a simple place can come to mean to people who are in love, and it perfectly conveys being scared to hope that something might come of it even though you already know you're hoping it will. And then there are the non-love songs like Rusty James and Lazy Bones that are also very high quality. Thank you for coming to my Regular Trilogy 4 Lyf Session. Next episode probably coming the next time I've had as little sleep as I have recently. RevRad is also seriously underrated. 21st Century Breakdown does get some love from fans now, but not enough considering what a masterpiece it is. 8th Avenue Serenade is my favourite Green Day song, but 21st Century Breakdown is my favourite album. If only it could get an anniversary tour... I know it won't and why, but if only.3 points

In the booklet they talk about cigarettes and valentines being a power pop record and thats evident in these demos, American idiot is definitely more alternative rock, they obviously made a point to make american idiot a record that had a harder edge, probably helped by the fact that they had the narrative of the many failings george bush presidency and Iraq. This new found drive and focus in the state of pop culture and politics in 2004 bled into the music and their process. This drive and energy shown by the group was a key driving factor in why American idiot had the impact it had and the staying power it continues to have both musically and culturally even in 2024. Also American Idiot itself prides itself on the ethos of punk which Billie Joe makes point of detailing what Punk is about in the booklet. Very Interesting and supports the fact that American Idiot well and truly gave a Green Day a second wind and cemented themselves as more than a legacy pop punk act,2 points

*SPOILERS* - American Idiot (Alt. Version) completely different lyrics and a new short, completely different bridge, which was a nice surprise - Novacaine and Whatsername are the same ones from the demo disc that leaked a week or two ago, just a better mix. - Clusterbomb is Letterbomb with Warning production, slightly faster with in your face intro. I love it - Homecoming is when the new stuff starts coming in - a lot of different short songs, parts, lyrics, a more obvious influence of A Quick One by The Who, even a hardcore punk element in Tre's song part. Overall I love it - Everyone’s Breaking Down and Just Another Year are original songs of which core parts were later on used in Homecoming (the intro and part after Rock n Roll Girlfriend) - Lowlife definitely heavily influenced ¡Viva la Gloria! and later on Strange Days Are Here To Stay. It's really nice Sadly, there's no completely new or unheard songs that don't have elements of already released songs, but overall this is still absolutely awesome to hear. I love this band.2 points

Excited to hear some of those “newer” songs but sad there are no genuine unheard b-sides or goodies like that. Hopefully someone uploads the documentary and I avoided a $70 purchase for nothing lol.2 points

Anyone else thinks that "Sleepyhead" could have developed into Novacaine? An earlier, albeit faster, version of it? If you think of it, "sleepyhead" would be a fitting description of the potential effects of Novocaine, judging by whats written about it: If so, it (obviously) also makes perfect sense that it's not on the B-side disc Roecker posted, as the song made it unto the final album under the name Novacaine. There's no way to know if the song lengths would even be remotely close though, since Sleepheads is just mentioned by name, no other details, in that Warning behind-the-scenes footage. Perhaps we get to know sometime in the future.2 points

It's just the fact they're already so vocally anti Trump and pro using your vote. Like, it's pretty clear that means they think people should vote for the other candidate. It's true that we already know the reasons why. I think encouraging people to vote is a good thing and when it's already so clear which candidate he supports adding vote for Kamala doesn't change anything about his message. I think he did a little smile because he knows it's cheeky to say it though lol2 points
-
Check this out, so they still go with the "tapes mysteriously disappearing" thing which atp I think it's obvious that we know they didn't (for people who were still doubting) also confirmed that a faster version of novacaine was recorded for C&V, and maybe im misreading but extraordinary girl too? very interesting2 points

This is why I need to stay away from here few hours before it's time or I will spoiler myself. I will listen to Green Day albums non stop the last few hours to keep myself busy, as I don't trust my dumbass self2 points

100% Agree!! Actually, Nimrod and Warning are my two favorite GD albums ever. They are good valued albums among, let's say in this way... "non-casual fans". I agree also the trilogy is underrated, especially ¡DOS! I know trilogy has high and lows, but for me ¡DOS! is a solid album (I just don't like... AMY. I don't feel it as a good closer song for that album).2 points

See I’m in the UK and could’ve brought it from elsewhere but I wanted the exclusive items from the Green Day store because this album is my favourite album of all time and it also inspired me to get into music and play guitar etc etc. The UK shipping rates aren’t that bad I don’t think but they are bad when compared to level of service of getting the items on time. I don’t think it’s the delivery companies that are the problem it’s in fact the Warner store operators and works that couldn’t hit water if they fell out of a boat. Useless and unprofessional and unorganised in my opinion and experience I’ve had with them. the scratched vinyl you got sounds dreadful, I would’ve been the same as you and hounded them for a refund as that’s not good enough. But since talking to you guys in here about them and twitter and Reddit, Not one person has had a good experience with them I have found. Says a lot that! I will keep you posted and tell you what year it arrives at this rate 😂 🤦♂️2 points

I only order at the official store if they have exclusive stuff (store-only vinyl variants, etc.) and this time I "had" to order the AI vinyl package, just because there's something extra included that's not in the other regular boxes (sigh). Don't become collectors, kids - haha Around 2013-2014 I ordered some t-shirts from an official GD store and there was some weird stuff sown into the t-shirt and I was able to see it clearly and I felt it when I wore it and I contacted the store and sent them pictures and they did not budge and told me that it was no production mishap and basically told me that it's bad luck for me and they did not offer anything in return - no refund, no sorry, nothing. From that day on I decided not to buy t-shirts from official GD stores and I think I barely bought new GD t-shirts since. Mostly also because I never LOVED any print that much to actually buy it. Recently the designs are getting better, but meh...not for me from the official stores. I have my standards (waves a cane in the air at all the young kids)2 points

I feel Insomniac and Warning are hugely under appreciated. They are both such great albums (better than Dookie I would argue). I also think RevRad doesn't get as much love as it deserves.2 points

Yeah, they are awful. My worst experience with them was with the No Fun Mondays vinyl, which got shipped two MONTHS after the release date 😒2 points

i dont get why Jaded got robbed twice with 2 separate releases of shows from this era it got cut from BIAB (despite the fact that its a minute long and there are more forgettable songs on there *cough* basket case) and now both it, longview and brain stew are the only 3 songs MISSING from this release of Irving Plaza1 point

Just got my vinyl set delivered 🔥1 point

I did not expect that, to be honest. They never did 2 days Vienna in a row, as far as I remember.1 point

Novacaine guitars seem to be the ones used on the final version actually, they sound exactly the same. the little guitar intro in American Idiot too in the second verse of Lowlife we can hear what became the guitar solo from Letterbomb too1 point

😂 My issue with the Trilogy is not that there are not good songs in it. I agree, there are some amazing songs in there! My issue is that you could have put all those good songs in one album, name it !Uno, Dos, Trè! and spare us the rest, because the bad songs in it can get really bad. I have softened about this in my old age and I have grown to accept the Trilogy and that even the artists that have spoiled us with high quality album after high quality album are allowed to have fun and get more experimental for an album, or two, or trè, or cuatro (and by cuatro I mean Father of All) 😅1 point

She's A Rebel demo also sounds like it was recorded with the 3 "new" songs Lowlife is mostly a new song1 point

Was watching a recent episode of Nevermind the Buzzcocks and there was a whole section about Green Day. There was a question about Mike shitting onto Juliette Binoche's balcony, a question about Tre having one testicle, Greg made a joke about Billie looking young and Courtney Love kept going on about how amazing Billie is for doing 2-3 hour shows at his age and barely breaking a sweat lol1 point

Definitely contact them, I’ve always found their customer service excellent.1 point
