  1. On this day 2 years ago (22 September 2022), Green Day played Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL. More photos: 7 years ago (22 September 2017), Billie Joe performed Ordinary World on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. More photos: 8 years ago (22 September 2016), the Still Breathing lyric video was released. 13 years ago (22 September 2011), Green Day played a secret show billed as a "Bay Area Music Fan Appreciation Event" at 1-2-3-4 GO! Records in Oakland, CA. A fan asked them to play Fuck Time again and Billie replied, "I'm old now. I can only do Fuck Time once." More photos: 20 years ago (22 September 2004), Green Day played Park Place in NYC on the American Idiot Tour. 27 years ago (22 September 1997), Green Day played in Cologne, Germany on the Nimrod Tour. 29 years ago (22 September 1995), Green Day played the Manchester Apollo in (you guessed it) Manchester, England on the Insomniac Tour. "We had standing tickets so were very near to the front throughout the whole night. The support band, Riverdales, were very good and finished with a cover of the Ramones song Blitzkrieg Bop in which Billie Joe came out to sing. Green Day started off with Welcome to Paradise and from that point on the mosh pit went mental! Remember, this was my first standing gig, but I did not feel threatened at all, as Billie Joe kept telling the crowd to pick people up. I think this was the last tour when Tre Cool picked up the guitar to play All By Myself and Dominated Love Slave. Considering Kerplunk was the album before Dookie, it was strange seeing so many blank faces when they played songs from this album. I don't really remember much of the set (it was mostly from Dookie) but we were treated to hear three songs from their next album, Insomniac (Geek Stink Breath, Stuck With Me, Jaded). For their encore Billie Joe switched from his trademark guitar, Blue, to a nice Cherry Red Gibson SG which, after the final song, Jaded, he threw into the air to smash the damn thing to pieces. Tre also wrecked his drums and a lucky kid got to take the bass drum home and someone else got half a guitar. All in all, it was a brilliant night, my first experience of a a proper mosh pit and my first taste of Green Day live! If only they could have stayed the way they were in '95. On the coach home I was accused as being a know-it-all by a complete stranger who had asked what Green Day's drummer was called, so I told them and then received the insult..." — fan experience 31 years ago (22 September 1993), Green Day played in Jacksonville, FL while supporting Bad Religion. It really was. I’ll be the first to say that not everything is as it seems in the entertainment industry, but that was true friendship there. I hadn't actually thought about that before either. I don't think anyone did at the time. Incredible recovery! Thanks for looking! Doing my best to keep people looking at good old GDC. Can't believe an internet forum means so much to me but here we are.

  10. Wow I hadn’t realized I heart radio happened on the 8th anniversary of American Idiot coming out. What an eventful day in Green Day’s history. There’s probably other timelines where Green Day could’ve been gone after 2012, but here we are in this wonderful timeline with this fucking awesome tour celebrating the history of the band with a great new album out as well. Amen. Also it’s pretty (Tre) cool to see Tre holding the cameraman. I’ve never seen that before.

  19. On this day 12 years ago (21 September 2012), Green Day played the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, NV. I’m not going to post any photos of the meltdown, but I’ll post Tre trying to stop the cameraman filming Billie. 19 years ago (21 September 2005), Green Day played in Salt Lake City, UT on the American Idiot Tour. "The always entertaining and mucho energetic Armstrong ran around all parts of the stage encouraging the crowd to chant, clap and even do the wave. He kept the shrieking level high with calls of 'Salt Lake City!' while pyrotechnics went off at different points of the night on a stage built to resemble a totalitarian political rally." — Deseret News 20 years ago (21 September 2004), Green Day played Irving Plaza in NYC on the American Idiot Tour. More photos: American Idiot was also released 20 years ago today. 24 years ago (21 September 2000), Green Day played in Barcelona, Spain on the Warning Tour. 27 years ago (21 September 1997), Green Day played in Cologne, Germany on the Nimrod Tour. 29 years ago (21 September 1995), Green Day played a second night at Brixton Academy in London, England on the Insomniac Tour. 33 years ago (21 September 1991), Green Day played at Cloyne Court in Berkeley, CA. "I saw Green Day in the basement of a co-op house with five other bands for $5 in 1991. They came from punk. Billie Joe was practically living on the streets then and you could smell him from across the room." — Christopher Federico "Sept. 21, 1991. Benefit for the Slingshot anarchist newspaper. Surely one of the greatest Cloyne shows ever. Cops broke up the show, as was too common back in the day. People climbing out the windows of the dining room (where the bands were playing) to get away. Green Day didn't get to finish their set." — Anthony Lew

  21. Excited to be here. Glad to have waited and get tickets today, priced great $75 each I got 2 tickets front row second level. I met the girl to get printed tickets from her. So made my way to SF an hour ago. Got in and seated, great front row seats! She said she sold them cheap because she just wanted somebody to enjoy the concert tonight since she could not go.
