  4. Green Day gets to Milwaukee early, enjoys Lakefront Brewery fish fry Lakefront's own resident punk rock musician and aficionado Andy Junk (aka the brewery's Export Manager Andy Jungwirth) posted the above photo with frontman Billie Joe Armstrong on Facebook. "I was on my way out the door at Lakefront and some coworkers flagged me down and were like, Is that Green Day?'," Jungwirth posted, noting that the band was enjoying the beer hall's beloved fish fry, a little after 5 p.m. Friday, at the brewery, 1872 N. Commerce St. "I immediately went into the fact that I flew to Berkeley to see a Pinhead Gunpowder reunion show (referring to a band Armstrong is in). He asked 'At Gilman Street?' and I said 'No, at Starry Plough in 2000.' and just left him alone to enjoy dinner." https://onmilwaukee.com/articles/green-day-lakefront This Green Day's Overlooked B-Side Could Easily Be One of the Band's Greatest Songs: Here's Why With the 20th anniversary of Green Day's iconic "American Idiot" album fast approaching, they've started putting out some new tracks to celebrate. While we'll have a lot of coverage of that album closer to the big day, one of the recent releases warrants some discussion here on Ultimate Guitar. "Favorite Son" was the first unreleased track to be unveiled, though many of us are still awaiting new releases of "Governator," "Shoplifter," and "Too Much Too Soon." What makes "Favorite Son" so distinct, though, is how thoroughly punk and seemingly outside of the "American Idiot" storyline it is. You can easily see why the band opted to take it off the album, as the title track kind of serves this purpose as the bombastic barn burner. But that unfortunate decision will luckily no longer prevent most of us from enjoying this tune any longer. https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/articles/features/this_green_days_overlooked_b-side_could_easily_be_one_of_the_bands_greatest_songs_heres_why-168972 Green Day tribute coming to Sioux City Hard Rock SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Sioux City Hard Rock Hotel & Casino is paying homage to the 20-time Grammy-nominated punk legends Green Day with the tribute act “NOT. 9. I'm a feminist but... Seeing the video of BJA jumping into the crowd to fight an asshat who was harassing a girl at a show (this is going back to the 90s) gave me the warm and tinglies.

  10. I think this is my favourite Green Day fan story of all time. I wasn’t even sad that I wasn’t there because I was so excited that you were… and you were surviving the mud. Just chilling in the shoe-sucking mud at 54 years old! I remember you saying it was a good job I hadn't gone because I'd have been wearing my Uno Converse

  11. So here's the requested Leeds 2013 story. I still can't believe this was eleven years ago! So it was the last show of the tour and we found ourselves thinking “Green Day are in England, why aren’t we there?” But we could only afford for one of us to go. @solongfromthestars said I should go and bought my National Express ticket. It was already about 3PM when I left and the trains weren’t running! I had to get the rail replacement “Magic Bus” and then the National Express to Leeds was late. I was really panicking. When I got to Leeds one of the guys at the bus station said there wasn’t going to be a bus to the festival until long after Green Day started. I thought I was completely fucked and the guy obviously saw my face! Everyone in the bus station was invested in me getting there when this old double decker bus came trundling in. If you’re British you might know what I mean when I say it was like a scene out of On the Buses. The original guy shouted “QUICK! RUN!” And I was like “FUCK!” The driver had to stop somewhere for me to buy the ticket and then get back on. Once I got off the bus at the festival it was just mud. Everywhere I looked, mud. Everywhere I walked, mud. The guy who let me in said “don’t you know Green Day have cancelled?” My face probably said it all and he said “oh no just joking” and put my wristband on. I must have had to walk almost a mile to the stage. The mud just got worse and worse the further you went! It was sucking my shoes off and I kept having to fish them out. Green Day had just started 99 Revolutions as I got to the main stage. I didn’t see the bunny or anything. I went all the way down Mike’s side waving my arm in the air and singing “99 revolutions tonight!” I stopped second row near the screen. It rained all night and of course because I’d rushed off I didn’t have any supplies. Everyone else had umbrellas, ponchos, wellies, and I was just there in my Green Day t-shirt, skirt and slip on shoes! I didn’t regret anything at all of course. The show was incredible. It was insane to hear Dookie again. When they started playing A Quick One I couldn’t believe my ears. I knew how lucky I was. And Walk Away! I was just rocking out the whole time getting even more covered in mud. I tried to go to one of the merch booths but the mud just made it impossible. I put my foot in the puddle in front of it and my shoe just got sucked straight in. I bet they couldn’t sell anything! Everyone was chanting “we all paid £200 to walk through gravy” all the way from the stage to the bus stop. I must have been on one of the last buses out and some of them couldn’t get out of the mud. I met another GDCer in the bus station who’d had to get a taxi back. Another fan I knew from a previous tour had some brand new purple trainers. I’d said to her on Twitter “have a nice time” so when she saw me she said “WHAT the fuck are YOU doing here?” Someone else had Dookie Converse on… The bus home was quite empty but the toilet door was opening and closing all the way and there was a woman in there who'd been at the festival squealing. I had to go and sit in the 24 hour McDonald’s when I got back to Nottingham until the first train at 8AM. When I got home @solongfromthestars took a photo of me with the mud all the way up to my torso! Sadly we couldn’t find the picture. I still have the clothes somewhere. It was a good job I wore my old shoes because they were completely written off after that! That was one of the wildest things I’ve done even for Green Day. I think I actually got a job at the hospital just because I told them about it. A year later I probably couldn’t have done it because my arthritis had got so much worse. This is what’s happening there this year!

  12. Yeah, Paper Lanterns is a good example. It sounds so energic live compared to the studio version, I love how it sounds especially from Nimrod Era.

  14. Agree, those shows are cool. Knowledge in Electric Factory could be edited though. I like the fact we will get full AI live, plus We are the Champions. On the other hand, I can't deny I feel some dissapointment about CD 2, that's just content from singles and special editions from that era and nothing unreleased.

  15. On this day 7 years ago (24 August 2017), Green Day played Wrigley Field on the Revolution Radio Tour. More photos: 11 years ago (24 August 2013), Green Day played Leeds Festival in England. It was the last show of the 99 Revolutions Tour. Billie played Walk Away and said, "if I died right now, this would be a good way to go out." More photos: @Rumpelstiltskin2000 it's time to tell the Leeds story! 15 years ago (24 August 2009), Green Day played in Sacramento, CA on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. 22. I got to know Greena Day in 2010, 21st CB era. I became a fan upon knowing only Holiday, American Idiot, Know Your Enemy, 21 Guns. I remember listening Holiday on repeat, loved this song so much. Shortly afterward I downloaded GD discography (the whole craziness started). There is not a single AI song that I dont like. The album is just a milestone, an instant classic... But the thing it's not about the songs only. It's a about the game-changing image, fashion - new hairstyle, Billies eyeliner, suit and red tie. AI it's not just an album. it's a perfec multilayered project. No wonder so many people got into it.

  23. I remember hearing WMUWSE at my primary school disco in 2005 at 9 years old. My knowledge of music at that time consisted of music my parents listened to (classical and church music, and occasional Simon & Garfunkel). I remember thinking how magnificent and melodic Green Day sounded and I was really surprised that ‘heavier’ music existed. It wasn’t until late 2007 I got into Green Day properly and became captivated. They spoke to me in a way no other music ever had and all the emotional trauma I had ben dealing with at that time became a little easier because of Green Day. In 2010, I begged my mum to let me paint my bedroom like the Jesus of Suburbia music video and she let me, provided I kept it restricted to my room. It took 2 weeks in the summer holidays and it became my masterpiece. I cut up sponges to carefully create the white rectangles for each letter and cut out stencils (which I still have) out of paper. I couldn’t order spray paint online as I was under 18 so I had to go with my mum to a shop and buy the spray paint. I was meticulous and insisted the colours had to be the perfect red and pure black. My bedroom became somewhere I could hide - a safe haven. It was my own place where I could be myself in a world that didn’t understand. Every night from 2008 - 2011 when I came home from school, I would watch Bullet In A Bible on my tiny pink tv (which we then switched for a silver one when I re-did my room) and dream of seeing or meeting my heroes. I would finish watching it and then restart it so the show wouldn’t have ‘ended’ and then pause it right before Longview. It was a coping ritual and Green Day helped me in ways I don’t think I’ll ever be able to properly explain. They saved my life. I’ve seen Green Day 15 times since then and every time is different. I’ve had the opportunity to met Billie Joe and Mike twice and Tre three times; I got to talk and joke with them and now their autographs are complete on my arm. Seeing American Idiot in full on the Saviors tour was like a religious experience; AI was on repeat when I first got into them (so much so that the CD is super scratched now) and hearing all the songs live was such a beautiful and cathartic experience. My life has changed so much since then, and Green Day helped me through it. I didn’t think I would live this long and I’m here. I’m still breathing. ~ Maria, 29, Wiltshire, UK. 30. I recently listened to Saviors from top to bottom and I still love it six months later. Some songs I've cooled on like Father to a Son, but overall the album is still fantastic and is their strongest work in a while. Glad that the album still resonates months after its release.
