Hey....so guess who's going to see the boys tomorrow? I really needed some good news. Things are hard, my bf was laid off from his job and I'm stuck at mine for a bit, so I figured I could easily sacrifice other shows I was thinking about going to this year and see Green Day instead. And hey, not a bad section either. I was really hoping I would win tickets or get invited, but the stars didn't align. So at least for a night I'll be able to forget about my troubles.10 points

If they wanted to release it they would. There's a reason they haven't.7 points

Don’t forget about us, the fans! We know all the words, we know the music even better than the band! We don’t even need teleprompter tech! Hey go listen to the Seville 2020 show! Billie just doesn’t even need to sing his own songs anymore!5 points

Just walked around the park. Lines for merch are crazy long. In seats but a great view and we’re in the shade. My happy place.2 points

Officially on the way to the airport. I should arrive to Wrigley around 1pm! Kevin’s IG story also seems like all is good to go for tonight!2 points

We've probably ended up having lots of it anyway in one way or another. Scraps of other songs, chord progressions that have become something else. Other than the title track, we don't specifically know what morphed into what. Something on C&V could've ended up becoming Peacemaker for example. Unless they tell is, we don't know.2 points

Every member of Green Day can sing. Just pass the mike between Mike, Tre, Jason, Jason, Kevin and Coley and we're good. Jillie Bow can sit in a big non-singing booth with a cape and crown and watch as they SLAY.2 points

I’m imagining him off in the corner, not allowed to speak so he’s just rapid-fire Instagramming.2 points

I am definitely going to buy it, and will carefully study it as I've studied my book version and standard cd versions over the years. I just feel like these things are not exactly what fans want, or at the very least not what I want. Green Day demos aren't demos, they sound almost exactly the same as the final song. And recorded versions of live songs is just complete garbage to me. I'd rather have the original album plus 6-8 bsides and that's it. I'd happily pay the same price for that versus all this fluffy stuff. But I understand why they aren't releasing a ton of bsides. If it's good enough to let the world hear it, it has potential be a full flerdged song or even a hit single one day - so it's gonna stay locked up until it's either ready, or it becomes part of a cigerettes and valentines type album that wasn't good enough to begin with. Anywho. Ballyhoo.2 points

I do like it! I think it's just the different people are excited about different things. I'm very excited about the second documentary, I am very excited about having American Idiot (just as it was released 20 years ago) again, since I had to part ways with my original copies (yes I bought that album twice after my first copy of the CD got scratched from overuse lol). I am also very excited to see what those unknown songs between Homecoming and Whatsername might be and the possibility of them being part of the AI story arch. I also want to have those pictures and whatever artwork they are including the booklet (really hoping the original artwork is included, for the reason stated above). The rest of it I'm neither hyped nor disappointed by, I'm just indifferent to it because that is a me-thing. For instance, I am not a music nerd (I'm quite the opposite of it, and have zero ear or talent for music, wish I did, but hey that's life), so the demo's are not a selling point for me. I'm glad they are there for the people who love that type of stuff. The live shows, I don't really care. I think the only way I'd be hyped about them releasing footage from a live show would be if it was one the shows I have attended. But I'm happy they are there for people who are really into that. I'm sure there are people here who are the opposite, and don't care too much the documentary or the idea of getting more details about the AI story arch, but are very hyped about the demo's or the live shows. Something for every taste As for C&V... I don't buy the story that it was stolen. If it had been it would have been leaked the minute that AI got huge. So either they were recording some songs, then came up with the idea of AI as a concept album and decided not to use those songs and then they got recycled in future albums, B-sides and side projects, so we have effectively heard anything worth listening to from those sessions. Or they felt very unsatisfied with it, and decided to scrap it altogether, in which case I'm happy to abide by their decision that we don't need to hear those songs because they are not good enough for them. Basically, I think we have heard every thing that was worth releasing from those songs. 🤷♀️2 points

@Rumpelstiltskin2000 we made that pic everyone's profile pic for April Fools Day at the time it came out so I'm sure it's allowed (just full frontal is banned). Can't believe he reposted that2 points

I was just going to say that. Band feels a sudden need to play Bab's Uvula Who? but doesn't remember the lyrics? Don't worry my man, we got you. Hell, the whole band might not remember how to play it, but I assure you they can find a guitarist a bassist and a drummer in the crowd who know it. 😂1 point

Went ahead and got a pit ticket. Hopefully Billie posting about soccer is a good sign that he's okay. @The Grohl there's tickets available on the MLB site now, regular price.1 point

7 years ago yesterday (11 August 2017), Green Day played in Kansas City, MO on the RevRad Tour. More photos: Billie also did an Instagram (or Facebook, I don't remember) live that day. 8 years ago (11 August 2016), Bang Bang was released. It was played for the first time on Virgin Radio UK and I was interviewed on the show That was such an exciting day. 13 years ago (11 August 2011), Green Day played the Tiki Bar in Costa Mesa, CA. More photos: “We went and played 20 songs that no one had ever heard - in a row. And with no plan of a record even coming out. That was terrifying. It reminded me of the times we played in front of crowds that had never heard of us before - nothing was familiar. There was nothing being marketed. It was really exciting and it made me want to throw up with fear at the same time. We were treating ourselves like a new band.” — Billie Joe Armstrong 14 years ago (11 August 2010), Green Day played in Bristow, VA on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. 15 years ago (11 August 2009), Green Day played in St. Louis, MO on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. More photos: 26 years ago (11 August 1998), Green Day played Sziget Festival in Budapest, Hungary on the Nimrod Tour. 30 years ago (11 August 1994), Green Day played Lollapalooza in Charlotte, NC. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On this day 3 years ago, the Pollyanna video was released. I'd never watched it before but it's actually a nice video with some backstage and live footage. 7 years ago (12 August 2017), Green Day played in Omaha, NE on the Revolution Radio Tour. More photos: 8 years ago (12 August 2016), the Bang Bang lyric video was released. 14 years ago (12 August 2010), Green Day played in Hartford, CT on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. I don't seem to have ever had any photos from that show and I thought I'd found some twice, only to realise they were actually from Holmdel... including the ones I used on the GDA Instagram story. Oops. It's been a rough month so far and I'm tired. 15 years ago (12 August 2009), Green Day played in Kansas City, MO on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. More photos: 19 years ago (12 August 2005), Green Day played in Barrie, Canada on the American Idiot Tour. Two of the gifs aren't exactly SFW, so don't open the spoiler if your boss might appear behind you in the next 60 seconds: 26 years ago (12 August 1998), Green Day played in Vienna, Austria on the Nimrod Tour. 30 years ago (12 August 1994), Green Day played Lollapalooza in Atlanta, GA. And 33 years ago (12 August 1991), Green Day played 9410 Church in Grosse Isle, LA.1 point

So apparently the event with the Chicago radio show was postponed because of Billie’s voice. It seems like this tour really took it out of him. Hope he’s fine for the rest of the dates.1 point

I kept going back over bits to listen to it again. It's so damn cute and special to learn all of these tidbits.1 point

Not surprised I’m sure Wrigley is their priority right now but if that has to be rescheduled too it will be. Get well soon Billie!1 point

Green Day was scheduled to perform an intimate show at the Q101 Lounge in Chicago today. Unfortunately, following the postponement of their Hersheypark Stadium concert (now rescheduled for September 2nd) due to Billie Joe’s voice issues, today’s Q101 Lounge performance has also been canceled. 😔 The band has assured that they will reschedule this intimate show as well. They’re not yet certain about tomorrow’s concert at Wrigley Field, but for now, it looks like it’s still happening https://www.instagram.com/p/C-kmYkCtGeg/1 point

I noticed Billie's voice sounds a little strained from the beginning of this, so I am not surprised he lost it after. I really hope he didn't hurt himself. He's been going all out with concerts every other night.1 point

Monthly Spotify update. Looks like Dilemma got a nice bump from the beginning of the American tour. And Good Night Adeline and Suzie Chapstick are still holding their own in comparison to the other songs post track 5. And side note- Basketcase has been averaging over 900,000 listens a day, whereas it's normally around 500-600,000. And Good Riddance has had a nice bump from Deadpool, and is getting around 800,000 a day compared to its usual 300-400,000.1 point

Rats, I thought at first there was video footage of Storytellers and Irving Plaza, would love high quality versions of those shows.1 point

Me either. Last month I limited myself to only videoing key moments. I paid to be there to watch the concert, not watch my phone.1 point

I will never understand people who spend the whole show behind their screens recordings the full shows. But I certainly do appreciate them a lot.1 point

I've been neglecting this thread again so I'll just post the ones I've got photos of from the days I missed. 2 years ago last Monday (29 July 2022), Green Day played the Metro in Chicago on the Hella Mega Tour. 3 years ago (29 July 2021), Green Day played in Houston, TX on the Hella Mega Tour. 15 years ago (29 July 2009), Green Day played in Washington DC on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour, which is a nice coincidence because they played DC again on that day this year. More photos: 33 years ago (29 July 1991), Green Day played in Missoula, MT. "I saw Green Day above the Union Club in 1991, the year the band released 1,039/Smoothed Out Slappy Hours. Those pop-punk songs (an anthology of early tracks) captured a general disregard for adulthood and decorum that I related to, even if they were mostly vapid love songs about checking out cute girls in the library. Green Day wasn’t really edgy so much as they embodied the fun, carefree, middle-finger-flipping attitude I sometimes needed to balance out darker, more serious bands I liked, including the Nation of Ulysses and Fugazi (both of whom also played Missoula around the same time). And at the Green Day show there was a lot of joyful letting loose: sweaty 'slam dancing' and smiling kids ecstatic for a momentary escape." — Missoula Independent --------------------------------------------------------------------------- 30 years ago yesterday (30 July 1994), Green Day played in Allentown, PA on the Dookie Tour (setlist incomplete). 33 years ago yesterday (30 July 1991), Green Day played Inner World Gateway in Billings, MT. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- On this day 2 years ago (31 July 2022), Green Day played Lollapalooza on the Hella Mega Tour. More photos: 3 years ago today (31 July 2021), Green Day played in Jacksonville, FL on the Hella Mega Tour. "Perhaps the highlight of being in the presence of Green Day was Billie Joe Armstrong’s insane ability to control an audience—the same way Freddie Mercury did. Yep, we just went there." — Josh Bradley, CL Tampa Bay 15 years ago (31 July 2009), Green Day played in Nashville, TN on the 21st Century Breakdown Tour. More photos: 23 years ago (31 July 2001), Green Day played in Vancouver, Canada on the Warning Tour. 26 years ago (31 July 1998), Green Day played KNRK Big Stink on the Nimrod Tour. Using Comic Sans MS for a band name on a shirt is so low effort that I'm impressed. 30 years ago (31 July 1994), Green Day played The Sting in New Britain, CT on the Dookie Tour. "When I saw them, it was at a small (now sadly defunct) club in New Britain, CT called The Sting. Between the time we bought the tickets and the show was when they started to blow up at radio and MTV and all that. It was pretty funny, actually, because nobody at my school knew much about them when the tickets went on sale. But when the school year was coming to an end and the show was approaching, people were complaining that it was sold out. Me and my buddy that I went with loved that. All the trendy kids had to stay home." — schlitsz And there's the monthly roundup on GDA. https://www.greendayauthority.com/news/6173/1 point
