  1. I briefly met Billie before a Longshot show and he was super nice and funny 🄰. Asked him for a picture and my hands were shaking a lot but he was very patient and kept smiling until I could take it.

  2. Pre-ordered mine! Very excited to have this, mainly because this album is very near and dear to me. HOWEVER 1. I wish they had included the original footage that Heart Like a Hand Grenade was made from before John Roecker turned it into some senseless pretentious art project. I waited for this for years, to get an insight into the recording of American Idiot and laying down the basic tracks, etc. only to be super disappointed with the film we got. And now we're getting the same thing again, while we know much more footage was shot at the studio rehearsal space and the control room. This was a great chance to make a documentary of it. 2. All the audio and video material on this release, except for the demos and the 20th anniversary documentary, are thing we had before, especially if you were around on this forums in 04/05 and we were getting pretty much everything they were doing. There was nothing "in the vault"? For some reason I always thought they soundboard recorded most shows on that tour. This point maybe be unfair because this release could be targeting a more current audience that didn't live through this era. 3. The Holiday/BOBD track they released is most definitely not a demo, it sounds like the songs before the final mixing stage, I wouldn't even call them rough mixes, I could be wrong about the instruments but the vocals are exactly the ones we got on the original album, not different take. Still excited on the merit of the artwork and my long-term attachment to this album.

  3. off-topic but i don't really get why some people don't understand why there's still demand for cigarettes & valentines. sure, very well we (maybe) heard most of the songs from that album reworked on other records but, the big reason for me is that i want to hear these tracks/demos/whatever (if they exist) in their original form. give them to me like they're coming straight out of 2002/2003. would be cool, maybe for the warning anniversary, maybe as a standalone, maybe in another dookade.

  4. I’m hoping the new documentary will have a lot of that footage cuz yeah I didn’t like the ā€œart projectā€ aspect of HLAHG either, this was NOT the movie to do that to. Regarding Holiday/BOBD, it most definitely IS a demo. Just a very fleshed out and fully realized one. It goes to show just how much work was put into the album, even the demos.

  5. Hi everyone, I have started a petition to get Green Day to officially release Cigarettes and Valentines. Petitions CAN lead to change. Many of us held out hope that we'd get the remaining unreleased C&V material on the AI 20th anniversary release, but it's not happening. IMO it was a major missed opportunity. If you want it to be released, if you are good either way, if you could care less, even if you don't think it will make a difference or doubt the material actually exists, just please just do me a favor and read it and sign it. We have to start somewhere. Why not right here, right now? https://www.change.org/p/green-day-officially-release-cigarettes-and-valentines Thank you!

  6. Yeah exactly. Or they’re overwhelmed and come off really strong and threatening. I had a less than warm interaction once with Lars from Rancid but I’ve been a fan for years and know that Lars is really direct and just not much of a warm person. It was written communication by text as well. He wasn’t rude at all but he’s just short. It was an unrelated topic, he was selling something I was interested in and then I happened to throw in btw Im kind of a massive fan and just told him my story with Rancid. He said ā€œmuch respectā€ with a fist bump emoji. I think a lot of people would be disappointed in that but it wasn’t a bad thing.

  7. If I ran into them in public I’d try to keep my reaction discreet for their sake and just quickly say thanks for the inspiration. Might quickly tell them about the first time I connected with their music and why it had such an impact for me. If I could squeak in a pic quickly with their permission that’s a bonus and be off on my way. I’ve met a lot of hockey players and usually you can tell if they can or are willing to connect beyond that. With that I give a huge shoutout to Marc Andre Fleury who took around 3-5 mins to chat with me. Extremely nice guy who was genuinely interested in hearing my story about when I first saw him play during the WJC. I feel like Billie Joe is really similar in that regard. Even if he was rushed I wouldnt be disappointed, my job is hectic and I may only get 3-5 seconds to interact with people at times. To add, about 6 years ago I connected with Branden from Rancid. We never met in person but we’d interact quite a bit through some messaging and online in general. He was also extremely friendly and we both connected over being massive Green Day fans. He showed me the LPJ Billie Joe gifted him on the Rev Rad tour.

  9. I completely agree! Too many people start these weird parasocial relationships with celebrities and start to think of them as their friends or something. But they are just people like the rest of us, and they don't deserve to be imposed on when they are just doing normal people stuff. They have a right to some privacy just like we all do. Also, I have fantasized about Billie since I was 13 (when AI came out) and I still am LOL, so nothing crass about that.

  11. I dont understand why they canā€˜t release a full show except for the 30th Dookie Set (at least the audio) Bullet in a Bible was nice, but it wasnā€˜t complete and the Interviews between the songs are annoying, they shouldā€˜ve put them at the end of the concert or as a bonus. Same for Awesome as fuck, never understood why they didnā€˜t show the full thing on DVD/Blu-Ray and the 21st Shows were even better than AI shows in my opinion. Now weā€˜re getting a new box Set and still no full show on DVD or Audio (I donā€˜t count the short TV performances)

  13. I think the reason Irving Plaza has some songs cut short is to fit in a Double LP, otherwise they would need a third disc. Another thing, I just got VH1 Storytellers blocked on youtube, maybe they are thinking on release it someway

  14. Ah, found the other moment of when he was mentioning locations. Starts at the 1:42 mark. In terms of pyro, there was the fire and maybe some of the loud firing, as well as the streamers for St Jimmy. No confetti for NY or Philly. Aside from that, just the fireworks at the end of the show

  18. Me too! Boulevard of Broken Dreams was the first Green Day song I ever heard, right when it came out (I was 13). I had never heard of Green Day before that, but after hearing that song, I wanted to hear everything they ever made--and now here I am 20 years later LOL. It's such a beautiful song, and it spoke to me in a way nothing else had before. So it will always be my favorite just because of that.

  19. I feel like when you’re a huge fan of an artist, it always feels weird to say one of your favorite songs is among their biggest hits, but I get so excited to this day every time I hear the beginning of Boulevard of Broken Dreams. At my concert the other night, I was only planning to record Are We the Waiting, Whatsername, and Good Riddance, but halfway through Boulevard I was like ā€œI NEED to capture thisā€ because it’s just such a magical song.

  21. I'll be curious to see the credits of these demos. I agree with others that the quality is too good to be demo recordings, but they are definitely not rough mixes of the original songs either. Some of the vocal melodies/lyric pronunciation is slightly different, and I noticed on Holiday there was a different drum part that was not on the original. I think these may actually be different "takes" from the album sessions and were given rough mixes. Or perhaps these were serious takes recorded at Studio 880/Jingletown and were re-done when they went to Ocean Way. Again, I'll need to see what the actual credits say.

  22. I completely agree. I would love a high quality video of a whole show. I don’t care if the whole thing isn’t perfect. It would help me through the droughts between albums/tours and would not stop me going to see them live. There must be many fans who’ll will never be able to and see them who would want a live show.

  25. OK, the phrase "uncontrolled setting" is killing me because it makes them sounds like some sort of zoo animals that need to have professional handlers so you can interact with them safely. 🤣 Having said that though, I completely agree with you. I would actually feel super nervous and self-conscious in meeting them, especially randomly. I honestly don't feel the need to interact with them. I am perfectly content to love them and their work from a safe distance LOL.

  29. That's an interesting theory. If it's true, I hope it's wildly different since there aren't too many song we haven't heard before. Worst case scenario is that we've heard them all in some form or another and then Dude-case scenario - everything is totally new and fresh, haha. St Jimmy Opera, Homecoming (nobody likes you), What's Her Name - totally different songs that what we think, lol. I'm personally excited about We Are the Champions being on an official release. That was an epic part of the Idiot era and I wish it had continued. I'm also excited about the packaging. This just might be the best album release of all time, space and coffee.

"especially if you were around on this forums in 04/05" nah man meanwhile i was being conceived/born šŸ’€šŸ’€šŸ’€ but yeah i am hoping the other demos we get are interesting in some form, because you are quite right they do seem like rough mixes (which i still like regardless) and i do wish for more new unheard stuff because yeah a lot of the stuff there isnt really "new". again theyre probably saving it for another release mayhaps which i hope to get to hear in my lifetime

  36. @Psycho Britney I think it’s the sideburns that are starting to get a bit out of control. Idk how his hair grew so much from their GMA performance but it looks wildly longer to me lmao. But I’ve never seen wet hair Billie in person before and wowza, so everything worked out perfectly.
