The sad thing is when I googled Green Day and Smashing Pumpkins the only thing that came up the other way was Billy Corgan giving them a lot of praise in the 00s. Hopefully the band doesn't know lol. But I guess they were a lot younger then and they're all old enough to know that opinions and attitudes change.5 points

I'm still waiting for an interviewer to ask them about Saviors starting life as 1972.5 points

I know! I giggled when it said Smashing Pumpkins were supporting because they used to talk tons of shit about them in the 90s lmao. I recently listened to a folder of random old audio interviews I found and they made negative comments about them in three different ones including one with Ben Weasel where he and GD agreed on them as a band to be eliminated from existence. They thought they were boring and pretentious. But to be fair they did used to talk shit about virtually every band out there that wasn't a small/unknown one from 1990s to early 2000s. Edit: Nice discussion from a 1996 interview where they praise the music but instead talk shit about them as people This interview also contains this gem from Billie on the subject of GD not being grunge/shoegazers (not about Pumpkins but hilarious) Half the interview is them shit talking various acts lol https://punkrocker.org.uk/punkinterviews/greenday.html5 points

Shame about Billie! But the other two would work well on either end of a shelf/display as a pair. The one time I bought an album bundle was to get those candles and once I had them I just had to make a Green Day shrine . They're my favourite piece of GD merch I never spent a lot on merch just got all albums on CD and bought or (more often) got gifted some random things over the years5 points

Hopefully Billie's feeling about the Smashing Pumpkins have changed since the Insomniac days. In the book Nobody Likes You, Billie got angry about the reception of the album, and talked a lot of smack about the Pumpkins. "Glorified Arena rockers, full of pomp but hollow inside" dang.3 points

Question is, is any journalist going to do their homework and call them out on it when they interview them for the tour? 😄 I remember when Billie got called out on Andy Cohen’s show for things he said about Bon Jovi and he admitted he used to be a dick 😂2 points

I don't know exactly what it is, but something about this song sounds like it could belong on the Warning album. Especially the first verse1 point

Super lucky to be the recipient of the first one! Thank you @Montclare Green Day and penguins, two of my absolute favourite things in the world. You are so clever and skilled to make these 👏👏👏😘1 point

Maybe wait a couple years from now to make this thread? Saviors just came out about three months ago, lol. 😄 Just for the thought, I would say the next album might be more about technology/social media and maybe some politics. Definitely anxiety. If you don't become a mod by 2027, I will protest 😄.1 point

Are people already sick of Saviors? I feel like GDFan spends more time speculating about the next album than listening to the current album. He's gonna speculate and speculate until the next album comes out, listen to it twice and then speculate about album 16 until that album comes out1 point

Some pics that recently emerged from the very long queue on the GDA Tumblr (Kesselhaus, Berlin, 7 May 2009) (Longshot tour) (Also Longshot tour) (Paris, France, 26 August 2012) (Brooklyn, NY, 7 April 2013) (San Francisco, CA, 1 November 2011) (Kerrang, 2012) (Recording the trilogy) (Chula Vista, 2010) (Osaka, Japan, 19 August 2012)1 point

I just played my Saviors record for the first time tonight. I have the hot pink and black one and it sounds really good. I started it on Suzie Chapstick and then flipped it over and listened to side A. Because who needs a Corvette Summer or a Coma City? Haha. No, I like those. I just didn't wanna hear them tonight. The order I listened had a good flow.1 point

I think Blood Rage was also before Sweet Children. IIRC, Billie (and possibly the rest of the old lineup) was in a metal cover band but I forgot the name. Desecrated Youth played a live show at Raj Punjabi's backyard. One song known to be played is called Merciful Children. October 1987, Sweet Children played their first show at Rod's Hickory Pit and played "La bamba" (KROQ 2019 interview with Green Day) with Mike singing. There were also some original songs (George Cole interview with greenday.fm) which I believe might be 1,000 Hours, Dry Ice and Best Thing in Town. Why Do You Want Him could've been played too, Billie wrote it years before Sweet Children (there are disputes over if it was when he was 12 or 14, I'm on Team 14). No known shows in 1988 until October. October 16 1988 was a show played at Robert Eggplant's backyard and Raj was pissed off at something. He left his drumkit at the party. Hehe! John Kiffmeyer was going to hang out with the Lookouts with fellow Isocracy member Jason Beebout, but he saw that Sweet Children needed a drummer so he volunteered. Jason said that Kiffmeyer joining another band broke up Isocracy. According to greendaylive.fm, Sean didn't perform at any GD shows as Sweet Children. AFAIK, he still got to get in touch with the guys and attended some of their shows! Kiffmeyer also attended a GD show after leaving the band, apparently it was Dreamforce 2013.1 point

I actually got all three candles for free from a random fan on Tumblr!! Sadly, they didn't pack it well so Billie broke I spent hours putting it together....and then it fell apart while moving 😠1 point

I used to collect a lot too up until around 2010/2011 and did spend over the odds on some of the stuff I bought back then. I just can't afford it these days though and honestly I don't have anywhere to put it. Even If I did have a little bit of money I'd rather spend it going to a show but the prices for that have gone up astronomically too1 point

Love this one Green Day posted on their Instagram story. It's so good This is pretty cool too1 point
