Thanks to Arica Pelino for her footage and Shayne Stacy for digitizing this classic material. See the caption in the video for more info. This is just a teaser. Arica gave Shayne hours and hours of videotapes of East Bay bands including lots of never before seen Green Day material from her personal collection. With permission she is now sharing her stuff with fans for the first time! I’m starting this thread and will add to it as more stuff gets uploaded. In the meantime enjoy this small backstage clip from the Phoenix Theatre in 1991 and subscribe to Shayne’s channel.13 points

Ah, legendary Not So Silent Night 2011 performance where they were last minute substitute and had to perform as 3-piece. Great show with funny improvisations everywhere (American Idiot solo) and also last time Billie played guitar during Jaded IIRC. Anyways, man was 39 during that night and off from tour. He is 52 now and about to hit the road once again with the most demanding setlist they've done in years. Getting older sucks, but I am so ridiculously happy to see them still perform after all these years. Sure, they might not jump around like they used to and some songs are slowed down and Billie can't hit some notes as effortlessly as he did 15 years ago, but that's just life. Man can still sing, play guitar and pull off awesome show. I wont take that for granted. Billie's vocals peak was definitely in 2009-2011 period. I've seen some recent comments of how Billie's 2004 vocals were better, but I disagree with that. Just listen beginning of this video. Man could sing and he did it so well.8 points

Hoarding is a strong word. She’s not a collector, these are her personal memories. It’s really generous of her to want to share everything now, she by no means had to. It’s been in storage for years and took a long time to go through and digitize.8 points

Ok, I knew the song 1981 was about just letting loose like it’s 1981 and I can think of a million reasons why 1981 would be awesome for everyone but then thought of Billie and/or Green Day specifically. If this has been said already I apologize. No time to read all threads now a days. I can think of several but politically 1981 was the year before Reaganism. Personally to him, it was the end of his actual youth as his father died, probably along with a big part of him in September of 1982 (making 1981 his last care free year at the young age of 10.) He also met Mike the following year in 1982 and 1981, August 1st was also the year that MTV launched, eventually a foreshadow to their massive fame which Billie seems to enjoy). Just some random thoughts today. “She’s gonna bang her head like it’s 1981”. Get it. BTW, this was the first song MTV aired on that day. Very appropriate. And made in 1979…7 points

I love the way he sings 21 Guns on AAF, it’s their song, he can sing it how he wants.5 points
-
She has audio recordings too, including an early test pressing of Kerplunk and possibly some versions of the songs recorded on the first day that didn’t make the album, including Christie Road with the original lyrics (they re-recorded everything the second day)5 points
-
I'm glad she found someone trustworthy to share and digitalize her tapes. We are on a treat people. Maybe, just maybe, there is a No One Knows performance among those5 points
-
It’s not just live footage as well that’ll be shared, there’s some Kerplunk related things that will also see the light of day5 points

Some of the pics There are more pics in the article in the above tweet5 points

Saviors doesn’t feel like a good opener to me, at least on the record. TADIKM fits better and introduces the themes of the record well. It’s also a better song imo.5 points

New interview with Ryan Baxley on the album art and videos: https://www.wired.cz/clanky/the-american-dream-is-killing-me-interview-with-director-ryan-baxley?fbclid=PAAaaTPBVigUomYaGnMnSl3Oxajn5A-LuZ6LqYSK21szkrsf2AYQjjT1Dtg30_aem_AWU3QjkvwEyMOjEtUo3t1uak_QO209GobwS30tTPCAgZp1HzQAWE0NpBxnV6KjCymjI Good read and I particularly liked this insight: “Each video also serves as a way to represent different aspects of the band. “American Dream” is their more artistic, conceptual side. “Look Ma!” shows them as performers and proper rock stars. On the other side, “Dilemma” is their personal, honest side, and “Bobby Sox” finally shows their love for playing music and their love for their fans. So as a whole, you get a broad picture of who the band is at this time in their lives.”4 points

Lil Billie smiling in that big chair and "Fancy Sausage" on the setlist make this an iconic photo3 points

I was definitely wincing at parts of the new songs, but thought he sounded fine for the older ones. I'm hoping it's just a matter of him getting used to doing them live.3 points

The big question is what will they do for the next 10 year anniversary for the smash hit “Saviors”. 10 year Saviors Anniversary. 30 year Ai. 40 year Dookie. its gonna be rocking at the AARP. Seriously, that that is even a slight possibility in numbers is fucking amazing!3 points

Billie always struggled with higher notes, eg with certain 21st CB songs (that album was the first where he pushed himself to sing higher more and to do some falsetto). It's just the upper limit of his vocal range. I don't think he could ever sing very much higher, and I don't think there's anything as high as Goodnight Adeline on their older albums unless it's just the occasional odd high note. He doesn't have a very big vocal range and has always tended to mostly sing comfortably in the middle of it while only occasionally pushing towards to upper or lower limit.3 points

This is so exciting!!!! This will be really cool to see, especially as we get into discussing Kerplunk on Green Dudes soon.3 points

she had many second thoghts over the years on releasing this stuff, we should be forever thankful to her for for finally letting all of her stuff see the light of day. I am completely hyped for everything to come3 points
-
Coma City video please and Father To a Son Suzie Chapsticks would make an interesting concept too3 points
-
It’s so cool to see them out of their comfort zones performing so many songs that aren’t fully ingrained in their muscle memory yet! Mistakes and all! Mike particularly looked like he was having fun playing the new stuff. Looked like a great show and I’m hyped for the tour! I wouldn’t mind a club show in Chicago either 👀.3 points

I put the full UltraQ set video in the Jakob Danger thread if anyone is interested2 points
-
I think it's fine, it's just a particularly high song by Green Day standards. I think it's cool that they'll go ahead and record a song that goes that high for the album even if they know it might not be easy to recreate live rather than limiting the song on the album. It sounds great that way really going to the limit of Billie's vocal range instead of just staying in safer range. The same was said about his slightly dodgy live falsetto with 21st CB but that was also worth it to have it on the album.2 points
-
Was it only this song that happened? I did notice that too but thought maybe it was a pre-recorded live video for some special on tv? I think his peak was around 2009-2010 for live shows. You can tune a guitar but cant always tune a voice. This album dropped when I got 2 viruses consecutively. One covid, one was some other crazy virus. I had no singing voice for 2 months. While I can sing now, I still cant do what I could do in 2023. But I’m not touring the world. Now imagine if I was. That’s a great pressure to have. Atleast GD has a rich history of hits. The setlist could be shuffled to accommodate.2 points

Best news in a while! This stuff needs to be preserved and released to all. Why let it all sit in a box or hard drive somewhere just to hoard it?2 points

Loving all the videos, what an amazing show! My singing range is very similar to Billie's so I totally understand with Goodbye Adeline lol. I think it's cool that he will push his voice to its upper limit in the studio even if he can't quite reach it live.2 points

Will Green Day ever go back and play old songs they've never played live before? Could that happen on the Saviors tour? That would be a cool feature - Dookie, Idiot, Saviors, Hits, and at each show, one song that's never been played live before.1 point

that static age part is a walk in the park for Billie of 2010. He did always sing that part, well in rare instances when he didnt is because he just wanted to hear the audience to sing along.1 point

I feel like Billie has talked enough about his enthusiasm for non-alcoholic beverages (and his more recent journey to realizing that’s what he needs to stick with) at this point for me to assume whatever he’s drinking is NA. I am not a naturally chill person about such matters (or about anything tbh ) but this is my attempt at calm and not worrying unless I have a reason to, which I think is appropriate. NA drinks seem like a great solution for people who are sober but are often in drink-heavy settings and want to participate in a way that’s not dangerous to them. But yeah that’s not even a NA beer, just fancy water. I want to try it because I’m fascinated by how cool the packaging has made drinking water lol.1 point

Yeah I mean, they're Green Day, so I really do believe they're big enough to have final say in their tracklisting. It's just a shame that the streaming game being what it is could prevent having a perfect opener like Somewhere Now on an album again. As it stands though, I do really like American Dream as the opener, and think it probably is a better one than the title track. Just interesting they chose to change the order live.1 point

I'm wondering if they're making a video or something of Father to A Son, notice how the cameraguy is up in their faces during the entire song 👀1 point
-
For the album shows yes. I will look forward to the festivals setlist hoping that they'll play deep cuts from AI and Dookie1 point
-
Pretty sure they won't be playing it anyway with doing all of Dookie and AI1 point

I'd take out King For A Day anytime to hear a new song or a deep cuts1 point

Billie can fill in on kazoo . But hopefully he'll be back for the tour in the summer anyway Edit: Oh I see this is new info. The first post about it said he'd be back in the summer. Well in any case I hope he's well soon!1 point

I hope so! That would really put the Saviors in Saviors tour!1 point

The thing is that it was recorded several times but as production goes on it always end up back in pool. It was demoed in Dookie days. Cavallo liked it but it didn't have a space into the record. Tried again in Nimrod, they went for Good Riddance, probably they tried it for Warning but they chose Macy's Day Parade. The song easily have like 5 versions floating around in their archives. Probably it happened to a lot of songs. Is not easy1 point
-
I'm sorry but no. Lyrically nothing compares to 21CB. You can hear the blood, sweat and tears they put in it in every single line.1 point

Right? People talk about Good Riddance waiting around for the right release but this song has to win the award for the longest wait and most number of false starts - 1992-20101 point
