I agree with this. Stopping promotion after album releases seem to be the norm these days. I remember Creeper went so hard to promote their second album. Music videos, live streams, even fan events. When their third album arrived last year they didn't even promote it half as much and when the album dropped everything went quiet aside from show announcements. It also seems to fit how we talk about media these days. In 2 weeks we're already on to the next thing. We're past the days where a single album or game or movie would captivate an audience for months or maybe the whole year in the mainstream. And I think it's sad. I miss the days of wild promotion. Of course I don't want it to affect artists so if the slow down is better for the band's health then I understand that. still a late night appearance from Green Day would've been nice 👀5 points

Billie's trying to trick us! 😮 On another note I really like all the family photos he's sharing along with the stories. They're very sweet.5 points

I mean they were for a while but they basically completely stopped once the album released. The trilogy was the last time they went all out for it and it was only after iHeart that everything stopped. Everything's been overshadowed by the AI/Dookie anniversaries. In interviews, they hardly talked about Saviors at all, it was mostly about Dookie/AI and the band's history, and I understand why that was a big part of the promotion but I wish they actually talked about the new music I don't really have a problem with how they promoted this time around, I just wish they didn't go from very actively promoting to radio silence.4 points

I wonder if we'll get any pro photos or anything like that tonight?3 points

They always used to use the phrase "maximum Green Day" to describe how they decided they wanted to really push themselves as a band to make American Idiot, I love that they still use it3 points

For a tour titled the Saviors Tour it disappoints that AI and Dookie being played in full is all that’s talked about….before AI Insomniac was their biggest selling album..now it’s forgotten same with nimrod and warning even 21st Century Breakdown won a Grammy and had their best opening week performance as it went #1 in 16 or so countries….for the band saying how good they think Saviors is they don’t show it….Dilemma could be a huge single but its just getting no push. I don’t understand the lack of publicity for an album they are so proud of and that’s so good. It makes no sense. This album could be bigger and us die hards know aside from Dookie and AI they have great songs and albums makes no sense3 points

One thing that I liked about the RevRad promotion were the lyric videos. I wish that continued. Sugar Youth got one but that was it for lyric videos after RevRad3 points

I don't have Hulu either. Maybe there's someone else on the forum will capture it? I wonder how big a role Billie will have as a special guest? Suppose we'll have to wait and see2 points

Mike's posted some pics on his Instagram story for his wedding anniversary. Couldn't catch them all it was going too fast but here's just some of them https://www.instagram.com/stories/mikedirnt/3323672820360111692?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&igsh=dnlieHo3NmQ0Mnpr2 points

It’s eye watering lay expensive to get in the UK, shipping cost the same as the bundle I bought last year. Hoping they will expand into Europe.2 points

I have family members who are really into genealogy as a hobby, so I find it quite endearing that he’s so into it and is willing to share it. I remember him saying in one of the podcasts he did that he’s interested in it because it’s a way for him to learn more about his dad, and that’s really sweet. In all seriousness, he should go on one of those shows that helps celebrities track down their family history. Those shows are really cool, and he clearly has a passion for it.2 points

It's hard to tell whether Insomniac or Nimrod is the better seller. They've both been neck and neck for decades and we don't have a recent sales update for either album. Nimrod is the better performing album overall in terms of streaming and digital, mostly because of the success of Good Riddance though, so really Nimrod is the more successful album imo I think the top 5 most successful Green Day albums are probably - American Idiot - Dookie - Nimrod - 21st Century Breakdown - Insomniac AI and Dookie could be swapped around, as could 21CB and Insomniac but I'm pretty sure those are the 5 most successful albums, based on album sales, streaming, singles etc.2 points

The other big change is the way concerts are. They used to be a mix of big hits, new songs and fan favorites but now it's all anniversary tours. I just saw that Weezer are doing a big 30th of the Blue Album. Which is kind of cool, but to me it's just another way we'll never get to hear something really special or unique at a rock show. The blue album is kind of like Dookie. Weezer has played most of those songs at every single shows for 30 years. They'll probably play a few other big hits. But definitely won't be able to cover all 15 albums and 4 EPs. lol. The difference is that Weezer seem have halted putting out a new album in order to do this tour, which is better than Green Day trying to cram three things into one tour.2 points

Having a blast is underrated. I always thought it was about a school shooter. Every time I listen to it I wonder if they could get away with that song now.2 points
-
Maybe they can't generate so much attention anymore for a new album because 20 years ago they played 200 shows a year to promote a new album? I'm not saying they should do that again (they're not 20-30 anymore) but maybe it does have an impact 🧐2 points

They probably will do a 30th Anniversary for Insomniac next year. I actually think they did a good job with promotion for the album. The debut of 1981 in August, The American Dream is Killing Me in October, Look Ma, No Brains in November, Dilemma in December, and One Eyed bastard in January. Not to mention all of the listening parties, New Years Rockin Eve, ect. Dilemma was the only thing they posted about for 2 weeks when it came out. I do agree that no one really pushes or talks about it anymore. I feel they promoted it pretty well overall.2 points

I change my mind. Whatsername should be in the encore, haha. I relate to that song deeply. It broke my heart when I saw a video of him crying to it 💔. Thanks for the Brutal Love video!2 points

Hahaha Billie that tease! I'm team black but the blonde was growing on me.2 points

I would love to hear Brutal Love in the encore again. ❤️. I feel like that is a really great song to end a show with. Since they are playing AI and Dookie in their entirety, is Tre going to play All By Myself.😃. I can not wait.2 points

Yeah, Trilogy era was INSANE until iHeart. There was going to be nine singles (Oh Love, Kill the DJ, Let Yourself Go, Stray Heart, Amy, Stop When the Red Lights Flash, X-Kid, 8th Avenue Serenade and 99 Revolutions - all with music videos. And Green Day were performing all over.... But now we've living in the 20s, lol. It'll always be a bummer that Trilogy, Rev Rad and FOAM seem like they didn't get enough promotion. Saviors had the listening party, which was a really special thing. Maybe they did that because they had a feeling there wasn't enough other stuff going on. I dunno. But so far Saviors is the still the best album of 2024. Somebody's got to try and beat it.2 points

I'm keep checking he hasn't posted anything else or any new colour just in case2 points

He’s just messing with us?! Or just used an old pic rather than take new one?!2 points

Wait, that’s an old picture? He’s fucking with me on purpose then. I am exceedingly attached to the blonde, the shade he has now is just right. I know back to black is inevitable, but ugh. More time with the blonde pls.2 points

I'm pretty sure it's an old photo from when he dyed it red previously I suppose he could be recolouring or bleaching? It's definitely an old photo, just checked. This was the result2 points

Billie just posted a picture of himself on Insta stories in foils and I swear to god if he gets rid of the blonde I will go into a period of mourning.2 points

It absolutely says "80" and "1994" on it! So now I wonder if Adrianne's says "BJ" and "1994"2 points

The trilogy seems like the last time the band really went hard on the promotion (before iHeart happened). No matter your opinion on that group of albums or whether the promotion was good, the band really seemed to be excited about it and making an effort to promote it. I think maybe they (or Billie specifically) might be sort of afraid of going too hard on promoting new albums. Because what if they do and the album is received poorly like the trilogy was. Which is why the last few albums have either been lacking in promotion or have been overshadowed by a Greatest Hits tour, and album anniversaries2 points
-
Feels like that's kind of... it for this album? It seems to have disappeared from the charts. Promotion has dried up. Suppose that's the way it is nowadays especially for a legacy artist like Green Day.2 points

Haven't listen to any of the songs in this album in a while... Maybe one month non-stop was enough. I know I will come back to it but right now I need other songs.1 point

I meant before AI Insomniac was their 2nd biggest selling album Dookie being #1. After AI Insomniac still remains their 3rd biggest selling album.1 point

Even though it’s an old photo he’s appearing at the GLAAD Awards tomorrow so maybe this is just a way to say he’s giving himself a touchup for the event1 point

If they're playing Dookie in it's entirety it should mean Tre performing All by Myself. Can't imagine Brutal Love will be added to the setlist but I agree it would be amazing if it was1 point

You know, I'm surprised Green Day didn't show up to the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards to perform, be interviewed, etc. Sure, we got the Stockholm performance at the show, but consider - Green Day was the third most nominated act in the night with 8 nominations - They had two songs very high up in the Top 40 from Dookie at the time - They were pushing Insomniac - And had a decently successful new single in Geek Stink Breath1 point
-
I think the theory behind them making another FOAMF type album is that Green Day projects alternate between that experimental/power pop/garage rock sound (Foxboro, trilogy, FOAMF) and the more American Idiot-esque sound. Although I don't really consider FOAMF to be all that comparable to the trilogy. I can see them continuing to make garage type stuff but if they do, I think it will be more like the trilogy or Longshot than FOAMF1 point

Which is nonsense for an album this good. The fact that they aren’t promoting Dilemma will never make sense to me1 point
