I think a lot of the initial backlash against FOAM stemmed from: 1. It being the only new music we received for what we knew would be at least 3 to 4 years. 2. The perception that this was the new direction the band was taking. Particularly after RevRad, the shift felt misplaced. Now that we have Saviors, which kind of continues what RevRad was going for, FOAM loses all that bad baggage. It's no longer viewed as the only new material we have, nor does it define the band's sound going forward. And when you consider it as just a collection of 10 songs, it's evident that it wasn't as bad as people initially made it out to be. Now that the dust has settled, I believe fans should give FOAM another chance and appreciate it for what it is: a pretty fun, harmless record.5 points

Agree! I think because we all still have things we hope to do however old we are when we die it's as if we die young4 points
-
I'm thinking the line "we all die young some day" is like everybody, no matter who they are, rich or poor, famous or not, grows up with hopes and dreams but as we get older realise that some of those hopes and dreams will never come to fruition and a little bit of us dies with each or any of them over time Would be interesting to hear other people's thoughts on that4 points

Wow cool, that was unexpected. Hopefully more fans from outside the US or Europe get the chance to see Green Day in 2025.3 points

I agree also with the other takes but when I first heard "We all die young some day" to me it seems like when you are depressed you can't realize your dreams because you're not capable of living in a way you could be. Especially the line, "We all die young and watch it slip away", because when you're depressed you're watching life is going by and even though you want to participate in it, you just can't or do anything about it and it is slipping away. Some of his most very raw sad lyrics to me.3 points

Well that's not really true. Only some of the singles have gone up about 200k streams. The non-single tracks have only gone up 80,000-120,000. And Dilemma also gained around 450k streams, OEB gained close to 300k. TADIKM, LMNB and Bobby Sox are the singles that have gone up around 200k Also, you didn't even include Father to a Son's streams for today.2 points

I'm so addicted to this song, it's hilarious and a total banger!2 points

For UK people, it's currently being used as the music on C4's "New reality on Channel 4" promo campaign. Can't find it online but I've seen it A LOT on air. 30" and 60" promos, so lots of GD.2 points

The shift in response to FOAM is pretty standard with GD releases I find. When the new album drops, there are going to be folks who don't like it and suddenly the album they did before seems better by comparison. We saw it happen with the Trilogy and RevRad, so no surprise it's happening with FOAM. I'm glad to see people being more positive about it. It's not their best in anyway, but it's a fun album that's got some bangers on it. I appreciate the ambition even if they did miss the mark. Plus, the FOAM era itself was fun even if it was weird.2 points

I agree with some of what you say but we didnโt know the world was going to shut down when FOAM was released. I think in the main people were just shocked it was so different.2 points

I think FOAM is good, but it also represents what would happen when you walk away from Rob Cavallo ๐ .2 points

Definitely real drums, just (like everything else on FOAMF) processed to death. The album is still an absolute bin fire.2 points

Really like it definitely best cover of the song on YT that I have heard. What do you use to record and mix down? Also the way you played it was true to the original but also seemed to have a jazz pop voicing to it which seemed very original as well. So bravo! The guitar sounds great and when it comes to acoustics Iโm a psycho about getting the right sound. It took an entire team at the store to find me the exact right acoustic for the sound I have in my head. It was an expensive one and the team was great but they earned their money that day. I would reconsider the mixing of the backing vocals. I find them to be overpowering to the lead but I would keep the same exact track.1 point

I don't know how the drums where treated and recorded by Butch Walker but to me the drums in FOAM sound like they were generated with a drum computer ๐ in Saviors (and all other albums) they sound more human1 point

Don't think this one was posted yet. Billie and Jason with one of the Lovebreakers1 point

That's such a weird lyric to have an issue with. In context of the song, it's clearly talking about promises made by politicans, people in power but the promises being broken and things getting worse. This defense of the rich & powerful is just fucking weird as they promise to make things better and only make things worse1 point
-
I don't think it's that many people making that claim though. But there are definitely more people saying that now than 3-4 years ago Really, any album they release will have at least someone who thinks it's the greatest album of all time, even if most other people think it's a huge piece of crap1 point

Love these making ofs! Also loved seeing Mike playing bass and Tre, Billie, and Rob's reactions there . We need a whole making of the album documentary!1 point

Funnily enough, I listened to one of agreed Dudes podcasts today and they were talking about the Pitchfork review which had been down on Mikeโs bass playing and I remembered reading it when came and thinking โwtfโ as did the Green Dudes and seeing this was just stunning. The bass through the whole record is great.1 point

I like the album cover . Their most iconic cover with silly scribbles and a vomiting rainbow unicorn on it, I don't care that's fucking funny. The fact it's Billie's doing makes it even funnier. Graffitia, Take the Money and Crawl, Stab You in the Heart, Junkies On a High, Fire Ready Aim, Father of All... are top tier songs to me and I don't dislike any of the others. I listen to themb all the time when I'm running. I just wish it had been more songs so it felt more like a full album.1 point

I'm wondering if it's the placement of this song that doesn't work for me?1 point

Iโm listening to SiriusXM with headphones and you can really hear the amazing production of Saviors with this one. 1981 played and it was banging in my ears loud and upfront, then they play Fire, Ready, Aim and even though itโs a banger the sound got much more quiet and samey with no dynamics.1 point
