This is what Billie said about the song in an interview with The Sun (a UK paper) https://www.thesun.co.uk/tvandshowbiz/25414209/green-day-billie-joe-armstrong-saviors/6 points

I think Dilemma hits even harder when I think about that the song was probably written in 2021 but Billie said that he got too much into drinking while Hella Mega Europe in June/Juli 2022 and eventually got sober after the tour. So it seems like he had to live several months with this dilemma š5 points

It's an absolute disgrace how little attention rock music and quality music in general have in mainstream nowadays. It's bizarre and devastating.5 points

Green Day are doing well. So many bands that were huge in 1994 are now broke and playing in divebars for 10 or 20 people who paid 10 bucks to get in and half of them are just there to drink. I mean, it's great for me because I can chat with the band and be front row center, but it's a far cry from what Green Day are doing. I don't think Green Day will ever get to divebar level.4 points

FOAM dropped to 111 for its 2nd week. So honestly not that bad. The way Billboard 200 works for Green Day and similar rock bands is they will chart high on week 1 due to album sales but then fall a long way down due to album sales plummeting and streaming numbers being low4 points

There are imperfections throughout Saviors in the instrumentation. Guitar especially. They just left it in for a more āhumanā sound I imagine, and itās a creative decision. Again without getting boring, everything in 21CB is pretty much millisecond perfect throughout. They probably did lots of takes, and it wouldāve been edited extensively. I imagine this is part of the reason why the band donāt look back on the process that fondly. There is also a lot more production in terms of effects and extra instrumentation in 21CB. For the most part, apart from a couple of songs, Saviors is just layers of guitar, bass and drums.4 points

Remember, Blink leveraged their 'reunion' to spike their current popularity. It stirred nostalgia. In contrast, Green Day has been consistently present, dropping new material fairly regularly. This consistency means their album releases don't create a buzz among non-fans like a grand comeback would. If they had taken a hiatus or disbanded and then staged a reunion tour, I'm pretty sure they'd be huge. We have to come to terms with the fact that the world isn't really into rock n' roll anymore, particularly from veteran bands. Popularity is often for the young artists, largely because it's the youth driving consumption. Green Day has enjoyed their moments of glory with two massive hits and now occupies a comfortable niche. Their enduring fame ensures they'll always retain a substantial following, even if they never recapture the huge successes of the 90s and 2000s. Holding out for a repeat of their past triumphs is setting ourselves up for disappointment. That ship has sailed, it ain't happening again unless there's a massive shift in the music industry somehow. But it's not within their power to make that change.3 points

Greg Schneider (paranoidtrooper) has posted some pics of the guys on Instagram. A lot are repeats but here's some of them https://www.instagram.com/reel/C3AATmyOUHq/?igsh=dmNrMXhsaDdjanp53 points

Sorry, fell in all categories (including out of the top 10 in a couple of the airplay categories). I wasn't going to update this one since it seems to have peaked.3 points

Obviously, I knew it would drop from week one sales, but I was still hoping it could stay in the top 25. Itās just a shame because so much went into the promotion and build up to this album, and the album itself is SO good. I am still streaming it multiple times a day. I just want the songs to be heard cause I think this is Green Dayās best work in a really long time. Weāll see. Keep streaming folks, and hopefully there will be a rebound in the coming weeks. š¤š»3 points

I noticed that too! The Grammys, like other award shows, have been doing a lot of damage control making sure to be more inclusive in their performers, nominees, and presenters, which is great....but they can't spotlight at least one rock category and bring on one rock act to perform? boygenius won a lot of awards last night and that album was so acclaimed, so why not invite them to perform? I think one year Foo Fighters won something and they did it off screen, which is bonkers because Foo Fighters are huge! They're one of the few rock bands the mainstream actually acknowledges and they still wouldn't broadcast it.3 points

The link wonāt work but Serena Williams posted on IG that Billie Joe called her and asked her to introduce them.2 points

Thatās good perspective, thanks. Itās also rare for a band 30 years in to put out one of their better works, so I think thatās part of the disappointment with popularity. Still confused how Blink maintains their popularity.2 points
-
Honestly so sad. Itās a quality album but rock is just that dead and people donāt follow Green Day anymore outside of the big fans.2 points
-
People nowadays dont need good music. They have a very short attention-span and their brains can't handle complicated music and discovering new sounds everytime you listen to a good rock music with headphones.2 points
-
I agree 100%! Remember all the times Green Day swept the Grammys and it was fucking celebrated? Remember when any big rock act was given the attention that shitty, cookie cutter pop gets nowadays? It's been YEARS. It feels like music is heading in a bad direction. I do hope that rock makes a comeback soon. We need that kind of music right now! Rock is so powerful during times that are confusing a scary.2 points

Fancy Sauce now tops my most played songs of 4 weeks, 6 months and all time. What have YOU done for Fancy Sauce lately? January 24th was my record, I listened to it 46 times on that day. Wow. I'm trying to get Goodnight Adeline to overtake 1981, because it's too popular and it's messing with my hipness. lol. I gotta get Strange Days up there with the Fancy Sauce too.2 points

I think we need to be prepared for that because thatās what will happen. They will likely be nominated for Saviors and may win, but it wonāt be on TV2 points

This album is so good that it made me want to listen to GD's entire discography in order. Will be doing so over the next few days before listening to it again, so good.2 points

It's actually a tricky question to answer. I've got a pretty extensive knowledge of music production and mixing, and the answer is basically yes, we peaked a long time ago technically when it comes to how "good" something sounds. Without going into boring technical jargon, there is really a long established set of rules for how something should sound in terms of frequency response and the stereo field which makes it most appealing to the human ear. Obviously the sound changes dramatically with different genres etc and no two mixes are ever alike - and of course music is all subjective - but broadly speaking these rules are adhered to in most modern music. Mixing music and getting it to sound really good is hard and requires a lot of technical knowledge. Green Day deal with the best in the business when it comes to production and post-production, so there's probably an argument to say they've probably just hit a ceiling. The differences technically speaking are objectively imperceptible and it just comes down to subjectivity. 21CB is their most polished production. Some would say overproduced. You clearly just prefer this to the looser style of Saviors.2 points

@The Grohl I saw that they gave out the rock categories before the show started and then had U2 announceā¦a pop category. Itās bizarre to me that they canāt even leave one space for rock in the main broadcast. I donāt see how rock is ever going to make a mainstream comeback when the Grammys are pulling shit like this ā with genuinely popular artists like boygenius and Paramore! If Green Day is nominated in 2025 they better not give them an award off-screen.2 points

These reminded me of the Grammys 2009. God, I can't believe it's been 15 fuckin years since that.. I remember it like it was yesterday, all the excitement of them finally announcing 21st Century Breakdown. For comparison: 2009 20242 points

Actually I think it's really only the "veteran bands" who are getting any kind of success in terms of rock music. Saviors may not be doing as well commerically as we hoped it would, but it, along with recent albums/singles from Paramore, Fall Out Boy, Blink, Foo Fighters, Metallica, MCR etc. are really the only ones that are doing anything in terms of streaming, sales, charting positions. The only exception I can think of is Machine Gun Kelly but he's dreadful imo. And not just in terms of the music1 point

My tracklist for the EP is: 1. TADIKM 2. One Eyed Bastard 3. Saviors 4. Corvette Summer 5. Damn Juvenile Delinquents 6. Fever It'd be the FOAM leftovers The 14th would've been called Strange Days and considered punk rock and pop-punk, maybe power pop as well: 1. Dilemma 2. Look Ma No Brains 3. Bobby Sox 4. 1981 5. Good Night Adeline 6. Coma City 7. Fritz 8. See You Again 9. Strange Days 10. Living in the 20s 11. Father to a Son 12. We All Die Young1 point

I really wish all of their promotion didn't involve AI/Dookie when it comes to the album. We saw with Fallon that the televised portion of their bit was Basket Case, which was disappointing. When they do events, they are only playing old hits. They haven't even done any major talk shows (minus Stern). Instagram posts can only go so far. We saw with the Grammys that just performing in front of an audience can bump streaming numbers. Obviously the guys can't get a MASSIVE stage like that right now, but anything is better than nothing.1 point
