These reminded me of the Grammys 2009. God, I can't believe it's been 15 fuckin years since that.. I remember it like it was yesterday, all the excitement of them finally announcing 21st Century Breakdown. For comparison: 2009 202411 points

This album is so good that it made me want to listen to GD's entire discography in order. Will be doing so over the next few days before listening to it again, so good.9 points

I just realized how many Grammy categories there are that Green Day could be eligable for beside best rock album. Hopefully they get at least one nomination next year8 points

Yeah, I remember when Muse won for Drones, that was done at the pre-ceremony. 🙄4 points

I think we need to be prepared for that because that’s what will happen. They will likely be nominated for Saviors and may win, but it won’t be on TV4 points

Just heard Bobby Sox, it’s getting airplay on SiriusXM Faction Punk station4 points

I noticed that too! The Grammys, like other award shows, have been doing a lot of damage control making sure to be more inclusive in their performers, nominees, and presenters, which is great....but they can't spotlight at least one rock category and bring on one rock act to perform? boygenius won a lot of awards last night and that album was so acclaimed, so why not invite them to perform? I think one year Foo Fighters won something and they did it off screen, which is bonkers because Foo Fighters are huge! They're one of the few rock bands the mainstream actually acknowledges and they still wouldn't broadcast it.4 points
-
@The Grohl I saw that they gave out the rock categories before the show started and then had U2 announce…a pop category. It’s bizarre to me that they can’t even leave one space for rock in the main broadcast. I don’t see how rock is ever going to make a mainstream comeback when the Grammys are pulling shit like this — with genuinely popular artists like boygenius and Paramore! If Green Day is nominated in 2025 they better not give them an award off-screen.4 points

This song grows on me the more I hear it. Something about that hook is so meaty!4 points

I watched the Grammys last night for the first time in maybe 2 years with the smallest glimmer of hope that Green Day would at least be in the audience. Nope4 points

Yeah, this album is shaping up to be sort of popular, but not in Dookie or AI's level.4 points

So I just saw a commercial on YouTube for ABC’s The Conners and The American Dream is Killing Me was playing in the background!!! This era has been getting A LOT of media attention so far!!! Hopefully this sets them up to win a Grammy next year!!!4 points

It's an absolute disgrace how little attention rock music and quality music in general have in mainstream nowadays. It's bizarre and devastating.3 points

I’m the same. Green Day may have ushered in a pop punk era, but all those bands that came after them didn’t sound like them. They thought they were imitating them but it ended up creating something entirely different and then they stayed in that lane while Green Day by that time had already evolved to the next thing. They were always better and creatively ahead of everyone else.3 points

All concerts today are anniversary / or straight up called greatest hits shows. It's lousy and I don't like it. Concerts have always leaned into the popular hits, so calling them celebrations of albums or hits show can only mean even more deep cuts are ignored. I think Covid made the industry want to find new ways of recouping their losses, and this is what we got. It sucks.3 points
-
Surely nobody expects them to ever be as popular as they were in 1994/5 or 2004/5? In terms of popularity, the numbers will continue to decline until they plateau and you have probably the legacy fans and casuals left with very little interest from "new" listeners. GD are so established that its easily sustainable and they'll continue to release and tour, but we're not far off that point IMO. This is the cycle of any band / artist.3 points

I know what you mean I haven't opened mine yet! Maybe we have one Tre signed Ringo and we don't know! Yeah I have to agree. I really love most of the songs (currently some as much as my old favourites) but there's just something. I have no idea how to describe it. I think the songs sound great individually but as an album it doesn't flow that well. Only my opinion of course3 points

I heard them play Dilemna twice yesterday. The best station for GD, for sure!3 points

Maybe they and Tom Hanks talked about the future of the American Idiot movie 😅3 points

Billie and Adie are so gorgeous together and with Cher, Serena Williams and Tom Hanks, hell this is more exciting than the Grammies!3 points

It was Tom Hanks’ production company Playtone who owned the rights for the American Idiot musical movie…hope they got a chance to catch-up properly 😆3 points

They seem to be sowing the Grammy seeds here for Saviors next year3 points

What do you mean by "popular". Cause I'm not seeing it being any more popular than any album from 1994-2009 and even albums like RevRad or Uno are albums that Saviors is unlikely to beat in terms of sales or streams. Like I think it will be more commercially popular than Dos/Tré & FOAMF. I'm not really expecting any more than that2 points

Was randomly looking for pictures of Rock the Beach 2013 and stumbled across this from 80s twitter in 2013. I never knew about existence of this picture. Holy shit it was even more wild than what I remembered.2 points
