  2. This album just keeps marinating well for me. Compared to FOAM that I lost interest in quickly once the initial new music feeling went away. Green Day really has their energy back with Saviors.

  6. I also would love to see rock back in the forefront, but I don't understand singling out pop or hip hop and damning it. For a while rap was doing some interesting stuff while rock felt very by the books and generic. I feel like both rap and pop have started to incorporate elements from other genres, which is what makes them so appealing. Rock has its moments, but when you think about who mainstream rock favors, it's pretty bland (Imagine Dragons) or by the books (Foo Fighters). And now we have the nostalgic factor in play where rock gets a little attention if a band reunites (like blink). That doesn't mean there aren't rock bands out there doing really cool stuff, but it's just harder for them to break mainstream these days. But I think more new rock bands need the proper support and push to get more eyes on them and the genre as a whole.

Saviors debut on #2 here in Germany šŸ„° Donā€˜t ask me whoā€˜s on Number 1, I dont know them šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚ God, I hate Schlager https://www.offiziellecharts.de/news/item/1344-offizielle-deutsche-charts-fantasy-schlagen-green-day?fbclid=IwAR1jE7LzCN4fZqM-hHhqSn2jkzFcBHFkoytT5HEvW-6LJqI_w2F8S0Pu8Zc_aem_AUhUo4mD0feshVdZpW3466bA-R-LiOlfeVeNlrddOdFDAW86DAM_xc7pzPmvhi8cXp8

  8. This song has such a bittersweet vibe where the lyrics, tempo and melody perfectly suit each other to tell its story making this one of the most emotional listens on the album for me.

  10. Interesting. This supports my assertion that everything Billie writes means something, we just donā€™t get the references sometimes because theyā€™re personal in jokes or obscure. Itā€™s why I hate it when people criticize his lyrics as ā€œnonsenseā€ Right, and so to write the line ā€œthe return of the blobā€ like a B movie title makes it a reference to both and itā€™s genius

  11. Got my Saviors vinyl! And I hate to say...I'm disappointed. The vinyl looks nothing like the mock up. The Spotify vinyl looks cooler than this.

  13. I just had a thought about the title and setting of this song. Back in 2022 we had photos of Billie, Adrienne and I think Kevin and Vicki from the showing of Grease at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. He posed for pictures in front of a vintage jukebox. So much of that event sounds like this song. "I'll take you to a movie that we've already seen" and "We'll walk the cemetery and I'll kiss you again" and the title Bobby Sox can refer to Grease with all the 50's girls wearing Bobby Sox in the movie. (As for the fact that he was there with both 80 and Kevin Iā€™ll let you draw your own conclusion šŸ˜‰)

  15. I love Green Day and music in general. But when I see people bullshitting an artist (a great artist) just because it's not Green Day that's why I answered. Nope

  16. See that line may not have worked for everyone, but he once explained a cello as a sad sounding instrument. And to be lost over the rainbow is like being in Oz, a stranger in a strange land. So he feels sad and lost in an unfamiliar place.

  18. The 180g vinyl sounds amazing, so happy with it. If it sounds better then the digital release depends on which digital files you are using, and most importantly which record player and sound system you are playing it with. In my case yes, definitely :))

  19. Not a huge fan of the Assai colour, tho the black and pink splatter from the official store is cool. Just wish Iā€™d gone for another variant like the neon pink HMV one but not sure I can justify a third vinyl šŸ˜‚

  20. I know, right? I listened to the album with headphones on in the dark last night and when the outro of Fancy Sauce kicked in, I got the shivers. It feels like you're suddenly standing there all alone in the chaos of the apocalypse with no one there to save you. And I can really feel the strong motif of the record coming to an end here (even though it's not a concept album, I think it's still there): You're drowning in the chaos of our absurd reality, desperately calling for a savior, maybe even a messiah ("Calling all saviors tonight. Will somebody save us tonight?" in the title track), but no one answers. No one's there. Whoa.

  26. I'm not going to pretend to be much of a rap fan or pop fan, I'm much more interesting in rock music generally while the "pop" music I tend to enjoy generally tends to be artists who used to be rock going pop, or rock bands doing a more pop-rock sound. In terms of rap, there's pretty much no "rap artists" that I really follow and I'm more interested in artists who have rap as part of their music but have other elements going on too i.e. Linkin Park. So in a lot of ways, I'm biased against pop and hip-hop music. That being said, I think the people trying to suggest that these types of music are all just bullshit and don't have their place are just really being ignorant. This type of music has existed for decades, the 90's and 00's which you guys are so desperately wishing was back still had a lot more pop music on the charts than rock music. And I absolutely think there can be a balance on the charts between many different types of music, regardless of whether we enjoy them all. Rock, pop, rap, country, whatever. I'm sure a lot of us would really enjoy some music from some of these genres we say we "hate" or don't care for if we actually made the effort to try different types of music. The downfall of rock music in the mainstream is partially the fault of rock fans. So many subgenres of rock including metal, punk, pop punk etc. are so gatekeep-y. Certain artists aren't really punk if we decide we don't like them. And a lot of artists feel they can't experiment without losing a lot of their fans. Additionally, a lot of rock fans don't make the effort to listen to new rock bands which is why we're so reliant on older rock artists to do well in order to have any kind of representation in the mainstream, on charts, at award shows. Even I'm guilty of this. I should be listening to relatively new rock artists but there are very few rock bands that have come about in the past decade that I have even bothered checking out

  27. When someone has only grown in popularity over their near 20 years in the industry, any help they got getting started is a bit irrelevant, no? Not denying Taylor has some tricks up her sleeve to help her reach certain achievements (and I say that as a fan), but ultimately sheā€™s talented, hardworking, and is genius at marketing herself. And definitely, definitely not stupid. ā€” Anyhoo, I was excited to see how my personal stats came out after a week of listening. According to Last.Fm, my plays were up 381% from last week lol ā€” 500 song plays and 26 hours of play time. My top tracks were: 1) Goodnight Adeline 2) Coma City 3) Living in the 20s 4) Corvette Summer 5) Dilemma

  28. You can see why artists push the physical copies by making variants and bundling things together, itā€™s a massive part of the sales and streaming just doesnā€™t achieve the same volume wise.

  29. So Saviors got 31,361 units made up of 14,955 CDs, 10,420 vinyl albums, 1,124 cassettes, 1,493 units from digital downloads and 3,369 sales-equivalent streams FOAM got 23,389 back in 2020. But is there an article or something detailing where exactly those 23,389 units came from, how much from CDs/vinyls/cassettes/digital/streams?

  40. I agree re MDP but I think I said theyā€™ve had a few great album closers, I include OW in that, well maybe not great but good. I feel like a GD album takes on you this wild emotional ride and often the closing song calms things down again so you can go back to normal life.

  41. Managed to have a few more listens now and I love it (except OEB and Saviors which could yet grow on me but I'm right now tempted to skip). It's insane people in the US haven't received their CDs yet. Everything of mine arrived on the day. The UK store doesn't seem to have the same problems That really does look nothing like the picture they posted. It's almost pink and green leopard print. My Assai vinyl was supposed to be half black and half pink but it's just like clear pink with a bit of grey.

  42. Maybe it's just me, but the first few times he sings "father to a son" I hear "when September ends" and that is like a gut punch. Made me like the song a bit more as I wasn't really feeling it before.

  45. So I managed to get to Rocking Horse records in Brisbane the other day and was able to get the CD, with the T-shirt, pin and poster from the listening party all thrown in for free. Pretty happy. I wasnā€™t able to get to the listening party so I am pretty happy.

  46. So Saviors did even slightly better than RevRad in the UK? Thatā€™s nice to see. Itā€™s obviously just the first week and doesnā€™t really matter but I just think itā€™s a great album and I want people to listen to it :D.

  47. Heā€™s on Radio X now! Talking about Rob Cavallo at the moment. Dilemma is Radio Xā€™s record of the week, and itā€™s one of Billieā€™s favourite tracks on the record. He says his actual favourite song changes all the time but itā€™s Fancy Sauce atm

  48. They have only 5 months plan, stage, and rehearse for a multi band tour. Not just their performance, but lights, graphics, planning, coordination with other bands on the bill, etc. they have their work cut out from them. They need this time. I doubt they will be idle.
