Keep pumping those streaming numbers we need to get this album to #1 because our boys deserve it.15 points

I think people care about the charts/sales because we love the album and want it to do well, I think it’s natural to want to see it beat the competition! But no, it doesn’t matter ultimately.13 points

“I’m a hater and a traitor in a pair of Chuck Taylors” is an awesome line. People call these lines cheesy or lame but they’re hilarious and tongue-in-cheek to me.9 points

I honestly don’t care about charts and streaming numbers, but I’m a nerd and enjoy the statistic side of it. Then of course I don’t care and don’t think sales are in any form an indicator of music quality, but as a fan of the band I would be very happy to see them on top of that chart.8 points

One week into listening to this record any time I had the chance to and it is only growing on me. To be completely honest I have absolutely no doubt this will stick with me as a classic Green Day release and one of my absolute favorites. I find it impressive for a band of 52 years old musicians to release a 14th record that is so solid, but what I find even more insane is that they are able to release a record that connects so well with such a diverse fanbase over 30 years into their career. I’m 31, listen to this band since I was 12 and still get goosebumps and manage to relate what they write and play. No doubt I am a weirdo with a weird attachment to this band, but this is insane. I still remember listening to an illegally downloaded mp3 of American Idiot on an iPod in the summer of 2005, while I was on vacation with my parents. I downloaded it in a rush right before leaving for a 2 weeks roadtrip cause there was not gonna be MTV available on the road and I couldn’t rely on radios. I only knew the singles playing on MTV at that point. 10 minutes after leaving I put my headphones on and realize that the record file was corrupted and the only songs being played were give me novocaine and homecoming. I clearly remember listening to those songs for two days in a row non-stop. I barely knew English back then and to this day I still have an alternative version of Homecoming with made up lyrics in my head. At the second day of the trip I had to listen to the whole record. As soon as my parents stop for groceries in a mall in Slovakia I sneak in a copy of AI in my mom’s grocery basket. That was the first record I bought (if you call that buying) in my life. Fortunately my mom pretended to not notice. She rightfully didn’t want to buy me a portable CD player as I had a fucking iPod. Also that meant not having me with headphones on the whole time. Needles to say my parents became big GD fans as well as we listened to that CD non-stop for the rest of the trip through the car speakers. Well, Saviors is constantly bringing back that memory, and only because of that I’ll love this record forever. Such a blessing to be a Green Day fan.8 points

A pretty interesting collection about Green day stuff here on BBC sounds. Old interviews, performances, people choosing there favourite tracks! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/series/p0h323yx?partner=uk.co.bbc&origin=share-mobile7 points

I also don't care about charts but it's always nice to see the boys doing well. Plus if the album charts well that puts them back in the mainstream spotlight which can mean more appearances in the media, which we all love. Remember how they were everywhere after AI? I think the chart success of that album played a hand in that. At the end of the day I don't care if Saviors teaches the top spot but if they then that's awesome.7 points

I was in the car and just heard Father to a son on the radio in Denmark (DR P4)… I was like whaaaaaaaaat ❤️ And yesterday they played Goodnight Adeline! Two days ago Suzie Chapstick! They are playing the whole record day after day, so nice to see this love for Saviors!7 points

It has been stated by multiple people during this discussion that no, it doesn’t matter if this album is commercially successful to us as fans and listeners. We’ll love the album no matter what. And yes, Green Day is plenty rich and successful. But because they’re so proud of it, it would just be really nice to see this album perform well and get some recognition. Fans want the album to do well because we want the guys to feel the love we have for the new music. They make music because they love it, we listen because we love it. That doesn’t negate the fact that it feels awesome to see Green Day do well! These sentiments come from a place of wanting the band to realize their efforts didn’t go unnoticed.6 points

It would change a lot. Rock music would come back on the radio. People wouldn’t think I’m stupid for liking Green Day. The band will have more motivation to continue. The record company will give them better budgets. They’d be one of the only bands in history to have 3 major hit records spaced that far apart. Like you can’t get rid of ‘em. I really hope this album does amazing commercially. Popular music these days is really depressing. I want songs in majors keys with guitars again. I listen to music to cheer myself up.6 points

@jengd So basically, Billie wrote that note not to remind US of the interview but to remind HIMSELF to get on the Zoom?5 points

Ah yes. GDC where it's a different kind of drama and I don't know anyone's real name or what they look like. 😄 Like in my head, you are literally a Spider-Man character and Boozy is Mario. And I assume the wrong gender of everyone on here somehow. GDC is better than facebook for sure though, I love it.5 points

If ever you needed proof that chart performance doesn’t really matter, Dookie, 20,000,000 sales, not a number 1. I think albums are remembered when they stay in people’s minds for a while rather than flash and burn.5 points

So they just said (sadly that arsehole Chris Moyles again) that the zoom interview with Billie Joe will be on tomorrow. Think he said they came in early first morning to zoom with him but he didn’t turn up, had to do it again the next day, he apologised. Don’t know what the story was there, didn’t hear it all proprerly. They also said he showed them round the room he was in! I wonder if it’s the Otis lounge? Anyway, will be aired tomorrow.5 points

I like TADIKM as the opener and I like where Saviors lands. I feel it would be too cheesy as an opener but works as a sort of sarcastic thematic refrain after the album has introduced us to a lot of sarcasm in tone.5 points

Dude, Facebook is a hate machine, almost any comment on any post is people throwing shit at whatever. Post about golf, people hating on golf. Post about teapots, people hating on teapots. That’s what people go on Facebook for. Hate and teapots.4 points

Very positive review from German online music magazine laut.de (4/5): https://www.laut.de/Green-Day/Alben/Saviors-122528 (For reference, they gave FOAM and RevRad 3/5, whereas everything from the trilogy got 2/5) Musikexpress, another German music magazine, gave the album 6,5/7 (weird system but ok). It’s only a very short review but I guess there’s a longer one in the magazine‘s printed version. https://www.musikexpress.de/reviews/green-day-saviors/ Last but not least, Visions magazine also praised the album. Seems like they don’t rate albums by numbers. However, they label the record a “beauty“. I guess that’s their rating system. https://www.visions.de/review/green-day-saviors/4 points

The release of Saviors really got me at the height of my fandom for this band again and I am THIS CLOSE to just snapping and buying everything I want in the GD store. This includes Saviors on vinyl, the Dookie anniversary pack (probably on cd), the Insomnac anniversary vinyl, and the Nimrod anniversary pack (probably cd version too). I’m sure they’re going to release something to celebrate the 20th anniversary of American Idiot too!!! I need to start picking up some overtime at my job or something in order to justify these purchases because I feel like I’m about to splurge big time. And it shall be glorious 😎4 points

The Rolling Stones' new album Hackney Diamonds did amazing as well - totally deserved because it simply IS amazing. But it was also the first new record with original material in 18 years. And it's the Rolling Stones who have always been more mainstream than other rock bands. Looks like if you don't have their size and status (and age, lol), it's become really hard to reach the mainstream nowadays.4 points

I hope so! They need to go back to Colbert! He'll be happy to host them 🥰4 points

This album is so good, reminds me what other GD albuns have in commom, a lot of songs would be good singles (Give Me Novacaine, Whatsername, Scattered, Restless Heart Syndrome) even if it dont ended up being one. Bobby Sox is a really good choice for a single, but Goodnight Adeline would be incredible too, Suzie Chapstick and Father to a Son as well.4 points

Well, Billboard seems to suggest is a close race to #1, those numbers might be fucked: https://www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/green-day-saviors-21-savage-american-dream-billboard-200-1235588648/amp/ They are suggesting the current #1 might release a deluxe edition in streaming to boost the numbers and stay #1. Doesn’t sound like a race for #3. Get that Spotify on continuous repeat people4 points

I apologize I just want the band to get the credit the deserve and yes the current music that is mainstream I have heard and feel it’s shallow and soulless and has a multitude of writers and directionless and watered down. It sucks rock is not popular as it was. I just feel Green Day are an unfairly judged/reviewed band and hope they get the proper respect and recognition they deserve outside of the fandom. They are in the Hall of Fame so they are already a “made” band just want them to get treated accordingly3 points

@jengd It’s definitely a Billie thing, not an American thing! Hahaha. “Herbs” is a funny example because it’s one of those instances where the h is included in the British pronunciation and silent in the American pronunciation. But in most cases, he actually sounds British to me when he pronounces words with a silent h — he should def be saying the h in heads to say it normally. Another example that comes to mind is in Give Me Novocaine — he doesn’t pronounce the h in “Jimmy says it’s better than here” and so it either sounds British or like he’s saying “better than air” to my American ear!3 points

A week later and I'm still bumping that album. I feel I don't endlessly play records much anymore unless I absolute love them. Even with FOAM, which I liked, there was a point where I said okay I'm good and moved on shortly after release. Absolutely love this album.3 points

It's really funny that Ultimate Guitar wrote nothing about Green Day for about years and since one year they suddenly write about them weekly 😅3 points

åbenbart kan p4 godt bruges til noget en gang imellem! Now we just need it to hit p6 and p3, although they don't play much rock on p3 these days do they? Speaking of hit radio, I must admit I ought to check into how Saviors is doing here on Swiss stations, but I'm not much of a radio listener to be honest. I could imagine it doing quite well on NRj Rock or NRj Bern or so. Update: They've played songs off Saviors and dedicated an entire episode to the album release on SRF 3 which is pretty cool. SRF is not listened to thaaat much among Swiss radio listeners, it's publicly financed and tends to lose out to the private competition. But being featured on SRF 3 is pretty cool as it is the considered the "youth" channel of all SRF channels and usually plays hits/charts. Kinda the Swiss equivalent of p3. So way to go Green Day!3 points

So I managed to get to Rocking Horse records in Brisbane the other day and was able to get the CD, with the T-shirt, pin and poster from the listening party all thrown in for free. Pretty happy. I wasn’t able to get to the listening party so I am pretty happy.3 points

Billboard charts, streaming charts.. bleh. Ramble incoming. I still don't understand why anyone gives a shit about album doing commercially well enough or not. At the end of the day it simply does not matter. Trilogy is my favorite records from Green Day ever and those albums ''flopped'' in terms of album sales and fans reaction. Revolution Radio was seen as ''return to form'', it sold well and fans liked it, but that album is quite literally unlistanable to me thanks to loudness wars (Outlaws is the best example of this - notice how after quiet part your ears start literally bleeding due to how loud chorus it is) and even without production issues the songs are soulless and dull and I never enjoyed the album nor its songs as what they are. Father of All Motherfuckers is seen by almost every single one as the worst Green Day album ever, but even that shit had tracks I listen to this day with Sugar Youth being on top. Then there is Saviors which is once again seen as ''return to form'' but this time songs are actually produced well and songs themselves (not all of them) feel alive and real - something that was missing from Revolution Radio. At times Billie writes really straightforward and at times he stumbles to his own shit by writing nonsense that can hardly be understood even by his most loyal audience. Still, it very much feels alive and real and themes surrounding this record are honest. Do you know how easy it would be for The Boys to just give in and do a record where they say fuck Trump on every single song? I'm just glad that they're making the songs they want to make and not what everyone wants them to make. That's part of Father of All Motherfuckers charm. It's definitely a record they wanted to make. My point is that even if Saviors would sell 10 million copies, would that change anything? Would this mean it's literally top 3 Green Day album? Of course not. For me it's in top 5, but I can see why someone else would put it in bottom 5 instead. It's a safe record like Revolution Radio and doesn't offer anything new to diehard Green Day fan. Dilemma will be remembered as the best song from this album (which I disagree with, Corvette Summer is a bop) and songs like Strange Days will be forgotten, but that doesn't mean album is shit. It's good. Really good.3 points

I don't care too much about the digipak. I'm more surprised by the lack of inner artwork. The lyrics are just typed out on a white background. This is the first album they released like that — everything else from 39/Smooth to FOAM had designed liner notes. And, with the lyric book, we know that art exists! So, it's just odd and disappointing. I love the actual album though! And the accompanying music videos.3 points

Someone received his signed CD. Tré signed Ringo on it 😂 Can't wait to receive mine.3 points

Omg in some sense I hope they don’t do every night different, because that’s what I’ve been dreaming of them doing for 15 years since I started seeing them live. And if they do every night different I’m going to need to go to 10 shows. Which in 2009 would’ve cost me under $1000, and now it would be over $3000 (not including flights hotels etc). Also I don’t wanna sit through smashing pumpkins 10 times lol. I hope the second leg is them playing indoor arenas with only one opener and different sets each night! For only $100 a show!3 points

Saviors is a better song though. But true they are both sort of rallying cries, but also Saviors is much more sarcastic.3 points

Seriously let’s all do our best to stream. They have a shot at a number 1 album and that would be huge. They put their hearts into this record and upcoming tour for us fans it’s time we give back and help them have another number 1 album. It’s possible. Keep streaming keep getting the word out there. Lets show the world great bands can still have a #1 debut regardless of what’s popular let’s fucking go and put this on top!!!3 points

That would be a powerful opener, but I’m really glad they went with TADIKM. While this album touches on issues that vary from individual to societal, I think TADIKM sums up the entire album’s tone best, because I feel like it speaks to how this chaotic world is dragging us down both as a whole and personally.3 points

I interpret the robot line as a commentary on how disconnected we are from each other even though we are "connected" in the sense of being online. So instead of actually meeting up with someone for a romp, you have a robot that you can adjust to your liking. Like we're all so isolated from society and people in general even though we have all this technology that connects us to each other.3 points
