  1. The lyrics on Saviors are excellent. This is without question one of their best written albums to me. They’re clever, at times very funny, specific, and vivid. They capture the mood of the songs and the mood of the era we’re living in very well. I have been in awe over the last few days at how many incredibly smart and powerful lines are in the mix here. The only Green Day lyrics I’ve ever found “cringey” are a few here and there from FOAM and the trilogy, but that’s honestly more down to lyrics that I feel don’t match their vibe as a band (“BMX-ellent tits” comes to mind…they’re just not that kind of band, thank god). I also prefer sociopolitical songs with more specificity than less, and at times Billie can be vague on this (I LOVE Revolution Radio and Troubled Times, but these are examples of songs that are pretty general). A lack of specificity is not an issue on Saviors at all for these types of songs, though.

  2. Finally got my record! I got the black with pink splattered on it, it looks really cool. I put it on and sat on the floor and read through the lyrics while I listened.

  3. The board we saw Rob Cavallo holding up on the IG post showing Dilemma as the opening track, «Welcome to my problems» as an opening line into Saviors would give me the absolute chills.

  5. The last song to be played on Green Day Radio was "¿Viva la Gloria? (Little Girl)" 🫡 Also, I recorded and uploaded a bunch of audio clips from Green Day Radio of the band talking about songs/albums since I wanted them to be archived and accessible after the radio station ended. I didn't capture everything but I feel like I got a lot of good stuff, if anyone else has stuff I most likely missed, please share! https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Z2Fs2DvDfhAFB3bDZGUXuT7rMB-lfQTx?usp=drive_link

  6. Well, Billboard seems to suggest is a close race to #1, those numbers might be fucked: https://www.billboard.com/music/chart-beat/green-day-saviors-21-savage-american-dream-billboard-200-1235588648/amp/ They are suggesting the current #1 might release a deluxe edition in streaming to boost the numbers and stay #1. Doesn’t sound like a race for #3. Get that Spotify on continuous repeat people

  7. physical cd's are dying, sadly in my city in germany (~50.000 people) i checked two stores who sell electronic entertainment stuff and other electronic goods the second largest didnt even get the new album, and the largest store (its the largest electronic goods market company in germany) only had 2 cd's available (i was lucky enough to get one) and what drugs did the warner company take to use a different cd box format? i got every GD album as cd and the saviors album is "bigger" in its size, my whole collection looks weird now and talking about suzie chapstick: i'm not crying, you are crying its easily one of the most beautiful songs i've heard in a looong time

  8. I want this album to perform well because I know the band is really proud of it and for them, it would just be really cool to see Saviors get the recognition it deserves. On a personal level, I love it no matter what and definitely don’t care what that YouTube guy thinks. It would just be sweet to see it chart and stream well because I think that’s validating for any artist. Green Day makes music for the right reasons — because they love it, not accolades — but I’m sure accolades still feel great!

  9. I just stumbled upon this one. The interview bit starts right after the one hour mark at around 1:01:30! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001v9zw

  10. Seriously let’s all do our best to stream. They have a shot at a number 1 album and that would be huge. They put their hearts into this record and upcoming tour for us fans it’s time we give back and help them have another number 1 album. It’s possible. Keep streaming keep getting the word out there. Lets show the world great bands can still have a #1 debut regardless of what’s popular let’s fucking go and put this on top!!!

  11. That would be a powerful opener, but I’m really glad they went with TADIKM. While this album touches on issues that vary from individual to societal, I think TADIKM sums up the entire album’s tone best, because I feel like it speaks to how this chaotic world is dragging us down both as a whole and personally.

  12. I interpret the robot line as a commentary on how disconnected we are from each other even though we are "connected" in the sense of being online. So instead of actually meeting up with someone for a romp, you have a robot that you can adjust to your liking. Like we're all so isolated from society and people in general even though we have all this technology that connects us to each other.

  13. This isn't just directed at you but I don't understand how someone who loved RevRad can think Saviors is just mid. I mean what's cringe about the lyrics in Saviors that wasn't cringe about the lyrics in RevRad and especially the trilogy. The production on Saviors is leagues better than anything they've done since 21CB Considering they haven't "sold millions" since 21CB, I don't think that it's true that they could record an album with fart sounds and sell millions
    7 points
  14. Well they just completed one of the biggest stadium tours of that year and millions of people came out to see them so I’d say they’re still on plenty of people’s radars

  15. Slightly less album sales (when album sales are becoming less and less every year) but almost double the streaming numbers? I think that's an indicator that Saviors is gonna do much better than FOAMF. Maybe not in terms of chart positions but in terms of overall success. Album sales will likely die off after the first 2 weeks. Streaming is much more important in the long run, even if the album sales are the main source of the album's first week units Better than FOAMF was what I expected but I was hoping that it would do similar to other rock bands in a similar state to Green Day (i.e. big rock bands from the 90's/00's still releasing music today) Foo Fighter's But Here We Are debuted with 62,000 units (not specified how many came from sales/streaming/digital) Fall Out Boy's So Much (for) Stardust debuted with 64,000 units (not specified how many came from sales/streaming/digital) Paramore's This Is Why debuted with 64,000 units (47,000 from pure album sales, 14,000 from streaming/digital sales) blink's One More Time debuted with 125,000 units (101,000 from pure album sales, 24,000 from streaming/digital sales) Again, this is still an estimate. I'm not expecting it to be off by much but it could still be higher than 51,000

  16. Hoping to post my review here this weekend, but yeah: I love it. I think when all is said and done this is going to go down as a classic later period Green Day album. Really strong work. I’ve been loving the ‘zine lyrics book. And the promotion for this one has been on. point.

  17. I think the title track towards the end ties into TADIKM well and that wouldn't work as well if TADIKM wasn't the first track imo. Saviors sees the narrator wanting someone to save them from the American Dream which is killing them

  18. No «razor blades» or «bottle rockets» lyrics on Saviors is pretty dissapointing tho 😗

  19. I agree! But the first note from TADIKM opening the album are still fucking good.

  21. I wish they used the artworks they used for the lyric book for the booklet.

  22. For how much time folks had to produce packaging for this album I am very underwhelmed. Cover is weird, back cover is plain, the booklet is plain, the CD being a piece of folded cardboard, etc. The whole physical product is uninspiring. I understand physical sales aren't like what they used to be but some amount of effort would have been appreciated to match the quality of the music.

  23. In early 2004, before the promotion of the album had begun, Mike shared thorough details about the whole process in an interview with Steve Rosen, which was never released but resurfaced when he uploaded it a few years ago. Obviously the band hadn't agreed upon the other "stolen tapes" explanation back then, why it makes this particular interview very interesting (and obviously more thruthfully). In this, he clearly says exactly what most of us would've thought anyway: suddenly, late in the process (before the AI concept came about) they came up a few other songs that they felt had a different quality to it and was "worth chasing", so they did. He also says they could perhaps release a CD a few years down the line with the other batch of songs they scrapped in favour of it. Perhaps this never happaned due to the massive sucess and critical acclaim of American Idiot?

  24. Liking Suzie Chapstick is a hot take? What? It's one of my favorites too! But I'm still having a hard time ranking the songs, it's like with every listen the entire list gets shuffled. Everything is so damn good.
    5 points
  25. Yeah, it's honestly a fine enough song, very clearly an outtake from FOAMF. I also like that Saviors gave us an actual B-Side from Japan and not just a live track again like Revolution Radio and FOAMF did.

  27. An audio version of the interview that’s a bit longer/less edited. Really enjoying the vibe of this era & all of these interviews! https://omny.fm/shows/audacy-check-in/green-day-audacy-check-in-1-19-24

  28. I like TADIKM as the opener and I like where Saviors lands. I feel it would be too cheesy as an opener but works as a sort of sarcastic thematic refrain after the album has introduced us to a lot of sarcasm in tone.

  29. 5/5 from DIY https://diymag.com/review/album/green-day-saviors “A soundtrack while the world’s going to shit - catharsis has never sounded this good.” They gave FOAM 3/5

  30. I'm honestly having trouble even thinking of cringey lyrics from Saviors. It's a lot easier to think of cringey lyrics (or at least lyrics that I know others would find cringey) for the trilogy, FOAMF and even RevRad. Even disregarding the cringe moments, I think the more political tracks are written much better on Saviors than RevRad which relies on buzz words and vagueness. The title track and Troubled Times are good examples of this. I don't want to imply that RevRad sucks, I like the album including those 2 songs, but I just think Saviors is the better album, especially when it comes to production & lyrics. Saviors suffers from this vagueness a little bit but not to the same degree, there's a lot more mention of actual things going on and things that we can all relate to in 2024 after the past few years of life

  31. You and I are the same I'm so torn when albums come with posters because a part of me wants to hang them up and the other thinks no I have to keep all the packaging together!!! Same thing with stickers. I still haven't used the Trilogy sticker I got with the box set, and I probably never will
    4 points
  32. Honestly I'm not a fan of this poster. I don't mind the 3D effect, but I hate the scratches. Looks like someone who hates me took a key or a needle to my poster.

  40. I love his voice throughout all eras. Also, I love that he’s never been a perfect singer. Give me those human moments of imperfection!
    4 points
  41. I think it's totally normal that the voice changes over the years. No 50 year old sounds like when he was 20. But by the way, I think some songs off Saviors could be straight off 21stCB or the Trilogy in terms of how his voice sounds.

  43. We’ve come along way from: ”I like your BM-Excellent tits” ”killing you to death” ”it’s fuck time” ”She’s old enough to bleed now” ”All I got was Santa Claus” “Kick the dog when the whistle blows” I could keep going. I’ll never dog on anyone for liking the trilogy, FOAM, etc. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and albums mean a lot to people for very personal reasons. The trilogy came out right at a time I was starting to figure out life and those jangly guitars instantly transport me back to a simpler time. But Saviors lyrics as a whole are lightyears ahead of anything they’ve done since 21CB, and to suggest otherwise is pretty out there.

  44. #2 on the German midweek charts, so that’s probably where the album will chart on Friday. I’m not telling you who’s no. 1 because that would be embarrassing 😂. https://www.mtv.de/info/xx6dav/midweek-album-top100

  46. What the hell Billie, we need to know in advance! (didn’t say that to him 😂😂) Hm, they literally just said Billie Joe would be on Radio X on Friday morning. I’ve switched from Kerrang so will keep an ear out.

  47. Watching the video I cannot stop to think that they kinda did recreate an old show from 1990. This one:

  48. "They promised us forever but we got less." That line is unbelievable...hope, hurt, love, and loss in one line. I find there's at least one line in every song that I'm drawn to and think it's a doozy, but this one is the one I keep singing over and over.
