I didn’t really get the artwork until I heard the whole album. Now, in context of the more sociopolitical songs, to me it’s just like well, not much we can do now that everything is falling apart around us. A lot of these songs are a mixture of genuine despair and absurdity, like “you gotta laugh that this is how the world ends.”19 points

I so thoroughly enjoyed your entire review of the album, but thought this part was very sweet and just had to tell you. --- I've been listening to this album on repeat all weekend and this is my rating breakdown at the moment. Ranking them 1–15 would be nearly impossible. This album has too many bangers to do that. 1. TADIKM (9/10): I absolutely love the guitars in this song. It's dance-y in some way, even though it goes pretty hard. The teaser for this is what made me go, "Oh, Green Day might be BACK BACK" and so I have a special fondness for it for that reason. 2. Look Ma, No Brains (8/10): This one took me a while to warm up to. When I heard it in the car for the first time, I finally came aboard because this song has ENERGY that is absolutely unreal throughout the chorus. The structure of the song is interesting too, with the chorus not popping up until more than halfway through. Great bridge, too. Love the "don't panic, don't panic, don't go, don't go" backing vocals. Mike's performance is also a highlight here. It seems awesome live! 3. Bobby Sox (9/10): This song is so cute and feels like a hug. Billie's vocals here are outstanding throughout, and his yelling parts are really well done. It's also just extremely badass to me that it's inclusive with the girlfriend/boyfriend switching. Unfortunately, today that still feels pretty radical to include in a rock song. 4. One Eyed Bastard (8.5/10): This song so fun. It reminds me a lot of Say Goodbye, and I love Say Goodbye. Billie's vocals are also awesome on this song (sorry, I'm gonna say this a lot). I love how heavy it is. 5. Dilemma (10/10): I think I've already word vomited about this song all over this board plenty. The TL;DR is that it means a lot to me that it exists, that it's as blisteringly honest as it is, and that it was shared with us. I love that the last note of the intro sounds a bit off, and how the guitar solo in the bridge gets increasingly frantic and urgent, representing someone spiraling out of control. Billie's "I don't wanna be a dead man walkING" lines are an actual out-of-body experience every single listen. This song hasn't lost one bit of its emotion or intensity for me even though I've replayed it tons of times. 6. 1981 (7.5/10): This one isn't quite as memorable to me as the other upbeat songs (but it's growing on me — it has 8.5 potential lol), but I really like the Cold War theming. "If this is not a test, we got one foot in the grave" is a great line, and I also love how the entire sound of the song turns a bit sinister at the "pain, commies and cocaine" part. 7. Goodnight Adeline (10/10): This song made an immediate, huge impression on me. Love the guitar solo in this song, love that huge chorus ("SOONER OR LATER WHATEVER WHENEVER" is so good and is sung so passionately, I'm already yelling it along with him). "I'll see you later when I get my shit together" is one of my favorite lines on the album. 8. Coma City (10/10): This feels like a big, 21CB type of song and I love it so much. Their musical chemistry in this song is so enthralling — they're really firing on all cylinders together () on this song and you absolutely can hear it. That outro kicks ass and Tre's drumming really shines here. Also, the "assholes in space" line delights me. 9. Corvette Summer (9/10): I could resist loving this song, but why? It's such a blast and I can't sit still listening to it. I enjoy me some southern rock from time to time and this hits the spot. "Hit me with power chords before you lay me dead" and "Take me to urgent care or the record store" are such fantastic lines. The cowbell makes me happy. It works so well as an ode to rock 'n' roll. 10. Suzie Chapstick (9.5/10): This one really resonates with me. I like slower Green Day most of the time and this one hits so hard. Beautiful, relatable lyrics and it really just evokes a specific feeling of yearning for someone you wish was still in your life, and maybe it's your own fault they're not. It very specifically sounds like being in a black cab in London on a rainy day. 11. Strange Days Are Here to Stay (10/10): It's the return of The Blob! This is another one where the band's musical chemistry is just so apparent. It feels like a classic Green Day song, but evolved. I feel like Billie was extremely specific in his political and social references in American Idiot, and since then, he has slowly been getting more vague in his commentary (which isn't always a bad thing — Troubled Times is vague and I adore that song). But his lyrics are so pointed on this album and that's one of my favorite aspects of the entire thing. This is one great example of it — love the references to Bowie, 3D-printed firearms, the cultural obsession of superheroes (which is quite bleak given the real world needs saving), and "Are we in hell or is this fantasy? I can't see this ending well, now that it's too late." It paints a very accurate picture of how half of us seem to acknowledge we're living in apocalyptic times while the other half carries on without a care. 12. Living in the '20s (10/10): This song SLAPS. From the second they dropped this teaser on Instagram, I was in love with this song. The pronunciation of "TWEN-TIES" sounds awesome (underrated pronunciations: Listen, the way he growls "fucking" is just phenomenal here. It had to be said. Also huge shoutout to how he similarly growls "batteries" because I am obsessed with how he sings it). I love darker, heavier Green Day sooooo much. This is another example of really specific lyrics about the present times and it's great. 13. Father to a Son (8/10): This one is growing on me, but it didn't immediately click. It gets a lot of comparisons to WMUWSE and now that I think about it, as beautiful as WMUWSE is, it's not necessarily a personal favorite or one I go out of my way to listen to it, so maybe that's part of why I don't feel super strongly. I do think the string arrangement here is gorgeous and, mixed with the guitars in the second half, the song really soars by the end. The beautiful instrumentals sound like the type of music that should play at the climax of a coming-of-age indie movie. 14. Saviors (8.5/10): I love the vocal filters on this song; it very appropriately sounds like he's using megaphone. I like the line "I gotta chuckle, what a dumb way to die/Everything coming up roses" and I LOVE LOVE LOVE "Everyone's asleep but nobody's dreaming/we got all the fiction that's worth believing." 15. Fancy Sauce (10/10): Is this the catchiest slow song ever written? It somehow is so dark and depressing and uplifting at the same time that we're all in "the looney bin" together for one reason or another. "Watch the evening news 'cause it's my favorite cartoon" — like seriously, what an absurdly talented lyricist Billie is, jesus. I also love the Nirvana reference in here. I think this album is probably filled with other musical references I haven't caught yet. Another banging outro and the perfect way to end the album. This comes out to a 9.1 average. But tbh, this album overall is a 10 in my heart. I am so impressed and so grateful and so happy.12 points

I was telling some of my friends yesterday how this album reminds me of being a 12 year old kid discovering the band for myself for the very first time through the trilogy. I would annoy my brother half to death because all I ever wanted to talk about was Green Day and it was so bad that when his wife asked him if he wanted to buy tickets to see them he said no cause he was sick of hearing about them! Or when RevRad was coming out and my friends had to actively tell me to shut the fuck up about Green Day, which was only possible for about five minutes. I've been gushing about this album so much to the friends I have now. It's great!10 points

Yes I did see that! So wild! I agree his neck does give him away, but not all the time. I know posture and the position of his head, etc. affects that, but sometimes I see no sign of age and other times it's quite apparent. Anyway, came here to point out the way Billie is intently staring at that cake! It's like he's thinking about all the different ways he can absolutely wreck it like the monster he is. photo from @Rumpelstiltskin2000's tumblr because I couldn't figure out how to download the single image from Billie's IG story.9 points

Says Page Not Found Here’s the link: https://people.com/billie-joe-armstrong-reacts-being-called-bisexual-icon-discusses-sexuality-8546737 Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong Thinks It’s ‘F---ing Cool’ Being Called a Bisexual Icon (Exclusive) The Green Day frontman — whose 14 album, 'Saviors,' dropped on Friday — opens up about his sexuality Billie Joe Armstrong is more than happy to identify as a bisexual icon. "I like it. I think it's f---ing cool that someone calls me a bisexual icon. I've seen that before. I'm like, 'Fuck, yeah!'" Armstrong, 51, tells PEOPLE. The Green day frontman — whose band just released their 14th studio album, Saviors — first came out as bisexual in a 1995 interview with The Advocate, and he's heartened to see how conversations about sexuality have evolved in the nearly three decades since. "Being a Gen X-er, I feel like there was a seed that got planted where it was the era in the '90s that we came up, where men were discovering more of being with other men and being more bisexual, and coming out with that, whether it was someone like Kurt Cobain or what I was saying," Armstrong says. "It's way more complex now, as far as sexuality. You're like, 'Wow, we've really come a long way.' Even though it's still kind of looked at as being taboo, I think people now are a lot more brave than they've ever been. I think people are way more open now." Armstrong has been married to his wife, Adrienne, 54, for 29 years, and they share two sons, Joey, 28, and Jakob, 25. Because of his marriage and family life, some online have questioned whether he actually is bisexual or just an LGBTQ ally "Sexuality is always so much more than what the standard, nuclear-family type of way of looking at things," he says. "But I have been married — there's this other side of me that's very conventional when it comes to my 30-year marriage to my wife. But I just look at sexuality: It's not one way or the other. And if anybody ever tries to say that, I don't think they're really being honest with themselves." Green Day's new song "Bobby Sox" — which the band performed Thursday night at a SiriusXM concert at Irving Plaza in New York City — was initially inspired by Armstrong's nights on the couch watching The Office with his wife, but it evolved into something of a queer anthem. In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, Armstrong voiced his support for the transgender community. "I just think they’re f---ing close-minded," he said of transphobic people. "It’s like people are afraid of their children. Why would you be afraid? Why don’t you let your kid just be the kid that they are?"9 points

The song's lyrics reminded me of something he said in the post rehab Rolling Stone interview in 2013. He talked about how he was afraid that Adrienne was going to leave him over what had happened (and implying that it still could happen if he drinks again). So it stands to reason if that was his fear that when he resumed drinking and was depressed over it that he just resigned himself to it and said "fuck it, she's gonna leave me sooner or later, might as well drink", in a kind of throw your hands up and surrender kind of way when you can't control your addiction. I think "Adeline" is a stand in name for "Adrienne" From The Sun article: “I was sober for several years, and then I had a bit of fear of missing out, so I started drinking again. And I wrote a little of that song dealing with that hangover, and the struggle of once I start, I can’t stop. “I saw my doctor and saw bloodwork come back that said, ‘You’re not as healthy as you should be. Your liver is not being good to you’. “I was like, ‘All right, that’s enough for me’, So I didn’t do any kind of programme, I just stopped. I'm sorry he got to that point but if that was the wake up call he needed I hope it's the one that works for good. That's scary.6 points

Nerd look at these numbers: 8,5 Million streams is worth ~5.700 album sales when it comes to charts (1500 streams = 1 album sale). This is in two days and only from Spotify. FOAM got 6000 equivalent album sales in a week (considering all streaming platforms), about 9 Million streams in a week. Unless I am missing something I think this is a good indicator of Saviors doing much better than its predecessor.6 points

I agree with this so much. I think the song can have a very different meaning for everyone. For me personally, it reminds me of a friendship that fell apart during the pandemic (like many other friendships, I guess). Covid wasn’t the main reason though, that friend had started to get radicalized and involved in a right-wing movement long before, but I didn’t want to see it. At some point, I couldn’t take it anymore and broke up contact. I still miss this person sometimes, but I miss a version of him that no longer exists and that will never return. The song captures those mixed, happy-sad, nostalgic and melancholic feelings in a perfect way.6 points

i mean, billie joe still delivered on his promise to release music more often. Between FOAM and Saviors we've had: - Weekly cover songs from him during 2020 - A new The Network album in late 2020 - Three singles (Here Comes the Shock, Pollyana and Holy Toledo) throughout 2021 Besides, I still believe 1972 was supposed to be an EP that overtime transformed into Saviors. That they would have potentially release it in 2022.6 points

I really adore this song. It's so beautiful in how melancholic it is, and I also find it relatable — whether it's a romantic relationship, friendship, or familial relationship, I think we've all had situations where we fell out for one reason or another and now that person we love is a stranger, even if we wish we could take back what happened.6 points

The day of release started pretty fucking shitty for me, a day that I had been counting down to for weeks. Went to the record store to pick up what was supposedly a hand signed indie CD and a indie vinyl on friday. Heart pumping. But, turns out that the store had forgot to order everything prior to release, so they had nothing at all. The only version they can get now is the regular black vinyl.. Went out the shop with nothing, getting serious flashbacks to 2019 where I ordered a uncensored version of Father of All vinyl (which they just made 1000 copies of I believe?), this one never even left the GD store. Never got an explanation to why I never recieved it, but hey, I got som digital mp3 files instead for free 🙃 Saviors is a great fucking album and the diversity and different sounds really come together as a complete album. There's no "low lows" and no "high highs" which just makes it a really stable and well produced album. You can place almost every song on that album into another, some fits AI, others fits Nimrod. Saviors combines all the different sounds and styles that GD has produced over their enitre career. Well fucking done boys.5 points

Some great reviews here, I agree so much with @stories and songs about all the lyrics and Billie’s delivery is so good, you can feel boys sparking off each other and driving each other on. In an effort to not drive my poor, patient husband insane and due to walking with friends, I’ve not played the album all through since Saturday and I’m beginning to twitch 😂😂. My least favourite is 1981 but I like the lyrics and don’t dislike the song, won’t be skipping it. Thank you Green Day for yet more stunning music 👏👏👏5 points

Since others are doing this, I thought I’d share my thoughts on all of the tracks and rate them now that I’ve had a few days with them! The American Dream is Killing Me (10/10): What a way to open the curtains to this album. Hearing the teaser of this sent me into a tornado of excitement. I kept thinking how the intro riff was 21st Century Breakdown-esque (I became a fan in 2009). The guitars are big and lively and the vocals sound crisp as hell. The drums are also huge-sounding. I think Billie’s voice sounds the best it’s sounded, especially during the pre-chorus. Look Ma, No Brains! (9/10): If any song on this album reminded me of another, it would be this one. But that’s not a bad thing because they made it a whole new thing! I’ve played “Maria” and this one back-to-back just to compare how their sound has evolved and they have a much fuller sound these days! What a banger that managed to get me hyped for the album. Mike’s bass lines really stick out on this song, especially during the bridge. Don’t call it a comeback! This song is super fun to play on guitar, and for that, it gets a boost in my mind. Classic Green Day, and I actually really like the lyrics and think they go really well with the instrumentals. Bobby Sox (7/10): I can’t believe that the comparison to Chester Bennington’s voice was actually accurate! I can totally see the resemblance. I think the best part of this song is the bridge! I can see why they chose it to be a single! The solo is very Weezer and the overall song reminded me of Fidlar, one of my favorite bands! It makes sense since they’ve been having Fidlar’s friends/family help them make their music videos! The lyrics came off as kind of cringe during my first listen, but I think they’re growing on me! One Eyed Bastard (9/10): The first time I heard this song from the leak, I was wondering why they would have ever decided to keep this banger off an album and immediately thought it would make a great single, so I’m happy they’ve made it one! This melody allows Billie Joe to use the greatest traits of his voice, and I enjoy the bada bang chorus! Yeah, the riff reminded me of Pink at first, but it is different enough to not think about it anymore. The outro heavy power chords, reminiscent of Hitchin’ a Ride’s heavy riff-age, are orgasmic. Yeah I said it. Dilemma (10/10): Absolutely the best choice for a single so far. The song is honest, Billie Joe is singing the fuck out of it, the guitars are heavy, what more can I ask for. I love me some chunky Green Day guitar riffs, and this one gives me all the chunk I could ask for. 1981 (10/10): I was all smiles listening to this song through my headphones today. That one part before the chorus where the bass is super audible and reminded me of bass lines in “Stuck With Me” is awesome. Mike’s bass lines are refreshing and full of life throughout this album, but he is definitely on top of his game during this song. The bass during the bridge is awesome. Billie’s vocals sound very American Idiot to me in this particular song, with just the right amount of polish. Thanks Rob Cavallo! Goodnight Adeline (9.5/10): This was an obvious standout for me after my listening party and was stuck in my head. Just wonderful. And Billie’s ability to hit those high notes cleanly during the chorus blew me away, especially during the first listen. And then he goes ahead and says hold my (non-alcoholic) beer and sings even higher after the key change! He’s still got it! The drum rolls after the chorus are an extremely nice touch as well! The best ballad on this album in my opinion. Coma City (7.8/10): The parts of this song that stick out the most are the instrumentals! The heavy guitar riffs in the middle followed by a breakdown that highlights Tre and Mike’s chemistry really pushes this song to a new level. Tre’s drum fills are also kick ass. I kind of wish Tre used more of his toms in his fills at the end because they just sound so awesome, but that’s just me being nit picky. Corvette Summer (10/10): This song was stuck in my head the most leaving my listening party. Talk about a hook that grabs you right away and keeps you rocking until the very end of the song. Definitely one of the most infectious melodies on the album. Also one of the best crunchy guitar riff moments of the entire album when all of the other instruments drop out. Its verses remind me of something Oasis would’ve done. It’s one of several moments where they express that influence! (Even though it’s a 10/10 for me, I must admit, I would’ve been worried for the album if they released this as a first single haha) Suzie Chapstick (7/10): The ba ba dum dum part with electric guitar matching the melody is great and really stuck out to me. It’s really nice to hear another softer Green Day song like this on the album to keep things interesting too. Mike’s bass really shines in this song too! Even though it’s not one of my top songs from this album, it’s a very welcome inclusion. Strange Days are Here to Stay (8/10): That better be blue in the intro! The jangly, crunchy guitar licks in the chorus are so Longshot! Specifically the song Happiness. All those side projects have contributed beautifully to the sound of this album. I saw someone comment on how they think Billie’s “old” deeper way of singing would fit this song better, and I kind of agree, but that doesn’t really take away from the song much at all. I like the Gen-Z killing Baby boomer line! I also love the guitar playing during the “fentanyl” line. It matches beautifully. Living in the 20’s (8/10): At first, the song this reminded me of was Sugar Youth for some reason. I can see why people on here are saying it reminds them of Horseshoes and Handgrenades (one of my top Green Day songs of all-time) The Foxboro-esque solo is always welcome on a Green Day song! Aggressive Green Day songs are always great and the awesome screaming Billie does at the end is the cherry on top. Tre’s drum fills at the end are also top-notch. Father to a Son (9/10): This song should be a single for sure! When’s the last time they had a single this soft? People need to hear this side of Green Day more! It has huge potential and gets the one of the biggest emotional responses from me during this trip of an album. The horns that come in are also so sweet! It reminds me of Brutal Love’s orchestral traits. Tre hitting the toms, building up to the song’s outro is a great moment. Overall this song has a wonderful build up throughout its entirety and the last chords remind me of the end of the end of “The End” on Abbey Road. Grandiose-sounding! Saviors (9/10): Billie sounds awesome using the megaphone effect and and the heavy guitar chords that come in like a call-and-response with the vocal line is so satisfying. The guitar tones for the solo are great! Fancy Sauce (10/10): Ending on an extremely high note. This song was one of 3 that were stuck in my head after my listening party. The melody and the harmonies that happen halfway through the chorus instantly brought a huge smile to my face. A song like this is exactly what I want from Green Day. It’s so melancholic. The production and melody makes me think that this would fit well on 21st Century Breakdown. Love the guitar lick between the “we all die young some day” lines. It’s more call-and-response between the vocals and guitar, which is something I really liked on the song “Saviors”. The instrumental outro is perfect to end this album. Wow what a closer! It contains the Green Day “fancy sauce” indeed, as does this whole album. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with this album and can’t wait to listen to it more! It’s so great to be a fan of this band right now!5 points
