I know, I was bummed when the host started wrapping it up and there was still 45 minutes left to the episode. It was a great chat, really relaxed, a lot of new stories and insights. This is why I wanted him to do more podcasts. So much better than an interview with a radio station or magazine9 points

between this, the NYE performance, release parties, new single dropping, rolling stone review… my heart can’t take it 🥹 these are the times we dream about!9 points

The album version mix is much better! I appreciate the bass being louder, the drum mix different, and the background vocals/harmonies in the final chorus.7 points

That was a fantastic interview! Billie’s insanely good memory and great storytelling abilities make listens like this so fun. Loved hearing about his family, his dad driving advice, and finally learning why he’s obsessed with bottle rockets. 😂 Also really loved the “fuck yeah” to if his life is better sober. 🥹 Good stuff all around. (One nitpick is that Billie started to talk about the Dilemma video in the beginning and Dax changed the subject and I really wish he didn’t lol.)7 points

In OEB final version the tambourine and handclaps were removed Some vocals are overdubbed too7 points

To say I feel lucky is an understatement; I feel like I stepped into the alternate reality of what I hoped the album cycle after RevRad would be like!7 points

I believe it was in August of 2020 that Michael Imperioli (Christopher in The Sopranos) revealed that James Gandolfini (who played Tony Soprano) was a huge Green Day fan and would listen to Dookie in his trailer, even naming his dog Dookie and using it in his email address. Depending on when this song was written, I wonder if this revelation inspired the song in some part. Billie mentioned this in the new Armchair Podcast episode so it must have been something that stuck with him/the band.6 points

Really cool interview. Dax either loves Green Day or did a lot of research before the interview (probably a bit of both), his knowledge was so much better than the standard interviewer. As an Irish person really cool to hear them talk so fondly of Shane McGowan and Sinead O'Connor, who both passed away very recently.6 points

To those who died on the hill that the leaked OEB was a demo and argued with me relentlessly when I said it was for sure a studio recording: 'GET ON YOUR KNEES WHEN YOU ARE KISSING MY RING' 🖕😆6 points

For anybody confused, this song is a tribute to the 1972 film ‘The Godfather.’5 points

Looking back at having FOA, Ready, Fire, Aim, Oh Yeah and Meet Me On The Roof as our first four singles last time, and now having these four singles to compare, the difference in quality my god5 points

That was such a great listen! Damn I wish that went for 2 hours5 points

@Karol Oliveira I totally agree. We’ve heard pieces of how Billie and Adrienne first got together before, but this was the most complete version I’ve ever heard of when they first met up through being newly married. She seems like a really awesome (and clearly very patient and loyal) person, and it’s sweet how he still talks about her so adoringly. The fact that Billie has such a strong marriage, friendships, relationship to his kids, etc. is really admirable to me, because to me it just shows he’s got his priorities straight despite his struggles and busy lifestyle.4 points

Great podcast! It’s not one I’ve heard before so went from “oh my god, I can’t believe this two hours long, that’s amazing” to “shit, that’s Billie finished”. As @stories and songs said, great to hear him speaking more at length about growing up, his mum, Adrienne, Project Chimps etc. They covered lots of topics but would have liked to hear more about Saviors and the videos and less from the guy. He started to ask about writers block, inspiration etc but they kind of went off in another direction. Great photos accompanying it too.4 points

I’m sorry that I’m missing out on the giveaways, the meetups and the party atmosphere by not being able to make this but on the other hand I really would prefer a first listen with headphones on my own so it’s a mixed bag of feelings for me. Some FOMO sure but I may stay away from here from the 13th because I don’t want to read a week of thoughts and opinions before I get to hear the album. It’s weird now because there will be a large amount of fans who will have heard it a week before another large amount of fans so we’ll be kind of divided after the 13th.4 points

I‘m fine with the song. Like you said, its better than most of FOAM. And even if its the weakest song so far, their „standard“ is still outstanding and I‘m sure there will be much better songs as deep cuts. personally I found „Look ma“ ad the „weakest“ song but weak is too much, I love this song and all the songs thats been released so far. Rob didn‘t lie when he asked Billie to make Rock‘n‘Roll history. Even if the album doesn‘t perform the charts, they‘re building up their legacy and putting out amazing records after so many years. I‘m glad to call Green Day my favorite Band4 points

The podcast is out now! Billie Joe Armstrong - Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard 'Billie Joe Armstrong (Saviors, American Idiot, Dookie) is a musician and lead vocalist of the rock band Green Day. Billie joins the Armchair Expert to discuss what it’s like to have a brother 20 years older than him, the evolution of punk music, and his songwriting process. Billie and Dax talk about what it’s like to move into a big city from a small town, what it’s like to be in love at a young age, and where the name Green Day came from. Billie explains what his experiences with addiction have been, how his wife started a chimp sanctuary, and why the band wanted to produce their latest album in England.'4 points

Do these people realize that they’re doing free promotion for the band? All this does is create attention and push streaming numbers, which is actually great for Green Day.4 points

Is it me or the bass stand out more in the teaser? Or is it just the mix?4 points

I just feel the need to say that Billie pissing off conservatives is extremely sexy to me. 😂4 points

I love this song lol. I don’t really hear it being that similar to the Pink song (I get the comparison, but they’re quite distinct to me) and I think it’s really catchy and fun. It reminds me of Say Goodbye, which I love, but maybe people also don’t like that song lol? 😂4 points

I don't know which leak you heard, but the actual one was a fully finished high quality recording of the song.4 points

I'm only a half hour or so in, and I am honestly STUNNED at the lack of "yknows." He sounded really comfortable and not bored. It was nice to hear.3 points

Really enjoyed it. I could listen to him for hours, love his voice and the interview partner were also great3 points

Great podcast although the length of the episode deceived me into thinking it'd be 2 hours of Billie talking. I love when Billie talks about Adrienne and he was super sweet on this. Also, it makes me reflect on how hard this relationship must have been for her at times since the beginning. I imagine her parents questioning her something like "you've been in California for three weeks and now you say that you're gonna marry this guy that's dropped out high school and it's in a band?". And then there's a kid, she goes into mother mode, stops drinking, Billie's away on tour; when he's home, he goes out and gets drunk. And there's 2012 and rehab where Billie said he once drank so much he slept in a park in NYC. I mean, with little that I know of this relationship, I imagine it would be tough keep on going. But I know even less the good reasons that makes them to be together 30 years later and Billie talking so sweetly about her and still writing songs about her are a few indications there's a really good foundation in their marriage. Of course, this is all speculation on my part after listening to this interview. Wish he talked more about stories behind some other songs though.3 points

Just imagine if we would’ve got the leak, rn we were talking how heavy the song is and how happy we were bc no handclaps on any of the songs we’ve heard so far. I still think is a very good song that mediatically could do good. We are not even the 5% of their target.3 points
-
Same but not damaged by some kind of strange eq'ing and compression due probably to a conversion. The other one was the same with some frequency - especially lows - cutted. It was so damaged that some things like back vocals got buried and some elements like handclaps were more prominent. It's a good song, but I'm sure it's gonna be a banger live 👊👊👊3 points
-
I hope they did not decide to put out this singles because they‘re the best on the album in their opinion. I hope there is more load in the gun.3 points
-
Not to be a party pooper but I wasn’t a fan of the leaked version and am honestly disappointed that it’s on Saviors. Production aside, I have to put it in the ‘I Don’t Know What This Song Is About’ bucket. I feel like Take the Money and Crawl was the same idea with better execution.3 points

I’m so looking forward to this! I like having a first listen on my own as well as a lot of you, but I feel like this is a truly unique experience that will be exciting and who knows if it will ever happen again! I’ll be heading to one after work so hopefully it’s not too crazy and I can get in! Maybe I’ll run into some of you at the Wicker Park locations in Chicago!3 points

Just out early because since this single isn't as serious as the others, they made it release 12AM for all timezones. So Australians get lucky with Timezones again (like me). Tried uploading it, it's still protected. It is the same but it sounds way cleaner and the vocals have more clarity I think. wait hang on, I think they got rid of the hand claps LOL Yep they did, if you have the original leak yourself you'll hear claps at the "bada bing bada bing" part, doesn't exist anymore.3 points
-
It an ear worm alright, but I agree probably the weakest of what we've heard from the album so far. Something about it gives off FOAMF-era vibes and nobody wants that. Still better than 90% of that album though.3 points

To go or not to go! A Dilemma if ever there was one. 😂 I’ll need to do a drive of about 75 mins each way to get there and it looks like a pretty small record shop so not sure how many they’ll have room for. I couldn’t blame them if they gave slots to actual customers and I’ve never been. So while I would like to go, I’ll cope if I can’t. I still don’t know how good a listen you will get but am sure it will be fun.3 points

I think there’s two groups here. One that is separate from Maga but fear the censorship that we are currently seeing and then theres maga that want to ban the censorship of hate speech pretty much. We live in a modern day cold war and the flow of information is as corrupt as ever. There is an attack on free speech happening right now but it has nothing to do with the way you lean politically. Trudeau tries to diminish certain kinds of speech to gain some false upper hand in his debates. It’s nitpicking at specifics of words and playing word games to get away from talking about results and execution. Now companies are jumping on board and using it as an excuse to fire people without severance pay. But keep in mind, these examples are ones where hate speech is not present. Hate speech is an abuse of the freedom of speech. You have the freedom to speak it but that does not come in conjunction with the freedom to avoid consequences. Hate comes from fear. MAGA supporters are mostly entitled people who believe that they should get the lion’s share without being a lion. The root cause is that we have returned to the extreme principles of politics similar to what was seen in the 30s and 40s. The left are aggressively forming communist backings while the right is forming aggressive fascist support. Ironically, they are one of the same. Lefties tell righties they cant say something and the righties come back telling them actually you cant do or say this other thing. For the working class majority we need to focus on results and execution and hold our politicians to it. To each individual that may be different, it may be withholding your vote, voting lesser of the evils or voting independent etc. Just dont be afraid to confront these fuckers. I confronted a Conservative house of commons rep this summer and many of the things I challenged them on made it to discussions in the house itself. Many are hard working middle class folks that want the government to use their tax paying dollars effectively. Many are pro immigration for the overall benefits of public services and the economy as a whole. Green Day themselves are more conservative than they brand themselves as. They are an entity themselves that need to pull a profit to provide the service to us.3 points

Another interesting part is when he talks about of them always wanting to evolve, asking themselves what was going to be their "Tommy" or "Sgt. Pepper". They were always set to make American Idiot eventually and I'm glad it wasn't rushed and they had time to mature. Also, it makes me wonder the struggle of the three of them in the 90's in the punk scene 'cause clearly they found a sense of belonging in the scene and got pretty upset when they were essencially banned but at the same time they wanted to branch out their music. That must've been a real internal struggle for some time.2 points

No knowledge except for the fact that I have seen the Godfather 1000 times and it’s almost like he is writing while watching. 😂 I’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse. Get on your knees while you kiss my ring. The movie came out in 1972 which was supposed to be the name of the album. Just seems obvious to me.2 points

Let me tell you something, okay? I've always said everyone's entitled to their opinion, even if they don't agree with me. That's what makes America great! So if Billie Joe doesn't support the MAGA agenda, that's his choice. We're all entitled to our views. And as for those who don't agree, well, they can scream all they want – that's the beauty of democracy. But let me tell you, America is strong, and we'll keep moving forward! You know, folks, I've always said we should focus on positivity and unity. Going after Green Day with hate, that's not the MAGA way. Let's rise above it, okay? We're bigger and better than that. Don't let them drag you into that typical leftist behavior. We're about making America great again, and that means bringing people together, not tearing them apart.2 points
