  1. It might seem like old news to us to hear Billie take a stab at Trumpism, but it is really no small deal to make that kind of statement on one of the most widely watched programs of the year (and clearly, a whole lot of people had no idea Green Day felt that way). Few artists today would do that. And no, of course the country’s vast political issues can’t be blamed on a singular person or group, and Billie has talked enough about it for us to know he also realizes this (don’t assume because anyone hates Trump that they are necessarily pleased with the Democrats rn either lol). But Trump and his following stand for hatred and bigotry and continue to hurt a lot of people in a major way (see: The Supreme Court built under Trump we’re now stuck with for the next several decades). I am extremely proud of how loudly Green Day disavows that shit and invites anyone who believes in those “values” to see themselves out. I found Green Day when I was 11 and they were the first band that made me realize music could be important. The passion this band has for the issues that matter to them single-handedly got me into activism as a kid and ultimately led to what’s now my career, so. Maybe the “MAGA agenda” line seems like a silly little thing, but I bet it also made a lot of people feel a tiny bit seen and maybe even made some pre-teens perk up.

  2. The altered lyric is so Green Day that I didn't expect it to get such a strong reaction. Where have these people been for the last 2 decades? Its like when the alt right tried to claim Depeche Mode and the band was like um.... Have you heard our music?

  3. Dear me, we’ve gone from complaining about the sound for the Amazon performance to complaining the NYE performance was too perfect! The comments on Twitter from some people are just appalling. No wonder it feels like society is falling apart when people feel free to say such horrible things.

  5. Billie playing Coverups gigs just hits different for me. It’s really cool to see him more relaxed from his frontman mode and just jamming. I could just watch him play guitar off to the side for like…ever. 😍 And his hair was SO FLOOFY last night.

  6. A good show, a new record in 18 days and a bunch of snowflakes whining for a stunt that BJ does on every show? This year started like fire!

  9. I’m one of the few who really loved the leaked version of OEB so I’m super excited to hear the final version! I don’t expect it to sound much different and I don’t want it to, I like it how it is!

  10. It's surprising that this won't be permanent. Pearl Jam, Eminem, U2, Tom Petty, and Ozzy have stations. I think Green Day deserves one!

  11. I’d like to fangirl for a second about Adrienne. It feels like ages since we’ve seen her at a public event, she looks amazing and it’s lovely to see her with Billie ❤️

  13. Hope Dilemma gets more radio play with the NYE performance. It really is a catchy one so I'd assume radio would like it.

  15. It’s absolutely beyond me that conservatives and right-wing activists and their supporters all around the world actually believe that they’re somehow part of a revolutionary anti-establishment movement. These people are obsessed with free speech and constantly claim that the mainstream media is taking this right away, yet they can’t deal with even the slightest criticism. So good job, Green Day. I’d actually be disappointed if these people supported the band.

  16. Billie changed that lyric along time ago. He played it this way in the promo for Father of All on The Howard Stern show. That was more 4 years ago and I'm sure he changed it long before that. It's puzzling that it's gained this amount of attention. Any publicity is good publicity I guess.

  19. I felt so bad that their mix for the Amazon performance was so shitty, and beyond their control. That’s definitely not the impression I want them to make while trying to launch a new album when we know how amazing they are live. I’d MUCH rather their performance be cleaned up to sound a little extra good (and to my ear, it’s not like they were just playing the studio version, they just had some playback behind them at times, which a whole lot of musicians do, esp for a TV performance) than the opposite. They’re an awesome live band and deserve to be well-represented at this kind of stuff.

  21. Im a republican and a Trump supporter and I’m not mad about Green Day saying what they said….they are still my favorite band ever and that will never change they have the right to say whatever they want. So people are way overreacting but I don’t think it’s fair to say (republicans/democrats/trump fans/trump haters are bad) the world isn’t blank and white you can have different beliefs then your favorite band…either way glad they are getting traction they sounded great as normal….anyone have the coverups set list?

  23. https://www.newsweek.com/green-day-maga-trump-new-years-eve-1856855 Comments in the article from the snowflakes 😂: "Green Day is now Green Done. Don't they understand it's no longer Hollywood Cool with the rest of us to take potshots at DJT? We the people are speaking!" wrote one person on Truth Social. While a second added: "I now hate Green Day what a shame." "LAME," replied one person to a video of the changed lyric. 😂😂😂

  24. This is off topic but I gotta say aside from Green Day, I really liked Janelle Monae's performances so much I checked out their newest album. I like it! Monae's always been on my radar but I never really stopped and listened to any of their stuff. I love the vibe of the album. It's I'm hot, I'm queer, I'm free vibes.

  25. I think the reason for the bigger reaction is twofold: one, not as many people saw the AMAs as they do the Dick Clark NYE on ABC. And second, I think we’re even more divided and the right are even more hostile and extreme culturally than they were back in 2016 when Billie did that awards show. Stuff doesn’t fly under the radar anymore like it did 5-10 years ago

  26. The people bitching about Green Day going "woke" or whatever about as ridiculous as the people complaining about Rage Against the Machine going "woke". Of course the band that brought Pansy Division out on tour with them all the way back in the 90s (right after they got big) is gonna be more left-leaning. Also, Billie's been saying "I'm not part of a MAGA agenda" during live performances for a while now. I also don't remember these people getting nearly as angry when he was saying "No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA" during Trump's presidency. Don't get me wrong, some people reacted poorly to that, but it wasn't quite on this level. Anyway, I hope the new album goes to number one on Billboard just to spite these people.

  27. I love seeing people complaining where people are turned off by Billies lyric changes over the years to protest its like have they heard American Idiot duh?

  28. If it is pretty much the same anyways (which to me would make sense), it'll be good to hear it in something that isn't pretty crappy MP3 quality

  32. If Elon is reacting to Green Day they must be doing something right. He's out promoting the right to "free speech" and when a band uses that right he denounces it. 🤣

  33. Actually crazy, you go to this persons profile and it is literally nothing but negative comments and being a complete downer. Like jeez way to bring negative vibes like every time you come here 😭, first time I'm having to use the "ignore" button on this site. Anyways on topic, I think this is really sweet that the band even gives the opportunity to put forward something like this, especially with all these little fun facts between some songs. Although I wish it wasn't just a USA thing, oh well! Good to hear all these deep cuts get their deserved playtime

  35. I wouldn't care one way or the other if Green Day said "fuck Barack Obama", honestly. Same if they spoke out about Joe Biden. It's entirely possible to be anti-MAGA as well as critical of Obama/Biden, lol. To me the conservative outrage about Green Day's politics is about as ridiculous as when people were shocked to learn about Rage Against the Machine's very obvious political beliefs (that band isn't exactly subtle). It's just really really absurdly funny.

  36. Do you guys remember when Billie sang with morrisey and a good chunk of you had meltdown?…. No?…. Me either… …or when they recorded bill mahers theme song? the point I’m making is the both sides get defensive about shit. The left gets just as defensive over Barack Obama or Ruth Bader Ginsberg and shit as much as conservatives get defensive over Donald fucking Trump. It’s not shocking for people to show retaliation to political opinions anymore unfortunately. If Billie came out and yelled “fuck Barack Obama” my guess is that an equally fair amount of people would be just as upset and be calling for the band to be cancelled.

  37. Subscribing to either side (Republican or Democrat) is pro-establishment. If you identify with either label, you are part of the crony establishment. Just being Democrat is popular now doesn’t mean that group is anti-establishment. Even in recent history, they are part of the problematic system.

  42. I know it’s off topic but I love how the maga guy always bubbles to the top in every political discussion these days…they just can’t help themselves it’s strange enough for people to rally around any politician that hard…but, trump? the dude wasn’t even successful in his term he won the office on a technicality, sucked at it, shit-posted on twitter for 4 years, incited unrest through his rhetoric, and continues to whine like a little bitch since he was rejected THAT’S the leader of your “movement” ? THAT’s the guy you think will solve your problems ? GTFOH

  46. The MAGA philosophy has forever emboldened idiots and changed the landscape of the country for the angrier and more violent, so yeah, bitching about is still warranted. None of it went away and not being part of that shit is something everyone should be loud about.

  47. Yes! Ignoring people like this is the best thing. They’re so boring and acknowledging with them is a waste of time and energy. The radio channel is so good! It’s the little stories and intros that are so great! I love the band hosting the show. Plus they’re playing other artists too and introducing the songs it’s so good. I didn’t know Sirius XM wasn’t available all over the world. It’s an internet streaming service. I really wish this was a permanent channel and the subscription service could be purchased in other countries. How can we make this happen? Permanent Green Day channel 107 on Sirius XM would be great.
