  1. I think it’s also worth noting that Taylor is doing what Green Day was doing when they were her age (34). A lot of artists peak in their 20s and 30s in terms of popularity and know to strike while the iron is hot. Green Day knew to ride that wave for all it was worth when American Idiot came out — they were young enough to be up for it and in-demand enough to do whatever the hell they wanted. They’re still relatively young, but most musicians do not maintain that same level of exposure forever as they had in their 30s — it’s not healthy long-term, both physically and mentally, and it’s also probably thought of as not necessary once people reach that point in their careers because they’re established as “legacy acts” or whatever and will never fade into obscurity at this point because they’re so well-known, regardless of how much or little they take advantage of PR. When Taylor is 51, she probably will change her touring and promo approach, too. Even if Green Day was doing the total media blitz Taylor has been doing today, rock would still not be as relevant of a genre as it was in 2004. That’s beyond their control.

  2. @lucky_stars I turned 30 this year and so many things I got into as a kid — music, movies, etc. — are celebrating 20, 25 year anniversaries and it’s really freaking me out lol. I think the pandemic also made time feel like it just stopped for a while, so I’d very easily believe that RevRad just happened like, two years ago. My memories of the AI era are still so vivid to me, too, which makes it even trippier that it was 20 years ago. Now I understand why people my parents age were still listening to 80s music when I was young, lol. I’m the same way now with my early 00s music! 😂 It’s crazy to me they were only 32 when AI came out, and had already experienced so much success before that. The achievements they had just 10 years apart, and only in their early 30s, is nuts.

  3. I agree with what he said but that was not the time or place for it. And it single handedly derailed any chance for success the trilogy had. Also why is this being discussed in the Saviors thread? 😆

  4. It’s weird how rock releases just happen in a vacuum now. Green Day is absolutely one of the more commercially successful rock bands at the moment (along with people like Blink, Foo Fighters, etc.), but it’s like the wider media completely ignores this genre. The Grammys don’t even air rock categories on TV anymore. It’s been years and years since a rock band played the Super Bowl. It’s just strange when I compare it to the period when I first got into Green Day and rock was absolutely everywhere. I wonder how long it’ll be until culture swings back around to that.

  5. I can‘t really decide between American Dream and Dilemma. Both are excellent (Look ma is also awesome but my least favorite of them). I chose American Dream because of the first excitement for the album. But really hard to pick. Probably won‘t be easier after album release 😂

  6. We’re going way off topic, but I know the answer here and didn’t want to leave you hanging lol. It’s considered not as successful as some of her other albums for a few reasons — the singles didn’t perform as well as usual for her (No. 2 instead of No. 1), which is by no stretch a failure obviously, but also wasn’t ideal for her when she was so popular during her previous album cycle, Reputation. Her Reputation album also sold better than Lover. In general, the fan response was a bit lukewarm to Lover compared to her other albums (the first two singles she released were not well-liked at all). And finally, her tour was cancelled due to COVID, so that whole promo cycle died early. In short, it was by no means unsuccessful, but for a minute there it seemed like maybe her star was dimming a tiny bit. I don’t want to refer to the pandemic as a “blessing in disguise,” but in her case, I think she was extremely fortunate to get another crack at taking a new direction with her sound and brand so soon after Lover released (she released folklore and evermore the next year), because that totally changed the trajectory of her career. Anyway, Green Day and Taylor are not comparable artists other than the fact that they were both in my Spotify Wrapped. 😂

  7. It wasn’t “dismissed” as drunken behavior, it was drunken behavior lol. He wasn’t in his right mind so whatever point he had doesn’t mean very much. And I disagree that people who work in the industry who have heard the album are “holding it over us,” they’re just being honest

  8. I was 9 when I got into Green Day and they've been my favorite band since 1996 and I'm sure a lot of people on here got into GD when they were young. You're acting like Green Day is some hardcore band but they're still pretty poppy even though they have some faster songs and heavy guitars. Also, there's plenty adults who love Taylor Swift, and they have every right to, why do you care so much? Also, I'm sure on albums like American Idiot and 21st Century, and maybe even Saviors it seems like the producers are guiding the band through the writing process. The producers aren't co-writers, but they have input on how the songs come out

  9. 100% not. Amazon also used non-GD music in the trailer for the show they played.

  10. I’m the swiftie yet you’re quoting shit that looks like Chinese to me? I asked a direct question about that other album that was 2x platinum and beat some records out. I want a direct answer as to how that was considered an album that tanked. It’s a legit question and I was actually hoping for a legitimate answer as I don’t participate in pop culture or social media. I’m pretty much not on the grid in that sense, so my curiosity is coming from that place. So once again how did that album tank? What’s the missing piece there? Agree 100% I’m highlighting their age plays a part in some of the results. They’re doing a slow and steady wins the race approach now. and honestly they dont need to push that hard anymore, they have a massive legacy that speaks for itself. But also it may be hard to make a new gen of fans if you aren’t visible. The band is a different band now. It isn’t 2004 anymore. Solid response I appreciated your view here.

  11. As a fan originating from the AI era, I can only now appreciate how little time there was between Dookie and AI. 10 years ago the boys were finishing up the trilogy tour… which doesn’t seem like that long ago to me? Crazy to think that’s the same time difference between Dookie and AI. 😱 And not to beat a dead horse, but I also can’t believe AI is going to be 20 years old. I remember when I was a “new” fan or a “bandwagoner” as MANY on this forum used to point out 😂 I feel old as fuck now.

  13. Ok two people now on here claiming they already heard saviors and I think it's pretty crappy to hold it over everybody else's heads like they're the fkn chosen ones either shut this talk down or suspend them until release because it's annoying how they chime in with oh yeah the album is really good and crap bunch of hoarder grinches

  14. Corporates have no dedication. If teenagers start listening to punk tomorrow and all have mohawks the corporates will have no problem dropping the current narrative to chase down the next. Obviously it’s unlikely but at some point there will be a counter culture that rises. We just need to remain open minded to the fact it won’t be the one from the 1990s

  15. Overrated? Downvote? Please log off, touch grass! How could it possibly be overrated, that doesn't even make sense. Naturally, there is going to be a lot of hype around an anniversary for a highly acclaimed, incredibly culturally relevant album. That doesn't take away from the fact that the boys are doing a good job of properly hyping the album up without overdoing it. The singles, the videos & promotional cycle have been fairly solid thus far. I've seen people that haven't been stoken in Green Day in years get genuinely excited & I think they are right to do so. The singles bring to mind more of what people generally prefer from Green Day & I don't think that makes any of this not-even-out album overrated. If anything, a lot of people are cautiously optimistic about the album, which seems like the opposite of anything being overrated. I don't think that term even applies in this situation, tbh. Seems like an unnecessarily pessimistic point of view to take.

  16. Enough bashing of Taylor Swift, this isn't the forum for that. Back to Saviors, I am feeling myself getting more and more antsy for this album. Based on everything I've heard, so far my most anticipated songs are Father to a Son and Coma City. I am so used to this quick release of songs in the last few months, I can't handle waiting a few more weeks where we probably won't get anything new from the album

  21. Wait someone here has Saviors? Taylor shit is a corporate plant she has alot of help selling her generic ass music she grew up in a rich household her father bought her record contract he basically bought out big machine records in Tennessee who was going bankrupt at the time the contract stated his daughter would be the main priority on their roster and the rest is mainstream history there's absolutely no struggle or hard times like green day

  23. 2024 album schedule is starting to fill up. I'm sure some mega star or bigger band will release something, but right now they look like they'll rule the earlier part of the year. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_2024_albums

  24. What gets me is how quickly the new songs fall off my local radio stations, despite what the airplay charts say. They played TADIKM here when it came out (which was more than they did for FOAM) but since that first week or two I haven’t heard it again. By contrast, I’m sick to death of hearing Atomic City by U2 and the Stones’ Angry still, newish songs that still get played, but today I heard those and then they said Green Day (!) - and it was Basket Case. Back to playing nothing but Dookie and AI songs.

  25. Theres definitely different fan segments. I see the following: Early Years fans: Anyone who saw them supporting Kerplunk and earlier fall into this group. Most likely to ride the Kerplunk-Insomniac wave and then dropped off from there. Dookie fans: Rode the wave from Dookie-Nimrod or Dookie-Warning. A large portion dropped off between Warning-AI. AI fans: I fall into this category. Some of us heard Green Day but were too young at the time to understand the significance until AI dropped. We were inclined to go into the back catalog and learn all the classics but at the same time fell in love with the band at a turning point and were open minded to the albums to follow. The trilogy was a drop off point for some of these fans? The other major drop off was foam. Post AI fans: You were spoon fed by the rest of us above but you have good taste. The upcoming album has been marked as one of the most anticipated rock albums for 2024. So hype is there but as you said the rock world is silenced when it comes to the masses. However, Spotify actually shows a larger market for heavy music than pop music. It’s not going to be overblown like Dookie or AI but it will be a well respected album in the genre. So if someone seeks this music it will be easy to find.

  26. I hate when most of the fans are enjoying something and someone appears saying "this is overrated". let people enjoy what they like and shut up

  27. I gotta co-sign this great post but I think GD might be the only band that has different “genres” of fans. Like the hardcore punks may like all of it or maybe just the Dookies and Kerplunks and some random others and would probably be the old schoolers listening to Gilman on a cassette. When you’re one that’s been watching since the van tour (raises hand) you’re probably not reppin Internet forums because we’re old fucks. I just enjoy it myself. Then there is the 2004 which feels soooo long ago but was only 10 years after dookie and like 19 years ago. They like the more medolic stuff which I’m also one of. It’s funny when you said “get stoked in GD in Years” getting excited and I was like yeah they are. Then I realized that’s me. Lol But still to this day the best times I ever had at concerts was the entirety of The Longshot minus 1 show and it was the most fun I’ve had on a leg. Im almost exactly Billies age so I keep saying if that old fuck can do it, I can too. But he’s making more than me. Haha. But it’s come to my attention that GD had a segregated (by musical taste) fan base. Not race to be clear. Also, singles are a promotion. They “release” them formulary to the radio first, then go buy the single, if you have a couple good singles, all the better, B side to see how well unsure songs track and then release album. Or when you know people will buy in blinks “buying aka clicking” because the clicks are how the measure. Taylor Swift releases her whole album at once so she can occupy every spot in the billboard at once, which nobody has even come close to doing. personally I’m all for that but GD knows and Billie loves people to love the songs while he plays. It’s a phobia. So he would never do that I think. The 3 singles released, for me 2 are straight out fucking bangers and 1 is fucking awesome. And if haven’t heard the rest myself I wouldn’t be as excited as I am. I really can’t help myself but it’s been a while since I was here. It’s a great one. Listen listen and then when you’re love you reali.d why you do. That’s what is so great about GD. Need skin and mics to fall in love. GD shows are good or bad, different or the same not by what they just played but how they played it that night. My dream of them ever going freestyle without a couple of audibles, I can deal with after all these years. I can’t think of something you should care less about in this wonderful world! Just walking outside is 500,000,000 more upsetting than getting a downvote or less? Wait what. You get it. If anyone wants to ever downvote (whatever that means) suffoKate btw is a fucking awesome name Kate, downvote me instead.

  29. That would have been more generic. A bridge part between chorus and second verse is something that we don't hear very often.

  30. Dilemma for the fact that it truly is a new single. It fits in with the classic Green Day singles well but stands strong on its own. There’s elements in the song that could make it sit well next to singles from Nimrod and Warning and it fits with anything AI and post AI.

  31. Hopefully it doesn't leak. If the album leaks it would mean that all the members of Green Day have a really bad day. Imagine you are happy to give someone their birthday present and by accident the person finds out what it is in advance. That's a bad feeling.
