  1. Overrated? Downvote? Please log off, touch grass! How could it possibly be overrated, that doesn't even make sense. Naturally, there is going to be a lot of hype around an anniversary for a highly acclaimed, incredibly culturally relevant album. That doesn't take away from the fact that the boys are doing a good job of properly hyping the album up without overdoing it. The singles, the videos & promotional cycle have been fairly solid thus far. I've seen people that haven't been stoken in Green Day in years get genuinely excited & I think they are right to do so. The singles bring to mind more of what people generally prefer from Green Day & I don't think that makes any of this not-even-out album overrated. If anything, a lot of people are cautiously optimistic about the album, which seems like the opposite of anything being overrated. I don't think that term even applies in this situation, tbh. Seems like an unnecessarily pessimistic point of view to take.

  2. I love all three songs but TADIKM is still my favorite. I’m just a sucker for political Green Day with AI/21CBD vibes. This song just doesn’t get old for me. LMNB is probably no. 2 and Dilemma is no. 3. I know that it’s a very emotional and personal song for the band, but for me personally, it doesn’t necessarily stand out. I really like it, but in my opinion, it’s far away from being their best song or even single since AI. There are just so many songs on 21CBD, the trilogy and RevRad that I find more exciting. But that’s just my personal preference. I still really like the song and I’m happy that the three singles we got so far are all getting a positive reception. That’s a great sign for the upcoming album.

  3. Theres definitely different fan segments. I see the following: Early Years fans: Anyone who saw them supporting Kerplunk and earlier fall into this group. Most likely to ride the Kerplunk-Insomniac wave and then dropped off from there. Dookie fans: Rode the wave from Dookie-Nimrod or Dookie-Warning. A large portion dropped off between Warning-AI. AI fans: I fall into this category. Some of us heard Green Day but were too young at the time to understand the significance until AI dropped. We were inclined to go into the back catalog and learn all the classics but at the same time fell in love with the band at a turning point and were open minded to the albums to follow. The trilogy was a drop off point for some of these fans? The other major drop off was foam. Post AI fans: You were spoon fed by the rest of us above but you have good taste. The upcoming album has been marked as one of the most anticipated rock albums for 2024. So hype is there but as you said the rock world is silenced when it comes to the masses. However, Spotify actually shows a larger market for heavy music than pop music. It’s not going to be overblown like Dookie or AI but it will be a well respected album in the genre. So if someone seeks this music it will be easy to find.

  4. I think if people are pumped about the singles (like me!), they have every right to be excited about the album and thus it is appropriately “rated” at this time. There’s great energy around this promo cycle, it’s been fun to see the guys out and about, and the singles are incredibly strong. I fully expect this album to be a high-ranked GD album for me based on all the information we have about it. I love the concept of bridging the gap between their most popular albums by releasing a collection of songs that reflect their different sounds from over the years, and I believe it’ll really be that type of album because the singles have been diverse while remaining distinctly Green Day.

  5. I truly love all three, but Dilemma is just something special. It really stands out in sound for me (I lovvvvve heavier Green Day) and in terms of lyrical content, it honestly kinda floors me that this song even exists. It’s so raw and emotional in how it gives a brutally honest look at what addiction feels like. (That said, I think it’s among their best songs since AI, not the best because I’m a huge fan of 21CB and RevRad).

  6. I gotta co-sign this great post but I think GD might be the only band that has different “genres” of fans. Like the hardcore punks may like all of it or maybe just the Dookies and Kerplunks and some random others and would probably be the old schoolers listening to Gilman on a cassette. When you’re one that’s been watching since the van tour (raises hand) you’re probably not reppin Internet forums because we’re old fucks. I just enjoy it myself. Then there is the 2004 which feels soooo long ago but was only 10 years after dookie and like 19 years ago. They like the more medolic stuff which I’m also one of. It’s funny when you said “get stoked in GD in Years” getting excited and I was like yeah they are. Then I realized that’s me. Lol But still to this day the best times I ever had at concerts was the entirety of The Longshot minus 1 show and it was the most fun I’ve had on a leg. Im almost exactly Billies age so I keep saying if that old fuck can do it, I can too. But he’s making more than me. Haha. But it’s come to my attention that GD had a segregated (by musical taste) fan base. Not race to be clear. Also, singles are a promotion. They “release” them formulary to the radio first, then go buy the single, if you have a couple good singles, all the better, B side to see how well unsure songs track and then release album. Or when you know people will buy in blinks “buying aka clicking” because the clicks are how the measure. Taylor Swift releases her whole album at once so she can occupy every spot in the billboard at once, which nobody has even come close to doing. personally I’m all for that but GD knows and Billie loves people to love the songs while he plays. It’s a phobia. So he would never do that I think. The 3 singles released, for me 2 are straight out fucking bangers and 1 is fucking awesome. And if haven’t heard the rest myself I wouldn’t be as excited as I am. I really can’t help myself but it’s been a while since I was here. It’s a great one. Listen listen and then when you’re love you reali.d why you do. That’s what is so great about GD. Need skin and mics to fall in love. GD shows are good or bad, different or the same not by what they just played but how they played it that night. My dream of them ever going freestyle without a couple of audibles, I can deal with after all these years. I can’t think of something you should care less about in this wonderful world! Just walking outside is 500,000,000 more upsetting than getting a downvote or less? Wait what. You get it. If anyone wants to ever downvote (whatever that means) suffoKate btw is a fucking awesome name Kate, downvote me instead.

  7. Wish they would play this one again murder city was definitely the letter bomb of 21st century breakdown

  8. That would have been more generic. A bridge part between chorus and second verse is something that we don't hear very often.

  9. What gets me is how quickly the new songs fall off my local radio stations, despite what the airplay charts say. They played TADIKM here when it came out (which was more than they did for FOAM) but since that first week or two I haven’t heard it again. By contrast, I’m sick to death of hearing Atomic City by U2 and the Stones’ Angry still, newish songs that still get played, but today I heard those and then they said Green Day (!) - and it was Basket Case. Back to playing nothing but Dookie and AI songs.

  10. I know that probably is the excitement of the moment and don’t get me wrong I Love Dilemma but then saying that is the best song post AI is a little precipitated and unfair considering that in the middle we have 21cb(album) and BANG BANG! One of the best songs of gd career? Maybe. Not the best one post American idiot though.

  11. Really hard to pick, I went for TADIKM only cause it’s passing the test of time so well, every time I hear it, it just gives me everything I want from a GD song. That said the other two are up there. Dilemma is really an amazing track, it truly feels like the most sincere and passionate song they released in a while, and I feel very close to it, and Look ma is such a perfect modern take to classic GD, something I really missed from the band in a long time.

  12. To your credit, I do think the hype feels a bit more muted amongst the general public but I think that has more to do with the state of rock n' roll amongst the masses these days. It's just not the same landscape it once was. The quality of these tracks though? Great stuff, I'm super excited and any other self respecting GD fan likely is too. I think this album is destined to be more for the band and their core fanbase, which most of us here are. That being said, general appeal doesn't matter much to me other than the fact that other people are missing out on some choice tunes!

  13. Yeah idk. Maybe it's partially down to nostalgia but even though these singles are for sure better than FOAMF, I'm not into these tracks as much as I am for so many of their songs on basically every album from RevRad and earlier. I'm hoping the non-singles are more my preference like most of the FOAMF non-singles were (even if I still didn't consider them very good songs, they were better than the singles). Dilemma is probably my favourite here but I don't get why people think it's their best song since American Idiot. Like they have so many genuinely great songs from 21CB, the trilogy and RevRad that I would put over Dilemma personally. But everyone has their own opinions, of course. The song just doesn't stand out as much to me as it seems to for many other people

  14. Dilemma isn’t only the best single so far, but it’s the best song they’ve released since American Idiot. So, yeah.

  15. I honestly don't know which song to pick. And I think that's a good sign for the rest of the album!

  17. I hate when most of the fans are enjoying something and someone appears saying "this is overrated". let people enjoy what they like and shut up

  18. I think it’s fair to say it’s one of the better singles post 21cb. To stretch back to AI is a bit of a reach. 21 guns and KYE were massive singles for the band on 21cb. Even the Uno songs got massive airplay where I am. Kill The DJ even has a surprising amount of streams on Spotify. I think it’s second for the album as a whole. So even saying one of the best since the trilogy is more accurate imo.

  19. Dilemma, but i love the three so much. I have so much faith in this album

  20. quoting you here: Definitely significantly better than Dos, if nothing else. I quite enjoy the trilogy, always have, and I remember how much shit it got from fans when it came out. Then once FOAM came out I was like "Oh shitttttttt..........I bet all the trilogy haters are gonna be eating their words now, cause now this truly IS awful" LOL I guess that's what makes the world go round.......we all have different tastes. 🙂

  21. I agree here but u do think the american dream is killing me is timeless. It could apply to alot of times

  22. As usual I can't decide I love all three

  23. Dilemma for the fact that it truly is a new single. It fits in with the classic Green Day singles well but stands strong on its own. There’s elements in the song that could make it sit well next to singles from Nimrod and Warning and it fits with anything AI and post AI.

  26. Hopefully it doesn't leak. If the album leaks it would mean that all the members of Green Day have a really bad day. Imagine you are happy to give someone their birthday present and by accident the person finds out what it is in advance. That's a bad feeling.
