  4. Which is what made parts of FOAM so hard to enjoy for me. Even if he was writing from the perspective of his younger self, the fact that again he wasn’t in the healthiest place when he wrote those songs, kind of killed the carefree party vibe. You saw it coming earlier with The Longshot — those songs were all very melancholy, with lyrics about missing his party days, and he began drinking again soon after. He’s always very open about where he’s at emotionally when he’s writing, but all you can do is go along for the ride, trust he has a support system and wish him the best.

  5. Yeah, writing time doesn’t have anything to do when it was actually recorded. Both things we’ve heard about that song’s creation can be true at once. I’m REALLY pumped that they’re intending to play more off of Dookie and AI than normal as a celebration of those anniversaries. I think there’s a chance the Saviors Tour could give us a serious setlist shakeup for the first time in many years.

  6. @pacejunkie punk Same. I seem to remember us having some similar, concerned reactions at the time to some of the interviews surrounding FOAMF and how blasé Billie was acting toward his issues in favor of living out the party album vibe. It was really hard to hear. Now, with some perspective, I realize that since he was openly drinking at that time and didn’t intend to immediately stop, he could only admit to it and try to move on as though it was fine. He’s a public person whose personal struggles have been made public, and I’m sure that’s incredibly hard to navigate. Addiction is a bitch for anyone, and made even worse when people are watching your every move. In the moment, I was angry at how it was being handled because I was taken aback that the band was deliberately promoting the party lifestyle so hard, but now I have a lot of sympathy for him in that situation. As you said, all we can do is hope for the best and wish him well, because it’s something he’s always going to deal with. I’m happy that he appears so happy and healthy lately. The good vibes are back and I feel extremely grateful!

  8. Cool interview. It's just odd how the interviewer focused on Green Day's return to political themes years after American Idiot, as though they hadn't produced politically-charged music since 2004. Both 21st Century Breakdown and Revolution Radio are more politically oriented than American Idiot. And if we're talking about American Idiot "Part 2" in a broader sense – a rock opera, a character study, with political elements – 21st Century Breakdown once again already checks those boxes.

  9. Better late than never. Amazon listed all tracks when albums up for presale orders over month ago, and included album summary "Right from “The American Dream Is Killing Me” — the first single and opening track from Saviors, Green Day is sending out a fiery SOS for these troubled times. Amazingly, Saviors represents Green Day's 14th studio album, yet somehow this enduring power trio -- Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool & Mike Dirnt -- remain devoted to their defiant craft that has fueled their career-long destruction of every boundary bestowed on the genre, and landed 3 East Bay punks in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. So even as the band acknowledges its illustrious past — such as with the 30th Anniversary of their now classic Dookie album and the 20th Anniversary of American Idiot coming 2024 — Green Day remains firmly focused on the here and now. Saviors features 15 tracks, and from the aforementioned opening track, "The American Dream Is Killing Me" to the blissfully ironic “Look Ma, No Brains!" to the fittingly emotional track, "Father To A Son,” this is a deeply felt song cycle that provides the soundtrack for our world on fire – the one we deserve, and the one that we need. The album was recorded in both London and Los Angeles under the audacious ear and rock prowess of Green Day's longtime friend & collaborator, GRAMMY® Award-winning producer Rob Cavallo. Need a little inspiration to live on to fight the good fight another day? Fear not. Saviors is coming soon." Three songs mentioned, two already singles, so FTAS next?

  10. I'm sure I can speak on behalf of everyone to say, nice to see you back. Sorry you've been in a bad place of late. Hope your life gets better soon. Take good care of yourself. Everyone on here is special. ❤️ I think we're all rooting for 'Father To A Son' as next single. Are you listening GD.

  14. I think that from the interviews TADIKM was the last to be finished off, Billie had the idea started for a while and Rob really pushed for it to be on the album, and it was recorded last. sounds like a similar arc to Butch vig with horseshoes and handgrenades

  15. I don’t expect the average person to know, but I expect music journalists to know because it’s literally their job, particularly when you’re about to interview the band. I think the American Dream/American Idiot thing is what will cause every journo to ask if this is a sequel or similar thing so I’m sure they’re prepared to answer that question a lot. Personally I prefer an album that reflects a bit of everything they’ve done over thirty years to a rehash of one thing they’ve already done. I look forward to this album reflecting a range of styles like Nimrod versus something that’s all very samey like 21CB/Revrad

  16. He didn’t even seem aware that they released music in 2016. I wish we could get some actual fans asking questions sometimes.

  17. Now if only we could get Green Day merch AT Taco Bell. That would be beneficial to everyone. One weird thing about this - I hear some of the guys from The Network are employed at Taco Bell. Not sure if they are fast food workers or higher ups though.

  18. Let’s help get this to number 1 on alternative airplay and bump blink’s one more time off the top spot. Stream the song, share the song, request the song on the radio LETS GO’!!!! More #1 chart peaks more advertising and attention for the band and new music

  19. In my case, if Green Day hadn't collaborated with the Beat Saber, I might have ended up without a connection to them for the rest of my life, so thanks for that. If possible, I would love to see them release the DLC for SAVIORS. But I just think it was crazy to collaborate with Hooters in Japan when DOS was released😂 https://iflyer.tv/article/2012/11/12/green-day-hooters-dos/

  20. I noticed that too. I went and looked it up right when Billie said that. But it is interesting that he talks about playing Dookie in full every night, even though I personally wouldn't want that because ya know, there's 13 other albums to cover....but I'd totally understand if they did. Everyone in the crowd would know every single line, every note. It'd be cool. I just want some Dos and Tre representation in the mix. Stray Heart, X-Kid - bring em on!

  22. Goodness me, that one was nearly 10 minutes long! Did all the interviewers only get 10 minutes with them and some of them didn't come up with anything interesting so we are only getting a couple of minutes here and there?

  23. I really enjoyed this interview overall, but I died a little when he implied they didn’t release music in that time period. That’s a huge oversight as an interviewer — if you plan to make a comment like that, double check their discography first! Extremely polite of them to not say anything lol (especially because not only did they release music in 2016, but several songs on that album were political!).

  24. Damn, at first I brushed it off as him meaning he wanted an American Idiot-esque album in 2016, but watching it again he clearly says he wanted some Green Day in 2016. Ugh, I wish I was there to immediately correct him haha

  25. Lot of shit happening in my life and ended up having the most distant pre-release phase since I became a fan of this band in 2004. Kinda happy with it in the end since I didn’t over consume the two songs we got so far as I did with other releases in the past, and listening to them again today I still got that fresh excitement feeling. Might be because of this but my hype for the record is growing so much ❤️ Since I’ve been away from the fanbase conversation for a while, did we get any concrete hint on which song will be the next single and when it will be released?

  30. I think that’s album length but he could be talking about the time it takes to play on stage. They might play a little faster and without song breaks so they get it down to about a half hour.

  31. Yeah you’re not wrong but i think it’s important to also say that harm reduction is important and sometimes it’s the best people can achieve. And even though attempting moderation/going to rehab when it eventually fails isn’t the ideal course of action, it’s much better than giving up.

  33. Bands have been licensing their music for decades so nothing new here. Plus with people being able to instantly Shazam any song that they hear, they'll get some new fans and more awareness of the new album. Win win

  36. When will C&V drop? What is your opinion on Rush? Which song from American Idiot was the first one that was written? How different was it back then vs what we got on the album? Why was When It’s Time omitted from so many albums? Was Minnesota Girl and Things I Heard Today ever considered for C&V or any album before or after? It’s such a shit question. Why would anyone ever do something like a sequel to an album? It’s not a fucking movie. I can understand asking from the perspective of returning to that style or form of music but to make a sequel?? Yuck!

  38. I think he liked Linkin Park a little bit (maybe the „newer“ stuff). He praised Chesters voice and dedicated bobd for him at a show. Korn love Green Day but I dont know if Billie likes it. I remember and Insta story where he filmed the music channel to „freak on a leash“ 😂 Korn is a little bit special for nu metal. Jacoby Shaddix is a friend of Billie. I also like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot and the older Korn, but there are many bands in nu metal that really sucked back then.

Yeah billie needs to learn there's no such thing as moderation when it comes to being an alcoholic you can't half way quit it's gonna eventually pull you all the way back in it's best to stay away from it all together do like duff from guns n roses did try other healthier alternatives like working out take up art do something that's gonna fill the void left by quitting his addictions

  46. We live in a capitalist society. Money Money. It's all that really matters. I don't like it, but it's the world we live in (for now). That said, I'd rather them take money from corporations than increase ticket prices for us.

  47. Highly disagree. It’s been 10 years and it is pot. As a society we can’t walk on egg shells everywhere we go and with everyone we talk to. Part of being post-rehab is saying “no” in these situations. Alcohol and pot are part of society and while the respect towards people who do say “no” is rightfully and thankfully increasing, Billie will be in these situations for the rest of his life and can’t expect everyone to know his personal situation, especially in this case where it wasn’t made public.
