  1. As a 25 year old who listens mainly to rock music, it's amazing how few young rock bands I know of and listen to. Almost all of the bands I listen to are older and have been well established successful bands for at least 15 years. We can talk about how the mainstream is essentially ignoring rock music, how the rock charts are trying to get us to believe pop songs are actually rock songs, but I think it's also on us as consumers of rock music to try to listen to stuff beyond Green Day and other bands from that time, expand our horizons. I'm sure there are an endless amount of great bands that are still relatively new that I just haven't bothered checking out TADIKM new peak positions No. 1 on US Mainstream Rock, from No. 3 last week No. 18 on US Adult Alternative Songs, from No. 21 last week LMNB hasn't charted on any charts, probably because radio stations are still choosing to play TADIKM and not LMNB

  8. They seemed incredibly endeared by how enthusiastic the interviewer was and I was both endeared by the interviewer and the fact that they found him endearing. šŸ˜‚ Good stuff. Also yay that none of them sounded noticeably ill and seem set to put on a great show tomorrow!

  9. I think as big fans, as much as we love them, itā€™s hard to kind of step back and assess just how popular they are from a mainstream, everyday listener perspective. Personally, I know I take for granted how dang cool they are and how remarkable it is that they had not one, but two separate waves of massive, world-takeover success a decade apart. That is more than most artists can claim. And among the rock bands that are active right now, Green Day is absolutely still one of the biggest and most well-liked. I always feel so proud to see how much people honestly just *like them.* Aside from conservatives who dislike them for their politics, people generally seem to have warm feelings toward this band because of nostalgia, because they can tell that theyā€™re genuinely good guys, and because of how great they are live. Yes, thereā€™s less interest in them now, but shortly after 21CB, the entire rock genre fell off the map and hasnā€™t recovered. Thatā€™s not on any one artist and is quite a hurdle to overcome, and I think itā€™s made even more difficult by the streaming discussion youā€™ve all been talking about ā€” the art of the full album experience has been lost, and itā€™s now very overwhelming if you want to try getting into an established artist because their entire catalog is at your fingertips. My one hope is that young pop artists like Olivia Rodrigo, who are open about their rock influences and are incorporating it into their sound, will help bring it back into the mainstream. Because I donā€™t think itā€™s realistic that any older rock band will on their own without the help of a Gen Z push. Iā€™m 30 and itā€™s very strange to think about how much music has changed since I first discovered Green Day with American Idiot. Back then, my parents played CDs every weekend from a really nice sound system we had. Theyā€™d always have rock albums playing in the car. And it was like that my entire childhood up until I was a teenager. Now they donā€™t even make CD players in cars anymore! 20 years is a long time, but it also isnā€™t. The rapid evolution of technology since AI came out really altered how we consume music and how music becomes popular.

  13. I'm still mad that at the 2016 Aragon show Billie said Chicago can adopt him and he's still not here. We finished the paperwork, Billie. We have deep dish hot n ready for you, Billie. What are you waiting for?

  14. I honestly think they need to focus on "father to a son" it's one of the longer songs, I don't think 1981 has any potential of being a hit it's too short and the chorus is way to repetitive.

  19. Sorry It's been AN ETERNITY. I could not figure out a good way to post photos....but I got it. I got some information from Hans regarding the history of this guitar. Apparently, there were 2 of these back in the Idiot Era. One was "wrecked" at Milton Keynes. Unfortunately, I have never seen any photos or videos of any songs or instances where it was used there by BJ/JW. This guitar was used by Jason White, Jeff Matika, Kevin Preston (FBHT), and Billie Joe (possibly during the Idiot era according to Hans). Most notably, I believe that this guitar was definitely used for about the first 5 shows for 21st Century Breakdowns theater and studio shows where the album was played front to back (Fox Theater, The Uptown, The Independent, Studio 880, etc). This guitar was the "Eb" tuned guitar for 21CB, Before the Lobotomy, Longview, Welcome To Paradise, all the older back catalog songs, etc. From videos of the FBHT shows, I can see Kevin Preston using the guitar with the strap button under the cutaway similar to how Jason White has his red les paul special setup. When Billie used the guitar, the pin is where it is now, on the top of the horn similar to his signature 2012 junior (Smash).-albeit a little off center haha. What's really interesting, is the Boulevard of Broken Dreams music video features a '58 reissue TV Model type junior (with the black pickguard) and the strap button is once again pinned under the horn. What I can't tell is if that guitar was the one that was eventually wrecked at Milton Keynes or if this survivor is the same one. The upscaled/remastered 21CB live videos are just borderline as being able to see whether the extra strap button hole existed in 2009 or NOT. This thing is just a boatload of fun to play, it being a custom shop reissue is the cherry on top.

  21. What was that all about putting their full names under their faces every minute. Found that really annoying and a distraction. As said, not much new info from them, but I just love to see them together in interviews like this, just chilling out, being themselves, relaxed and happy.

  22. Surprised that it's not a black background. Glad they've still got some surprises up their sleeve and at every chance, Mike is saying there are some weird things on this record. The weirder the better, I always say. And guess what? Those black and white photos of the three guys? That's clearly the album covers for what could be a spectacular Trilogy of albums. The Brains. The Brawn. The Ball. For Green Day 15 or GDXV as it will be titled, I hope every song is slow and each and every one is a different genre. No need in pleasing a single person on this forum. Haha. I say "haha" but I'm not kidding.

  24. I think it was just released too soon after TADIKM. Like it was 7 days after For reference, FRA released a month after FOA and that track barely charted on anything either. But the gap was 4x bigger for that song than LMNB. I don't think the band expected anything from FRA or LMNB. The most commercial singles for each album cycle is the lead single and the more ballad type single. If the song was performing better on streaming platforms, then we probably would be seeing it chart on some rock charts despite poor airplay. But neither song is doing too well in terms of streaming anyway. Modern GD singles chart success is mostly down to airplay anyway. I think it will be another while before we get a 3rd single, Oh Yeah was released 3 months after FRA. I imagine it'll at least be another month before we hear anything about a 3rd single FOAMF released the 4th single Meet Me on the Roof on the day of the album release. I think it's pretty typical nowadays (at least for modern rock bands) for the 4th / last single to be released on or around the album release

  30. Last year I broke Billie's funko pop when I found out I had the Covid two days before the concerts. This year I couldn't get a ticket to Milan, for that fckng small show, and I broke my copy of Bullet in a Bible (by the way I bought it used 12 years ago) Ah oops, this is the "fangirls" topic I think I've really got problems. I love this band, this band saved my life and help me in all of my teenage years But lately following them and being disappointed really hurts. My hella small tour

  31. It was interesting when he mentioned the album making process and then said ā€œsometimes you think youā€™re inspired and youā€™re notā€¦ā€ The interviewers should have chased this comment down but I wonder if thatā€™s what happened with FOAM

  41. I think we will get the 3rd single in mid December. I wouldn't be surprised if it will be 1981. 4th single will probably be released in mid January together with the album release. *Or as an alternative scenario, no new single will be released this year and the 3rd single will be released towards (a week before) the album release in mid January.

  43. I donā€™t know how anyone can listen to American Idiot and not admit itā€™s an impressive album, even if the music isnā€™t your thing. Rewarding listen start to finish. Do people even listen to albums that way anymore? Maybe the fact that the singles were overplayed to death made people lose sight of how great these songs are.
    1 point
  44. People who think American Idiot is just average clearly haven't heard it in a long time and are letting their current views of the band influence their opinion on it. Every time I listen to that record start to finish, I'm impressed by how amazing it is. It truly is a masterpiece, no matter what people say.

  45. The placement of this interview in a mid-November episode is very misleading. I think they were interviewed at Louder Than Life, which took place like a whole month before TADIKM even dropped, so it wasnā€™t at a time when theyā€™d be discussing the new album yet. That said, their interviews always make me so ridiculously happy so this was delightful to watch anyway.

  47. So, a little update. I guess Iā€™m seeing Green Day! My parents surprised me with two tickets in the 100ā€™s section for my birthday, and Iā€™m so hyped. Itā€™ll be my first (and hopefully not last) time seeing them. I still donā€™t entirely take back everything I said, because these VIP passes are still absolutely horrible, and I still wish this was a solo tour, but at least Iā€™m seeing them!
