TADIKM was the number one video in their countdown last week and this Thursday they will feature their interview with the guys from the Louder Than Life fest. Nov 16 on AXS TV https://www.instagram.com/reel/CzeDtyCM2MR/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==6 points

Good sign because in other press events they highlighted other songs as standout tracks. I think this will be a really good record given their age and more recent efforts. We need to realize too they’re never going to go above and beyond those first 5 major label albums. Most bands don’t even get 5 exceptional records in their lifetime. Hell, as a proper lineup The Clash only had 5 records. Anything after AI has been a bonus that’s how I view it. Commercial in Canada for Grey Cup. There is more Green Day than football in it!5 points

As much as I love Green Day, I’m not sure they could fill these stadiums without another big act opening for them. Maybe I’m wrong but I feel like these stadiums shows are usually reserved for big pop artists like Taylor Swift or Harry Styles. Sure, there are exceptions (Metallica for example) but I think bringing another big act helps them to make sure that the stadiums are actually full. At least this times it’s named after their new album, which gives me a bit of hope.4 points
-
What I hate this time is that there is a lineup at all. This is supposed to be Green Day's album tour, not a multi-act bill. I see no good reason for having three fucking bands opening. It's even worse than Hella Mega because at least that was just two. What happened to a 30-45 minute opener and then the main act? Ugh!4 points
-
Which would be fine if they didn’t rig that system by creating artificial demand, limiting tickets with multiple presales, VIP packages and preventing single ticket sales. They make it appear tickets are more scarce than they are to inflate the prices.4 points

The impression I’ve had from the bits and pieces that have come out so far is that the bare bones of it were written a while back but it was the last song to get fleshed out into a finished product (see: Mike’s interview where he described adding the quiet breakdown near the start etc)4 points

I think American Idiot was both a blessing and a curse for Green Day for a long time. It proved that they could evolve their sound into something grander, and that it would be incredibly well received. But then, once interviews about 21CB started rolling around, there was just this intense feeling of anxiety coming from them. I think it was less about feeling on top of the world and more about thinking, well shit, where do we go from here? How do we keep improving from American Idiot? First, they tried it with 21CB (which I personally love more than AI, but I don’t think came close to reaching the heights of AI to the general public). I think they kinda started driving themselves mad thinking about how they could keep doing more more more, to the point that it was unhealthy and the trilogy was born. They didn’t quit that mindset until they were literally forced to, and then they came back fresh with RevRad, an excellent album (I think, at least) that embraced their varied sounds and felt authentic. It finally wasn’t trying to prove anything or be anything it wasn’t. It was just a solid, honest album. I don’t think they were freed from the expectations set by American Idiot until that time. And while I’m sure they’d love to capture lightning in a bottle again, I don’t get the sense that they’re so deeply concerned about doing so as they were pre-RevRad. From what little we know of Saviors, I get the idea it will be similar to RevRad. The two singles, to me, already do a great job of incorporating two unique sounds that are different from one another but are both distinctly Green Day.4 points

I’m having some good radio vibes today. Just came back from the movies. Short ten minute drive. On the way there I listened to one station — they announced the Saviors tour and a ticket giveaway they’re doing this week. On the way back I listened to another station. Soon as I turned it on TADIKM played and then they announced the tour too. This thing is blanketing local radio stations4 points

I agree. And as far as I’m concerned, they have every right to do this “effective touring“ if they don’t feel like playing 100+ shows per tour. However, I wish they would make sure that’s it’s also somewhat effective for the fans. We all know that Ticketmaster sucks and that prices are going up but I still believe that there are ways to make the tickets a little more affordable. Especially for a band like Green Day that always took pride in their working class background. While I’m not necessarily a fan of stadium tours, I think that the band should do what they’re most comfortable with. But right now, these shows just aren’t affordable for many fans, and that’s sad.4 points

Seems like TADIKM reaching #1 on Rock and Alternative Airplay gave it a boost, huh? Even LMNB gained a few more streams, probably 'cause some people chose to check it out after listening to TADIKM.3 points

I don’t think they were actually rehearsing, I think that was a joke referencing the NGFL video with the football theme.3 points

I think for the big shows that’s part of how they create an appearance of scarcity among the buyers more likely to shell out. I’m sure they’ve done the research and know that leads to higher overall earnings for a finite number of tickets. You’re limited by the size of the venue, so you can only increase revenue in so many ways.3 points
-
I see this a lot with tours lately. It seems to be the norm for there to be multiple pre sales: email, Spotify, credit cards, live Nation etc. it's so tiring. I remember the days where you had to be a Idiot Fan Club member to get pre sale access and if you weren't, best of luck in the general sales.3 points
-
Oh damn, I hope they feel better soon! Definitely the responsible choice if they’re contagious or still needing rest, though. (Also, I hope this hushes the people who were acting like the band canceled Friday’s performance because someone had a minor boo-boo 🙄).3 points
-
I think there’s two reasons for it - HM was a huge success and they want to repeat that, but also, I think they wanted to offer a package worth the price. If they did stadium tours with one opener, it would still have to be a band big enough to help them fill stadiums and the tickets would still be expensive as they are, plus GD’s set would still probably be under 2 hours. I think it’s likely that they wanted to bring something extra to add value instead of making it just a regular GD show except shorter and more expensive.3 points
-
I have no idea how true this is, but I get the sense one of the reasons Green Day switched management to begin with was because they wanted to change up how they toured and handled promotional gigs. They can’t be pushing themselves to play the same amount of tour stops they did 20-30 years ago, it’s just not realistic and would probably make for shows where they’re not able to give their usual 110%. While I’d love for them to just have their own tour, I think this idea of taking a few bands out and doing stadium stops makes a lot of sense. They’re getting the best of both worlds now — they can play small clubs and then huge stadiums.3 points
-
I think if they thought they could fill a stadium with just themselves, Rancid and Lindas they would have done so. They need one other name band each time I think3 points
-
I think both tours "make sense" from a laysmens view. Both have: 1 New Punk Band (Inturrupters / Lindas) 1 Established Punk/ Rock Band (Fall Out Boy / Rancid) 1 Legacy 90's band (Weezer / Pumpkins) I do feel Green Day was down with Inter/Weezer/FOB lineup for Hella Mega. Mostly genre match / friend match. I do feel Green Day at least picked Rancid / Lindas. However, Pumpkins feels like less of a fit. Maybe pushed by Management.3 points
-
They literally said it in their interviews for the Hella Mega tour. They told Crush the one thing they hadn’t done yet was a stadium tour. That was what they asked for. Crush made it happen for them. Management does what the artist wants. They mentioned wanting to tour more effectively going forward. That’s what this looks like.3 points
-
While they’ll always do small secret shows, I think as they get older, if they could possibly fill stadiums, they’ll continue to do stadium shows because it allows them to play for more people with fewer shows per tour. I just don’t see them going back to 100 shows a year anymore3 points

I think I have decided on Georgia rather than North Carolina. It's a longer drive, but I like the Smashing Pumpkins and want to see them. Probably wouldn't bother if they weren't with Green Day. And if I'm spending a trillion Dude Bucks or whatever for this show, may as well go big or go home, right? Billy Corgon and Billie Armstrong. Tim Armstrong. Do the Linda Lindas have a related named as well? The Billie-Billy Bill!2 points

Yeah, asking folks to open a credit card in order to get tickets feels like such a scam. A fan club I totally understand. But I guess the people who are most likely to open cards on a whim are also probably likely to spend more money so their strategy is pretty obvious. All of the regular pit tickets for Pittsburgh — so, what, like 7 — sold in the first credit card presale. It just doesn't seem right.2 points

In the case the band got sick with covid, I really hope the CFL show doesn't require a covid test and risk the potential of not performing. that would suck!2 points

I dunno or green day could just play arenas? Plenty of bands their size and bigger seem fine with it. And the false scarcity puts immense pressure on fans to pay up when in reality there will be plenty of tickets left and more may even open up closer to the show. It's dumb. And I get it! I almost caved to fomo reading everyone's excitement at getting tickets but with so many folks saying they bought tickets to HM the day of or days before, I'll just wait.2 points
-
I agree! I was so disappointed that this is yet another package tour. If Green day needs to play shorter sets because they're getting older fine, they can still do that with one opener. They don't need a whole festival lineup to make it feel justified.2 points
-
Hope this good and that it’s available outwith the US or someone is able to capture it!2 points
-
Yes they do and then ticketmaster and big banks like citi and american express will drop the price close to the show if they do not sell. its all a game Agree and I remember Billie in interviews after his rehab treatment talking about not wanting to overdo it with touring and work. And they do all have lives, families, their coffee buisiness and other things outside of touring.2 points
-
On that note it’s interesting how in the Italian interviews they’ve described this album not so much as a further evolution of their sound, but as a bridge between Dookie and AI. Where those albums are as different as they could be, Saviors promises to be an interesting blend of (or a nod to) both styles.2 points
-
The Network album was a much more successful experimental effort than FOAM. With MM2020pt2 you don’t even need FOAM. Where I think FOAM might have been more successful with Rob or Vig isn’t necessarily with the production or sound itself, they still would have gotten the sound Billie wanted, but rather Rob or Vig would have pushed the guys to complete the songs, fill them out, add more parts, more lyrics, etc. Those guys have the ability to stand up to Billie and tell him the truth and make him better in the process. Without that you get FOAM. Walker was just a yes man.2 points
-
No you’re right. They had to pick from whoever was already on Crush’s roster to make negotiations easy, I think they talked about that as well. They were shown a list of choices and these bands were the best fit.2 points
-
I disagree. Crush isn’t forcing them to do stadium tours. This is what Green Day wanted. Their thinking of their long term strategy for touring into their 50’s and 60’s.2 points
-
As far as I'm concerned we have Crush Management to thank for the whole shitfest2 points

Do you think that Green Day will ever go back to arena shows? I have a feeling that they only want to do stadium shows since a few years 😅2 points

The whole market feeds on demand. The equilibrium price is higher than it was 3 years ago, 6 years ago, 10 years ago etc. Spoiler alert: it may level but it’s not going down!!! That’s why it’s important to continually have multiple sources of income and invest in the market. Even with little to no knowledge the benefits of inflation itself will create income that mitigates the inflation you see in the marketplace. I get that it hurts us, the customer, the small guy or whatever but we’re also not entitled to having massive experiences on the floor or 100 section. These are massive privileges. And I will say when I finally wanted to pull the trigger to see Green Day live the first time it was during a 5 year break. Be happy they are present and here and that there are almost 60,000 tickets available. Surely there is one in the house that is available and affordable. And if someone cant carry over $120 over 7-8 months for a ticket they have bigger problems than not being able to see the band live. At that point the focus should be on organizing your life and figuring it out. Disagree Rancid is way better than FOB and Weezer. FOB is legit one of the worst bands I’ve ever heard. There’s nothing special about them. Weezer is ok I like some songs but they’re too generic for me. Smashing Pumpkins has their own sound and they are a great band. Rancid is punk royalty and their 90s hits align nicely beside Green Day’s older tracks. Outside of Green Day, the only other person to hold grammy awards in the group is Tim Armstrong. Cant wait to hear Matt Freeman rip the Maxwell Murder solo in the stadium. Pete Wentz couldn’t even hold Matt’s pick. The costs for hockey arenas is significantly cheaper but the tickets would remain with the same pricing and then hit the secondary market for much much more. The difference between this and the big stadiums is theres no guarantee to get a ticket with the hockey arena situation. With the giant stadiums you’re almost guaranteed a seat somewhere. Did you try to manually drill down into a specific section? I find that works sometimes to break against the algorithms that are set by ticketmaster.1 point
-
Weezer, I can at least believe. They were both top forces in music during the 90s, and they have been friends at least since the Warning tour.1 point
