I miss epic and experimental Green Day, a la 2000-2009; incredible decade of music. Maybe Saviors will match that description but based on the four songs we've heard, with the exception of "The American Dream is Killing Me", I don't think that will be the case. Happy and hoping to be proven wrong!12 points

I know that offering front of stage tickets and charging more money for them has become the norm, but I still think it’s kind of a shitty thing to do. Concert tickets are expensive enough already, there’s no need to make the fans pay even more. I know that no one is forced to buy these tickets but I still don’t like it.7 points

Please stop this bullshit. Last time I've seen enough bullshit was when you guys tried to depicher non existing codes from random words posted by green day for a countdown.7 points

I don't understand why it's even a question whether we'll get a new version of OEB? The version of OEB we have sounds nothing like the songs that have already released. It's for sure not something that Cavallo had anything to do with. Even if the instrumentation is the same, the production will for sure be different to be more in line with the songs we've already heard5 points

Yeah don’t like how they’ve organised this tour so far: - really few tour dates, covering a lot fewer countries than usual and most are festivals - ticket prices for Green Day used to be well below other bands, now they’re merely midfield - Green Day used not to make a great distinction between seating and standing categories, now they’re following the path of most other artists in splitting things up - presale access codes are great in theory, but did not apply to the club shows, where they were needed most, and are patchy for the remaining tour dates - for the Milan show, the official Green Day website linked to ticketmaster, when in fact there were three different providers selling tickets and ticketmaster likely only had a small number of tickets on their own site. Very disappointing. I could go on. Let me say that I am very grateful for being a fan right now in other ways, not least due to how good they sound live and because the new album seems like it’ll be fantastic, but on the touring front this is has been one huge wave of disappointments so far.4 points

Trying for Pittsburgh pit tickets tomorrow. Already asking my parents to make good on that “free babysitting for life” promise, now that I’m giving them a grandkid. They aren’t surprised this is my first reason why ... though my dad continues to make jokes about how “old” the band is and how he can’t believe they’re still touring, when he’s 57.4 points

At what point does saying "lazy songwriting" over and over again just become a lazy critique? 🤷♂️4 points

Exactly. It’s fine if they don’t want to/can’t play as many shows as they used to. But the fair ticket prices always separated them from other big rock artists. I remember how surprised I was when the Foo Fighters charged more than 100€ for their concert in Hamburg. That must have been back in 2017/2018. I thought that that’s something Green Day wouldn’t do. Of course times have changed since then and everything is getting more expensive but I still believe that artists as big as Green Day have a little bit of control over these things. There’s absolutely no need to make people pay more money just to stand closer to the stage. That just creates a division among the fans. Many artists are doing it but that doesn’t make it any better. I saw MCR last summer and thought that it’s kind of shitty of them to make this distinction and it’s the same with Green Day. I love the band and it’s a great time to be a fan. Still, I hope their concerts won’t become too expensive to attend for the average fan.3 points

I've never seen different prices for different parts of the stadium for a UK Green Day gig before, it's usually all the same price even for standing and seated. Front of stage thing suuuuucks not just because of the price but because less people can buy them and have a shot at being near the front by arriving early. Usually anyone with a standing ticket can get a really good spot if they choose to arrive early enough. I wonder how difficult those tickets will be to get.3 points
-
From what we heard, it's already a major improvement over FOAM.3 points

imo "front of stage" tickets in the pit are an insult to the fans ... just to squeeze out the extra cash ... i hate every band that does it, green day are no exception3 points

I'm not saying that I'm expecting or even wanting a simple song about being stupid to have "AI/21CB-style narrative" but you can have stuff like repeated lyrics across songs be intentional and mean something. Even if it isn't intentional, I don't see an issue with the word "suicide" being repeated in multiple songs. Nimrod repeats the word "suicide" in Prosthetic Head and Uptight and that's not an AI/21CB style narrative. Is that bad songwriting there?3 points
-
The concept is "people stupid". Sometimes it's fun, other times not so much. Good stupid. Neutral stupid and evil stupid.3 points

I also don’t think repeating certain keywords or catchphrases is a sign for lazy songwriting. It’s perfectly natural that artists have a tendency to repeat certain words, just like we all have our individual ways of speaking and expressing ourselves. There are definitely some Green Day songs with bad lyrics, but this isn’t one of them. In fact, ‘terminal vertigo‘ might be my new favorite expression.3 points

They have a pretty good track record with ballads, so releasing a more emotional song as the next single would definitely make sense. Blink did it and it worked out very well for them. I checked Spotify and apparently, Still Breathing is Green Day‘s most streamed song post 21CBD and among their most streamed songs in general. While that one isn’t really a ballad, it’s definitely a song that has an emotional and somewhat melancholic vibe to it. If Father to a Son ist this album‘s BOBD, WMUWSE or 21 Guns, it would definitely make sense to release it as a single. TADIKM and LMNB might profit from that, too.3 points

Spotify streams for TADIKM Day 1 - 248k Day 2 - 487k (+239k) Day 3 - 663k (+176k) Day 4 - 1,078k (+415k) Day 5 - 1,313k (+235k) Day 6 - 1,495k (+182k) Day 7 - 1,718k (+223k) Day 8 - 1,911k (+193k) Day 9 - 2,085k (+174k) Day 10 - 2,336k (+251k) Day 11 - 2,534k (+198k) Day 12 - 2,669k (+135k) Day 13 - 2,788k (+119k) Spotify streams for LMNB Day 1 - 137k Day 2 - 469k (+332k) Day 3 - 636k (+167k) Day 4 - 770k (+134k) TADIKM is losing the consistency it had for the first 11 days as it continues to drop in terms of daily listens. Meanwhile LMNB also seems to be losing streams at a faster rate than TADIKM. The songs may still end up being listened to a lot by Green Day fans when the album comes out, if people appear to enjoy it as much as they did RevRad. If there's a 3rd single released before the album release, a song which could still have the potential to be a decent hit for them, maybe it could be as successful as Still Breathing?3 points

There was a 6 song EP rumour but we don't know. And the first teaser song clearly wasn't TADIKM. Pretty sure we are just seeing a couple of coincidences.3 points

Exactly. They hadn't even written TADIKM at that point so there was no album sequence yet.3 points

There's no way he's not using a teleprompter when they're playing so many new songs. The best call he could've made. No one cares he's using it and it allows him to play deep cuts and new songs without botching it or having to put excessive effort into the lyrics.3 points

Aw, watching so many quality videos makes me wanna grab them and mixing them like the old times I'm still waiting for the drop D song. I'm glad that they are feeling confident with the new material playing it in advance. That's the old school way.3 points

I liked it at first listen and still like it. Would I put it in the top half of their discography? No, but I still listen to tracks off of it regularly. I've said it a million times, but I still want to hear one of Billie's bands play TTMAC live. And I love IWATT.3 points

Yeah that's why I said Still Breathing. Because that has been their most successful single post 21CB. I don't see them releasing a single that does as well as 21 Guns or any of the big singles from AI.2 points

Are these prices normal for concerts in the US? I know that you guys usually have to pay (a lot) more than us fans in Europe, but more than 200$ for a Green Day concert seems kinda crazy to me.2 points

The repetition of words/phrases like "suicide" in both tracks doesn't necessarily constitute lazy songwriting. For example, the red lights references in the trilogy was clearly an intentional recurring thing based on the themes of that project and not just "laziness". AI, 21CB and even RevRad have a bunch of similar intentional repetition/callbacks. It's possible that once we hear the full album that there is reason for any repetition. The one repeated phrase that I think is probably just laziness is the "vendetta/revenge" thing in One Eyed Bastard that has been used multiple times already, in Peacemaker and Bang Bang, which was fine in both songs but now seems like a bit of a lyrical crutch to me2 points

That's because they skipped around one they tagged as #2 which featured the acoustic riff then #3 which had a similar riff to 99 revolutions then #5 with the girl saying "play this for your dog" then #6 which we now know is 1981, then #7 had homecoming playing in the background as tre tells rob "this is a big slow song" it jumped to #9 clip featuring the d tuned guitar riff finally #10 which I believe was the final studio snippet featuring rob cavallo in the recording studio telling the guys "it was almost a perfect take, but tre needed to be louder"so that was around late July of 2022, Maybe they recorded a handful of new songs after to make up the 15 tracks on saviors. And someone pointed out track 7 is usually a slow song well goodnight adeline is the 7th track on saviors so maybe that's the song tre was referring to2 points

They could be buried in the mix as well. but a perfect example of what youre explaining is the Ed Stasium remixes for The Replacements album Tim. It’s caused a lot of arguments in the facebook group for the band.2 points

Although multiple teasers could be different parts of 1 song, like how we discovered The 1st and 4th teasers are different parts of Look Ma, No Brains2 points

This is quite a stretch. The numbers are just the order they put out the teasers in, and 1981 coincidentally lines up.2 points

The band released Bang Bang, Revolution Radio & Still Breathing before the album released. SB and RevRad weren't officially released as singles until later when they got music videos but the lyric videos for those songs were released before the album was released So since the last 3 projects (FOAMF, RevRad, trilogy) released 3 songs before the album, I'd say it's most likely we at least get a 3rd song before the album releases in January2 points

I still like it to this day, even if I think about the hard pandemic years when I listen. But it's a good album2 points

To this day I still don't understand all the negative comments on this forum regarding this album! Comments such as 'Poor Production', 'terrible mixing', 'immature lyrics', 'songs are too short', 'half-baked concept' and 'Butch Walker ruined it' make me scratch my head with confusion! I LOVE this album, and it has been on steady rotation for the last 3 years. I can listen to this album from front to back. The only song I routinely skip is Junkies on a High (which is still pretty good) . For me, the production and mixing is executed very well. The guitar tones are probably the best they've been. Billie seems to really have found something that is somewhat of his new style. The mix is amazing when you listen on headphones.. its a trip. This album, combined with the Trilogy are probably 90% of the Green Day I listen to now, and thats coming from a fan of 30 years! On a side note... Look Ma, No Brains is easily a trilogy/Foam style song.. everything from the Mix, Lyrics and guitar Tone. So I'm looking forward to seeing more of this style in the upcoming album!2 points
