Minor correction, but it really isn't falsetto other than for about 10-15% of that section. He actually sings it in his mixed voice on the album track. Live, he has been leaning more towards falsetto because it is much more difficult to control your mixed voice in that setting. As far as Billie's shift in the appearance of his pitch (sounding like it has more depth back in 04), this really is due to him working on finding proper vocal placement to be able to not only hit the notes, but also stay on pitch. If he has been working with a vocal coach (or even if he just remembers a lot of what he learned doing AI on Bway), I can assure you that he is adjusting his vocal placement so that he doesn't blow out his voice. As somebody that does a good amount of musical theatre and has fronted bands, it isn't easy. The way I have had to shift my singing from only 5 years ago is pretty remarkable. If something is painful or you are having to strain, you are doing it wrong or it is simply out of your current range. It really is that easy. Fixing it, on the other hand, not so easy and takes work. I am amazed at how good Billie still sounds live (and I saw them at the Thursday Freemont CC show as well as WWWY). The work he has put in/is putting in is definitely working. Yes, he sounds different than he did 20 years ago. He's 20 years older. That shit happens. I can tell you that 75% of the acts at WWWY wish they could still sing their old music the way Billie can rock out GD's catalogue.12 points

I love TADIKM but I'm also an absolute sucker for 2004 Billie vocals. They just gave the songs more... idk... weight? As for why his voice changed, I suppose that's just ageing tbh. He sounds different live as well, if you compare live performances from then and in later years, it's quite noticeable. That's why I'm also a sucker for 2000-2005 live performances. But yeah, some people's voices just get deeper with age, others more high-pitched, some more nasal, others raspier etc. It's usually a combination of genetic and environmental factors. But anyhow, it's not something he or anyone else can control. As it stands, I'm still happy he's able to sing rather well. That's not a given. For instance, I love Dave Grohl and adore the Foos, but in recent years hearing that guy desperately and rather forcefully trying to extract the same strength of voice as in previous years is just kinda sad. Billie sometimes struggles, yes, but for a guy in his 50s with a past of severe alcohol (and substance) abuse he's doing pretty well all things considered. We can't turn back time, so let's just savour the present11 points

I still don’t get the hate for the TikTok line. Sure, it’s not subtle, but he’s not singing it from his perspective but from a conservative one. Also, TikTok is a massive cultural phenomenon that is here to stay. It’s not just going to go away like MySpace or something like that. And even if you dislike the line, that doesn’t make the song bad. Turning from “I like this“ to “this is terrible“ just because of one line of lyrics is honestly kind of immature.11 points

This line is one of my favorites in the song. Also hits home as I’ve seen my local community full of classic houses and history get bulldozed when rich people decide to move in, tear down these beautiful old homes, and build a new McMansion. It’s a trend in America.10 points

Anyway anyway the song....it's great 😃 it doesn't top Bang Bang for me but definitely one of the best lead singles in the past few years. Way better than FOA and Oh Love.9 points

I've always been impressed with how good Billie still sounds. Different than he sounded when he was 22, sure, but A. he's older and B. he's singing different parts now, for lack of a better term. Even someone younger like Matt Bellamy has had his vocals go downward faster than Billie has. And then look at someone like Stevie Nicks, who totally blew her voice out in only a few years, both due to daily singing and substances. Billie's also had a couple of vocal changes, one from Warning to AI when he started sounding less congested, and then AI to 21CB when his voice got higher. All of which works.8 points

I take that line as people will throw their morals down the sewer drain to achieve the 'American Dream.'8 points

I don't care about fantano's opinions on Green Day. He can have whatever opinions he wants, that's fine. What I do have an issue with is more how everyone who watches fantano responds to that. When he gave FOAM a 0/10, I did not think that score was justified but at the end of the day, it's his opinion. But I think him giving the album a 0/10 had a huge effect on everyone who listened to that review and then went to listen to the album. Idk if anyone who watched the review and then went to listen to FOAMF genuinely went into the album with any intentions other than wanting to hate it because Fantano did. I don't even like FOAMF but that's what I think. As a result, if you go on metacritic, albumoftheyear.org etc and look at FOAMF user scores, they will be so damn low. Like ridiculously lower than you'd expect. Especially on albumoftheyear.org which seems more like the r/iamsosmart version of Metacritic. And I think that's mostly down to fantano's review. There are other reviewers who are like fantano but don't have as much of an influence as fantano who's probably the most subscribed to music critic on YouTube I have more respect for reviewers who mostly review bands who they at least somewhat like. They may not like everything that the band releases but they have a level of respect for the artists they cover and don't go into the albums with negativity. Spectrum Pulse, Rocked, Crash Thompson, even ARTV may not love everything the band has done since AI or 21CB but they treat the albums and band with a level of respect, they acknowledge the good parts of bad albums. I just don't see why you'd continue to even bother with Green Day if you haven't liked anything they've done since the 90's8 points

I really like the song and video! Insanely catchy and a genuine return to AI/21st CB style. I can't wait for the album.8 points

I don’t think Green Day could make anything that this guy would like. Needs to do a blind listen because I bet he’d hate Dark of the Moon if he thought Green Day wrote it.8 points
-
Reviewers like Fantano piss me off because it's clear you don't like Green Day at all. That's fine! So why the hell do you keep talking about their music? It's just for views and to get people worked up. As someone who writes about music, I'm not going to bother with an album by an artist I already know I don't like. Because why? I already know it's not for me. To me it's the equivalent of folks who go on music videos of bands they don't like and say "lawl this band sucks." Okay? Why did you click on the video? Spend your time checking out something you are genuinely interested in.7 points

Well there's Pop Rocks. I am pretty sure he was talking about the candy, right? He's trying so hard to hate it that it's actually cringe... I do wonder what he actually considers to be "good" music though. Also is it really that difficult to think maybe Billie is not referring to himself or his band when saying "we" in some of his songs, but rather what could be a generalization of Americans or even humanity as a whole?6 points

Spotify streams for TADIKM Day 1 - 248k Day 2 - 487k (+239k) Day 3 - 663k (+176k) Day 4 - 1,078k (+415k) Day 5 - 1,313k (+235k) Spotify updated again. The performance has kept pretty consistent rather than just completely dropping off after the first couple days but I think it's clear that this isn't going to be a big hit for the band. Doubt it'll even surpass the streams of their other post-trilogy hits, namely Still Breathing & Bang Bang which are at 105m and 84m streams respectively. I can see it passing some of their lesser recent singles like Oh Yeah (33m), Father of All (38m) and maybe even Oh Love (47m) eventually. I think the band need to start doing proper promotion like interviews and TV performances to try and keep the song in the public's view for at least a little while6 points

I don't like how they basically replaced the amazing falsetto part with regular singing, completely butchering what is my favorite part of the song. And I'm not into the fact that someone took their work, modified it with AI, and now some people are saying this is better than what the band is putting out for real. Kinda lame if ya ask me. It is cool only as an exercise of imagining what some songs would sound like if they were made in different eras, but that's about it.5 points

I was immediately reminded of 21CB when I listened to TADIKM for the first time. It really took me back and it felt so good! It's just absolutely bizarre that this person ignores that. Like @Red said, they put their hearts and souls into that album, especially Billie (who practically worked himself into the ground), and to just throw it aside like that is a complete insult. What a dumb fuck.5 points

Wow, they just played TADIKM for the third time on Austria's biggest radio station and an hour before they played American Idiot and the anchor did a quite long introduction to the new song and the new album. Very nice to hear!5 points

Yeah similar but one is modernized. Condos are a horrible idea. The idea is to maximize population density and reduce and minimize society’s expectations for living space. or atleast thats the impact now. The original idea was to help with pressures of housing and to provide affordable housing and ownership. It allowed people to get a foot in the door of the market. It’s also painting a picture of gentrification as a whole. This is often seen as a negative on marginalized communities due to economic impact to the markets in the area. That’s a whole debate though which is off topic from the song. My favourite line as well. The delivery is epic and the lyrics are near perfect. For anyone in a business that’s impacted by layoffs this will hit home. The severance documentation is essentially a ransom note. You have no options and if you don’t sign this or agree to our terms and conditions you don’t get what is legally yours. Meanwhile all the power there is held with the employee. They just dont want you to exercise your rights so they force you into this pressure cooker environment and manipulate your life to get what THEY want or need.4 points

“We’re pedophiles for the American Dream” sounds like a more general statement of describing Americans who are weirdly obsessed with achieving something that’s no longer achievable. He’s always used strong language to describe things. “Maybe I’m the f****t America” and (describing religious zealots) “like a dog that’s been sodomized”4 points

Looks like the single is debuting #5 on the alternative rock list highest debut since linking parks catalyst so I think this will be a #1 rock radio hit soon4 points

I agree, but that’s not what the song says, is it? Because there’s a difference between the person who writes/sings a song and the “narrator“ (for lack of a better word). To me, “Don't want no huddled masses/TikTok and taxes“ is something that a conservative would say. So it’s not necessarily Billie Joe‘s position. I totally agree, it’s not subtle and it can easily be misinterpreted. I just think that some people don’t quite get the context. But ultimately, it doesn’t even matter. We’re in our little bubble where people spend hours talking about Green Day. But I’m pretty sure the mainstream audience doesn’t even care.4 points

They would only have done the video. One night is not long at all for a video with that many extras, sets and makeup. I hope we get another video but it may be either a lyric video or something simpler3 points

Not to keep staying off topic, but I ENJOY hearing someone criticize what I love....which is lucky for me because I love Foam and Trilogy! Muhuhahah. But yes, even I agree the new album is shaping up to be more well crafted.3 points

I don’t like Fantano’s work but everyone has the right to criticize art. That’s an important part of engaging in art and any talks of silencing those voices is concerning. Just don’t take it personal and enjoy what you enjoy.3 points

Am I missing something? Why do people care so much what seemingly endless amounts of random YouTubers say about the songs? Opinions are like arseholes and all that...3 points

I don't agree. I'm not going to pick up an album by artist I already know I don't like and have no interest in and review it. That's at least how I approach writing reviews. That's like if I decided to review a Migos album and said it was bad just because I don't like Migos in the first place. I'd rather someone else who actually knows the band, knows their catalog, and is interested in their music talk about it as @Christian's Inferno! Is saying. I agree that I'd rather check out reviews from people who at least like the artist yet are not afraid to criticize them. I'm not saying they have to love everything they put out. Rather they have a genuine interest in the band which is why they gave the album, song, whatever a spin. Thank you! This is all I'm trying to express. It feels like a waste of everyone's time that he continues to seek out things he doesn't enjoy.3 points

that "pedophiles" line is extremely questionable, that's true lol, but let's remember this is the same band that created iconic lines such as - B-M-Excellent tits - sex, drugs and violence - english, math and science - she is so wet and reckless - what the fuck does OK stand for - looking for a cause but all i got was santa clause - we'll shoot the moon into the sun billie joe has shown time and time that he can write amazing, thoughtful and heartfell lyrics. but when he fucks up he kinda fucks up hard and either he writes nonsense or most people don't understand what he's trying to say.3 points

TADIKM is not the best GD song of all time. Certainly not better than most of 21CB which is the album it's most similar to. But I think it's welcome on the album as long as there aren't a bunch of other songs on the album that are trying to be the same AI/21CB style tracks LMNB is not the greatest song either but it's the first track we've got in 20 years that feels like it almost could be on Nimrod or Insomniac OEB & 1972 aren't the best songs either but I think with the right production, which is one of the best things about the new album so far, they could be genuinely pretty great songs. While none of the songs we've heard are necessarily going to be songs I'll put in my top GD songs of all time, I appreciate the diversity and production of the songs we've heard more than anything.3 points

The more I hear this song the more I feel like it is genius. A really clever blend of AI song elements and classic Green Day power chords. Plus lots of clarity in the production quality. Not my favorite of all time but really great song to come back with. I kind of love it.3 points

Been seeing a lot of reaction videos posted here while scrolling through and I just wanted to pop in and say that I couldn't care less what some random (or popular) person on YouTube thinks, positive or negative. This shit's amazing and we're in for a great new era of Green Day. I've had TADIKM and LMNB stuck in my head all day and they're so good! I am just immensely enjoying the ride. Can't wait for all the live performances and promo appearances we'll get soon! I love this band so much!3 points
