Green day unfortunately cannot win in circumstances like this They try something new ... everyone shits on them for it and demands a return to old green day and now when they do that people complain that they are "boring" and "recycling that same old stuff again". It's a weird cycle 😅13 points

Saviors will literally save me. By the time it's released, I'm gonna need new Green Day music more than ever. For real. I'm so happy but I also want to cry my heart out.8 points

I think Father to Son will be the 3rd/next proper single with a video…I think Father to Son will be beautiful, epic and a huge success7 points

Okay, I was holding off on writing any impressions because I wanted to wait until the song officially came out so I could hear it at it's best and then I also wanted to give the song plenty of time so here goes: The new single as a song? honestly, not my favourite recent single that I've been there for the release of. That probably goes to either Bang Bang or Holy Toledo (if that was even a single). Those songs I fell in love with on first listen, hell, the same can be said for most of RevRad too. This one I liked on first listen, but not loved. However, I cannot physically put into words how happy I am with the overall production of the song. It easily sounds better than both of those two songs, hell, even anything from the last 5 albums in my honest opinion. Everything sounds exactly as I'd hoped but not expected to hear from a Green Day record again... By that I mean this seems like AI/21CB levels of sound quality, mixing, volumes, instrumental sound and variety, song realization etc. Just. pure. eargasm. That being said, I've listened to the song quite a bit now over the last few days and it's definitely grown a lot on me since the first time I heard it. My only real complaint/wish for it is that the solo lasted a bit longer as it's my favorite part of the song and it just comes and goes a bit too quickly, kind of like an orgasm that's over before it even gets a chance to start. I totally understand why the band would have chosen to not go that route and I think it's because at it's musical core, the spirit of the song is supposed to be a short, punchy, power pop flavoured Green Day anthem that tries to do as much as it can in as short a time as possible without making the song feel gimmicky, unfinished or incomplete. I guess you could say this song is kind of like if it were possible to condense 21st Century Breakdown (album) into a delicious little cookie that you can fit in your mouth and finish in one bite. You're obviously not going to get to taste every element of the full thing, but it still tastes really fucking good and I am totally here for it and whatever the rest of the album brings!7 points

“Tik-Tok and taxes” is a perfectly fine lyric. If they find that cringy, don’t let them listen to Troublemaker. BM-excellent tits. Pure Shakespeare. *chef’s kiss*7 points

The insane amount of hate that FOAM gets boggles my mind. To the point where it feels like I'm not listening to the same album everyone else is. It's not their best, and it's a slight deviation from their normal sound, but some of the reactions would lead you to believe it's a hyperpop record or something.6 points

Tbh I'd rather have 1981 than any other that I haven't heard. The more songs we don't hear until the album release the better experience I believe.6 points

Tour dates to be announced next week according to their recent Instagram post. If it’s just this stadium tour and no club/smaller shows I will riot.6 points

HMV vinyl description has this: “Saviors features 15 tracks, and from the aforementioned opening track, 'The American Dream Is Killing Me' to the blissfully ironic “Look Ma, No Brains!" to the fittingly emotional track, “Father To A Son,” this is a deeply felt song cycle that provides the soundtrack for our world on fire – the one we deserve, and the one that we need.” https://hmv.com/store/music/vinyl/saviors-(hmv-exclusive)-coloured-vinyl5 points

To each their own, I guess. I liked FOAM just fine, had fun with it, but this single is Green Day for me. Powerful sound, great lyrics (which imo are not empty social commentary at all, quite the contrary), and no fear of sticking to what they're good at. Those are the main reasons RevRad was so well received: it was a return to form, just like this. But this is even better, even bolder. Guys, they're a punk rock/pop punk band. There's only so much they can do before they start sounding like something else entirely. And we don't want something else, we want Green Day. They have side projects for different sounds, we can always enjoy those on the side too. At the end of the day, you can't please everyone. I'm just glad I'm very, very, very pleased this time around lol5 points

I was just listening to Underground Garage on Sirius and Michael Des Barres played BOTH SIDES of TADIKM single for the 'Coolest Song(s) In The World This Week' segment. He specifically mentioned it being a digital release w/ the a-side released 10/24 (duh) and LMNB being released digitally on 10/31... I crapped ass when he started the intro and said he was playing both sides. I lowered the windows (even though it's 40*F), cranked the volume, and drove around on full stoke for 5 minutes. Dopamine and serotonin are awesome!5 points

Per Instagram, LMNB comes out next week along with some “news”, tour officially getting dates most likely! https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cy4aqkVvzZ-/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==5 points

I can appreciate your perspective and you’re very much in the majority, but for me it’s not about what is and isn’t ’Green Day’. Green Day doesn’t need to exist in a time capsule labeled “2008”, they’ve always been capable of growth. “Bulldoze your family home, now it’s a condo!” is not insightful or interesting. It’s played out. It’s generic. Pave paradise to put up a parking lot, right? “Zieg heil to the president gas man” was powerful and fresh at the time. “Is the cop or am I the one who’s really dangerous?” at least had a touch of insight. Hell, “There’s no shame. I’ll take it if it bleeds. The famous to the infamous is what I want to be.” is a fresh, provocative lyric just a few years old now that was specific commentary on a subject as opposed to what’s in my opinion a series of generalized echo-chamber one-liners. Again, no disrespect intended, I’m glad everyone’s enjoying it. My expectations for new Green Day are obviously at odds with the rest of the fanbase.4 points

Jeez... hope ekim doesn't stumble upon my band's GD cover over there. Such a disservice!4 points

If they announce tour dates I hope US dates don't go on sale right away I've got a lot of booked up weekdays until Thanksgiving and I'm gonna have a hard time buying tickets. Do the Euro dates first. I hate ticket buying what a stressful PITA4 points

If the GD fandom likes the album, at least a good amount of the fandom likes it, it will perform better than FOAMF. That won't be hard unless it gets similar reception to FOAMF. But really, FOAMF's reception was as bad as you can imagine. Among fans, among casual listeners, mainstream audience, critics. I honestly can't see this being just a repeat of FOAMF, based on what we've heard they seem to be going in a more "Green Day" sounding direction which off the bat I think puts it ahead of FOAMF. I wouldn't be expecting it to really do any better than RevRad. Maybe slightly. But those expecting American Idiot, Dookie or even Nimrod/21CB levels of success are honestly mad I think I don't think the issue is with GD being less successful with singles than albums. It's just much easier to reach no. 1 on the US Billboard 200 (albums weekly chart) than the US Hot 100 (singles chart). The Hot 100 chart is filled with mainstream pop and rap stuff, rock is rarely seen there at all these days. Whereas rock bands still get on the Billboard 200, they won't reach the top positions as often but they can still reach the no. 1 position from time to time4 points

There was this one advertisment text that talked only about the Songs "TADIKM" "Look Ma, No Brains!" and "Father to a son". Thats why i think that Father to a son might actually be the next single after look ma4 points

I don’t know if this is going to steal anyone’s thunder but a new Beatles song is being released November 2. Can you imagine announcing a single and a massive tour and getting upstaged by The BEATLES in 2023??4 points

100%. If you hang around long enough you get taken for granted. I used to hear “fuck Rush always comes around the tickets are so expensive yada yada yada” Neil died and the story changed to “I wish I could have seen them!”3 points
-
Okay, they can stop with the Vinyl variants now. Now it's just overkill haha3 points
-
For the 3rd single which should be out by December , i guess they'll put out a ballad?? They have a good record with ballads and I think it's a good move since it'll draw in more audience before the album release.3 points

Is it just me or does Warner put way more effort in marketing for the album than they did for FOAM? Can't imagine that I read so many articles about FOAM like I did for Saviors so far 🤔3 points

I haven't heard such great production for the first single since Know Your Enemy. And that's 14 years ago. Rob Cavallo's touch:) Let's see what the Saviours will have to offer more! I can't believe FOAM era is finally over, man I needed some good fucking music in my life.3 points

Yes, she will get big! She's a Colombian giant red leg and they can get up to 8 inches (measured diagonally from back leg to front leg). I will probably not see her grow to this size, because I am planning to donate her to our university teaching collection when I graduate... if I can bare to part with her.3 points

When is Melon going to weigh in on the song?3 points

Why are we still doing blink v green day? Who cares? Imo both bands are great at what they do. They've both released kick ass music. Let's just enjoy it.3 points
-
The promotion with the teasers and stuff was cool but why have we got no interviews since the song release? Why have we not heard anything about TV performances? That's the kind of thing they should be doing now to get the word out there, right? If people weren't looking at shorts on YouTube, they may not even know about the new GD music video even if they're subscribed to the band. It's very easy to miss one music video in your subscription feed if you're subscribed to a decent number of channels3 points

The Beatles and The Rolling Stones are back so are Green Day, Blink and Sum. Are we in 1960 or in 2000's?3 points

Agreed and this is what makes the arts so interesting but difficult and frustrating. I don’t love Foam but I like it and I totally respect what they were going for, I liked Revrad but felt it was a little….safe is the best I can come up with. If that’s the best description then it’s totally understandable. Saviours is too early to judge, I think a few months from now I may like LMNB better than ADIKM but this is my band and I’m glad to have them back. It is totally Green Day which for some folk is good, not for others, c’est la vie! These guys have been doing this for 30 odd years, they are damned if they do, damned if they don’t. If you like it, great, if you don’t go listen to something else.2 points
-
It’s all totally subjective and that’s cool. The band have always taken sidesteps in different directions with every album. It’s important not to stagnate. FOAMF wasn’t a side step. It was a misstep. Like on-the-Wikipedia-page-for-albums-considered-the-worst-ever, misstep. It’s stopped being subjectively bad, and crossed over into being objectively bad. It feels like they needed to get that out of their system, and I’m actually glad to be in musically safer territory. I’m all for rehashing old ideas if it means we don’t get another FOAMF.2 points

If it’s true I like the idea of them releasing three songs that sound very different from each other and can appeal to many different audiences. Say what you want about Green Day’s “iconic sound” but you can never accuse them of having songs that all sound alike like many bands2 points
-
That was fun. It’s amazing how many different songs were picked it reminds you how great their legacy is. Cool how one guy said they inspired him to not just be one thing as a band when he heard American Idiot and Michelle Branch’s story is the best!2 points

Just the song. It might just get lumped in on his weekly track round up. While he usually feels the exact opposite as I do, he does surprise me sometimes. He didn't love the new blink record but didn't tear it apart like I expected either. He observed the biggest problem with blink, which started with the Skiba era: over-production. I usually don't care about that, but blink really are sounding super robotic with all their vocals blending together behind a massive monolithic wall of sound. With such unique voices, that is crazy. All bands change. But with Green Day, I could listen to a song on 39/smooth and listen to American Dream and still hear that it's the same musicians. But blink from 1995 versus 2023? WHOA. Not a criticism, just what time can do to a band's sound. Here's a mild criticism though: I'm glad Travis Barker isn't working with Green Day right now. 😅2 points

ha...you're thinking about it way too deeply "don't want your huddled masses, tiktok, and taxes" that's the battle cry of EVERY current right-wing, U.S. congressperson at moment 1. "border crisis!" 2. "china is stealing our info" 3. "defund the irs" the dots don't even need to be connected...it's virtually plagiarized2 points

Seems like you’ve never listened to green day before. I mean ultra conservatives are the worst, but rev rad and the new network album have criticized a lot of different people2 points

Just stop being an asshole to people on here you do that all the time2 points

Why do you have to be so obnoxious to people? Can't you just let people do what they like to do without criticizing them? I'm sure people aren't posting covers of songs to be shit on by people like you2 points

The TikTok line is fine. People are just programmed to hate any mention of social media in songs even if it's relevant. Yes, I get that it can date the songs. But TikTok is going to be around for much longer. This is not going to date the song any more than Holiday dates itself to the Iraq war or 21CB dates itself to the 21st century2 points
-
The line about TikTok isn't even that stupid. It fits the song and the verse in question very well. Fight me.2 points

Nothing’s worse than musical gate keeping and music elitism. That’s way more cringe than a line about TikTok.2 points
