  2. A band should always make music for themselves first.

  4. As an amateur music producer I feel very triggered when someone compares any work of Green Day to burnt pizza. For most people it's impossible to get even close to the sound that they can create in a studio. They are working their asses off that every single element and instrument of a song fits together, from crafting an amazing guitar tone (which took over years) to trying out a massive amount of cymbals every time so that they don't clash with the guitars in any way or to have three tracks of bass guitar layered on each other without any phase issues. Sure we can hear a difference between the production of FOAM and the production of 21st Century Breakdown, but these differences are on such a high level that we are far away from taking anything as burnt food.

  5. Literally the only one being parasocial here is you. Everyone else just sees the band as human beings. You see them as robots who are required to make the music you personally like even though the band don't know you and don't want to make the music you want them to make A much better comparison to the "I’m going to open a pizza shop and serve burned pizza and say “I don’t owe you anything” when customers complain" thing is a pizza place you're a fan of adding something new to the menu and you saying "This restaurant owes me something that I personally like" when there's plenty of other things on the menu for you to choose if you're not a fan of the new item they've added and you're literally just paying for what you've ordered. If you order something from a restaurant, all that they owe you is to provide you with the product (not burnt). You may like it, you may not. But that's what they owe you and that's what they will provide you with if you order it Really funny that you think I'm triggered. I just find it hilarious that people think they are owed music that they personally like. The band don't owe us shit. They can do what they like. If they want to continue making FOAMFs, then fine. I probably won't be into them but that's fine. They're still going to have a ton of fans who will listen to their old and new stuff, that will go see them perform live on tour etc.

  6. Come on now the "owing us something" comment is just silly. You can have expectations of a band and don't support them if you don't like them or the music anymore but saying they owe you something is silly.

  7. I'm more an observer around here these days but just wanted to drop a post to say I'm looking forward to the new era, especially with Rob being back. Despite the trilogy not being their best work, I still think it maintains that signature Green Day energy throughout that I think has been lacking since, apart from the odd track like Bang Bang or Sugar Youth. Trilogy is probably also the last time that I didn't have issue with the sound of Billie's vocals. From a UK fan's perspective, hoping that they'll finally return to play one of the big festivals like Reading and Leeds or Download for the first time ever. Notably they last played R&L in 2013 where they played Dookie in full. My dream would be them returning to the festival but playing both Dookie and AI in full next year along with the new stuff. Just on how commercially successful the new music may or may not be, I honestly think that a large factor in that these days more than ever is how news worthy and visible you are. Blink have been news worthy for the last decade whereas Green Day haven't been for the most part. Members leaving / joining builds up hype, not to mention the amount of features other artists like blink do. The guys in Green Day seem content to keep themselves to themselves which is fine of course, but in 2023 you kind of always need to be out there and visible to remain in society's awareness. Take Dave Grohl for example, the dude absolutely loves being a rockstar and just seems to enjoy being out there and having fun with it, and the Foos are constantly doing shows. Here in the UK at least GD are generally a solid bet to reach number one with their albums, and I'll certainly be doing my bit this time around to try get the new album there too! I skipped the Dookie anniversary stuff because I found the cost to be absolutely insane, but I'm hoping that any new merch will be much more affordable and of course just buying one CD rather than several as it was for Dookie 30 will save the £££.

  8. Dear God. if you don’t like an album, don’t buy it. if you don’t like the music don’t listen to it. You can only respect a band (or anyone) that does what it wants and feels driven to do. Many people (yes, I know, sweeping statement) do. It’s called integrity. Some things will appeal to you more than others.

  12. Yeah it was performed live only a few times in 09 when the band played the whole new album. Also Billie Joe said that it's one of the most personal and difficult songs to listen to as it's directly about his substance abuse. Beautiful song really one of my all time favorites of Green Day.

  13. I hope everyone understood my earlier comment as a little tongue in cheek (and goodness knows I meant no offense by it). Yes the band aren’t literally life saving surgeons. But as someone who has dealt with a lot of mental illness, Green Day’s music has been nothing short of therapeutic for me. It’s given me a space to question and deal with my gender and sexuality, I’ve made friendships I probably wouldn’t have had otherwise, and has both given me some of the best times of my life and occasionally the will to go on. But of course my investment in it is more emotional than financial.

  15. “Band’s job is to please fans”. lol, they’re not a wedding music band hired to play a list of songs agreed with the newlyweds. They are not providing a service to you, they are making art, which you are entitled to not like and not buy. As you are entitled to not be their fan, no one is forcing you to be one, you didn’t sign a contract or payed a fee you cannot get refunded. They have a contract with a record label, not with you. You are entitled to your opinion, but they owe you absolutely nothing, especially when it comes to composing and releasing music. That’s the difference between an artist and an artisan, professions you are clearly confusing and mixing up.

  17. You are so fucking entitled. "I'm owed music that I personally like, even if the band doesn't want to make the kind of music I like."

  21. I would say not Billie Joe and if it is that would be a huge departure from them. Hm, the more I listen the more unsure I am. It’s very Beatlesque.

  23. It’s not free, it comes out of your paycheck. You pay for it in higher taxes and many people still need supplemental private insurance. Not saying universal healthcare isn’t a great thing but it’s neither perfect nor free

  24. THE TRILOGY RULES! Too bad they weren’t quite firing on all cylinders all together for some reason. The bass was tight. Jason White is amazing. Tré is the best. The songwriting is really great on a lot of Trilogy songs. Stay the Night, Fell for You, Dirty Rotten Bastards… If the new album is like the Trilogy but the band firing on all cylinders it should be really great. Can’t wait! Razor blades. Cherry Bombs. Too Dumb to Die. Bouncing off the Wall. Chasing a Ghost. I don’t know! I’m firing on all cylinders tonight!

  26. Guys, let's just stay positive about the new era!! Just a few more weeks to go!!!! But for anyone that's not going to like it, that's okay, it's your opinion that counts, but don't go around trying to convince everyone that it actually sucks just because you personally don't like it!!!

  27. You realise you can listen to the album before you buy it, right? You're not obligated to buy it if you're not satisfied with it The band isn't offering you some essential service that you need in order to stay alive like a doctor would I'm just saying that someone telling you that a band doesn't owe individual fans (all of whom have different tastes in music) anything is not the same as a doctor saying "I don't owe you anything" when their job is literally to help their patients

  36. it's only been up for like a day, how do you even find something like this? my guess that it could be someone else's song but they put AI Billie over the vocals, but it doesn't sound that bad. I mean we are close to an announcement so leaks are possible? I don't have enough info to be certain on anything lol With how prominent A.I. is I literally cannot be certain anymore 😭

  38. I am with you in this one. The comparison is really absurd. Like my good friend Max Payne said: "everything is a cliché until it happens to you" I have traveled around the world, met amazing people who I can call my friends, I got laid, I escaped suicide, and I have really healthy and long relationship with someone because this band. Call me what you want, I don't care. Music is important to me as the air I breathe. It makes you think, it gives you confort and dispair, a shelter and a drain. It really helps at a level no medical personnel can do. I can't imagine how void life would be without music. Nothing can top it.

  41. I mean comparing Green Day to health professionals should be hilarious but not the way it’s being done on this thread by some people. This thread was getting even more boring than usual. These are quality posts posts though! Some people know what we need! I need to fire on most cylinders and blue pills! I will be firing on most cylinders tonight! Happy Saturday! Hi @Little Boy Named Booze cheers!

  42. In my house, beers are referred to as cylinders. If I'm firing in all of them, mistakes have been/will be made
