I saw them countless times during that era (and The Network), but I always had to get tickets the regular way! The only thing I got for free was a ticket to Storytellers!7 points

It's 2023 and we're talking about Green Day maybe are about to release a new Rock Opera album. Isnt that fact amazing? I know we shouldnt have too high hopes, but the fact, that its so realistic is hyping me so much.7 points

If the album does end up being “American Dream”, “The American Dream Is Killing Me”, or “Sweet American Dream” I believe it’s only natural to assume it’s going to be a politically fueled album. I can see how there could be comparisons to American Idiot due to having “American” in the title. I’m thinking it’s going to be a new story just like how 21CBD introduced a new set of characters and plot. Still political, just a new story that has a rock opera element which sort of makes it the sequel to AI. I think that’s going to be the same move here, so sort of like the 3rd act of the trilogy of political rock operas. I know people sort of attach RevRad with AI & 21st, but it’s not really a rock opera. It does have a very loose concept that sort of connects songs together, but it’s very very loose. Ever since the teases have been coming since last year I’ve gotten nothing but good vibes about album 14. I’m so pumped. Im so ready to be invested in a plot that holds weight and meaning. With the recent developments my anticipation has skyrocketed with the idea we could…keyword COULD be getting a political rock opera. I am most definitely overhyping this idea…but one can….dream, right 😉7 points

A slow and plodding song that doesn’t really go anywhere just made for a boring choice. Nuclear Family, Stay the Night, Kill the DJ, Let Yourself Go all would’ve been better choices. I don’t mind Oh Love in the context of the album but as a song I prefer the shorter radio edit. Whether or not any of them would’ve been more successful it’s tough to say, but I don’t see how having something a little more high energy could’ve hurt them. But by 2012 rock was on the wane anyway so I bet the difference would’ve been negligible to the trilogy’s ultimate fate (Billie Joe’s substance abuse issues being the larger factor)4 points

Don't forget Billie wearing that 1972 vest thing during one of the shows too. Until we hear the real story, I maintain the belief that the project was initially going to be an EP or something and 1972 was the title. It was expected to be out much earlier and that's why they started teasing it back then. Then the EP organically became an album the more they worked on it, and somewhere along the way the 1972 title was dropped.4 points

I would still assume February. I worked at many record labels back in my 20s, and these rollouts are carefully planned and spaced out.4 points

I'm so starved for the new gd era I don't care what Billie's hair looks like 😂 Though I do miss COVID era curls 🥰4 points

Just wanna chime in here and say that's probably not the case. The music video timeline/turnaround is really fast. I know the director of Blink's last video and they shot like two weeks before release and that one had a ton of green screen work to do.3 points

What if 1972 turned into something bigger during the process? Maybe it is just one part of the album. Given all these references, maybe they will come back to an act structure or something similar; just a guess :)3 points

While I definitely think that this will be a political album, I'm not so sure that it will be a rock opera. I know that they could have changed their minds, but I'm pretty sure that Billie said that he really didn't want to do a rock opera again after 21st Century Breakdown. I think that we can confidently expect an overarching theme with the album, I really don't think that this is going to be a character driven album at all. I think that we're going to be seeing something more in the direction of a political concept album. Rock operas are a type of concept album, but there are differences. I think crafting an entire story with a plot and characters is partially what turned them off of making another rock opera in the first place. I think we're going to see a more generalized perspective. Likely just Billie Joe and the feelings of the American public. No Jesus of Suburbia, St. Jimmy, and Whatsername, or Christian and Gloria. Obviously we still have no idea what this album is going to be like, and while I do think that we're on the right track, I think that it is a mistake to expect another rock opera from them. Green Day are very much in the been there, done that mindset. They like to look forward more than back. Not to say that they won't look back, but I think if they were going to recycle elements from their past body of work, they're still going to want to make something new out of it. It needs to be different enough. Also, regarding your point about rev rad, I totally agree. I would not call that a rock opera at all. I think because Green Day's most politically charged albums have both been rock operas, people will automatically assume that a general theme and more political content means rock opera. Rock operas are story driven. That is what separates them from other conceptual works of music. The albums are like books. I honestly wouldn't even call rev rad a concept album. Sure, it has a theme, but it's still not solid enough to fully be considered that.3 points

It's really exciting!!! After waiting since 2021, and now we're just weeks away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And now some lucky fans are working with them on the new music video and hearing the new single right now as we speak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!3 points

October to February is such a long wait. Hopefully since it's late October it will be released early February to cut down on the giant gap.3 points

Ik I have a lot of catching up to do here, but back in the USA is so criminally underrated. I would love to see them play it live one time.3 points

They wanted to fuck with the fans and call FOAM American Idiot Part 2. And now you're telling me the album RIGHT after FOAM would be AI 2 for real? Nah it can't be a sequel. It can be a rock opera, a story, political, whatever you want but I don't believe in a sequel of AI.3 points

3/4 of the band's biggest hits from the 00's were BOBD, WMUWSE and 21 Guns. These were all slower singles. If you wanted a successful single, it makes perfect sense to release a song like Oh Love first, it's definitely the only song from Uno that even remotely resembles those kinds of songs. American Idiot was the only fast paced song to get to the level of success of those tracks. KYE, and even Holiday, the other fast singles (that were actual properly promoted as there was practically no promotion for 21CB singles after KYE and 21 Guns) weren't as big of hits compared to the other hits on their respective albums Again, I'm only talking about in terms of commercial success. If we're talking about which song would be best for the more hardcore fanbase, then yeah there's a strong argument to make that Oh Love was a poor choice. Idk if it was even the band who chose Oh Love as the first single or if it was the label behind it2 points

I mean it was still the year that they were all born. Still has sentimental value even if they didn't end up using it.2 points

Pacing wise I'm gonna guess similar to FOAMF in terms of buildup. October/September single, album out in February/March. 2-3 singles in between, another single on release day.2 points

I'm just coming into this conversation, so sorry if this is out of context. When Billie Joe was not playing his guitar on stage, Jason took over lead on guitar as you said. This I'm sure was all planned to allow Billie Joe to interact with us. I think the most amazing GD show I've ever been to, is Milton Keynes for the AI tour. Yes, Billie Joe would sing and play his guitar. Then he'd stop, go to one end of the stage lift up his arms, and the crowd complied. He did the same on our side. He'd run up and down the stage. Talk to us again issuing further instructions, our conductor our boss because he is Billie Joe. All part of the set, without it the show would be incomplete. I hope he does it again.2 points
