  1. I honestly think if it wasn't for rehab and the meltdown, the trilogy would have performed relatively well and there would be a much more positive perception of it in the fandom and public. It has its flaws, like any other record, but the tide turned on them for this one, unfortunately in a way that they couldn't really control.

  7. Loved the point in amazing video Quatro, where there's a board with three sections. Each section has cards attached, each card with a name of a track from the 3 albums. Billie Joe was holding a card with the name of of a track trying to decide which section (album) to put it. He chucks it at the board to see where it lands. lol. For me, Billie Joe came across as though he was a least enjoying recording the Trilogy, seemed happy then. Before sadly, he needed to get help for his illness. Thankfully he fully recovered.

  12. Great question. I don’t know really how I feel about the drum sound tbh. It’s not the area that’s sticking out the most for me to criticize but I also love the drum sounds on other records better. The snare is eq’d pretty similar to other records but it sounds like that time they added some different reverb to it possibly. When I listen to each song on it’s own the production doesn’t seem bad. It’s CLA, they’re all pro mixes, I just think 3 albums that sound so alike across 37 songs might really be the issue. Each one should have been treated as it’s own standalone record. As for 21cb I doubt the mixing would be that much different, it’s also CLA. Perhaps Rob would maybe take the songs into a different direction, maybe the tracklist would have been different? All I know is the best decision ever made during this time was slotting in Murder City and pulling Drama Queen. I don’t know who influenced that but whoever it was thank you x1 million. He also said this song is called St Jimmy during Are We The Waiting

  16. Well Clear Channel is near a monopoly so if radio stops playing them its most likely due to clear channel. The radio stations that kept playing GD were the alternative stations not owned by clear channel. But theyre very small in numbers compared to what Clear Channel owns.

  17. Pop Disaster Tour 2 Green Day can open for The Network. Jimmy Eat World mentioned they can’t make it so the Foxboro Hot Tubs took their place

  18. A tide is natural, what happened to them after IHeart was forced. It was not the first time Clear Channel essentially attempted to cancel Green Day. It’s even mentioned in Bullet In A Bible. The event is publicly known as the “Clear Channel Memorandum” and saw Green Day get labeled as music that was “anti-american” and “not appropriate for post 9-11”. In the writing they mentioned only Brain Stew was selected for that category however, that isn’t true. If they started to list multiple songs then Green Day would have more grounds to sue. They ended up pretty much shutting them down entirely in their practice. This is probably why I only ever heard Green Day in movies years before AI.

  19. Dos at least stands out to me, not really in terms of its production but at least it has more of a Foxboro vibe or more experimentation that makes it a bit more of its own thing. Most of Tré just sounds like it could be on Uno. Basically all of Tré except Brutal Love, Dirty Rotten Bastards and The Forgotten

  20. Could it be about fame? Obviously some of the Network is kinda nonsense so it could mean anything Still love both albums

  21. Fuck you're right edit: I made a mistake oops however I would like to point out that back in AI times he said 'this song's called Novacaine' a few times and then the album comes out and it's 'Give Me Novacaine'... So I'd now like to double down on my idiocy and raise the possibility that the song is called Give Me 1981

  24. This is what really annoys me about radio, to me, they should constantly be playing new stuff by everybody, let us hear new music and we will decide if we like it but they have become the supposed arbiters of taste, so we get to hear what they think we should be listening to! I knew lots of music was taken off playlists in the US after 9/11 but I don’t remember hearing about Clear Channel trying to cancel them. Quite a leap to get back in favour then.

  25. I believe Dookie got Kerplunk over the 1 million mark at some point. I believe the rest was from post AI. Once GD got through the mid 2000s issue with Lookout they were able to improve distribution. I had to wait 6 months to get my 1039 and Kerplunk cds when I was a kid.

  26. It would be so classy if Green Day and The Network gave up on their feud, whether it was fake or real to begin with. If they were to do a song together, would it be on a Green Day or Network release? Or a stand alone single? I'm imagining what Billie and Mongo would sound like harmonizing and it's pretty wild. or Mongo and Mike. That would sound crazy. #moneymoney1982

  30. I liked how Mike’s bass sounded on the trilogy but I felt like the guitars were just off. I think in some way they probably were going for this sound and if Uno was a standalone album it would have worked for that. But to hear that across 37 songs it becomes tiring. It would have been a lot more true to Green Day if they made a trilogy of albums and each record was mixed and mastered for it’s own style rather than 3 albums that are connected with the same mixing and mastering. Do you remember when/where this was mentioned? I remember possibly reading something like this at the time but it was in passing and not too memorable for me. It must have been something of a personal nature. I feel like Rob was busy at the time and maybe they felt like they were more of a priority than he felt they were? Either way it led them to Vig and he did a great job with 21cb so it was for a reason. Green Day has been fairly fortunate with producers up until recently. I just don’t think Butch Walker fits the mold. The band in a box feel really hurt the band for foam and Green Day needs to get back to quality guitar tones.

  31. I think you nailed it here, we just need a healthy mix rather than sticking with the same method over and over. And totally agree about Mike’s backing vocals pre-AI days. It was a massive part of the band’s sound.

  32. Listening to the uptempo full band arrangement of Good Riddance from the Audible, I think it would be a great way to freshen up this song for encores. Billie could still play acoustic but they could play it as a full band, it’s such a fun romp. You could still end with Good Riddance but change it up.

  33. Also based on what they said in Cuatro, the band and Cavallo had been apart for a while and they referred to his return as “rekindling the friendship”. So he may have been treading lightly and just glad to be there to play a more supportive role rather than coming in heavy handed with a lot to say. Billie had a definite idea of wanting a clean sound for these songs and he did his best to deliver that and not do too much. I like when Mike gets the occasional whole lines and verses to sing. Even backing vocals he gets lost in the mix these days. His voice is a nice counterpoint to Billie’s and suits certain character voices. It’s what I like so much about the Network, how their voices are balanced more and used to great effect on certain songs. Reminds me of what The Beatles would do, knowing which songs would suit which vocalist.

  34. Had a dream that Green Day was performing at an awards ceremony, and the voiceover said, "when we come back, a performance by Green Day" when Billie grabbed the mic and said "2 of the 3 members of Green Day". Cut to commercial and I was trying to figure out who wouldn't be playing. I remember that Tre was injured, figured it must be him, and was trying to figure out who'd be playing in his place. Chris Dugan? David from Prima Donna? Woke up before the commercial ended though.

  35. Completely possible but I don’t think its that. Combination of tech issues and of course the level of familiarity. I always found when playing live if there was any mistake (and yes they do happen at all levels) it was usually on new songs. Your crew or sound people never performed their duties for that specific song before, you need to remember new (and possibly ever changing) lyrics and you don’t really know yet how it comes across to the audience. Adding in technical issues with that just makes it feel like a doomed moment. What really sucks is that as music fans, musicians and just in general people who dive deeper into the band, we understand what happened but most people won’t. It will just be a “that song sucked” moment rather than “I want to hear this song properly”. I’m waiting for a legit studio version before my official judgement. I personally see some potential for the song. I cant wait to see what CLA did with these songs. A really great guitar tone could make this song pop. And of course just basing this off the last record, we need someone to EQ Billie’s voice properly. Butch Walker seemed to get that “band in a box” type sound which doesn’t work with this band at all. We need larger than life guitars with good tone. We need Tre’s great drum sound back. I would also like the band on backing vocals again, not just Billie on multiple tracks. I dont mind if he’s in the backing vocal track along with the others but not solo.

  37. Excuse my ignorance, but I vaguely remember reading about how it all works on stage which I find fascinating. From what you've said with your own stage experience you will be able to correct me. I think the article said that there's so much distraction on stage, plus noise of crowd, that the earpiece in Billie Joe's ear keeps him in contact with his own voice and other band members instruments ? Making sure your in right key and tempo? So when it failed, he lost contact with everything, so it must be so easy to get lost as to where you are. But like a true professional, Billie Joe carried on knowing exactly where he should be when the technology worked again. As well as playing his guitar, Billie Joe is singing, reacting and talking to the crowd whilst listening to the device in his ear. Nice one Billie Joe. When he walked away on stage after the song, I could imagine he was well pissed off. You've worked on sharing a brand new song with everyone, and it gets fucked up thanks to the shortcomings of technology. Still I bet they had a laugh about it later. That's live music for yer.. Bet it'll be perfect next time

  38. I kind of agree with you but I think people miss the point of FOAM. It was never meant to be a “deep” album, remember back to pre-pandemic 2020 when everyone was hoping for another “roaring 20s”, many were still climate change deniers and everything had to be instant, both gratification and disposability. That’s the setting for Foam to me, hence the duration. It’s a party album to dance and have fun too.

  39. You kind of undermined your whole argument there with that last sentence 😉 But I get what you’re saying. Dos might have made a decent Tubbies record but the Trilogy is what it was meant to be and I like it that way. I still find those songs fresh and fun I’m glad they gave us so much music and didn’t hold back and even still it was a fraction of the amount of songs they had. Maybe we’ll get a deluxe release someday with some of the thirty or so songs that didn’t make it

  43. People talking about how lucky blink fans are that they're getting something even though Edging was released like 10 months ago and the album is still not out yet. I would not prefer to have gotten a lead single months ago if it meant it would be another year before we got to hear the rest of the album. Especially if it was a track as mediocre as Edging is

  44. It's just occurred to me that we don't actually know this song is called 1981. Usually with these one line chorus songs that is how they'd name it, but we don't know for sure -- would be interesting if we see something else on the record.
