  1. Fuck you're right edit: I made a mistake oops however I would like to point out that back in AI times he said 'this song's called Novacaine' a few times and then the album comes out and it's 'Give Me Novacaine'... So I'd now like to double down on my idiocy and raise the possibility that the song is called Give Me 1981

  2. Billie Joe literally said right before playing the song ''This song is called 1981''

  3. You guys have no idea how fucking excited I would be to hear any of the tracks from Trilogy live one more time. Besides shitty Oh Live attempt this year and the most random Nuclear Family and Amy performances from RR Tour, these songs have been long gone from the setlist. Longshot atleast brought Stay the Night back but even that project seems to be dead again. 8th Avenue Serenade is just the best ❤️

  5. I like the production of the Trilogy. Everything sounds very balanced and has its place in the mix. Especially the background vocals! In Chris Lord-Alges Mix With The Masters video about Boulevard of Broken Dreams he shows that the background vocals at that time were one pair of Mike's doubled vocals left and right and one pair of Billie's doubled vocals. The combination of both of their vocals really fits their songs!

  6. Great question. I don’t know really how I feel about the drum sound tbh. It’s not the area that’s sticking out the most for me to criticize but I also love the drum sounds on other records better. The snare is eq’d pretty similar to other records but it sounds like that time they added some different reverb to it possibly. When I listen to each song on it’s own the production doesn’t seem bad. It’s CLA, they’re all pro mixes, I just think 3 albums that sound so alike across 37 songs might really be the issue. Each one should have been treated as it’s own standalone record. As for 21cb I doubt the mixing would be that much different, it’s also CLA. Perhaps Rob would maybe take the songs into a different direction, maybe the tracklist would have been different? All I know is the best decision ever made during this time was slotting in Murder City and pulling Drama Queen. I don’t know who influenced that but whoever it was thank you x1 million. He also said this song is called St Jimmy during Are We The Waiting

  9. Quantity of the songs on the trilogy, sometimes makes me forget how lovely these songs are. I'm not sure if we will ever have an anniversary edition of the trilogy but these songs always make a smile on my face. -Dirty Rotten Bastards -Brutal Love -X-Kid -Baby Eyes -Rusty James -Missing You -8th Ave Serenade -Little Boy Named Train -Sweet 16

  10. That’s part of his process though, and it’s something he’s always done. I wouldn’t consider that a mark against the quality of songwriting. It’s just that most of the time you don’t know that subpar songs have been cannibalized to make better songs. Look how surprised we were to find Church on Sunday - a great song that tells a coherent story about compromise in a relationship - borrowed bits from Black Eyeliner. Sometimes lyrics that are reused can take on new meaning and suddenly fit like jigsaw pieces where they didn’t quite fit before.

  11. The word "Bang" is in the chorus so maybe it'll be "Bang Bang 2". Makes perfect sense!

  12. @Little Boy Named Booze is absolutely right, as always. There are two sources that recorded the song in Quebec. The first one below has the intro with Billie Joe announcing the song as 1981 and is therefore the complete performance. The second one below is from within the crowd which has the best feeling for being there, but sadly the intro is cut. (Maybe this is the one you have seen)

  13. What do you think about the lyrics of 'The Art Of The Deal With The Devil' ? May it have a deeper meaning? I love it.

  14. How do you feel about the overall drum sound in the trilogy? I always thought there was something up with the snare, but can't put my finger on it? And it would be such an epic project for someone to remix/re-record 21CB songs in the style of Rob Cavallo. What would be different the major differences?

  15. I liked how Mike’s bass sounded on the trilogy but I felt like the guitars were just off. I think in some way they probably were going for this sound and if Uno was a standalone album it would have worked for that. But to hear that across 37 songs it becomes tiring. It would have been a lot more true to Green Day if they made a trilogy of albums and each record was mixed and mastered for it’s own style rather than 3 albums that are connected with the same mixing and mastering. Do you remember when/where this was mentioned? I remember possibly reading something like this at the time but it was in passing and not too memorable for me. It must have been something of a personal nature. I feel like Rob was busy at the time and maybe they felt like they were more of a priority than he felt they were? Either way it led them to Vig and he did a great job with 21cb so it was for a reason. Green Day has been fairly fortunate with producers up until recently. I just don’t think Butch Walker fits the mold. The band in a box feel really hurt the band for foam and Green Day needs to get back to quality guitar tones.

  16. Can't wait for the 20th anniversary tour when they play the entire trilogy from front to back every night. It will easily be their best selling tour (maybe best selling of all time in the history of music) just because of how beloved the trilogy is.

  17. Billie has mentioned a few times that they weren't on good terms for a period of time. But that was all resolved by the time the trilogy rolled around obviously.

  18. Completely possible but I don’t think its that. Combination of tech issues and of course the level of familiarity. I always found when playing live if there was any mistake (and yes they do happen at all levels) it was usually on new songs. Your crew or sound people never performed their duties for that specific song before, you need to remember new (and possibly ever changing) lyrics and you don’t really know yet how it comes across to the audience. Adding in technical issues with that just makes it feel like a doomed moment. What really sucks is that as music fans, musicians and just in general people who dive deeper into the band, we understand what happened but most people won’t. It will just be a “that song sucked” moment rather than “I want to hear this song properly”. I’m waiting for a legit studio version before my official judgement. I personally see some potential for the song. I cant wait to see what CLA did with these songs. A really great guitar tone could make this song pop. And of course just basing this off the last record, we need someone to EQ Billie’s voice properly. Butch Walker seemed to get that “band in a box” type sound which doesn’t work with this band at all. We need larger than life guitars with good tone. We need Tre’s great drum sound back. I would also like the band on backing vocals again, not just Billie on multiple tracks. I dont mind if he’s in the backing vocal track along with the others but not solo.

  19. I literally have done my best with derailing the whole situation. ill take it from here, I have to say that the new song has been catchy and stuck in my head for a while. I love the energy of it and I really love the verses. It’s more of what I expect from Green Day. but why 1981? I just feel like this could potentially date them when it comes to newer generations and audiences. Maybe I’m overthinking it? I guess with the last few efforts we tend to go to the negative instantly when thinking of their new music.

  24. Hadn't heard Still Breathing in a while and I don't care what anyone else says, it's one of Green Day's best, most genuine and emotional songs, and it was great live. I remember thinking that Still Breathing and Forever Now at Hyde Park were some of the best performances of Billie's I'd seen. RevRad was a great record. Tempted to finally get a Still Breathing tattoo if I've got any money left over at the end of my next holiday 👀

  25. Figured some people would get a kick out of my Hella Mega story here. So, way back in 2020 I happened to win tickets from my local radio station. I wasn't even going to go if I hadn't won them because meh, big arena shows but since I won them I figured I might as well go. I figured they would be good tickets, maybe not up front but like pretty good seats. Well, last September finally rolls around after it got postponed and we show up and buy the preferred parking pass for the show so we could not be stuck in as much traffic getting out. I bring this up because we saw some people walking around outside with these yellow wristbands on and just for the hell of it we decided to fashion some fake wristbands out of strips of the parking pass and duct tape just to see if maybe it could get us backstage or vip or something. Anyways, I go and grab my tickets from the box office and we head inside. We find our seats and they're like as far away as you can get. So we figured, screw it let's go see if we can find some empty seats that are closer that we can sneak into. So we find some and we start looking at the GA pit area who are all wearing these bright yellow wristbands and notice that security isn't really paying attention, they're just looking to see if you've got the wristband or not. We look at the fake ones that we made just by accident and notice that the color is pretty close and if they aren't paying attention, we might just be able to sneak past. Long story short, we used the fake wristbands we made to sneak into the GA pit area. So in essence I got GA pit tickets for free!
