I'm so fucking happy we finally got to hear that "Christie Road" re-recording after 3 whole decades. I was getting worried this would never see the light of day, but it sounds so beautiful. I was literally crossing my fingers that they would release the Outtakes on its own before the full release, Friday can't come sooner. ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ Plus, getting to hear an early version of "J.A.R." and the "Walking the Dog" demo will be interesting too!2 points

And it says all the outtakes release Friday! Can’t wait to get my grubby little hands all over that re-recorded Christie Rd.2 points

I'm so tired to see the FOAM era photos that are still used for Green Day news in the media. Excited for the new and hopefully funny photoshoots from the new era. I also hope the artwork of the new album is similar to Insomniac or Dookie which includes many details that is more like a collectible poster type. As a bonus track, I Get Around (Beach Boys cover) and Cigarettes & Valentines studio version would be lovely too ( Although I highly doubt it).2 points

1981 seems like a pretty logical choice for a single. It’s fast, catchy, simple and short enough for people’s short attention spans. I think it could do well.1 point

Pretty sure 1972 was the name when they started the project. But midway through they decided to ditch that name and come up with something else.1 point

Not specifically Green Day but the reference to Woodstock 94 at the end made me think of them https://www.theguardian.com/culture/2023/sep/02/burning-man-festival-mud-trapped-shelter-in-place1 point

I don’t have it mixed up, it’s just that for a rock band it’s not common to be nominated for your first major label release. It was a poor choice of words from typing on my phone, not a lack of knowledge. But yeah I can see why someone might think based off the terminology used why I got it mixed up. I meant first major label release not eligibility. My bad! Either way GD has accomplished it all. I wish they would do it again of course but they have had a great journey so far. Tim, I’m curious what your thoughts are on Blink being that you were in the industry at the time. Do you think they were deserving of the accolades GD achieved? Or is the disparity between the two the natural margin between legends and a successful pop punk band? As a musician I’m fairly confident that Blink are not great musicians. They’re sloppy live as a unit which is a major indicator. I think individually Travis is really good but not as good as people think he is. But yeah he’s definitely a pro drummer I have no doubts there. I don’t think highly about their songwriting over the course of their whole career but I think songwriting was probably more of their forte and more of the bread and butter of their success. So I agree with that point even if I do laugh at the narrative that they write nursery rhymes. But there are far less successful bands that had more technical musicians. Rancid is the first to come to mind. I seem to draw a lot of parallels between Blink and NOFX as of late. NOFX have been sloppy live at times but theyre also technically better than Blink. Green Day are pretty solid as a band but there are points of simplicity as well which has been both a compliment and criticism of the band. However, they coordinated some 9 min songs and those happen to be 2 of the best songs in their discography. There’s some really great drumming on those parts and Tre is a major part of the glue that keeps the band together. I think both GD and Blink evolved their sounds and matured but Green Day was the better band so they capitalized on having a higher potential. GD are both better musically as a band and as songwriters. Blink doesn’t have a JOS, a Homecoming, 21cb etc and to be honest they never will achieve that. Even with Travis being a really solid drummer I don’t see him running as a captain for a 9 minute song and when you achieve that feat most of the success of that song falls into the hands of the drummer. But Travis will play some cool backbeats that Tre will never get caught playing. Something like Kill The DJ would have had more impact with a drummer like Travis but on a song like JOS or Homecoming it just has no impact. Tre plays like a punk Keith Moon where Travis is like a punk Bonham. I think thats probably the closest similarity is that both bands have outstanding drummers.1 point

Honest thought: I listened to the live recordings of this song maybe 4-5 times max, but the song got kinda stuck in my head and keep popping up in it once in a while. Probably just me starving for new GD material but that’s how it is.1 point

I love Haushinka. Most of the time I love @That Dude but I just can’t agree with him on this. 😘1 point

Of the many many strange twists and turns in the saga of @That Dude your hatred of Haushinka has got to take the cake. Of all the random Green Day songs to have a vendetta against. Were you bitten by someone named Haushinka as a child? Stole your girl? Burned down your house?1 point

People talking about how lucky blink fans are that they're getting something even though Edging was released like 10 months ago and the album is still not out yet. I would not prefer to have gotten a lead single months ago if it meant it would be another year before we got to hear the rest of the album. Especially if it was a track as mediocre as Edging is1 point

So we have Louder Than Life in September, then When We Were Young in October. So here's what I think. The Louder Than Life setlist will be Dookie heavy, then Dookie 30 comes out on the 29th. In October, we'll get a new single (1981?) and the album announcement At When We Were Young, I could see them play the single, then debut maybe 1 or 2 other songs from the new album.1 point
