Being the first in the WORLD to hear a new song by my favourite band is a dream comes true! Thank you Green Day 🤟9 points

Yeah, would not be surprised if they announce the whole thing by When we were young (October 21) to use those two dates as a promotion platform.8 points

Pros, its a fucking banger with what sounds like kerplunk and the trilogy had a baby. Its good to hear Green day going back to their roots. Cons, This performance is terrible. Billie Joe sounds like he has a pole shoved up his ass and possibly has a throat infection with his rasp. He seems to forget the lyrics half way through and it makes me pray to god that the album version does not sound like this. He seemed at times to almost mutter the lyrics and its honestly kinda painful. I hope with time Billie will be able to perfect the vocal style he's trying to achieve with this song because it does have potential to be good. But that leads to another problem. Much like "Here comes the shock" it is WAYYYY to repetitive. The lyrics are nonsensical and hard to follow. It really makes me wish that Bille would go back to the style of telling some sort of story with his songs instead just songs about girls thrashing their heads to MTV. Honestly I would love to hear a continuation of the story of Saint Jimmy, like some sort of son or someone who's trying to follow his legacy. The whole reason I fell in love with Green Day is because I felt like I could relate to him, his songs had a sense of depth. Especially in American Idiot, 21 century break down, and Revolution Radio. This new popper punk style which Billie seems to have become obsessed with is just not something I can relate to personally. Well some of them are fun, I really miss the days of Billie telling stories like "Jesus Of Suburbia". I guess what I'm saying is Billie needs to do a better Job at paying homage to the great albums of the past, making as dance, and making us deeply feel the emotions that I know Billie is able to make us feel. And for me personally, "1981" just doesn't do any of that.7 points

Billie is looking absolutely enchanting atm. I think the blonde hair makes him look younger, and I like the length it's at now - long enough to make his head look all big and cute and fluffy, but not too long that it obscures his beautiful face! Also nice to see him changing up his outfits a little, first the stripes and now the AI outfit with short sleeves!7 points

I think the song has some potential. My problem is that it was WILDLY out of tune and Billie's voice didn't sound great. My husband and I were kind of looking at each other with cringe face while we were listening. Give me the studio version please! Not writing it off by any means, but also hoping that the fucking amazing group sound we have come to expect from this band comes back.7 points

It would be cool to have another show during the summer in Québec. I hope the next tour isn't gonna come here during the winter. It was literally the first time of my life I saw Green Day during the summer in Québec. It's better to be in line at 8AM during this time. Because in March/April it's a fucking nightmare. Can't wait for an announcement. We're closer than ever now!6 points

Billie (perhaps deliberately) didn’t even say it was a new song. Casual fans probably just assumed it was another deep track they didn’t know and forgot about it quickly thereafter. This is not meant for promotion. I think they just wanted to give something to the uberfans that would recognize it as new and also (possibly mainly) to try it out and see how it sounded live.6 points

I also posted this in the 1981 thread but Hans says the single should be out in the fall!!!6 points

Well it's definitely catchy because I went to bed with it in my head and it's still there6 points

Teasing this song and making us wait maybe 4 months for it is brutal. Casual fans who heard about the debut will have long moved on by then.5 points

Pretty unusual to release anything in December when it’s too late to ship merch for the holidays and everyone takes a break. More likely by October or latest November to take advantage of holiday sales market for pre-orders, concert tickets etc. I’m trusting Rob’s prediction of early 2024 assuming they are timing it to go with a new tour. So a single in Sept/Oct? “Fall-ish” can mean late summer.5 points

Guys, are we already at the point where FOAM is the new trilogy? Is it time to praise the song after all the hate, like we did after the end of the trilogy era? You guys remember during the RevRad tour where all we wanted was trilogy songs? 😉5 points

Ngl that was my first thought when I saw what happened, that they may have played the song without permission, so to speak. It's not exactly out of character for them to do something like that, and it was just so random.5 points

It sounds fine 🤷♀️I'll save my final thoughts for when a recorded version comes out. But glad we finally got something new!5 points

Yeah. Didn’t look like they even rehashed it that much, and if there was any promotion intention behind it why not playing it at the Harley festival as well and/or make any mention of it on social media? Looks like a quite spontaneous move to me.4 points

They do look good...probably alot easier to take off than those sweat soaked skinny jeans stuck to his legs! Somebody must have to help him with that! 😂4 points

I will always be team black. I was actually taking some of the pics from last night's show and running them through a virtual hair dye site.4 points

For anyone without Instagram here's the pics from Billie's post and his Instagram story4 points

Not the best job on the vocals but otherwise okay? It’s repetitive and I can’t say I’m impressed but the performance didn’t feel as confident as I’d expect from them so I believe there’s space to grow I don’t think this is single material (I hope anyway bc if this is the lead single, what’s the filler going to sound like?)4 points

Exciting that we actually got something new! But to me, this honestly sounds like something that could've been on FOAM, which isn't a bad thing for me! Hopefully, an official version is released soon so I'll save my judgments. For now, the song is fine and that hook has been in my head since I heard it, so mission accomplished Green Day. Going by what the guitar tech says I'm thinking GD is going to use the same strategy they did for FOAM: drop a single in September, album comes out early 2024.4 points

I think just the fact they played a new song out of nowhere is the excitement. I mean what the fuck and why?4 points

Two random festival shows after 5 months off are the last place I expected them to pull out The Grouch after 14 years, Stuart after 7 years, Stuck With Me, and a new song. I’m happy that they appear to feel more comfortable ripping through some deep cuts in front of a (mostly) casual audience, but I wonder what changed in their mindset? It intrigues me after so many years of copy-and-paste setlists.4 points

Foundations of Decay was released in May last year. Wow, I remember how stoked I was that they could release a new album anytime soon. Well ... 😅3 points
-
I don’t think having casual fans knowing they have a new song and/or teasing hardcore fans was the goal of playing it. IMHO is more likely they just wanted to try something new, a maybe give a little candy to the fans attending the festival.3 points

May 12th, 2022. And then nothing afterward. But most people assumed the song was a stand alone thing and probably not leading up to an album or more songs. We WANTED more, but we knew the deal.3 points

I've only listened to the song in full once. Cause as soon as I heard it, I was like "This recording is shit quality. I want to hear the studio version of the song". I literally just can't have an opinion on if this song is decent or not until I actually hear the final version". The lyrics on genius just seems like random shite that doesn't mean anything but the lyrics are probably largely incorrect because of how low quality the recording is. Or I'm just not getting the lyrics. What does the chorus "She's gonna bang her head like 1981" even mean?3 points

He looks much better with the blonde hair these days… also I gotta say, he hasn’t had a single chin in almost 10 years and now this???3 points

Omg I would love love LOVE to see them give American Eulogy some representation, but I don't think they'd get away with that n-word today. So I doubt they'd play it unless Billie modified/self-censored, which he may not want to do.3 points

If there’s a music video for this song, I would love to see them do it in a low quality cable TV 1981 MTV style3 points

God dammit, of course they played a new song at the one festival I was considering going to but then couldn't. Not sure how I feel about the song yet, honestly I find it very meh. We'll see how a recorded version sounds.3 points

That year concept I saw on Reddit gave me an idea. What if the album looked like this: ACT 1: 1972 1. 1972 2. Song about Billie's childhood 3. Political song about President Nixon and the Watergate Scandal 4. Song about a childhood friend of Billie's 5. Song about trashing disco 6. Homage to 70s punk groups ACT 2: 1981 7. 1981 8. Tribute to Billie's father 9. Song about Billie's friendship with Mike 10. Song about the band's origins 11. Song about Amanda 12. Love song about 80 ACT 3: 2020 13. 2020 14. Song about Covid 15. Song about Trump 16. Song about Biden 17. Song about Social Media 18. Song about hope for the future3 points

The new album will just be the same song over and over again with different years Starting at 1972 She's gonna bang hеr head like 1972 She's gonna bang her head like 1972 She's gonna bang her head like 1972 She's gonna bang her head like 19723 points

I guess it’s all opinions but for me KYE was a great lead single. The intro snare sounds like gun shots and the catchy riff and catchy chorus was a good way to get back to business after the success of AI. 21CB though is an awesome track as well and could’ve easily been a lead single as well but I think that catchy riff and lyrics to KYE was just a good marketing choice in my opinion. 21CB is such a good album, would love to hear East Jesus Nowhere again live and would love to hear American Eulogy live again 😊3 points

People on gdc: this band is boring they don't love us why they wait too long for drop new music. Also gdc when an actual new song comes out: I can't get the hype of the new song, never thought to say that foam was better, I don't like short songs, it's typical green day... 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈3 points

I mean it didn't bothered me 🤷♂️ I love new song now i wonder what will happen between now and the next show in 2 months. What's fun is at least I'm not gonna wait another 6 years to see them again.3 points

None of the accounts have posted anything about the show yet, they can't completely ignore the fact they played a new song right? I wonder if they weren't even meant to play it early and they just went fuck it, it all just seems so weird because again they basically did it like it was just any other song since it was just thrown in the middle of the setlist.3 points
