"1972 is dead" could mean many different things. But, based on what we know (not have theorized), here is my take: "1972" was the name given to the project the band was teasing while recording in London at RAK studios in late 2021. That project (and thus name) was scrapped in the spring of 2022 (the time when Rob came into the picture) and possibly morphed into whatever is coming out next year. The 2024 release: Not named "1972" Recorded at the old Ocean Way Recording studios and RAK Studios Produced by Rob Cavallo Mixed by Chris Lord-Alge (If Ted Jensen mastered it, the holy trinity would be complete)13 points

It bothers me that of all the people that always ask Billie stuff in social media, he choses to answer something that would bring even more doubts and concerns among the fans. We are one year without any clue from a project that the band decided to share with all of us in 2021, and then, after 12 months of silence and people wondering what happened, he just says that the thing is dead... Cmon Green Day sometimes is their worst enemy... Terrible mkt, not a single interation on social media and random answers confusing everybody... Why?3 points

How are they supposed to debunk that? Like, even if the band was planning on breaking up, how likely is it that any of the mods would even know that?3 points
-
Because it's nonsense that shouldn't get attention. The album is coming in 2024 and the mods have been hinting at a side project coming soon. Doesn't sound like a breakup to me3 points

I wonder if it will an exclusive release through that app those girls were promoting2 points

How are the mods on a fan forum supposed to debunk a rumour or comment from reddit?? 🤣 Most likely a question for the producers. Walker is more of a pop producer, also doesn't have the rapport with GD that Cavallo does. I bet Cavallo isn't afraid to have the tough talks with the band.2 points

Nearing 500 pages and here's the recap of confirmed info: Green Day were in the studio. They made at least a few riffs. Rob Cavallo was with them. Billie Joe said an album was coming in 2023. Then he said 1972 is dead. I think it's a good time to take a short break. See you guys in the 500s?2 points

Could it be? The "Warning" re-recording Billie mentioned wanting to do a decade or so ago? (let a girl dream, ok)2 points

"Might float around soon" implies stuff that hasn't floated around already like OEB has been.2 points

From @hasitleaked: "I’ve been sent Green Day studio material this weekend all marked 2023. Whoever claims these are from the upcoming album is wrong. They might float around soon and all I can say is that they are rehashed, old stuff. I checked with the label. @GreenDay"2 points

Why are we assuming that this means anything? This doesn't mean anything has been scrapped. This doesn't mean the album has been delayed. This can really just mean the album/project used to be called 1972 but no longer is. Do you guys actually think we'd get a bunch of teasers, then a year of silence and then Billie would just reply to a comment saying "Yeah the album's been scrapped, we're not releasing anything"2 points
-
We don't have any inside info about the band, don't worry! I'm sure that's nonsense. Nothing about the post indicates the band breaking up, at worst it indicates they scrapped an album. Could also be something less dramatic (eg they've just changed the name) and BJA is messing with us.2 points

Either way there was already some posts around late 2022/early 2023 (i dont remember) with #not1972, which was when it was confirmed by Jason. I have higher hopes for what this new album will be like, but I probably shouldn't have my hopes up.1 point

Yes but its almost over a year and they changed it over the last months1 point
-
This was the last teaser from last August and they still put the #1972 hashtag in the description1 point

The boys were in the studio but it wasn't Green Day related because the album is already over. So it's either Foxboro, Pinehead or a brand new project.1 point

They’re known to have connections with the band or at least their inner circle. How else would they be able to hint about the side project that’s coming? Back in 2019, Bill Schneider even popped in here to tell us the truth about MOOTIK!1 point

A leak that would get this place shut down again if people start sharing it 🤦🏻♂️😆1 point

This could just be referring to OEB or those other snippets that some people have apparently heard, right?1 point

Did they record something, realize it sounds like Father of All Trilogies and decide to try again?1 point

Wouldn't hate it if they revisited the Jesus Christ Supermarket concept. I mean for the artwork alone1 point
