The wait has been so long it's getting to the point that I forget GD are even working on new music. Honestly, I don't care if I have to wait, but we could've done without the teasing then. I understand that maybe they figured the album or whatever they were working on would be ready sooner than they thought, but I'm really tired of bands announcing new projects and then just sitting on them (looking at you blink-182). If it's not close to being done, don't say anything then. I'd rather be surprised and have a firm release date to give me something to look forward to. This long game of will they won't they is really tiring. Luckily, I have other albums to look forward to this year as GD fades to the back of my memory,6 points

What the hell is Threads and why did I thought Billie has posted in a thread on GDC this morning?6 points

Jason confirms that new Pinhead Gunpowder material is in the works. Is there ever going to be any new Pinhead Gunpowder? Jason: "Well, funny you should ask. Yeah, let me just say we're working on it. I'm pretty sure you'll be hearing new Pinhead Gunpowder soon... in the next few years." I assume you'll sing a few? Jason: "I will try... I'm working on it right now, to be honest."4 points

They could at least make some sort of announcement that the album or whatever has been delayed. That's not uncommon and I think people would be pretty understanding and happy to just have some sort of update.3 points

We've been reliably informed that the album was finished last month, June. We also now know that GD do not control the release date, it's down to Crush the record co. (RC). We've speculated loads about the delay and why. Was is post COVID issues, etc. Or maybe something we've not considered. This is pure speculation, reckless even. I've no proof. But, what if it's the record company's doing. When GD originally had a plan for an EP of was it 6 songs, that got dropped. Did the RC say no not good enough, it won't sell? When the teases stopped last August. Where GD ready to go. Did RC say no again go back to studio, we want more? So, it's not GD keeping us waiting and in the dark, it's the RC?3 points

What? The only actual evidence we have is that the record is coming out next year. That's one year, not multiple.3 points

To be fair, it’s hard to think the band also don’t want to maximise revenue It’s just fans3 points

I can’t get on, I assume because I don’t have the app but am seeing this post or ones like it from a number of people this morning. For those without IG, it seems to be a screenshot from Threads of Billie Joe’s account and his comment “now what”. https://instagram.com/stories/greendaynews/3140561526891799659?utm_source=ig_story_item_share&igshid=Y2I2MzMwZWM3ZA==2 points

When @Sanity Loan stated earlier that GD don't control when the next album is released, it's down to the record company, (RC). I thought wtf, who do they think they are telling GD what they can or can't do. When I looked into it I realised my total ignorance of just how it all works. Without boring everyone with contract law, it's basically down to cost, profit and loss and most importantly risk and who covers that risk. Recording, producing, manufacturing, distribution of your record costs money, lots of it. The RC covers that and even advances you money to live on in the meantime. If the album is a bummer and flops and the money invested is lost, the RC takes the hit. The artist/band is not legally responsible for the loss and owes the RC nothing. The RC makes money on Royalties, the money made from record sales, promotions, etc. The RC can claim anything from 60% to 90% of royalties to pay back the advance before the band members get anything. It's all down to contract negotiation. If your not careful the RC can own you. It will control and own the masters of your music, control when an album can be recorded and released, when you can do interviews, radio shows, TV appearances, videos, tours, the lot. And in some cases if they don't think the record is good enough send you back to the studio to start again. Recently major artists like Taylor Swift and Gary Barlow, have been fighting back to change the law. To allow an artist/band to have more control, in particular the long term ownership of the masters. You could say fuck it, I've got my own studio, I'll start my own record label, I'll do it all myself. Cool, but you take risk, if it fails........2 points

I love how Jason doesn't even respond to The Network accusation at the beginning, when the guy is listing the bands Jason plays in. Jason hears it, takes a deep breath and keeps the interviewing going. Mike Dirnt would have punched this guy through to whenever 1972's going to come out for a joke like that.2 points

I think what’s most defeating this time is that there have been multiple points of teasing or insider info that all ultimately amounted to nothing. Usually it ramps up and eventually happens but this has been like edging with no orgasm in sight, maybe ever.2 points

Waiting for this album is so boring. No Coverups shows or Foxboro or Longshot or the Network to tide us over. I miss no fun Mondays and the Oakland Coffee playlists. I am a whining spoiled Green Day fan. The past couple of years suck as a fan that can’t get to the shows. The band seems so quiet for a couple of years now for fans out of the touring areas. Even being far away at least the set lists were fun to see. Not anymore though. I hope the bands shakes up the setlist next touring cycle. I hope at least a single comes or a cover or anything comes out soon. I’ve been a Green Day fan for nearly my entire life and this is the first time being a fan has felt so anticlimactic for way too long. This thread is hundreds of pages and thousands of comments/posts. Is this the biggest longest most boring anticipation thread for the GDC?2 points

It literally makes no sense to think that it's still going to be multiple years before we get the album1 point

It’s not “will they, won’t they.” It’s won’t they. From all the evidence at this point, nothing is coming for quite a long time (years).1 point

Only possible similarity could be the description from Aaron Cometbus in his book, "in China with GD". He described the 21st C Asia tour in 2010, as an entourage. With all the engineers, security, catering staff and many others, akin to a travelling circus. But wow, Quebec could be something really special. And you will be there. Whatever it is, I'm sure it will be amazing, and you will enjoy every minute. Hopefully, you will be able to give us a full account. Subject to your levels of alcoholic consumption. 😏1 point

I am trying to resist getting more and more of these, but if he’s actually going to use this one and like he used to use Twitter then I may have to! Still holding out against TikTok though 😁 I see it’s not in Europe for now so that sorts that.1 point

Green Day being Punk Rock, that would be the day. What if they played the next album in full and then....didn't play Basketcase? Oh man. I think Johnny Rotten would change his mind about Green Day and proclaim them the new kings of Punk Rock.1 point

If they really want to fuck with Warner they should just play their entire new album on July 14th and 16th.1 point

yeah, I almost thought that the so called project that is supposed to be released this year was PHGP1 point

Maybe the label delayed it due to all the new rock records coming out. Still sad to see a band as legendary as GD have so little control.1 point
-
in reality its the opposite yeah, most "big international bands" have contracts and cant freely decide when to release their work they write new music, record it etc, but in the end its up to the music label when to release it, depending on promotion/tour/money, in the end its all about $$ there are "big" bands who are working independent and can release music when they want to, but not green day i guess1 point

But there really are people in here that have contact with either the band themselves or at least their inner circle, like @Sanity Loan and @pacejunkie punk1 point

You're not a legacy band if you can't release whatever the fuck you want.1 point

Billie looks good in the photos from the wedding! Looks like he's slimmed down and of course looks like he's still drinking from that fountain of youth! 😍1 point
