  4. Horrid marketing to be this absent for so long. Zero social media presence or interaction with fans. Just sad really.

  9. To be fair, we can say the same for the trilogy, we already have talked a hundred of times about it, not just in its own tread but in other threads as well 😂

  10. Not pessimistic at all, my friend. If Green Day releases first 1972 is fine for me. 👍 However, I don't mind if they release 1972 in one or two more years to get a solid record. FOAM was ok for me when it came out, but I can't say it is one of their best works (The only song I feel it was cursed to be released on this record is Graffitia). On the other hand, two of the finest GD works from the 90's were rereleased with special content. So, why not wishing that for Dookie and AI? I'm really interested on this. I've been waiting for years for this kind of content. To be honest, Nimrod XXV is OK for me as a product (Nimrod is my favorite GD record ever, I love the live CD with its pros and cons), the Demo album has some interesting and meh stuff (But I wished more) and I love the promo stuff on videos and pictures. "Insomniac XXV" was the first shot about this, just some live track released at that time but remixed and remastered (and they sound so good IMHO), but I enjoyed so much watching the live videos and documentary from Prague 1996!! So, I want the same treatment for Dookie, AI and... yes, I suppose you got it: WARNING. No one can deny, always a new album will hype us (New songs, tour, merchandising, live releases if we are lucky, etc) ... but I'm also that kind of old school fan that loves to find and collect the rare deep cuts. I want to listen to Dookie sessions version of Christie Road or songs like Clusterbomb, Cigarettes & Valentines, and more unreleased stuff. (Demos, Live performances, Early/Alternate Mixes, etc). So, it is just my wish/dream that 2024 is the year for Dookie's 30 anniversary.

  11. Imo Dos is a good album and i dont think it had to be released with Foxboro moreover I never understood why Nightlife was so hated. I think it’s a good song and one of my favorite. Everytime my friends, who don’t really listen to Green Day, are listening to it they like it. I think Dos is a good garage rock album and for me, it has contributed to make Green Day more accessible to a larger audience

  12. It was a difficult and sad time for the band in general and Billie Joe in particular. His illness including his ongoing anxiety issues affecting the promotion of the Trilogy. I remember at the time we were all praying for him and for a speedy recovery. Yet, in an interview at the time Billie Joe said that he was going through one of the most creative periods of his life. Songs and lyrics where virtually bursting out of his head. He had 50+ songs, and just had to get as many of them out there. Quatro, the documentary dvd of how the Trilogy was made, conveyed how Billie Joe was happy, doing what he loved best, making music. A truly brilliant songwriter.

  13. The thing about the trilogy was that you had 3 albums, a lot of material and a feeling like you had your favourite band back without all the posers who liked them during AI and 21cb. I liked them going back to basics with a bit of a new spin. The thing is the actual progressive parts of the trilogy weren’t bad at all. It was nice to hear Mike’s bass playing more than just the root while still covering new ground. The issue was the back to basics moments weren’t their best and there is a lack of cohesiveness mixed in with some weird moments (like nightlife). The production didn’t help. It made the albums sound choppy. This production ruined a song like The Forgotten. The piano sound is terrible especially next to the sound you heard on 21cb just a few years before.

  16. Well at least we know that the album is now finished. A lot to sort out before it's release and tour. Maybe you'll get your wish of a single from the album before the end of this year.

  17. What occurrence of talking about the Trilogy in this thread is this? The fourth? All discussions seem to somehow circle back to that and the same stuff is repeated.

  18. For me, the best era of Billie's voice was in the Trilogy, especially the album Uno. I'm currently listening to Carpe Diem, and his voice is flawless. I might even learn how to use those AI voice generation websites to create a song based on that period 😅

  19. Normally I defend GD's setlist choices due to theatrics having to be planned, but seeing Muse's concert a few months ago, which is more elaborate than GD's, makes me wish that they'd do what Muse did. In addition to their must have hits, they had 2 rotating spots, one that switched between two bigger mid-career hits, and one that switched between 4-5 deeper cuts (still hits, but ones that they don't play as often, esp in America). Oh, and they actually played songs from the current album. Imagine if GD switched between 21 Guns and WMUWSE for one slot, and between, say, GSB, NGFL, 21CB, STN, SB, and BB for another. If you went to multiple shows, you'd almost be guaranteed to have at least some difference between them.

  20. Dos is the best of the trilogy fr

  21. I think if they just could have promoted Uno as the album, released Tre as a bonus disc of outtakes for a deluxe package and released Dos at a later date as a FBHT second album that might have been the way to go.

  22. I kind of gave up hope for the new album hype a long time ago because it's taking far too long but IT WOULD be cool if we at least had a new song by When We Were Young Fest in October since I am flying down from Fargo.

  24. I hope the new album has wild bass solos like the one on Dirty Rotten Bastards!!! This is also our longest album speculation thread since it all started at the end of 2021!!!!

  25. Whilst waiting for any further updates on the new album, and the speculation on a single, the discussion is bound to drift, especially when talking about comparisons. I think we where talking about promotion of releases, and what to expect/hope will happen with new album. It started comparing with FOAM, and then drifted on to Trilogy. @Sheenius gave an excellent viewpoint on the Trilogy's production and resulting sound. Some points I hadn't realised before. I've even learnt more about Billie Joe's singing techniques and tips on guitar playing. Hardly on topic. Imho, I think it adds character to the thread. If you removed all the pages that are off topic, I wonder how many pages will be left.

  28. I can understand that notion, but usually, I'm just happy to see my favorite band at all. I still think Green Day could look to The Cure who do an excellent job of keeping those big hits that everyone knows (Just Like Heaven, Friday I'm in Love, Lovesong, Lullaby) yet having a certain set of songs they rotate in and out each night to keep things exciting and reward fans who see them multiple times on a tour. Plus, the songs they do repeat are often varied with where they are in the setlist, so shows rarely feel the same. Also, if an artist is intentionally not performing the hits, be upfront about it. Madonna's Mademe X was all about her current album with a few "reworked" versions of her big hits and she stated this in her press release. Sure it's still disappointing, but those who didn't like that album knew best to wait for the next one.

  29. I've been sooooooo curious to see where Green Day falls in dynamic pricing. It's opt-in and honestly, I can see them going either way.

  34. How many ballads are we thinking? 1, 2, more? I think 1. Will there be any wild experimentation or no? I think there will be one song that is zany. Cursing? I'm thinking 12 curses. Mike lead vocals, saxophone, bow guitars? Detailed bass bassing?

  39. Oh, you're right, Dos being released as a Tubbies record would have been perfect! Then nobody would have been overwhelmed with too much Green Day, and for me, I can craft the perfect Trilogy album, now called !8th Avenue Serenade! A concept record about going through a bunch of relationships, haha. 1. Oh Love 2. X-Kid 3. Missing You 4. Loss of Control 5. 8th Avenue Serenade 6. Sex Drugs Violence 7. Stay the Night 8. Troublemaker 9. Dirty Rotten Bastards 10. Walk Away 11. Brutal Love 12. Kill the DJ 13. Fell For You 14. Sweet 16 15. Rusty James 16. The Forgotten How'd we get deep into Trilogy talk in 2023? WIll 1972 feature any kind of lyrical or musical reference to the Trilogy? Just because they ignore on tour doesn't mean they don't think about those records in the studio. It was 50 something songs. Maybe something from those sessions has been revisited, reworked to give it a few more firing cylinders.

  40. See the thing is, I complain about GD setlists, but if they did start changing things between shows, knowing my luck I'd get all the songs I don't really care about at mine

  41. I dont agree i think the two main problems of the trilogy were the promotion and the amount of songs. the promotion was cut because of Billie’s health so they could not goodly promote their work and there were too many songs, it would be better if they released only one album with 18 songs. Considering the lack of promotion, it would be more understandable for peoples. But imo the production was a good choice and a great direction for them. Trilogy is in my top 5 Green Day album.

  45. The whole promotion of FOAM was so weird from start to finish. Beer pong with Post Malone. Billie as an extra of a rap music video. The sudden love for Billie Eilish that completely vanished a few weeks later. Playing a song on television in which Billie only plays one chord. Hopefully they don't repeat that. Nevertheless I liked the leopard print jackets...
