The thing about the trilogy was that you had 3 albums, a lot of material and a feeling like you had your favourite band back without all the posers who liked them during AI and 21cb. I liked them going back to basics with a bit of a new spin. The thing is the actual progressive parts of the trilogy weren’t bad at all. It was nice to hear Mike’s bass playing more than just the root while still covering new ground. The issue was the back to basics moments weren’t their best and there is a lack of cohesiveness mixed in with some weird moments (like nightlife). The production didn’t help. It made the albums sound choppy. This production ruined a song like The Forgotten. The piano sound is terrible especially next to the sound you heard on 21cb just a few years before.8 points

I think if they just could have promoted Uno as the album, released Tre as a bonus disc of outtakes for a deluxe package and released Dos at a later date as a FBHT second album that might have been the way to go.5 points

The whole promotion of FOAM was so weird from start to finish. Beer pong with Post Malone. Billie as an extra of a rap music video. The sudden love for Billie Eilish that completely vanished a few weeks later. Playing a song on television in which Billie only plays one chord. Hopefully they don't repeat that. Nevertheless I liked the leopard print jackets...5 points

It was a difficult and sad time for the band in general and Billie Joe in particular. His illness including his ongoing anxiety issues affecting the promotion of the Trilogy. I remember at the time we were all praying for him and for a speedy recovery. Yet, in an interview at the time Billie Joe said that he was going through one of the most creative periods of his life. Songs and lyrics where virtually bursting out of his head. He had 50+ songs, and just had to get as many of them out there. Quatro, the documentary dvd of how the Trilogy was made, conveyed how Billie Joe was happy, doing what he loved best, making music. A truly brilliant songwriter.4 points

Yeah it was cringe unpararelled by nothing. Not even the Trilogy because that era was fun while it lasted.3 points

Idk why people want the same schedule as FOAM. Do you really want the album to release 5-6 months after the first single?3 points

I dont agree i think the two main problems of the trilogy were the promotion and the amount of songs. the promotion was cut because of Billie’s health so they could not goodly promote their work and there were too many songs, it would be better if they released only one album with 18 songs. Considering the lack of promotion, it would be more understandable for peoples. But imo the production was a good choice and a great direction for them. Trilogy is in my top 5 Green Day album.2 points

imho, I think your being a tad pessimistic. Back in January at Innings Festival, Billie Joe said we'll be back next year. Rob Cavallo confirmed this by saying the new album will be released early next year. That's early not late as you suggest. We already know on here that the album is finished. So, for me that's Jan/Feb for new album and start of US/World tour. I'm drooling already. As for anniversary celebration, Dookie 30th & AI 20th. Well in the past it's only been for 25th, for Dookie, Insomniac & Nimrod in various forms to celebrate. Although, having said that, back on April 19th they celebrated the 33rd anniversary of 39/Smooth by issuing the never seen before video of a live performance 'Paper Lantern' in an Oakland backyard just before the album release, March 25, 1990. Released on IG. Awesome. What would be really really special to celebrate next year, especially for the fans, is a 'Bullet In A Bible 2'. Say next fall/autumn. A CD/DVD, of a full live show of the new album. Uncut this time, from start to finish. Especially for the fans that can't get to see them live for whatever reason. Maybe for that show, to include some Dookie/AI classics. That would be really cool. Dreamland, I know. But if you dream and wish long and hard enough, they sometimes come true.2 points

Normally I defend GD's setlist choices due to theatrics having to be planned, but seeing Muse's concert a few months ago, which is more elaborate than GD's, makes me wish that they'd do what Muse did. In addition to their must have hits, they had 2 rotating spots, one that switched between two bigger mid-career hits, and one that switched between 4-5 deeper cuts (still hits, but ones that they don't play as often, esp in America). Oh, and they actually played songs from the current album. Imagine if GD switched between 21 Guns and WMUWSE for one slot, and between, say, GSB, NGFL, 21CB, STN, SB, and BB for another. If you went to multiple shows, you'd almost be guaranteed to have at least some difference between them.1 point

I love the trilogy, and don't think one album would have worked. Maybe a double that came packaged together? I tried making a double album version, but even that is tough.1 point

I've been told that when people are drunk they act out in honest ways... so if you don't want the truth to get out, don't drink... haha just kidding. That said... there isn't enough time to cater to everyone with a setlist. I believe they do the best they can do... a little bit of old and a little bit of new...1 point

Hahaha, what was the one chord song? I wanna watch that back. EDIT: Wait, never mind, I now realise you’re talking about the Maher show theme tune.1 point

Or maybe they drop the new single as an EP with an album announcement1 point

And a new NHL on NBC theme song. I would also love to see them dominate the Grammys again!!!1 point

I hope that the next singles have a proper promotion at least, full with tv and award performances. The band should be everywhere again. But for now, I'll be good with the follow up for Love Is For Losers1 point

Or what if the single comes out in late October or early November, then the wait for a February album wouldn’t be as bad! Or another possibility is that, if it’s a longer album this time, let’s say 14-18 songs, maybe we’d get 2 pre-release singles!! 1 in September, the second in November!!! Someone posted the cello clip by itself1 point
-
But what would you prefer? Same schedule as FOAM or a September 2024 announcement with a November(2 months away) album release?1 point
-
Because we'd be hearing something in less than 3 months versus if they go an American Idiot route and wait until a month before hand, which would put what this thread has rambled on about for 500 pages firmly and possibly well into, 2024.1 point
