  1. Tim Armstrong also produced her at that time. I personally do not hear the similarity to the songs though. Two entirely different songs. Theres also only so many chords, progressions and rhythms one can really use (unless youre Rush and somehow seem to have infinite ones). Green Day at the 30+ years mark has already done everything. With that said it doesnt sound like any other GD song. It has parts similar to rev rad but as a whole piece its unique. And while its not their best, I still think it’s cool.

  2. My initial reaction to finding about this is as follows: 1) I decided to make a playlist of the trilogy songs because I wanted to revisit them and rearrange them in a way I thought was fun and cool but also maintained a logical and interesting flow. Did that. Reaffirmed my love for those songs even if I don't think they're the strongest on their own. 2) Randomly Googling Green Day and wondering what was up with their teasing and coming across a GD subreddit. 3) Hearing about this song and eventually finding it, and trying to make internal peace with the fact that the song does, sometimes overwhelmingly, share a strong similarity with that Pink song, and also it being recorded during the Network LP2 sessions but also being better than any song on FOAM. In short: I am not sure. I love Green Day, this song is dope, and I'm pretty sure Pink wouldn't mind but if this is a B-side from the Network LP (and I get it being a stylistic outlier) but they didn't feel like they include it on FOAM, I wonder why they thought that. This is so much tighter and better than so much of FOAM and I just hope that if this is the kind of thing they've felt the need to disregard in the last ~four or so years, hopefully their next album or project or whatever is unified and tighter than FOAM lmao.

  5. Thanks @squinty bitch for your kind words! Sorry, I thought it was ages since we’d had one of those enigmatic posts (which I love ‘cos they never go anywhere) and clearly with the news that the album is going to be released in 2024 nothing is close but then Billie returned to IG. I thought maybe we’d be able to laugh at ourselves a little (myself included) and how excited we get for any little scrap of info and did not mean to cause any upset. Like everyone else, I’m just waiting for new music! Like @Little Boy Named Booze said, we need to relax.

  6. If you actually think that Jen is trolling or being obnoxious, you don't know her at all. She's been a pretty much daily user on this site for years, not like these people who just pop up and post dumb shit to stir things up. She's also legit one of the nicest people here and is never involved in any drama. So saying she should be instantly banned for making one silly post is pretty cruel tbh. This desperation for album news is turning you into animals, maybe some of you need to take a step back if it's making you this hostile honestly. He's not even a mod

  13. My biggest Green Day Fan Girl Confession is that I think Kill the DJ is not only a great tune, but surpasses its influences and claws its way to a relatively high spot in the trilogy releases I have never met anybody who does not strongly dislike this track (and I know here on GDC y'all will be more loving) but I think it's one of my fav cuts from Uno lol

  14. A number of us have already said they do like it. And as we know GD only make either good or really good songs. As Mike said, "Listening to GD is like sex. When it's good, it's really good. When it's bad, it's still pretty damn good." 🤪

  15. I love kill the DJ! It's so funky and unlike anything else they've done, definitely one of the best in the trilogy for sure!

  16. Has it been like you know good writing? In a Green Day song? In 2022?

  31. No, I like it too. It’s fun and very catchy and snarly Billie is always good. Is it their most meaningful song, no but that’s fine, every song cannot be a masterpiece.

  32. The band was the one who intentionally leaked it 😂😂

  33. Assuming it's from the FOAM Sessions, it sounds better than a lot of the songs on that album. The riff verging on sample level to Pink's "So What" is a little weird though.

  34. Hmm, that's an interesting question. I think setting aside that good production is theoretically always a matter of taste, I don't think that Butch Vig is a bad producer, in fact, he's clearly one of the greats and his record speaks volumes. And in hindsight, 21CB honestly sounds great. The songs on 21CB were often complex and multi-layered. He made the band sound huge, which is not a bad thing at all. In fact - I often find myself enjoying the depth of the songs - which is also why I'd say production is a matter of taste. But I feel like Cavallo understood the band in a way that Butch Vig didn't. He could make them sound huge if he needed to, sure, but metaphorically speaking, he also knew when and how to turn the volume knob up and down, always to suit the occasion. This is important in my view, because less can be more, especially with a band like Green Day, which excels through simplicity, I would argue. Butch Vig adding a lot of depth and many layers to 21CB songs is not to be confused with Walker's style of lazily slapping on effects for no good reason. Vig knew what he was doing. But I think he didn't know Green Day enough to see that they didn't always have to sound huge and grandiose. I think he could have asked them to tone things down occasionally and to strip some of the polish, to bring in extra dynamics and variance. What this ultimately means is that whilst I adore listening to individual songs on 21CB, and as stand-alone songs there are many many great songs on that album, as a cohesive/integrated listening experience, I much prefer listening to Warning, Nimrod or AI from start to finish. I never get tired of the clever transitions in AI or the great sonic diversity and change of pace in Warning & Nimrod. On the other hand, I find that when listening to 21CB's grandiose, huge and often quite complex and multi-layered production, I can easily get fatigued and decide to break it off after a few songs or so. The length of the album of course doesn't help. But this is of course all a matter of taste. As much as I was able to see its flaws back in 2009, seeing that at the time it stood in the direct shadow of AI, I have over the years come to appreciate many individual songs on 21CB and I think viewed in isolation, it has some of the band's most accomplished work hands down, musically and especially lyrically. As a cohesive album, however, it will always remain in AI's shadow in my opinion and the (relative) simplicity of the band's earlier albums, means I also rank it below the likes of Dookie, Nimrod or Warning.

  35. Here's the flow of events that is frustrating to me: 1. Green Day records a song and decides not to release it 2. Song leaks 3. Fans find out it leaks and go crazy over wanting it, expecting it to be the second coming of Jesus Christ. 4. Fans get their hands on it 5. Fans bitch and complain that it isn't great and the band has completely lost it Gee, I wonder why the band decided to not release it...
    1 point
  36. There's a reason why it wasn't released, the band is upset it leaked, and why it has been kept a secret. And you just clearly pointed out that reason.
