Timeline seems to closely mirror Warning -> American Idiot, including a potentially abandoned/completely reworked project and a Network album in between. We just now have social media and a larger GDC presence to be made aware of everything going on.17 points

Why does every song have to be the best song ever? We should calm our expectations a bit. No one needs to be disappointed just because it's not the best GD song of all time š8 points

So once in a while, I like to check out Green Day's Spotify numbers compared to other popular rock acts, just to see how they hold up after what's being considered a flop album (sorry guys!), and I continue to be amazed by how much people still listen to them all the time! As of today, they have 26.300.000 monthly listeners, rising every day for no reason, with almost 4 years without a new album and not much playlisting, compared to: - Foo Fighters: 21.100.000 (they're in the middle of their rollout and their new album comes out in a few days) - Metallica: 25.800.000 (with an album released a few weeks ago) - Blink-182: 17.900.000 (in the middle of their tour after headlining Coachella and about to release their new album) - Fall Out Boy: 22.300.000 (after releasing an album a month ago and touring) - The Killers: 21.200.000 (with two albums released in between 2021-2022) - Paramore: 19.500.000 (with an album released in February and currently touring) - My Chemical Romance: 15.700.000 (still in the middle of their reunion tour) - The 1975: 16.200.000 (in the middle of a tour and with a lot promo because of the relationship with Taylor Swift) - Muse: 13.600.000 (with an album released last year) - Twenty One Pilots: 23.400.000 (with an album released in 2021) - Tame Impala: 25.000.000 (with an album released in 2020 and a collab single with Gorillaz this year) - Panic! at the Disco: 23.100.000 (they announced they're over this year, but I guess it still counts) Honestly, kudos to the guys for doing so well despite not doing much to boost their numbers. Usually, monthly listeners switch up a lot depending on new activity with albums, features or soundtracks, but their numbers always stay above 25 million, that's kinda wild actually. Sometimes even I forget how enormous they still are, like what do you mean they're not my small little band?? I'm especially impressed by the comparison with Foo Fighters and Metallica, who are in the middle of their promotions, and Green Day still have more consistent streaming even being inactive, I would have never thought that!6 points

You know whatā¦ā¦ Maybe Green Day want to take a bit more time to deliver an album that they feel is great. Maybe they want to release it next year and headline Glastonbury off the back of it. Maybe they have stuff in their personal lives that is more important and needs their attention right now. When the time is right then weāll hear a new album from them. ā¦. The tail doesnāt wag the dog . Green Day, i trust you. ā¦ Take your timeā¦ā¦.5 points

Hearing this again after the OEB leak, damn IMHO thereās an ocean between them from many perspectives. I really find it hard to believe they could be part of the same project.5 points

If February is the target release date, we should hear something by October or at the latest, November. I have nothing zany to say at this time. š4 points

A very good friend of mine lives down my street. His 10 year old son loves playing his guitar. His fav album is Dookie and tries to play along to each song and knows the lyrics by heart. His hero is Billie Joe, and can't wait to see GD live for the first time when they next visit UK. Also, Kerplunk is one of the biggest selling indie albums of all time. Over 4m sold to date. Need I say more.4 points

Father of All was a #1 record. And yet nobody really knows about it, and the band don't play it live. I think Covid is the reason for both those things, and now they've decided on releasing new stuff instead. Still a bummer, but it makes sense. And while I don't understand the hate of the album, there are a couple songs that I skip most of the time. Fire Ready Aim is fun, but weak and Stab You In the Heart is one of the worst Green Day songs ever. Other than that, it's a really great record. Meet Me On the Roof is a bop. Junkies is an experiment done right and there is some classic sounds on the record too.4 points

The only other band that comes to mind like this is The Cure. They haven't released a new album in over 10 years yet they are a band that new generations keep discovering. And their shows span fans of all generations which is super cool.4 points

I have opinions about drugs and I am free to share them in public, even tho Iām not allowed to give away amphetamine for free at the local mall.4 points

@ANTIās post is interesting, I saw a few things flash up recently that they are the fourth most listened to rock band on Spotify. Also, the have 6.3 m subscribers on YouTube, I am sure that has risen steadily for the last couple of years. I posted a few years ago about that number but would take ages to find it I guess. HM tour may not have been what super fans wanted but they are probably happy it was so successful. We have to share š4 points
-
Thatās really cool. Iām sure the Hella Mega tour boosted their numbers a bit, playing their hits night after night to millions of potential new fans. We may hate it but it does make a difference. They are also one of those rare aging bands that still gains young fans every year, new kids are always discovering them and their shows continue to be all ages. Thatās unusual for a band of guys in their fifties that havenāt had a hit in many years. I go see other older acts and their audience is aging with them, there are no new young fans. Green Day is an anomaly. Itās like they will always be synonymous with teenage rebellion for any generation4 points

How about this one? It's not exactly a teaser, because Billie accidentally posted it in his Instagram story then quickly took it down.4 points

You mean the black and white video with everything in reverse? I actually was very intrigued by that one, definitely excited to hear what that full song sounds like. I think the one that made my ears perk up the most was the one with Lenny at the beginning that was like "play this sound for your dog... wait for it..." The clip had some awesome heavy guitars I really liked.4 points

Some FOAM positivity for us FOAM enthusiasts. https://tapeop.com/interviews/138/butch-walker/ Billie Joe was burned out in producing Green Day records himself for so long, and was ready to do something different. When Butch told him he wanted to produced something new and fresh, Billie Joe was on the same page, desperate for a change. So there we have it, not a troll. Even if you despise FOAM and think it's worst garbage ever, FOAM was simply a way for the band to stretch their artistic wings, getting out of their comfort zone. I hope that Billie is enjoying the process this time around and that he makes no compromises in the music he wanted to make.4 points

Put me in the it's just okay camp. I only heard it once but don't really have a desire to hear it again. The riff is a rip off (and I love Pink) and the song is so meh. I'd be disappointed if this was the direction of the new LP. It's just...fine. The hook is catchy and gets stuck in your head, but otherwise nothing of note for me so far.3 points
-
Kinda the opposite, seems likely this will not be part of it. At least it comes from a separate recording session.3 points

Don't mind waiting as long as it takes as it's gonna be awesome, if the teasers are anything to go by. Other than the latest official update of it's release early '24, the previous statement says the band are still working on it. Onward and upwards as the GD journey continues. Getting better and better every time from AI, 21stC, and RevRad and next up album 14. Bring it on. Oh yea, FOAM was a side project, a night out, a party. It was needed. Now back to work. Now we are ready for it. Let's roll up our sleeves. Let's see now, a 6 song ep. Wait a minute, we can do better than this let's go for a full album. Well 10 teases done are we ready. No, still writing, more songs flowing, let's put another song on the album and another, this is going to be epic. '24 is gonna be a special year. Well worth the wait.3 points
-
Perhaps thatās why the band or the management seem pretty pissed that this one leaked because of possible copyright infringement.3 points

Yup makes complete sense. This is how FOAM always came off to me but then again I'm one of the FOAM fans. Thanks for sharing!3 points

I'm 100% sure that non of these videos were posted "accidentally". He just wanted to tease us š3 points

Yeah, they definitely are a anomaly, they must be probably in the third generation of fans by now, gonna have 80 and 15 year olds rocking out in the same concert haha That's why I don't think it's far-fetched to think they could headline the Super Bowl, they always switch up between trendy and legacy acts, and they haven't had a rock artist in a long time. The only problem would be trying to control Billie š3 points

Right...I'm not disagreeing with you. It's clear Green Day spans generations. I'm just saying The Cure is the only other band I know who does this consistently.2 points

I heard it now in full for the first time. What I love about the track is that they have so many rhythmical changes in the song. I mean only the chorus itself consists of three different parts and also the bridge has surprises in it. But yeah, you can clearly hear the similarities to Passenger and Holiday (in my opinion stronger than to So What). Anyways, hopefully it gets an official release someday! edit: oh and if THIS is the production level of an unreleased demo track, then I'm really looking forward to the upcoming album. The production quality of OEB is absolutely amazing (especially in comparison to FOAM). Looks like CLA and the band have really upped their game.2 points

Wish I like Gogol Bordello better but I just donāt like them much. Good for them though.2 points

I haven't read the whole convo here but I can assure you JR always intends to make real art. He is not into the mundane or doing things just to please the masses. If I say much more LBNB and Lukie will surely come at me riding with the horsemen of the apocalypse... let's just say I got to see some of the film before the wide release and I asked about a choice and suggested cutting a part down. It didn't go over well. LOL But I understood where he was coming from and I respect it.2 points

Going to hit half a million views on YouTube today, so I redacted my worthless post. I now have something else, š. So let's talk 1972. Which teaser excites you most? I think the slow one could be something.2 points

Yeah I don't get why people think of this song as a huge step up. There are songs on FOAM that are better than this one. Lyrically there isn't really anything there. The main guitar riff is just a rip off of Pink and the rest of the instrumentation isn't anything special either imo. It's an ok song, it's still nothing great by GD standards. But I wouldn't judge the band or the next album by this song since it's a demo song from 2020 and they've been working on the new album since then I'm fine with them releasing this just as some bonus track/B-side or something but it probably shouldn't be an album track imo2 points
-
Song is ok but even though we all are Green Day diehards is this really that good? I think at best itās a b-side but wonāt and shouldnāt be on the new album or be a single. Lyrics are mehā¦better than Pollyanna and here comes the shockā¦I like Holy Toledo but do we really think this is so good it should be a single on their next album??? I feel it was a leftover from FOAM/The Network eraā¦maybe they are re-editing it and thatās why itās blocked but as a song I donāt think itās worth the long wait period itās ok but I donāt think itās good enough to be a single or an album track and I donāt think it will be since this allegedly was recorded years ago.2 points

Supposedly this poem of Picasso is a hoax and a mix of Boulevard, Breaking The Habit and Crawling by Linkin Park https://genius.com/Linkin-park-crawling-lyrics https://genius.com/Linkin-park-breaking-the-habit-lyrics2 points

I enjoyed it too. It's a silly catchy rock n roll song at the end of day, nothing special really, but I guess that's the state of Green Day for now.2 points

These are probably not the most elaborate and inspired lyrics BJ has came up with in his career, but I remember part of this community hailing as a masterpiece a bunch of random catchy words that could have easily been put together by an AI but happened to be written by some Canadian kids for a hoax, and thatās just funny to me š1 point
