I’m normally just a lurker here but I just wanted to clear some things up: 1. I’m not Jason Tate, I’m Jason Holmes but I did run greenday.net long ago. 2. I didn’t say my source confirmed that the album isn’t done, I said it kinda sounded that way and it also came across that way in the Cavallo interview 3. I only confirmed what Cavallo already revealed about the 2024 release date, it wasn’t some “insider” breaking news. 4. I really hate being called an “insider” 5. I would never put information out as fact that I didn’t believe was rock solid. If I had any doubt, I’d make sure to note that. If this info ends up being wrong it’s because they changed plans but I’m 100% confident it’s the current plan.32 points

Yay, another nine months of odd ramblings, drug-inspired fake tracklists, and talking in circles about the same stuff.19 points

I think it's safe to assume something changed pretty drastically during their process. That's totally OK. However, for the band to go completely dark after pretty consistently teasing is, in my opinion, not OK. They can account for delays by keeping up the teasing with a clear message that things are still on-going. Sure, they don't owe us crap and don't have to do anything, which has always been their stance. This is all on-par with their marketing ever since I've followed them so I'm not sure why I'm expecting anything different.17 points

Hello, I'm a lurker here for a longtime, since 2006. I'm not post that much for many reasons but i found this unnoticed article, searching instagram profile for Brian Judd, Chris Lord Alge's assistant. https://www.musicconnection.com/qa-with-chris-lord-alge/ "The new Green Day record [expected in late 2023], (the band and I have really upped our game)." "As far as mixing, I’ve got the new Green Day record [expected out end of 2023] that we’re almost done with. It’ll probably come out toward the end of the year." This article seems corroborate recent informations provided by Jason from greenday.fm15 points

Yeah it’s all just poor marketing. I know we will all buy the record no matter what, but GD really doesn’t value a relationship with their fans like most bands do now. They still operate like social media isn’t a thing. Social media sucks in a lot of ways, but there’s plenty of data showing it increases fan engagement. Maybe Green Day just doesn’t care.14 points

The question is why they’re so bad at marketing. It’s not like they’re new at this. To quote Dr. Evil “throw us a friggin bone here”.11 points

☝️ This. By the time the quote from Billie appeared saying the release would probably be out in 2023, it was only halfway through 2022 they had already been teasing it for six months. So the belief prior to that was that a release was imminent in 2022. So it was certainly reasonable for us to assume a statement regarding a 2023 release meant early that year, not the end of it (or even 2024). Seriously why tease a recording with a fully edited video and what appears to be a title (“RAK Studios - London- 1972”) in 2021 for 2024? I’m sorry but that’s on them.10 points

It's obvious that the guys from The Network stole their recording gear as an act of revenge because Billie uses the pink amp from The Network on tour, so that's why Rob Cavallo had to buy a new SSL console and they had to start all over again 🤔10 points

This article is from january, and the one with Rob is from a few days ago. Seems most likely that end of 2023 now is early 2024.9 points

In a 'near' future.. The new album is almost done. - Billie Joe, 20618 points

I truly don't think they care about consistent engagement. Only when they have something meaningful to share will they engage. They are at the point in their career where they don't need to constantly be connected to fans and be at the forefront of peoples' minds. And they don't need to do it for the money at this point.8 points
-
Probably not. I think it will likely be a bit more substantial than RevRad. Maybe a 50 minute album or something. Maybe more AI/21CB sounding album but less conceptual probably. But I wouldn't get too overexcited. As much as I love those albums, idk if the band can really even pull off something like that to the same degree As much as a lot of people love RR for being quite similar to those albums, I just don't connect to it in the same way I do with AI, and especially 21CB, as that is my absolute favourite album (if it wasn't obvious already)8 points

The thing is the band has explicitly only told us one thing. That the album will "probably be coming out in 2023". And that was in May 2022. It's very likely that they meant towards the end of 2023 at that point. But we all interpreted that as most likely meaningearly 2023. The band could've been more clear but all this craziness happening here is kind of our own fault. The band never really mislead us. We just interpreted the one statement we got from them in the wrong way and then got overly excited way too soon. Considering that was a year ago at this point, it's not that surprising that the release of the album has been delayed to most likely being in early 2024, as that can happen with albums and stuff I don't think the album has been delayed a bunch of times. I think the band pretty much always thought it was probably going to be released towards the end of 2023 and it's just had a small delay to the beginning of 2024 Since we know now that the album probably isn't going to be released until 2024 (late 2023 at the earliest), can we please maybe try and stay calm and not go crazy over every little thing (like emojis) until at least like September? When we might actually start getting an announcement, singles etc. There will be other bands releasing music and stuff in the meanwhile7 points
-
I really hope the wait is worth it. With it being so long it runs the risk of being disappointing which is my experience when a band keeps delaying an album. I'd rather they didnt say anything about the new LP if it was gonna take this long.7 points

Thanks for posting this! Also, thank you CLA for giving us more information than the band themselves! 😂. Very excited about "the band and I have really uppded our game" and that he mentions the record is expected out at the end of 2023 twice. I know we were all disappointed to hear 2024 but this sounds very promising and I think we are in for something epic!6 points

Thank you so much for sharing, this article is really interesting. I'm looking forward to the CLA Teaching Academy! But nevertheless, doesn't matter if end of 2023 or early 2024, the fact that he says that they upped their game makes me really excited! ❤️6 points

This album better be good because I swear to god if it's another "let party and snort cocaine" album I'm done with them. Let say the album drop in January or February. I guess it's possible to have a single + announcement in October/November... Fuck I'm disappointed.6 points

Well I spoke with my friend at lunch. He swear to me that's what Green Day management told them in early January. He can't explain it either but he doesn't really give a fuck honestly 😂 He's just happy that he got them for his festival lol. He says it's not the first time they got told something by an artist that didn't happen. Moral of the story don't trust me anymore.5 points
-
True, but at least Blink has been giving album updates via Instagram and their Discord. Travis recently said they were wrapping up the album before the tour and that's at least better than nothing. Green Day could do some sort of update even if its news we don't want to hear.5 points

In response to the criticism levied at Green Day's recent marketing choices, I think there's real reason to be optimistic about it when their next album comes - whenever that may be. Did you guys see all the promotion for Fall Out Boy's newest album? I don't follow FOB on any social media platforms, yet I saw promotion for their album all over the place - hiding little packages for fans at landmarks in major cities, billboards in major cities, three short-notice intimate club shows, and pre-release listening parties at affiliated record stores with prizes, exclusive colored records, and more. Again, these are just things that I happened to see while browsing social media; I'm sure fans of FOB who actually follow the band can speak more on the promotion of the record. As Green Day and FOB are both under the same management, Crush, I would bet that the marketing for the next Green Day record will follow a similar strategy.4 points

Hey @Sanity Loan maybe you'll get it right for the next album cycle with Green Day being the "focus of the summer"4 points

I was recently thinking about Blink having released their first single before finishing recording the entire album and thinking if Green Day should do the same... but I'd honestly hate to have such a huge gap between single and album like Blink is doing. Foos' approach of "here's the single, album is out next month" is way better IMHO. Hoping GD will do the same instead of what they did with FOAM.4 points

Hopefully no more esoteric emoji interpretations tho, that would be something.4 points

I think they could if they really decided that’s what they wanted to do. And I don’t even mean another rock opera specifically, but another album that ambitious. I’m just not sure they’ve wanted to do that since Breakdown.4 points

With the pain of the enforced break of the pandemic and the time lost, and as anxious and happy as they were to resume touring, there had to be some real reason for this delay. This will basically be another entirely lost year just when things are getting back to normal.4 points

By the time this comes out there's a chance we'll be at almost 3 years since the first teasers. The hype and expectations that this wait and roller coaster ride of a build up (if you could even call it that) really runs the risk of letting fans down if the album isn't good. Hopefully, whatever they come out with is worth the wait. There hasn't been a single album that I've disliked, but I'd really rather not have another FOAM.3 points

As much as this person who supposedly confirmed this today is meant to be an ‘insider’, perhaps we don’t put all our trust in their statements? I find it weird that it’s radio silence from the band but then they somehow allow someone from their circle to not only know about release timings but also confirm it to the fanbase. Seems a bit odd to me. Just saying is all, I’ve known many ‘insiders’ in the past and the last thing they wanted to do was be the cause of leaks or to piss the band off3 points

A release in 2024 seems ions off, but it could make sense. *if* indeed this would be away from other big acts and with a tour matching the AI anniversary, this could indeed be a deliberate move. I mean, headlines such as *20 years after American Idiot dominated the airwaves, Green Day are back again* certainly have a nice ring to them, you gotta admit haha. I don't know, it seems weird that they would float the idea of the album getting released so much earlier, but I presume when they set out they had a lot smaller ambitions and as time went on they decided that actually, there was a lot more they could do with the next release, including deliberate marketing and release at the right time. That's my theory. If plans indeed changed and the album gets released next year it would make sense that the teasers died down. Because what the band, management and marketing would have wanted, was not to create hype around an album that is going to be released a year from now or so, but rather let the hype fizzle out and create fresh hype once it's appropriate. It's why I think the weirdest thing of all would be to drop the singles and album now or in the near future, given how few teasers we've had recently. It's all very mystical, but regardless of how frustrated people are right now (and I get it), I feel like we'll understand a lot better once the album drops. I don't know if it will be any good, but based on what we have heard so far and the staffing (Cavallo and CLM), I think we're in for something big, either way.3 points

OG Green Day fans had to wait 17 years for the 1,000 Hours EP and never complained about it.3 points

And it's also election year in the US. Could be one more reason to push it to 2024 if this is really (and I sure hope so!) a big, ambitious, maybe political project and comeback 20 years after AI.2 points

They haven’t exactly been communicating for the past year. I just don’t expect to hear from them until an official announcement. No explanation will be forthcoming unless it’s part of an interview2 points

Plans for this release seem to have changed multiple times, and getting info via a game of telephone isn't always accurate. I don't think anyone's being deceitful here, it's just a clusterfuck.2 points

In other words, that's what I said a few pages back. They are looking for the best window to release the album without any other big act on the way. They want full attention on them.2 points
