  1. Well at least we know he’s still alive

  2. Spoke to the company again today as they did not reply yesterday. They verbally stated that they think the advertisement used archived material. I said that was not good enough. I was advised to formally write to a Ross Gilbert in Marketing, which I have done via email today asking for urgent clarification, as their statement could be considered misinformation. At the very least their notice should be considered unreliable. The fact they are using Rob Cavallo's name and quoting him, wouldn't they have to ask his permission? I dunno. I reckon, as others have said, the statement "next year" is referring to 2023 as it was made in 2022. Anyways, as soon as I get a reply, I will post it on here. Hope that helps.

  4. This album better be good because I swear to god if it's another "let party and snort cocaine" album I'm done with them. Let say the album drop in January or February. I guess it's possible to have a single + announcement in October/November... Fuck I'm disappointed.

  5. OG Green Day fans had to wait 17 years for the 1,000 Hours EP and never complained about it.

  6. They didn't said they were touring for a new album for nothing when they reached the FEQ in early January. I still think an announcement in May/June is possible.

  9. I just wish Green Day themselves would put out a statement to clear the air on what’s going on with the album

  11. The way I see it, it’s Billie Joe saying he was around from “1972-?” As he doesn’t know the year he’s going to die. Might be a hint, but might just be the dates of his life

  12. Plans for this release seem to have changed multiple times, and getting info via a game of telephone isn't always accurate. I don't think anyone's being deceitful here, it's just a clusterfuck.

  13. A release in 2024 seems ions off, but it could make sense. *if* indeed this would be away from other big acts and with a tour matching the AI anniversary, this could indeed be a deliberate move. I mean, headlines such as *20 years after American Idiot dominated the airwaves, Green Day are back again* certainly have a nice ring to them, you gotta admit haha. I don't know, it seems weird that they would float the idea of the album getting released so much earlier, but I presume when they set out they had a lot smaller ambitions and as time went on they decided that actually, there was a lot more they could do with the next release, including deliberate marketing and release at the right time. That's my theory. If plans indeed changed and the album gets released next year it would make sense that the teasers died down. Because what the band, management and marketing would have wanted, was not to create hype around an album that is going to be released a year from now or so, but rather let the hype fizzle out and create fresh hype once it's appropriate. It's why I think the weirdest thing of all would be to drop the singles and album now or in the near future, given how few teasers we've had recently. It's all very mystical, but regardless of how frustrated people are right now (and I get it), I feel like we'll understand a lot better once the album drops. I don't know if it will be any good, but based on what we have heard so far and the staffing (Cavallo and CLM), I think we're in for something big, either way.

  14. Whoa it says 1972. This is our first "1972" hint (sorta?) In months.

  15. I would also like to add the interface in question was released in December 2021 so I imagine it was used last year in the recording / mixing process. It’s extremely unlikely that Rob & CLA would’ve only just discovered this piece of equipment. https://www.solidstatelogic.com/media/solid-state-logic-launches-next-step-in-hybrid-production-tools-big-six-superanalogue™-mixer-with-usb-interface#:~:text=Featuring comprehensive AD%2FDA conversion, for artists%2C producers and engineers.&text=OXFORD ENGLAND December 8 - Solid, desktop mixing console%2C BiG SiX.

  16. The article does kind of read like it was written last year and not updated. They say that Rob and CLA are still in the process of mixing the record, but I think considering we've seen them at CLA's studio both mid last year and earlier this year, I think it's fairly safe to say - unless something very drastic has changed - that the record is mixed already. So whether it was written early this year or sometime last year it's fairly easy to assume that they didn't update the wording very much if at all before publishing yesterday. To be honest at this stage I'd love just any word at all from the band, even if that word is that we shouldn't expect anything soon. Or in fact even if there's something coming in the next little bit just assure us that there isn't - it'll make for a better surprise 😉

  17. Yeah I’m not buying this 2024 business. Albums don’t take that long to mix. An announcement is coming soon I think.

  22. In other words, that's what I said a few pages back. They are looking for the best window to release the album without any other big act on the way. They want full attention on them.

  24. So a project begun in 2021 won’t be out until 2024. Just a theory, but is it possible this album is so good that they know it will be successful and award worthy and they don’t want to be lost in all the rock releases coming out this year so they’re pushing it to next awards season when they’ll have the spotlight to themselves? I don’t know just trying to find a silver lining in all this, some benefit to waiting.

  25. Sad to hear this but thanks and thanks to Jason. So when Billie said in February they were breaking up and getting back together next year he sorta wasn’t kidding
    4 points
  26. There's that one pic from the RevRad era (can't find it now) of Billie signing a wall and he includes 1972 in the signature, so yeah, not really a clue.

  27. Here are the lengths of time between each studio album. Obviously when a band is first hitting the mainstream, they will keep the momentum going as much as they can. So from 39 all the way to Warning, the wait never got to be 3 years. warning's lukewarm reception and band burnout led to a longer waittime for American Idiot, because they knew they needed to make a massive change or risk fading away in the early 2000s. They worked themselves to the bone during the Idiot era, even adding multiple side projects to their oversized plate during the years that followed. Not the Network, that wasn't them. 21st Century Breakdown took a long time to make because of how well received American Idiot was. They had come back from warning, but now instead of fading away, they were facing an almost certain dropoff in sales because nothing could compare to the universally praised IDIOT. Even if Breakdown was completed in 2006, it was probably a good idea to hold off. The Idiot hype was just too strong. Fans and critics were just WAITING to say "not as good as idiot" and dismiss anything else the band did. Finally, Green Day do get to the standard 3 year schedule of most rock bands. The Trilogy comes 3 years and 4 months after Breakdown, which is kind of perfect for the label and fans both. They do just a few months longer between the trilogy and Rev Rad, which is incredible because we could have seen a long wait time after the disaster that was the Trilogy era. In my notes, I thought Revolution Radio would be out in 2017, but we got in the sweet spot of the 3 year wait. And finally, and perhaps the most telling is the release of FOAM. This wait is the same lenght as the wait between Breakdown and Uno, and I believe this 3 years and 4 months is what a label really wants from the band if it's possible. From warning onward, it looks like 3 years was the goal each time and sometimes things got pushed back for different reasons. As of May 4th, 2023 we are at 3 years and 2 months, so we're right in the time an album should be dropping. GDC and myself included are always freaking out over new Green Day, but we've still got time. I give you permission to FREAK OUT on October 4th, 2024 if this album isn't out yet. Because that would be 4 years, 7 months and 27 days. And that's just poop. We can wait 4 years 7 months and 24 days, but 27? No. Even if 27 is important somehow, NO. 1 year, 9 months, 4 days (between 39 and Kerplunk) 2 years, 15 days (between Kerplunk and Dookie) 1 year, 8 months, 9 days (between Dookie and Insomniac) 2 years, 4 days (between Inomniac and Nimrod) 2 years, 11 months, 19 days (between Nimrod and Warning) 3 years, 11 months, 18 days (between Warning and American Idiot) 4 years, 7 months, 24 days (between American Idiot and Breakdown) 3 years, 4 months, 9 days (between Breakdown and Uno) 0 years, 1 month, 20 days (between Uno and Dos) 0 years, 0 months, 28 days (between Dos and Tre) 3 years, 9 months and 26 days (between Tre and Revrad) 3 years, 4 months (between Rev Rad and FOAM)

  28. This is the sign that they definitely reads what's being said in this forum. A shitload of complaints within two days, and a hint drops. Can we complain as much as possible so that we get another hint?

  29. No Fun Mondays, live-streaming the Coverups, there are things that could be done to make the waiting not so terrible. It’s because of the early teases and then silence. It’s frustrating for spoiled fans. Hi, it’s me. I’m a spoiled fan.

  30. 21st Century Breakdown was almost 5 years. Assuming the article is right about early 2024, the gap between FOAMF and this album will be a little over 4 years I can't tell if you're being completely serious here but if so... Really? GD fans can't trust anymore because some random sources saying there may be a GD album coming soon were wrong? Anyway, here's my view on this whole thing. If the album is for sure not coming until 2024 at the earliest, at least we know not to think anything of any leaked album info for at least the next 4 or 5 months. At least we don't constantly be thinking "ooh, is there going to be an announcement coming this week". Ik some people will probably still be doing that but I won't be cause ik there won't be. At least this is an indication that we'll probably be getting something a little more substantial and ambitious than the last couple of Green Day albums we've gotten. Is it frustrating, yes absolutely. And I wish the band wouldn't have started teasing us when the album was so far from ready to release. But I'd prefer to see this as an indication that the band are working hard on making sure this album is the best it's going to be. Don't lose interest in this new album because it's not going to be coming out immediately. Instead, think about the potential this album has to be great as long as the band has and continues to put effort into making this album good. If it's not coming out until 2024, odds are they're not completely finished the album. Whether they're still in the recording process, whether they're mostly done and just putting on the finishing touches. It's very likely that they're waiting until this album is the best it can be I don't think this is going to just be another FOAMF. It may not be a complete departure from that sound but from the teasers we heard, it's definitely not going to be FOAMF 2 imo

  31. i think plans changed... again. we just don't know the full story & timeline yet. but maybe we get this festivals tour in 2023 with 1 or 2 singles and the album in early 2024 (feb/march)

  33. I think the requirement for the music for the halftime show needing to be pre-recorded is a stumbling block for them. IIRC, that’s why RHCP almost didn’t do it. Plus they get what, 5 songs max? I don’t really see the benefit. If the album really isn’t coming out until 2024, a single at some point this year isn’t out of the question. But I’m with everyone else, if we’re waiting this long it better damn well be worth it. Another FOAM really isn’t going to cut it.

  34. 2024 is literally only 7 months away and is also 20 year anniversary of American idiot

  35. At this point, I hope all this wait give us an album longer then 10 songs, which seems to be the new normal for bands

  36. Feels like this album has been done for a while. Rock bands have been keeping the window between official album announcements and release dates pretty short this year, and I imagine it'll be similar for GD. With the fall tour rumors, it feels like they'll announce the album sometime in summer and release it in the fall around a headlining tour that will continue into 2024.

  37. Honestly having no fun Mondays and money money 2020 part 2 on 2020 and three new songs on 2021 held the waiting in a good way. The thing about 1972 is the early teasing. Sure the project changed overall but they could give a little update that this project is still going instead of giving no hint about it for almost a year.

  38. If true, this is beyond stupid. I've said repeatedly that I'm fine with them taking their time on this next album and I stand by that. What I don't like is them putting out several teasers literally over a year before the album is going to be released and all these sources (whether true or not) saying that the band is done the album, that they're getting ready for touring and releasing singles just for an article to come out saying yeah it's gonna be another year For RevRad, I'm pretty sure all we got was confirmation that Billie had written a few songs around the time of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015, then a photo of Billie in studio in the beginning of 2016 and then the band releasing singles and stuff starting in August. For FOAMF we got basically nothing until the album was announced and FOA was released as the lead single, exept for the Panicland shit. And while this album may be a bigger project than both of those, I don't see why we need all this shit if the album isn't even going to release for another year

  41. Well that's a bummer. But it tells me that all the 1972 stuff was just them celebrating their respective milestones. Pretty sure the guy who reported it is Jason Tate. If it's the same dude, he ran greenday.net a million years ago
