I think the reason Green Day is a standout is due to BIllie Joe's songwriting capabilities. I really think he is one of the best in our time. And he is able to step out of genres and/or mix and elevate sounds when he is at his best.

I have this strange feeling that Album 14 will have the same vibe as AI and 21stcbd.. Oh boy i can't wait any longer.. When the new single comes out I'll be sure to enjoy it along with a dozen of beer

No it's because Green Day release better music but also know how to write a radio friendly hit. Plus, they look more attractive and I guess are the complete package for a commercial band Weezer have their ups and downs, when they're good they're great, but they have probably released more crap than gold. Plus they never really had that appeal to a commercial audience Offspring have been very successful but have you seen them live? Oof. Plus they haven't done anything that's been really commercially successful since the late 90s / early 00s (arguably could say the same for GD) NOFX and Rancid are just not radio friendly Edit: I guess depending on your definition of a sell-out perhaps that's the conclusion you can come to. But I'm sick of that debate, get over it.... Also this is way off topic, back to 1972 speculation, new album will be out next Friday

Again: I am hoping for at least 14 songs, a minimum length of 45 minutes, sound of AI or 21CBD or heavier and a relaxed and fresh band!

Exactly. Green Day is successful and the best because of Billie Joe’s songwriting and Green Day as a great band in general. They are so ahead and beyond any of their contemporaries. It’s not worth comparing them to others regardless of that outdated “sellout” label. It’s an inconsequential non-existing argument or point. It’s pointless. Green Day stands alone because they’re in a different class.

I'm sure that's probably true but I think they put quite a lot of love and care into all their albums. Even FOAMF to an extent But putting care into an album doesn't mean that the album is necessarily going to be a great album. Basically, I'm not expecting a 10/10 album. And I wouldn't want to be expecting a 10/10 album. If I was expecting a 10/10 album, then I would most likely end up disappointed when it turns out to be a 7/10. Their last 10/10 album imo was 21CB which was 14 years ago. I'm just hoping for a genuinely good Green Day album

"Against" in what way? I know nothing so I'm not refuting nor confirming anything. I'm happy you've at least heard something! I have no reason to doubt what you've heard and it actually sounds plausible/likely, which is a nice change of pace for anything we've had over the last 360+ pages. I've been doubtful towards the whole Easter thing because I've watched this band long enough to know they're not going to hint at something with seemingly-random emoji in a TikTok video. When they want us to know something it will be obvious and intentional. Until then, we should refrain from turning things into something they aren't. No birthdays, no holidays, no bull shit... they will tell us when they're ready.

The Offspring were really successful til Splinter. You‘re gonna go far, was probably something like their last hit or known for non-fans. But yeah, they released 2 albums in 10 years. Their latest wasn‘t really good but not bad at the same time. The production of the record was kinda shit 😂 Weezer isn‘t really big anymore. I like them but sometimes it‘s more quantity than quality. But wouldn‘t call them a punkband. Personally I can‘t understand why Zebrahead didn‘t really got their attention. They had some hits in the 2000‘s and MFZB had a perfect timing for its release during Nu Metal. They‘re still well known in Japan, England and Germany. I think Green Day is probably different than all these bands and every album has a different sound. A lot of bands outside of their genres like their music and pointing out they sound different than any other Punkrock Band. Plus lyrically they set a high standard with AI and 21stCB comparing to a lot of bands

I've been wondering why other punk bands like NOFX, offspring, Weezer, rancid etc aren't commercially successful as green day .. is it because they're aren't sellouts ?

Speaking of Metallica, even though Green day are my fav. My fav songs have been by metallica

72 Seasons by Metallica is out today. There is no mention of Green Day in the lyrics. Bummer.

The wait is going to be worthy. I don’t expect AI or 21cb levels but I feel it’s gonna be revrad with a AI level production. A man can dream 🙏

I'm not expecting the album to be at the quality of AI or 21CB or Dookie Even if the album surpasses my expectations and is way better than I expected, I'm not expecting it to be a top 3 Green Day album. I'll be happy to be proven wrong but I would NOT get my hopes that high for this album
