I have always believed that about the Trilogy. The promotion was INSANE before I heart. Green Day were on every TV show, talk show. They were performing everywhere and there was going to be at least 3 singles from each album. Music videos. The records would have been spread apart instead of rush released. It's all about promotion. If Dookie had come out and there was no single, no video and no shows....Dookie would have flopped. That is exactly what happened with Dos and Tre. Even with an established name behind them, no promotion equals low sales. Even if they are bad, which they aren't....bad records top the charts all the time. Good or bad doesn't really go into the equation of success. 1972 needs a good promo. A HUGE lead single, like Blink-182's Edging. It will start the hype train. Heck, an acoustic single with strings wouldn't hurt either. There. I have added some substance to this sickly thread. I speculated. About 1972.9 points

Forever Now?! Are you insane? Boy, is that an opinion that belongs in the Unpopular Opinions thread. š²7 points

True. I was so scared because after they announced his rehab it was really silent about him or the band. I was āluckyā when Adie posted a photo of him during the process a few days later. He looked really bad but smiled (with thumbs up I think?). Like she wanted to tell us everythingās gonna be fine. I think āStill breathingā described very good how serious his situation was. I hope he knows whatever the new album sounds like we will love them no matter what and he and the rest of the band doing fine. They released so many great records it would never change my love for Green Day even if they release bad music for the rest of their career. Plus they still put on a fantastic show which is more important to me6 points

From what little we have seen and heard I think it is safe to say this isnāt going to be one of those āoff the cuffā albums like the trilogy and FOAM. Bringing Rob back in and seeing how active heās being with feedback in the Letterbomb teaser signals a seriousness that would be a breath of fresh air. Tea leaves arenāt much but they are something6 points

Me just now: "Oh, a flurry of new replies in the 1972 thread. Maybe something finally happened?" *Looks and sees discussion about "Here Comes the Shock"* Why was I optimistic?5 points

I would say more, the iHeartRadio thing and post-BJ rehab, fucked up the Green Day carreer in the mainstream. After that, the band go to a low level in terms of promotion and popularity in comparison with 2004 - 2012. It seems that the level of investment in them as a band has diminished from all sides too, most notably from the record label.4 points
-
The trilogy was being well received, and I share the same opinion, iHeart fucked it all up. For Dookie, the thing that make it that big was Woodstock, before that the band was slowly growing, both on sales and public. After that, shit gone crazy4 points
-
It should be posted to all their socials and the official website will be updated and emails out to the subscribers4 points

Lmao literally nobody is contributing anything substantial to the topic. Out of 329 pages, there's probably less than 10 posts that have anything to do with the new album HCTS being removed seems odd. It's not really a significant song so I can't see it meaning anything.4 points
-
Cavallo produced the Trilogy too, and Iāve had a theory that the Trilogy wouldāve been much bigger without the iHeart incident and Billieās rehab.4 points
-
More importantly it was a really sad time. Billie Joe has suffered with anxiety issues all his life. As a fan it was a tad difficult to concentrate on the music, wondering if he'd be ok, and that there was still a future for the band. I just wanted to give him a big hug. Thankfully, he pulled through, and bounced back to write Rev Rad.3 points
-
Thankfully āHere comes the shockā has disappeared off Spotify for me too. Now I just need to erase the memory of the music video.3 points

Imho Haushinka is amazing song, can't understand why you think it's bad. Anyway, GD don't do bad songs they're always good, don't forget what Mike Dirnt said, quote. "Green Day is like sex, when it's good it's really good. And when it's bad, it's still pretty damn good." š3 points
-
I feel like this is a huge overreaction Because a non-album single that no one really likes or cares about or even really remembers all that much has been removed from spotify, probably just temporarily for copyright reasons, you think this is actually something that might happen to album tracks, or even entire albums?? FOAMF is their most recent album. Regardless of what fans, the label or the band think of it, it's going to stay on spotify. Warning is a beloved Green Day album among fans now, as are the Lookout records. These albums have solid millions of copies worldwide. They're not going to be taken off spotify and the trilogy is just too big and too recent of a project to be taken off and is still loved and listened to by a decent amount of people too2 points
-
I'm just basing off the stuff we've heard so far. A somber, nostalgic sounding song Accidentally leaked by Billie on Instagram. Someone commented on this YouTube video, "Now THAT'S Green Day!!" Produced by Rob Cavallo. And Billie comparing the song they're recording here to Letterbomb. A heavier nostalgic sounding song. And Mike whispering, "They have no idea!"2 points
-
What makes you think that? The band not saying anything recently about the album really isn't an indication of anything. I love your enthusiasm but I just don't want you to get your hopes up and then get disappointed when they release a 30 minute, 10 song "album" full of "let's party and celebrate rock and roll" songs.2 points
-
I honestly know nothing at the moment. The whole thing is seemingly pretty hush-hush right now.2 points

We missed you! Not a great deal going on but Billie was looking mighty fine when last spotted!2 points

Ooooooh my god, you guys! I feel like it's been like 30 years since I've been here! How is everyone?! I've missed you! What's happening in the Green Day world right now? Can someone give me a TL;DR of what's going on at GDC and with Green Day? I've only recently looked at a few pics from I think what was a recent show and boy howdy does Billie look fine with that fluffy, blond hair!2 points

And here's an article about the Italy show that was cancelled https://www.greendayauthority.com/news/3522/1 point

I think they're talking about the one of him in smiling in bed after the hospital stay in Italy, not after rehab.1 point

I thought Adrienne posted the first pic of him sitting on a settee with a phone and banana skin beside him. Do you have the one you mention?1 point

Also, sales where restricted with Lookout records from an indie label maybe? If I understand right, Kerplunk was the biggest selling record at that time for an indie label. A major label was the only option. Plus MTV plugging Dookie almost non stop.1 point

Yea, I'm with you on this one. 1972 was originally movie project, so not related to album. Many bands start out with self-titled album. GD always had title on their albums. Maybe just 'Green Day' as title of new album would be cool. And with cover having photo of band playing live would be special.1 point
-
Um I think you mean the title for worst song goes to The Forgotten.1 point
-
Across all social media of the band, followed by coverage from other online articles. Not sure where the very first announcement will be, because once it's out, it's all over the place. #not1972 Could be called anything! I think it will be self titled, which kind of ties into "1972", which references the band.1 point
-
Can I ask what is the most likely way the album's release will be announced? I'm trying to remember what happened with previous releases. Will it be officially through GD website, or does it vary? Thanks.1 point

Could it be a copyright issue? I've seen similiar situations were songs get removed from big plattforms because of copyright claims from other artist. If that's the case, they can have it. We don't want it anyway š¤·āāļø1 point

Must be an international licensing thing. Because we still have it here in the US1 point

I know HCTS is an unpopular and forgetable song, however I don't get the point to erase a song from digital platforms. We are not in the 90s, when PHYSICAL CD Singles were limited to get/buy...1 point
-
Well, in Deezer HCTS is not available in my country (Chile). Fortunately, I "backed up" the song. Also, in this platform "21 Guns Live EP" is not available.1 point

Just got off the phone with Billie. He said that Tre wanted heavier drum fills and that's why they are re-recording the song.1 point

As I said before and Iām sorry to say it that clear: you unfortunately contribute nothing substantial to this topic and you only spread non-sense. Could you please cut back a bit? Or share it in another thread but this one? Thanks1 point

This practice is more common than you think. For instance: * Keep Fishin' by Weezer (The mix from the videoclip is the Radio Version. It's available on Keep Fishin' Single) * I wanna be sedated by The Ramones (This is from a Ramones Promo of the song) * My inmortal by Evasnescence (The video has the band version of the song which I think it was a bonus track of Fallen album) * Long time gone by Chris Cornell (This one is available on Chris Cornell's Compilatory released couple of years ago and also in a CD single of the song) * Dammit by Blink 182 (The Drums starts a little bit before in the videoclip version and it's censored. The videoclip version is available and not censored in their Greatest Hits record) * Fell on Black Days by Soundgarden (Videoclip version is different than the Superunknown album.) That's all I can remember for now, but I think you get the idea š1 point

The new album will be digital-only; it will be distributed exclusively to GDC members via link to Crush's proprietary cloud storage service, called (HELLA)MEGA. The files will be protected by password, and they'll attempt to lead us on an AFI-style scavenger hunt to gather clues, eventually revealing the credentials. But, because Crush is really bad at this stuff, we already know the password is 1-9-7-2. Username bratwurst.1 point

Saw this cool old Lookout poster on Facebook https://m.facebook.com/groups/642148675925832/permalink/2446772978796717/?sfnsn=scwspmo&ref=share1 point

Radio Version #2 is easily identifiable because it has a TON of added crash cymbal hits starting around 1:58 and then from 2:04 to the end. They're all in the right speaker and would require 3 arms to play . Once you notice it you can't unhear it.1 point
-
I would say the Australian Waiting CD Single which has the Original Version of Maria. Also, the Green and Orange Promos for Walking Contradiction (Especially the Orange One), both have exclusive mixes, but I've never heard the orange CD one. WC Orange Promo And this is the mix for the Green promo.1 point

The Dookie Converse are definitely rare in my size I have the Uno and Dos ones though so I'm happy. They'd be my must-haves if I didn't have them! There was merch for sale at the Costa Rica show in 2010 that I never saw anywhere else and haven't seen since. I'd love an official shirt from that leg of the tour. Also, this shirt that was for sale on the 99 Revolutions Tour:1 point

Sounds to me like a late summer/early fall album release and a tour that starts in the fall and goes through next year. Just a guess, but it sounds like the tour will straddle two years1 point

Hereās some food for your bowls. Guitar tech Hans posted a photo of the bandās rig and tagged it #greenday2023 and #greenday2024 https://www.instagram.com/p/CpTWqE0P34r/?igshid=MjkzY2Y1YTY=1 point
