I'm just glad it seems like what we've gotten so far has just been the band teasing a record they're excited about - it's not forced promotion from some record label/management company etc., just the band being themselves. Which may end in a lot of mystery but at least we haven't been told there won't be any trap beats (yet).7 points

Anyone who was around for the wait between Warning and American Idiot remembers how grueling it was. We didn’t even know if Green Day was still a band at certain points, it wasn’t until The Network that things got interesting.7 points

Back on Jan 10, @pacejunkie punk posted an update from greenday.fm. Quote "New info from a close band source: despite the 1972 name teases, album 14 does not have a title yet and they are still “in the middle” of working on the new record." This is a positive step I think, as the last main tease was Aug 16. I appreciate the wait is frustrating a real drag. I've had this eleven times since Kerplunk. It's always been worth the wait, and I've never been disappointed. The next one is gonna be a cracker. Hang in there and stay positive. Get ready coz in a while just imagine, this topic will be in meltdown. The album release will be announced, its title, number of tracks, the first single release. Then news of tour dates and venues. When will tickets be available. Holy shit, have a got any money. Where can I rob, sorry, cadge some dosh. I think it's time to get excited. 😜6 points

Would be a pretty cool idea! I would only see something like that happening for a smaller scale album though... kind of like how they were debuting a lot of Trilogy stuff live (although that might have had more to do with the fact that there was just so much of it).4 points

After the Innings Festival, I feel like they have to announce something soon, because as of now, their next show is the Harley Davidson Festival in July, 5 months away!!! That’s a pretty big gap!!!3 points

Oh don’t start 😂 pretty sure we had this convo last year but there is little point messaging someone when you know they won’t see it, am sure it was all done it privately.3 points

Unfortunately, I hadn't discovered Green Day until my early teens when American Idiot came out, but it was during that discovery period (with the help of international superhits) that I discovered I actually knew quite a few of their older songs too, I just didn't know who they were by until then. Back to what you were saying though, the wait for me between AI and 21CB felt fucking huge. It wasn't really helping that it felt like pretty much every single day I was on the internet speculating and looking for info on the next record, as I was for many other things I was interested in too. These days, 4 and a half years feels like a couple of weeks to me since I'm pretty good at keeping myself distracted with other things... but the downside to that is life seems to be flying by faster and faster every day. Looking back and reflecting on that time period now, I really wish I just spent more time living in the moment than being too excited for things that hadn't happened yet. Okay rant time! Can you believe I just fucking turned 32? How depressing is that? I don't really look it (according to most people that guess I am in my early 20s) or feel it (except now that I think of it, my back is kind of fucked). But damn, Billie Joe was 32 when American Idiot came out. Still can't believe he's already in his 50s. Next thing I know, I'm gonna be in my 50s and he's going to be in his 70s. What the hell? Yes! 101 fucking percent! I imagine part of the record label re-sign process probably had quite a few requests that the band members had, less strict deadlines likely being one of them. The impatient see this as a negative, but to me I see it as a huge positive. Again, I'd rather wait for the boys to announce and release something that they really care about than something they were forced to finish in a strict deadline so the record label could do their thing. If that happened to me, I wouldn't be able to cope and the material would ultimately suffer for it. Screw that.2 points

She made some comment in her stories about her views have caused riffs with family and friends. I don't remember her exact words but it was along those lines.2 points

I hope something happens soon. Something real. 313 pages of speculation with basically no real news or social media posts or teases in ages is frustrating. I keep checking this page with high hopes for intelligent insight, a new tease or news of posts from the band. Maybe I missed something in between all the pages of joke posts but I don’t think so. Green Day fans will talk about garbage for 2 years and 313 pages of nothing. I feel like the band stopped caring about their loyal fans but who knows what’s really happening behind the scenes.2 points

I still believe in the theory that they will play the Hella Mega setlist and then just before Good Riddance they play the first single of the new album as a surprise.2 points

Will anyone bet that the word "that" WON'T be on the album? I think this is our first non-speculative post. Maybe.2 points

Just like Green Day to wake us all up with a new side project in The Network. Money Money 2020 is amazing. Still, we had a few titbits to keep us going. The 'Tune In Tokyo' live ep was awesome for me being so into GD live. There was of course, International Superhits CD/DVD with two new songs - Poprocks & Coke and Maria, and Shenanigans. And Crickets cover 'I Fought The Law.1 point

I think I would rather nothing than the “teases” we got. Super frustrating! Green Day fans have been spoiled and I feel like I want to have a tantrum over the way this new album and the promo has been rolled out. Or maybe not care at all. I guess I don’t care. The band doesn’t care. Fans shouldn’t care. But then what’s the point? I want new music. But not Here Comes the Shock or Pollyanna. I thought those songs were not Green Day level good. They can go the way of FOAM and never be on a setlist. I hope the new album goes in the direction of Holy Toledo if any of those songs are any indication of new Green Day.1 point

I don't get it. What's the punchline? Is it a natural disaster sung by the unemployed? We should probably fight fire with a riot. The class war is hanging on a wire. Because the martyr is a compulsive liar when he said....I forget what he said, but it sucked. I think Green Day care, but it's just unclear what they are doing and it's frustrating. Would complete silence be better than the teases? Probably. I'd prefer the band talking about the album and telling us about it rather than these snippets. It still hasn't been a long wait between albums just yet.1 point

Fingers crossed "that dude" is in the lyrics. Even if he only says "that" in a song, I will know in my heart that it's for me. "That" will be enough.1 point

If Billie wears his 1972 vest at the Innings Festival, we’ll know the title is still in play in some form. If not the album title, maybe at least a song, or a documentary of the making of the album.1 point

Hmmm, if I were to guess I'd probably say sometime after it's actually announced. Let's be patient and take things one step at a time. They've probably got at least 3 or 4 albums worth of material in their vault that most of us haven't even heard yet and we may not even hear them for a long time if we even ever hear them at all. Some of these older vault songs may even get scrapped and dissected to make new songs, like how Black Eyeliner (presumably) eventually became Church on Sunday, or how Cigarettes and Valentines (if it was even an actual old pre-AI song) shared similar lyrical content to American Eulogy. Maybe 1972 only consists of fresh, newly written material which could contribute to the long wait? Maybe the project started out as something small and changed direction to be a bit more ambitious the longer the band worked on the album? Maybe it's just a smaller project and the boys just want to feel right about when to announce it? Maybe the band decided to recently scrap everything and start from scratch? Or maybe it was always meant to be something a bit bigger than another small project and was always meant to take a long time and the teasers were dropped simply to let fans know that something is being worked on without making any official announcements. The reality is only they know, and they'll likely do whatever they feel like doing in regards to 1972 and material that follows. We can probably expect an announcement sometime this year, maybe even a release if it still sticks to it's apparent planned 2023 release, but I wouldn't even start thinking about what comes after until at least a year or two after 1972 actually drops and we know exactly where the band is at.1 point
