  1. I guess after you Kill Your Friends you have to go to Church On Sunday šŸ˜‚ There have to be so many proto-songs in the vault like this that were deconstructed and rebuilt into new songs. Itā€™s my theory itā€™s why heā€™s reluctant to release too many old demos (he still might use them for parts) and hereā€™s an example of one he was clearly done with so was okay to put out now.

  4. Freedom of speech is not freedom from social consequences for that speech. Nobody is calling for the arrest of bill maher. Nobody wants to send him to the gulags. People want him to change his views and be a better person. Short of that, people can and will criticize his fre speech with their free speech. The government can't censor someone for their religious beliefs, they can't stop the press from criticizing them, they cannot arrest you for speaking out. Society, however, can and should criticize those that cause harm to others. Harmful beliefs won't get you arrested, they will get you criticized. It's not cancel culture, this is how a society works. I would just like it for people to understand that nobody here appears to want to throw bill maher in a cell to rot. Using your freedom of speech to spread misinformation is an action worthy of criticism. This is my belief and I will use my freedom of speech to say as much.

  7. It really is disgusting, he's a horrible person and this is the last thing trans people need right now. Constant lies and attacks from conservatives really do put trans people in danger. Obviously Green Day does not align with his views on the subject, but I wish they would make that explicitly clear after working with him for this project

  10. In case anyone had doubts about Bill Maher being a piece of shit regarding trans people, I just saw a clip filled with lies about trans/gender stuff being talked about to young children in schools. Lies like how instead of teaching kids about colours, they talk about pronouns and queer stuff, and that they're telling them they can identify as a tree. Schools aren't these far left institutions that these people are making them out to be. Kids are not being told "boys can menstruate" and "girls have penises". This misinformation is everywhere, there are even lies about schools putting litterboxes in bathrooms for people who identify as catgender. Like it's insane how many people just hear this stuff and believe it without even thinking about it

  12. I never said he doesn't have the right to say it, but when it comes to free speech a lot of people seem to forget that words have consequences, and Maher is using his words to weaponize hatred towards transgender people in a world where we're (yes, I am trans) already struggling to survive. I'm just saying I'd expect more from Green Day, they're the band who will go on stage and chant "no trump, no kkk, no fascist USA", yet here they are working with someone who has similar views on trans people as these fascist conservatives. And I'm not using the word fascist lightly here, Billie will talk shit about Ted Cruz, whose state is trying to criminalize parents who let their children transition, even if it's just a social transition with nothing medical going on, Texas wants to take that child away from their parents. Texas also wants to make a list of all trans people in the state, that is some straight up Nazi shit right there. States all over the US are attempting to strip trans people of their rights, and honestly it makes me scared to travel, and I'm always hesitant to use a public restroom because conservatives are trying to convince women that trans people are only in those bathrooms to rape them. I'm just sick of all this shit and Maher is just adding fuel to the fire. How would you feel if Green Day contributed music to a show where the host has racist, homophobic, or sexist views? This shit is fucking absurd.

  14. petermont: Great to run into this cat on Wednesday. We caught up on some mutual friends and some old times. He was very chill and nice and open to just talking, including about visual art. I don't know if this is always the case, yet for me Billie Joe has always been humorous and a gentleman. Really fun conversation that matched the mood as the sun has come out in Oakland after weeks of rain. https://www.instagram.com/p/Cn4g8dKLjSW/

  15. Black Eyeliner is officially an early version of Church on Sunday, with the pre chorus being the exact same. The verse's melody also sounds identical to Kill Your Friends by The Longshot.

  27. Total character assassination in a video that's supposed to be all about 1972, YES! Why? Because there's no one over there to get me back on topic, haha. You, @GDFan2019, @pacejunkie punk and maybe even @Hermione are getting positive shout outs, to be sure.

  31. There is absolutely no way that a band, or even an individual, could function to do anything if they refused to work with anyone who had ever said or done something they disagreed work. You may find his views his repellent but thatā€™s free speech. Heā€™s free to say it, you are free to say you think heā€™s wrong.

If you can't reply Can I apply your black eyeliner one more time To make tour eyes look just like mine Bloodshot deadbeat, lack of sleep Making your mascara bleed Slip down your face Leaving traces of mistakes

  41. Iā€™m not saying they do or should agree with him, I certainly donā€™t agree with what you cite above, all Iā€™m saying is that for better or worse, free speech works both ways. I believe part of the problem can be laid at the feet of the press and their hysterical reporting of these issues rather than calm and rational debate. We had a situation in Scottish education a number of years ago where sex educators in schools HAD to answer any child who asked that no, there was no such thing as gay sex because those were the rules for them at the time. When there was a move to modernise this clearly archaic regulation so that teachers could actually be helpful and inform, one side of the argument portrayed the change as virtually trying to convert children towards homosexuality which was clearly bonkers.

  45. When Billie said the album was probably coming in 2023 I took that as him saying ā€œI know a lot of people expect this to come out before the end of 2022 but to be honest thatā€™s not happeningā€

  48. 1972 is going to exclusively theme songs from that year's tv shows. I'm particularly excited about their take on All In the Family and Sanford and Son. Haha.
