Leave it to people here to take something new that is fun and innocent and “cancel” it because of who it is for. Good god, lighten the f*** up.7 points

As I remember, it was just the lyrics to the song with illustrations along with it. That's it. The issue was whoever did publicity on the book worded it poorly, saying it was a guide to being a girl rebel (paraphrasing there). The band just got criticized, rather than the publicist.5 points

It sounds fine, but Bill Maher fuckin' sucks.5 points

What if Album 14 opens with the line "FORGETTING YOU BUT NOT THE TIME" And then Billie screams like in Letterbomb as the gnarliest punk rock Green Day has ever created explodes from the speakers? Smashing instruments like from Shenanigans. They destroy all their instruments while recording every song.5 points

Wow! It looks like they finally released A Song for An Asshole!5 points

It looks like you're the first one in the thread to mention cancelling. Which I hardly think a bit of grousing on a niche fan forum qualifies as. Or are we not allowed to dislike things anymore?4 points

I don't understand why men can't write a pro-woman book. If men can't write about women, about 99.999999999999999999 of all culture would cease to exist. Who exactly was offended?4 points

Ngl I think that's sort of an odd response to ppl going "I don't like Bill Maher". I don't think anyone really cares either way, certainly not enough to "cancel" the band over it. In fact I don't think I've even seen any criticism of the band here3 points

I don't actually remember exactly what the issue was with the book but at the time I remember thinking it was pretty weird and cringe. So someone can correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure the book was sort of talking how to be this cool anti-establishment rebel girl but the fact that it's men telling women how to be is pretty cringe. Like I don't have a problem with the song because Billie isn't really trying to project some standard onto women in that song, he's just talking about the character of Gloria in the song which is inspired by himself and/or people he knows i.e. Adrienne. Even if the song was some sort of "guide for women", releasing it in 2009 is a lot less cringe than in 2019 (which is when the book was announced before being scrapped) The cover of the book is pretty weird too. It's just some blonde white girl in this blue dress with stars on it. Honestly doesn't exactly seem like the type of girl that the band generally appeals to or that the song seems to talk about. But really, it's not a big deal. We don't really even know the content within the book since it was never actually released so for all we know, it's some masterpiece of literature (it's not tho lol). And for me, the main thing that puzzles me is why that song? Like I'll say again that I like the song but it seems like such a strange choice to base your book on3 points

I know Green Day didn't write it, but I personally don't see anything wrong with a book written by men honoring women. Especially from a band known for how respectfully they write songs about the women in their lives.3 points

You are 100% correct. It is a song that one would have wished was no longer as relevant as it is today. A sad reality of the world that so little is being done to truly address this issue in any meaningful capacity. It is tragic that the song holds up as much as it does in terms of cultural relevance.3 points

Yeah, I guess I worded it a bit wrong. It's aged well but in an incredibly unfortunate way. I guess since I work in the school system now I'm a bit sensitive to it, since (and I know this is veering into too personal) now that's one of major fears now.3 points

This is kind of cool actually. I just wish it were a new song and not a jingle3 points

Let’s pray for this production sound for the new record. Crunchy and vibrant.3 points

So I see that a people are saying their orders might be delayed... I ordered the silver vinyl set from 1234 go records and I just saw in their newsletter that the records are on their way to them right now and should start shipping next week. I'm glad I went through them, they have free shipping and I really like their label3 points

I can see there are times when it’s a little too close to home but it’s a massively relevant song with all the shootings in the US. Painful but as @FOAMfinger says, totally on point.2 points

A book based on "Ashley" would be in hilariously bad taste. They should do that one INSTEAD of Last of The American Girls. 😄 Or a children's book based on Platypus.1 point

I totally agree, but IMO, it just feels good to finally hear some new Green Day1 point

On AmazonPrime Freevee theres another 90s Show called "High School" about the Canadian twin sister pop duo Tegan and Sara. On the 3rd Episode an Insomniac Era Green Day Concert is the Main Theme. Also right at the beginning of that Episode "Geek Stink Breath" is playing on a Car radio. https://www.rogerebert.com/streaming/high-school-freevee-review-20221 point

I read that description was like "OH YEAH. I WISH EVERY GREEN DAY ALBUM WAS LIKE THIS."1 point

We've basically got a whole record at this point. Slap in the teasers as instrumental interludes, slow a few of 'em down and it's long enough to be an album. bing bang boom, done: I Get Around Dreaming Here Comes The Shock Holy Toledo Rock N Roll All Nite Real Time. Pollyanna1 point

1972 is going to exclusively theme songs from that year's tv shows. I'm particularly excited about their take on All In the Family and Sanford and Son. Haha.1 point

I think they're probably just gonna be busy throughout 2023, regardless of whether the album comes out this year or early 2024. With Nimrod Anniversary edition, festivals, finishing off the album, pre-album promotion etc. I doubt this short audio clip has anything to do with the album or the announcement1 point

The song has actually aged incredibly well, the lyrics and messaging are on point.1 point

Did anyone else have a big “Ruh Roh” moment when they read the description of FOAM? I think I still have PTSD from “the NEW!”1 point

So I watched That 90s Show on Netflix yesterday and one of the girls is wearing a Green Day shirt in one episode, I was really hoping for something GD related to be in that show!1 point

I stumbled upon this by accident. Seems like Krist Novoselic wrote an article on 21CB when it came out. Pretty cool https://www.seattleweekly.com/news/krist-novoselics-column-runs-every-tuesday-on-the-daily-weekly-coming-off-their/1 point

I mean I don't think the band really had anything to do with that book. Like it was named after one of their songs, that's about it, right? I like LOTAG but it does seem an odd choice to base a book off of1 point

Totally forgot about this. Remember the minor controversy it stirred up? Something along the lines of green day can't speak for women or something?1 point
