  1. Considering Bill Schneider is on vacation (per his Instagram), they're likely not recording at the moment. Not that he has to be there for recording, but from the all stuff we've seen so far, he has been.

  2. Could be that they added another song or two, those have been mixed and now the whole album is in mastering; meanwhile they're deciding on a name, album covers promotional material etc. There's a lot more that goes into releasing an album on a scale like this so I think it's still reasonable to believe the album itself is for the most part complete and they're still 'in the middle of working on it'. Music videos too!

  3. I thought we recently heard some inside information that concert venues were being booked for this year. I can't see them going on a summer tour without an album. I really think this will be a tour that actually supports the album, I don't think we'll get a Hella Mega 2.

  5. That black/grey was Billie's hairstyle in October/November I think. He already lost weight at that time. So maybe they recorded some additional things. But nevertheless, the search for an album title and the promotion/marketing doesn't say anything about the progress of the music itself. So a release in spring 2023 could still be possible.

  6. I still think the album is coming 2023. C'mon guys they've been working on this for months now and it just turned 2023, it won't take THAT much longer now that hella mega is over

  7. His version with Costello is a million times better. Boring release.

  8. 2024 seems to far i still believe in a release this year, more like 2nd half of the year

  9. It's the acoustic one, but the audio quality is definitely much better than the one posted on YouTube recently

  10. So got bought a gift box of Oakland Coffee as part of my Christmas present. It was wildly expensive as postage was almost as much again but omg it’s so good. It’s Father of all dark roast which worried me as I can find American coffee undrinkable but this so good, it’s so smooth it’s just amazing. Could be a very bad habit I just picked up!

  11. We thought the ‘probably’ meant as opposed to 2022. Don’t forget they started it in 2021. No one was thinking he meant it could be 2024. I mean they’re not shooting a Marvel movie

  12. I just hope that after all of this delay we get an album longer then 10 songs

  13. Here’s a tiny update for y’all from Jason at reddit/greenday.fm: “So I asked about the 1972 title after the #not1972hashtag thing from the fan who met Rob Cavallo. I can confirm there is no official title for the record yet and they are still “in the middle of working on it”. Pretty surprised to hear they are still working on it after this long - we are well over a year now since they first hit the studio in London. I think a lot of us presumed it was basically in the bag at this point but looks like they’re still going - epic record incoming? I think so.”

  14. I was thinking that too. Maybe not a year in advance like Hella Mega tickets but surely if they’re touring this summer they have to announce ticket sales by March?
    2 points
  15. Well, if there are really bookings for a tour next summer, they should start promoting in the next weeks at least an announcement for the upcoming tour.
    2 points
  16. Yes, and the gap between the single and album was 5 months. If the gap between album recording and album release is the same as FOAM, we shouldn't be expecting the album until June at the earliest. Again, I'm not expecting a 2024 release but if you're saying we should be getting the album within the first half of the year, that's probably not likely

  17. Thanks for that, you're a star. It's such a beautiful Costello song, and yes that live version with Elvis C is amazing. As this demo quality is much better than the current one on You Tube, having listened to it a few times, thanks to @GreenDayItaly, I like it, it's cool. Sorry you think it's boring.

  19. I don’t really feel like it’s appropriate to argue against this... That said, I choose to cut him some slack. He’s been through a lot and as a fan, I don’t want to engage with stuff he does by pointing out its weaknesses even though I am very well aware of them.

  20. It took Axl Rose 11 years to finish Chinese Democracy I'm not saying 1972 will take 11 years... ...maybe 9?
    2 points
  21. And damn good ones but probably left them off because either they didn't fit the 'let's all party we're gonna die' theme or they knew they'd rather use them for a side project no one will hear. Like I said, frustrating. I think they jumped the gun and really thought they were gonna drop something right away. That 1972 RAK Studios London video was just too deliberate and produced. Then they changed their minds because they thought they were on to something bigger. I still think the release will be this year though, because we know they are scheduling tour dates. Are they going to do another greatest hits tour?
    2 points
  22. In the middle of working on it could mean many things I guess, but based on this I guess at best a single in spring and the record in summer. Maybe they took a break from everything since the end of the tour and just have to finalize tracklist and other things not related to recording. Regardless, seems clear to me they are taking their time and not rushing anything, which is definitely a good thing.

  23. Announcement on Billie’s birthday in February? As I said, I think we recently got some kind of inside information that they were in the process of booking venues. And remember what Billie said at the end of the Asbury Park, NJ show, “It’s going to be a long time until next summer!”

  24. Okay so March would make sense for a summer tour

  25. They were probably pressured to release the single early to promote the Hella Mega Tour. Weezer and Fall Out Boy too!!! Then Weezer’s album ended up getting delayed due to the pandemic

  26. Lots of bands release a single before they're even finished recording the album, so we really can't connect timelines like that.

  31. Hopefully, his statement on the subject means he has been able to recover. “I was on drugs when I wrote some of my songs. It was a rough time for me, but I’m lucky enough to be one of the people who learned from that experience and moved on, where other people just got addicted and more addicted and more addicted until it killed them.” (Billie Joe)

  32. The song, Pollyanna's title reminded me of a movie that has a fictional character who used to be one of my role models. I really should watch the entire movie again but may end up crying at the end of it like I did years ago. I really enjoyed the prism scene and the glad game. I did not understand the importance of the glad game but it's all about perception changing, just as Green Day's song is about perception changing. When Holy Toledo came out I was appalled at first but then I noticed something... perhaps they aren't wanting to get into trouble but wanting to sing about the problem so that others can see where the trouble starts so that they can avoid repeating it. I should really go back through the lyrics and think about them differently. Macy's Day Parade however seems to be an I'm sick of waiting on you therefore I'm going to lose patience and break up with you song.... which proves that they don't love the subject of the song... because.... well... Love is patient. A person who really loves themself ... well it can be argued they'd be more patient than breaking their engagement with themself... yet at the same time I see why they did it... they wouldn't want to be a Narcissist. As to Billie being a perfectionist... he will not ever be truly happy as long as he seeks perfection over love... so I hope he isn't doing that. Love in an art form does not judge the art but accepts the art and the raw emotion for which it stands. Perhaps a theme isn't what is needed for 1972 yet the title of it already indicates a themed album, but then.... perhaps the theme is being written out of something other than writer's block.

  33. So this is not a fake leak attempt or anything like that. I just started to play around with OpenAI and in about 15 minutes I got this. Since it is a fun (and scary) activity that maybe others want to try, and I don’t want to overflow the speculation thread with this, I thought a separate thread could be a good idea. If not shut it down. For this I used chat.OpenAI.com. Everything has been generated by the AI (except the cover art for which I used another AI tool), using multiple prompts. 1972: Reckoning Through Time Out February 19 2023. Tracklist: 1. 34. I find it unlikely that they will be performing at When We Were Young Festival in October with all those bands without a new album in their bag. So I think the album will come out until October (probably September) but who knows...

  41. Or like FOAM. Damn that album is so frustrating. It’s not the style so much but the half assed nature of it. If they had only gone all in with fully complete songs and more tracks. It’s one underwritten track after another than I only start enjoying it by side two then it’s over.

  42. I’d rather have to wait until it’s done rather than the project being pushed out the door half baked like the trilogy. So good news I guess?

  43. Very. But he cautions that it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re still in the middle of recording, it just means still in the process so maybe they added a song and went back to the studio, are still working on a title, art concept, a tracklist, etc. So just that it’s still being worked on to some extent.
